Anthony Joseph Jackson
Schenectady -- Anthony Joseph Jackson, 4, of Odell St., died suddenly Friday at home.
Born in Schenectady, Anthony is the beloved son of Kristen Lea Sonnenfroh of Schenectady. Anthony is the brother of Brianna Lea Ann Burk of Schenectady; maternal grandson of George M. Sonnenfroh and maternal step grandson of Mary Ann Sonnenfroh, both of Schenectady; paternal grandson of Wanda Lea Wyman and paternal step grandson of Adam Wyman, both of Scotia; nephew of George M. Sonnenfroh, Jr., Timothy A. Sonnenfroh and Joseph W. Sonnenfroh, all of Schenectady. He is also survived by a step aunt, Misty LaPorte of Schenectady and a step uncle, Glen LaPorte of Albany.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning 11 a.m. at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Ave., Schenectady. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment, Schenectady Memorial Park.

Nellie La Mont
Huntersland, NY -- Mrs. Nellie La Mont, 77, of Huntersland Road, died Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County, Cobleskill.
Mrs. La Mont was born on September 2, 1925 in Gilboa, New York, a daughter of Garfield and Nona Egnor Mattice.
During WWII, Mrs. La Mont worked at the Schenectady Army Depot, then the Middleburgh News until it closed and finally at I–88 Express, Cobleskill until she retired. She was a member of the Huntersland United Methodist Church, Huntersland, NY.
She was the widow of John La Mont who died on July 18, 1993.
Mrs. La Mont is survived by a son and daughter–in–law, Steve and Anne La Mont of Huntersland; three sisters–in–law, Bessie Roney of Howes Cave, Lena Collins of Middleburgh and Phyllis Mattice of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by five brothers, Melvin, Henry, William, Victor and Frank Mattice.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. The Rev. Carol Coltrain, pastor of the Huntersland United Methodist Church, will officiate. There are no calling hours.
Burial will be at Middleburgh Cemetery.

William ‘Mac' Maclachlan
Schoharie -- William “Mac” Maclachlan, 61, of Schoharie Turnpike Quakerstreet, NY, died Friday, December 6, 2002 at St. Clare's Hospital.
He was born on October 11, 1941 in New York City.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963; Air Force Reserves for two years; U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 to 1972, receiving the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
After the service he was a Schenectady Police Officer for three years, then worked at various jobs including a bus driver at Schalmont, as well as a custodian at Schalmont, a Rotterdam Little League Coach and a member of the Rotterdam Elks.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Maclachlan whom he married in 1982; loving father of Michael Pidgeon and his wife, Dawn of Rotterdam, Dana Marie Flower of Duanesburg, and Christopher Pidgeon of Dania, FL; his grandchildren, Amberlyn Pidgeon, Victoria Pidgeon, and Gabriella Negron, who lovingly referred to Bill as “Poppy“; and a sister, Betty Juliano of Vero Beach, FL. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 10 to 11.
Burial will be in Saratoga National Cemetery.
Robert E. McGann
Guilderland -- Robert E. McGann, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 6, 2002 at the Ann Lee Home in Colonie.
Mr. McGann was born in Albany, the son of the late Elwood and Mary (Kay) McGann. He lived in Altamont and Guilderland for many years and worked as a plant baker for Freihofer Baking Co. in Albany. He served in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by two daughters, Tracy McGann of Scotia, and Alicia McGann of Glen, NY; two grandchildren, Felicia and Tyler; three sisters, Mary L. McGann of Altamont, Sheila Guay of Schenectady, and Janet Farrand of Altamont; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam.

Beatrice M. Miller
Schenectady -- Beatrice M. Miller of Schenectady, died Sunday at St. Clare's Hospital.
Mrs. Miller was born in Schenectady and was a lifelong city resident. She was employed as a payroll supervisor at the General Electric Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1974. Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady.
She was married to George H. Miller until his death in 1944. She is also predeceased by her sister, Marguerite Koch.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her loving family and special friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services which will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union Street. There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady.

