Marcelline E. Hall Fanning
Marcelline E. Hall Fanning, 89, of 40 Poplar Lane, Saranac Lake, N.Y. died peacefully at home on January 18, 2009 under the care of her loving daughters and following a long illness.

She was born on June 14, 1919 in Middlebury, Vermont the daughter of Phillip J. and Della M. (Gates) Willette.

Mrs. Fanning moved to Saranac Lake with her parents as a young girl. Except for a few years living in New Jersey and Connecticut she had been a resident of Saranac Lake for most of her life where she had worked for J.J Newberry Co. as a Supervisor and Paul Smith’s Electric Co. and subsequently Niagara Mohawk Power Co. as a district clerk until she retired in 1981. She raised her four children with loving care. During her retirement years she spent many happy and productive hours building (with the help of her loving family members) her new home, planning and tending her garden and quilting beautiful quilts for all her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children Marcelline E. Hall Lizewskie, widow of Henry Lizewskie of Queensbury, N.Y., Kathleen D. Talbot, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., John R. Fanning and his wife Harue June of Orange Park, F.L. and Eileen N. Fanning and her husband Milo “Sonny” Moody of Watertown, N.Y., five grandchildren Mark Lizewskie and his wife Lois of Zion Grove, P.A., Peter Lizewskie and his wife Deborah of Tacoma, W.A.; Eric A. Talbot of Saranac Lake, N.Y., Heidi A. Miner and husband Steven of West Henrietta, N.Y. ; and Emily Fanning of Jacksonville, F.L., five great grandchildren Anders Lizewskie of Tacoma, W.A.; Christopher and Matthew Talbot of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and Nicholas and Caroline Miner of West Henrietta, N.Y.. She is also survived by one sister Antoinette Willett and one brother Gabriel Willette of Saranac Lake.

Mrs. Fanning was predeceased by her parents, five brothers, Lawrence, Paul, Arthur, Raymond, and Victor and 3 sisters, Katherine Scoursi, Lillian Premo and Hilda Thompson and one granddaughter Sue Marceline Fanning.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Interment will be in the spring at the convenience of the family. Friends wishing to remember Mrs. Fanning may make memorial contributions to the High Peaks Hospice, whose wonderful and compassionate staff assisted with her care.

Richard Wallace
Richard Wallace, 58, of Piercefield, died unexpectedly, Friday January 23, 2009 in an automobile accident on the Tupper-Saranac Highway. Born on August, 3, 1950 in Queens, NY. He was the son of Leonard and Margaret (Bogert) Wallace. Richard was raised in NYC and relocated to Piercefield in 1985. For six years, he served with the New York National Guard. He was employed as a Safety Officer at Sunmount DDSO until retiring in 2002. Richard was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 640, a member of the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad and the Piercefield Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid gun collector and fishermen. Richard is survived by one brother Leonard Wallace of Tupper Lake and a niece Lynette Smith of Long Island. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, January 28th from 2- 4 and 7 -9 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home in Tupper Lake. Burial will be in Gale cemetery in May. Betty J. Ketcham
Betty J. Ketcham, 76, of Long Lake and most recently Greenville,  South Carolina, died Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Rolling Green Village Health Care Facility in Greenville. Born on April 3, 1932 in Stanley, NY, she was the daughter of James and Helen (Pulver) Hutchinson. On November 26, 1949 she married Vance (Sam) Ketcham. They moved to Long Lake in 1963. Mrs. Ketcham was employed at the Grand Union in Long Lake until its closure in 1977. She went on to work for Key Bank until retiring in 1994. Mrs. Ketcham was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was the church organist for the Calvary United Methodist Church in Long Lake. She is survived by two daughters, Cherie O’Hara and her husband Jim of Homosassa, Florida, Kim Brown and her husband Reggie of Mauldin, SC., two sons, Steve of Romulus, NY, Randy and his wife Lea of Tupper Lake, three grandchildren, Matt, Melissa and Keith Burnett, one brother Harold (Sonny) Hutchinson and his wife Rosa of Stanley, one sister Arlene Andersen and her husband Dave of Burlington, Wa, and nephews and nieces. She was pre-deceased by her husband Vance in in 1998. There will be no calling hours, a funeral service will be held on Friday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Methodist Church in Long Lake. Louise M. Bellaire
Louise M. Bellaire of Saranac Lake, NY died peacefully at home on January 13th. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 28, 1913, and was the daughter of William and Fanny (Brown) Merkel.