John J. ‘Jack' Picinich
Clifton Park -- John J. “Jack” Picinich, 65, died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, Clifton Park Center Rd. Calling hours at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
James Carr Potter
Pattersonville -- James Carr Potter, 88, of Pattersonville, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at his home.
He was born in Oneonta and was the son of the late William L. and Helen M. Wainwright Potter. James had resided in Pattersonville since 1953. He worked as a dairy farmer for most of his life.
He was the husband of the late Mariam Cross Potter.
Survivors include his sons,Adelbert J. Potter of Paducah, KY, and David Potter of Pattersonville; grandchildren, James C. Potter III, and April Jo Perez; his great-grandchild, Maria Perez.
Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
Leila Schmidt
Schenectady -- Leila Schmidt, 28, of McClellan St., died Saturday at St. Clare's Hospital.
She was born in Queens, NY and was a lifelong area resident. Leila was a homemaker and enjoyed poetry and oil painting.
Leila will be forever missed by her mother, Monica Keaveney of Schenetady; brother, Ryan Schmidt and his wife Christina of West Seneca, NY; two uncles, John Keaveney and his wife Jean of W. Richland, Washington, and Hugh Keaveney of Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as numerous cousins, and a close family friend, George H. Elliott.
At Leila's request, there will be no public services.
Leila was an avid bird lover and contributions may be made in her memory to Berkshire Bird Paradise, 43 Red Pond Road, Petersburg, NY.
Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home of Schenectady.
Michael J. Shaughnessy
Troy -- Michael J. Shaughnessy Sr., DDS of Birchkill Lane, died Friday, December 6, 2002 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Michael F. and Mary Converse Shaughnessy.
Mike received his early education at the former St. Francis de Sales School, Catholic Central High School and Troy High School. He was a graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, MA, Farleigh Dickinson University Dental School and the School of Oral Surgery at Tufts University.
Dr. Shaughnessy established his practice of Oralmaxillofacial Surgery in Troy in 1971. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as an oral surgeon in Munich, Germany during the Vietnam War. He had also been stationed at West Point and was discharged with the rank of Major. He was a senior attending physician at both Samaritan Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, as well as being past president of the dental staff at both hospitals.
He was a member and past President of the Troy Study Club, a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Society, the Troy Dental Study Club, the American Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the New York State Oralmaxillofacial Surgeons. Mike was a communicant of St. Francis De Sales Church in Troy and in 1981, he was named Father of the Year at St. Gregory's School for Boys. He was a former member of the DuMoire River Rod and Gun Club and the Hendrick Hudson Rod and Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary DeLucia Shaughnessy; his children, Michael Jr., Ann, Allison and Franceen; his brother, John Shaughnessy of California; his sisters, Patricia Cartwright of Springfield, VA and Maureen Gorman of Cropseyville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Bizzaro Funeral Home, 171 Hill St., Troy and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis De Sales Church. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery.

Dorothy I. Stevens
Saratoga Springs -- Dorothy I. Stevens, 87, of Lake Avenue, died Friday, December 6, 2002 at Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home.
Born on October 28, 1915 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Alvin H. and Isabella (DeMott) Stevens.
A lifelong area resident and longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Saratoga Springs, she enjoyed baking, crocheting and knitting.
Mrs. Stevens was predeceased by her husband, Charles Stevens.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Dr. Willis and Elizabeth Stevens of Wayne, PA, and Helen and Robert Browne of Horseheads, NY; three great–nephews; one great–niece; and several cousins, including Laura DeMott of Saratoga Springs.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Willis, Charles, Floyd and Elwin Stevens; and a sister, Alice Stevens.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. today, December 9 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway. Friends may call from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home prior to the services.
Burial will be in the spring at Greenridge Cemetery.

Donna L. Walker
Sharon Springs -- A memorial service will be announced at a later date for Donna L. Walker, 39, who died in a motorcycle accident on December 3, 2002 in Orlando, FL. Survivors include a son, Jeff Walker of Warnerville; a daughter, Jessica Walker of Sloansville; two sisters, Carla Walker and Paula Hurd; and her father, George Slater of Sharon Springs.

Hamilton Acheson
Hyndsville -- Hamilton Acheson, 94, of Lawyersville Road, died Thursday, January 30, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
Mr. Acheson was born on September 15, 1908 in Hancock, NY, the son of John and Frances (Ihler) Acheson. He retired in 1972 from the Cobleskill School District, where he was a teacher of sciences since 1931. Mr. Acheson earned his master's of arts degree from the Albany University, as well as his bachelor's of arts degree in 1931. In 1965, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher's Award given by the New York State Department of Education.
Mr. Acheson was a United States Veteran, with an honorable discharge as a lieutenant commander. He served from 1942 to 1947 in active duty, which included the Normandy Beach invasion. Mr. Acheson was released from the reserves in 1961. He was a life member of the American Legion Fred L. Stilson Post #57 of Cobleskill.
Mr. Acheson was a former captain of the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, was a justice of the peace for the town of Seward, served on the Schoharie County Planning Board, and was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons of Cobleskill. He was also an active member of the Schoharie County Republican Party, and the oldest member of the Cobleskill Exchange Club, where at one time, he served as president.
Mr. Acheson married Margaret Neeson of May 6, 1947, and she died on July 18, 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Aakvik of Asenfjord, Norway; a son, Robert Acheson of Rensselaer; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 3, at the Mereness–Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be the Rev. Bert Mayne of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 2, at the funeral home.
Spring internment will be in the Zion Rural Cemetery, Seward.

Lena D. Alessi
Amsterdam -- Mrs. Lena D. Alessi, 75, a former resident of Parkhill Adult Home, passed away Thursday at Montgomery Meadows following a long illness.
Born on January 28, 1928 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Samuel and Melena Rizzo Bursese. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. She was employed as a clerk for Hays & Wormuth in Amsterdam. Mrs. Alessi was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Amsterdam Women's Business and Professional Club.
She was predeceased in 1992 by her beloved husband, Joseph Alessi.
Her loving family includes her sisters, Carmella Oropallo of Amsterdam and Helen Rowan of Galway. She is also survived by her dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Alessi was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Bursese, of Hawaii.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Calling hours are Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery.