Mrs. Bellaire graduated from Duke University and went to work for Scudder, Stevens and Clark, a New York investment firm. She relocated to Portland, Oregon to assist her parents during their last years and to work for the leadership of Equitable Savings and Loan. She then moved to Saranac Lake where she had been resident since 1951. Mrs. Bellaire was active in many community and civic activities. She was one of the first employees of the newly founded North Country Community College and served as assistant to the president for many years. She also served on the school and hospital boards, and was active in the consolidation efforts that eventually joined the General Hospital of Saranac Lake and Lake Placid Memorial Hospital to form the Adirondack Medical Center. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church from the time of her arrival in the North Country and was on the St. Luke’s Vestry. Mrs. Bellaire’s volunteer activities were many and she continued them well into her 80’s. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Saranac Lake Day Care Center, the Adirondack Free Library, Adirondack Medical Center, the Budget Box, and the American Field Service student exchange program

She is survived by one son David Bellaire and his wife Karen of Atlanta, GA, one daughter Jean Kivlen and her husband Patrick of Onchiota, NY, and five grandchildren (Michael, Evan and Benjamin Kivlen, and Laura and Christopher Bellaire). She was preceded in death by Dr. Richard Bellaire, and her siblings, Jean Deghuee of Foxfire, NC and George Merkel of La Jolla, CA.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Luke’s The Beloved Physician Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake. Reverend Frederick Dennis will officiate. A reception will immediately follow the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Louise Bellaire may make memorial contributions either to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church or to the Adirondack Medical Center in care of the funeral home.

William Arron Patraw
William Arron Patraw, age 85, of 647 County Route 18, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, New York.

Born in St. Regis Falls, New York on July 18, 1923, he was the son of Wendall and Harriet (Peck) Patraw.

William had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1967 coming from St. Regis Falls, He was self-employed as a mechanic most of his life and also worked at the NYS DEC State garage in Lake Clear for 10 years from which he retired. He was a devoted and loving father and will be missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his companion for the last 27 years Irene Bryant of Saranac Lake, seven children Larry Patraw and his wife Bonnie of Alexandria Bay, NY, Bonnie Garceau and her husband Gregory of Malone, NY, Gary Patraw and his wife Sharron of New Jersey, Connie Dashno and her husband Terry of Dickenson Center, Donna Suscie and her finance Bruce Ploof of Dickenson Center, Terry Patraw, and his wife Mary Anne of Boise, Idaho, Penny Derkevics, and her husband Peter of Sound Beach Long Island, 18 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, He is also survived by two brothers Eugene Patraw and his wife Barbara of Potsdam, Roy Patraw and his wife Elaine of Norfolk, three sisters Eloise Sanford of Tupper Lake, Edna Price of Florida and Helen Palmer of Potsdam and four stepchildren Pat Blanchard of Lake Clear, Hazel DeBoise of North Carolina and Kenneth McGravey of Saranac Lake and Ray Boila.

He was predeceased by one daughter Karen Patraw in 1980 and one son Randy Patraw at birth. He was also predeceased by his second wife Gertrude McGarvey and one stepson Steven McGarvey

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Saturday January 17, 2009 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Memorial services will immediate follow at 4:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Duckett officiating

Virginia Cayen
Virginia Cayen, age 84, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid where she had been a resident since December 2, 2008.

Born in Potsdam, New York on May 21, 1924, she was the daughter of Edward and Helen (Clukey) Gonyeau. She married Edward Cayen on June 21, 1941 in Potsdam, New York. He predeceased her in 1974.

Mrs. Cayen had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1999 coming from Potsdam, New York. She had been employed by the New York Telephone Company from 1960 to 1979. She later owned and operated Jean’s Dress Shop in Potsdam, New York for 19 1/2 years. After moving to Saranac Lake she had worked for St. Bernard's Church Rectory as the cook for 8 years until her retirement. Mrs. Cayen was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard. She had also volunteered at the Adirondack Medical Center for five years and the Saranac Lake Adult Center for a couple of years.

She is survived by one daughter Sandra Walker and her husband Arthur of Saranac Lake, NY, one brother Vernon Gonyeau of Govenuer, NY, two grandchildren Jason Walker of Old Bridge, NJ and Rachel Walker of Saranac Lake, NY. She was preceded in death by her father, mother one brother Edward Gonyeau and one sister Betty Hatch.

Memorial calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 P.M. at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer and Rev. Timothy Soucy officiating. Burial will take place in Colton, NY in the spring.

Clara Kilner
Clara Kilner, age 92, of 7 Keene Street, Saranac Lake, New York died Friday, January 09, 2009 at AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid where she had been a resident since May.

Born in Lake Placid, New York on April 16, 1916, she was the daughter of Edwin and Sarah (Lancto) Smith. She married Herbert Kilner in Saranac Lake in 1934. He predeceased her in 1966.

Mrs. Kilner had been employed at the Saranac Lake High School in the late 1950's as a cook in the cafeteria. She was later employed as a cook at a Sears Restaurant in Buffalo, New York for many years until her retirement. Mrs. Kilner was an avid bingo and pinochle player. She enjoyed sewing and had also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years.

She is survived by one son Robert Kilner of Saranac Lake, NY, five grandchildren Linda Branch and her husband Larry of Saranac Lake, NY, Terri Kilner and her husband Alain Dumais of Saranac Lake, NY, Chris Kilner and his wife Joanne of Saranac Lake, NY, Gary Kilner of Saranac Lake, NY, and Lori Kilner-Khouri and her husband Stephen of Charleston, SC, seven great grandchildren Lacey Branch and Lance Branch, Cayla, Shannon, Dylan and Dakota Kilner, and Easton Khouri and 2great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, three Sisters and one brother.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Monday, January 12, 2009 from 2PM -4PM and 6PM - 8PM. A funeral service will immediately follow calling hours at 8:00 PM on Monday evening at the funeral home with Rev. Patrick O'Reilly officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.

George B. Button
Word has been received of the death of George B. Button, age 64, of 14 Kiwassa Road, Saranac Lake, NY who died Thursday, January 08, 2009 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Courtland, New York on October 06, 1944, he was the son of George and Pauli Button, Sr..

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, NY. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in the spring in Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Roger J. Sullivan
Roger J. Sullivan, 89, of Tupper Lake and more recently Avon, Indiana died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN. Born September 27, 1919 in Chicopee Falls, Mass, he was the son of John and Alice (Roy) Sullivan. On April 28, 1945, he married the former Catherine Granfield in Springfield, MA. Mr. Sullivan graduated from Northeastern University in 1953.

A veteran of WW II, he flew over 60 missions as a pilot of B-24 bombers serving as a 1st lieutenant with the U.S. Air Force based in New Guinea. Mr. Sullivan entered the employ of Oval Wood Dish Corp in 1949 as a salesman. In 1964, he and local attorney Adam Palmer purchased the woodenware division of Oval Wood Dish Corp and established O.W.D., Inc. Mr. Sullivan purchased Mr. Palmer’s interest in the company after a few years and grew it from a small regional venture into the second largest plastic utensil manufacturer in the world. Upon his retirement in 2003 he sold O.W.D., Inc. with a provision that the new owners keep the plant operating in Tupper Lake for at least 2 years after the sale.

Mr. Sullivan was a very active member of the Tupper Lake community. He was a member of the Tupper Lake Rotary Club where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a major promoter and contributor of the Tupper Lake Rotary Club’s track and field project. In 1996 he founded the Infant Jesus of Prague, a private foundation, from which thousands of dollars in donations and scholarships have benefited the Tupper Lake community. In 2002 Mr. Sullivan was awarded the Caritas Award by the Diocese of Ogdensburg for devoted and unselfish service to the people or Northern New York. In 2006 Roger was the recipient of the Liberty Bell award for his exemplary community service. He was a member of the Tupper Lake Country Club and served on the board of Saranac Lake Federal Savings and Loan. In recent years he was also a supporter the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks.

He is survived by his wife Kay of 63 years, two daughters, Dianne Bowden (Richard K.) and Maureen Kennelly (William J.), and five grandchildren, Craig, Ryan, and Emily Bowden, and Margaret and William R. Kennelly (Kelly A.). He is also survived by many nieces, and nephews, and their children. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Bresnahan (James).

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 11, from 4 to 7 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home in Tupper Lake. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Edgar “Butch” Madore Jr.
Edgar “Butch” Madore Jr., 66, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Tupper Lake NY. He was born in Tupper Lake on the 13th of June 1942 to Edgar and Alice (Gokey) Madore Sr. From 1964 -1965 he served in United States Army stationed in Fort Sill,  Oklahoma and Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.

Edgar was a Specialist 4 working with heavy artillery and the M60 tank. The army was where his love for heavy equipment began.

On October 22, 1966, Edgar was married to the late Donna Jane Gillis. Three sons were born to the marriage, Gary, Jeffrey and Robert.

The beloved father, husband, son and friend, devoted his life to working in the Adirondacks as a general contractor building homes, camps and numerous projects all around the Adirondacks. He took great pride in his work and as he explained it “America Ingenuity.”

Edgar took every job as a challenge and cherished each completed project. Edgar was a member of the VFW Post 3120.

Edgar was preceded in death by his father Edgar Madore Sr. and Donna Jane Madore. Edgar leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother Alice Madore of Tupper Lake, brothers Marvin and his wife Nancy Madore of Tupper Lake, John Madore, sisters Rita Madore of Tupper lake, Tammy Prater and her husband Danny of Dover Plains NY., and Mary Servant and her Husband Ed of North Harland, Vermont. Three sons, Gary and his wife Treva and grandsons Garrett and Hunter of the Woodlands,  Texas, son Jeffery Madore of Saratoga NY, son Robert Madore and Erica Martin along with grandchildren Brock, Gage and Honna of Tupper Lake, and a host of other loved ones and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday March 4th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm with a funeral service at 8pm at the Stuart- Fortune-Keough Funeral home. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus cemetery in May with full military honors. Memorial Contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to High Peaks Hospice. Steven R. Konkoski
Word has been received that Steven R. Konkoski peacefully left this earth surrounded by his family to be with Jesus on February 27, 2009 at CVPH medical center in Plattsburgh. Steven was born in Massena, NY on August 20, 1924, the son of Anthony and Veronica (Petruniaz) Konkoski and spent his childhood there. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served 3 years during World War II. He returned home and spent most of his years as a chef. He successfully managed the Tupper Lake Country Club restaurant and retired from the Tupper Lake Central School where he served as cook. Steven enjoyed playing with his two dogs, Buddy and Tinkerbell, spending time with his family, cooking holiday meals and working in his ceramic shop. He is survived by his wife Beulah A. Konkoski, a daughter Patricia Modell and husband Craig of Cedarburg, WI. a son Gary S. Konkoski of Saranac Lake, two step-daughters Heidi Cheney and her husband Michael of Tupper Lake and Brenda Carter and her husband Mark of Redford, a sister Mary Wilson and her husband Floyd of Massena. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, 13 siblings and one step-son Teddy Bourbeau. Winifred C. Vancour
Winifred C. Vancour, 81 of 135 Old Military Rd. passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Uihlein Mercy Center where she had been a resident since March 2005.

She was born in Lake Placid, NY January 28, 1928 the daughter of Campbell and Sadie (Preston) Bannerman. Mrs. Vancour was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1946 and had worked as Administrative Assistant for Dr. George Hart at his office in Lake Placid and at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. She married Thomas Vancour at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake, NY November 1948, Mr. Vancour died December 1984.

Mrs. Vancour is survived by her son, Mark Vancour and his wife Theresa of Williamson, NY; Two sisters, Millicent (Millie) Vancour and her husband Stanley of Lake Placid, NY and Lorraine Edgley and her husband David of Lake Placid, NY. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Shannon and Meghan Vancour of Williamson, NY; her close companion Neil Pratt of Lake Placid, NY and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband and one daughter, Laurie Marie Vancour all died earlier.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 24th from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. Funeral services wilt be held Wednesday, February 25th at 11:00 the funeral home. Rev. Ing rid  Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake placid, NY.

Richard Francis Godin
Richard “Dick” Godin, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at his home. Born August 20, 1922 on the end of Tupper Lake at the American Legion Mountain Camp. He was the first son of Francis and Marion Godin, Dick was the eldest of 11 children. The family moved to the Second Street “French Village” in Tupper Lake a few years later. Dick graduated from Holy Ghost Academy. In 1943, after completing Officer Candidate School, he was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and assigned to the transportation corps at Camp Anza in southern California.

Following his military service Dick returned to Tupper Lake and worked for a time at local lumber mills until he found temporary employment with the Sunmount V.A. Hospital unloading railroad coal cars. He quickly worked his way up the ranks to assistant chief fiscal officer. He continued his work with the facility when it became NYS Sunmount DDSO as assistant business officer and became business officer in 1967 until his retirement in 1982.

Dick was married to the former Geraldine “Jerry” Francis on June 28, 1947 at Holy Name Church. They had one son, Richard. The family was avid skiers, boaters and Dick was a member of various local hunting clubs. Both Dick and Jerry bowled and golfed for fun with friends. When they retired in the mid ‘80’s they found their real passion, RV’ing across the continent, visiting nearly every state and Canada. He was a member of the Tupper Lake Lions Club for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jerry and son Rick and his wife, Melissa and their children Lauren and Margaux. Dick is also survived by his brothers, Charles, Jack, and James, and sister Tessy. Services will be held at St. Alphonsus church in May and burial will be in the parish cemetery with full military honors. John "Jack" Murphy
John "Jack" Murphy of Daytona Beach, formerly of Saranac Lake, NY, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on February 20, 2009. He was 84.

Jack was born in Jersey City, NJ, on July 16, 1924. He was a WW II veteran, serving from 1942 to 1953 in the Navy, where he rose to the rank of Chief Quartermaster. In a career in Health Care Administration, Jack was the business

manager at Babies Hospital in Newark, NJ, the Assistant Administrator at Rahway Hospital in NJ, and, from 1967-1987, the Hospital Administrator for the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. He served on the Board of Directors for the Hospital Association for New York State.

Jack gave tirelessly of his time and talents to many organizations. No job was beneath him; he was the runner at Bingo, fish fry worker for the Port Orange Elks, and on the clean-up crew after a Church fair; he was the Rotarian (a Paul Harris Fellow) sweltering in the cotton candy booth at a July fundraiser. He was a lector at Our Lady of Hope, and did his best to provide support and comfort to those he visited as a volunteer for Hospice. After retirement, Jack devoted many hours as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman for the First Coast South Office of Efder Affairs where he was named Ombudsman of the Year more than once in recognition of his soft-spoken style and ability to effectively resolve disputes for patients, families, and staff in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. For Jack, it was always about service (and the doughnuts), not recognition. It was not unusual for his family to find evidence of awards hidden away, after the fact.

Jack enjoyed golf, and was a member of the Pelican Bay Country Club. For the past 15 years, he especially enjoyed the annual reunions with his Navy buddies from the bridge of the USS Cook Inlet AVP-36.

Jack leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Patricia (Brennan), daughters Kathleen Murphy of Martinez, California; Colleen Vella (Michael) of Cazenovia, New York; Maureen Murphy of Arvada, Colorado; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated, Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at 8:30 AM at Our Lady of Hope in Port Orange. A reception in the Church hall will follow.

Lawrence "Larry" Otranto, Jr.
Lawrence "Larry" Otranto, Jr., 47, son of Lawrence and Roberta (Alberino) Otranto, Sr. died Thursday, February 19, 2009 At the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. surrounded by all of his family. Larry was born in Keene Valley, NY on January 30, 1962 and was a graduate of the Lake Placid High School Class of 1980. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1984 thru 1988. He made his residence in Middleburgh, PA- and at the time of his death he was retired executive food administrator at the Allenwood Federal Correctional Complex. Lawrence is survived by his father and mother, Lawrence, Sr. and Roberta Otranto of Lake Placid, a sister, Teresa Peck and her husband peter, both of Lake placid, a brother Christopher Otranto of Saranac Lake, four nieces Vittoria Perry of California, Kristin Perry of

Lake placid, sierra peck of lake placid and Antqnia Otranto of Wilmington, NY, he is also survived by a nephew, Lorenzo Otranto of Saranac Lake, NY and several friends & relatives. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid Monday, February 23, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. a bible vigil service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 6:45 p.m. a Requiem Mass will be offered Tuesday morning at 11:00 a-m. At the St. Agnes Church in lake placid, rev. Joseph Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Cemetery in the spring. Robert J. Farmer
Robert J. Farmer, age 73, of 51 McClelland Street, Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on June 10, 1935, he was the son of Loyal and Violet (Tormey) Farmer. He married Sylvia Smith on May 9, 1959 in Muncy, PA.

Mr. Farmer was a life long resident of Saranac Lake and had been employed as a Police Dispatcher for the Saranac Lake Village Police Department for over 20 years until his retirement in 1993. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960. Mr. Farmer cared deeply for the well being of the youth in our community and had coached youth baseball and youth hockey for many years. Together with his wife Sylvia, he had also served as a foster parent for several years for children who needed a home. Since childhood Mr. Farmer was an avid fisherman and while growing up here he loved to get up early in the morning and go fishing before school. Later in life he spent a great deal of time fishing on lower Saranac Lake with family and friends. He also loved to build model airplanes.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia; four sons Mark Farmer and his wife Sharon of Lake Clear, NY, Robert Farmer and his wife Colleen of Saranac Lake, NY, Michael Farmer and his wife Joanne of Saranac Lake, NY, and Troy Farmer and his wife Luann of Saranac Lake, NY; one brother Steven Farmer and his wife Patricia of Vermontville, NY; two sisters Elizabeth Farmer of Saranac Lake, NY, and Sharon Branch and her husband Richard of Saranac Lake, NY; 8 Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one sister Linda Lamb.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, February 28, 2009 from 2PM - 4PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Word has been received of the death of Harold J. LaVair, Sr., age 83, of 77 Catherine Street, Malone, and formerly of Lake Clear, NY, who died on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone,

Calling hours are tentatively set to take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 7PM - 9PM. A Veterans Memorial Service will take place Wednesday evening at 8:45 PM immediately followed by a prayer service. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery in Lake Clear in the spring.
