She was a communicant of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, a member of its Altar Guild and its secretary for many years. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star. Her husband, Millard Retchless, died in 1973. Survivors: Her longtime companion, Edward H. Trotman; two daughters, Carolyn Hofmann of Baldwinsville and Ellen Mullane of East Syracuse; a son, Gary Retchless of East Syracuse; seven grandchildren. Services: 9 a.m. Monday at Delaney & Graebell Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. in Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Burial, Collamer Cemetery. Francis W. Parkinson, 84, of 42 Augustus St., Auburn, died Thursday. Born in Watertown, he graduated from Black River High School. He retired in 1978 from New Process Gear after 26 years. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Church in Auburn. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 56 years, the former Helen Lyke; a sister, Jean Anderson of Davenport, Iowa; a brother, Alexander M. of Glen Park. Gladys Burns Sawner, 93, of state Route 26, Vernon Center, died Thursday. Born in Vernon Center, she graduated from Vernon High School and Syracuse University. She retired in 1974 as a music and art teacher for the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill school district. She had been the oldest member of Church of the Holy Family. Her husband, Clifford, died in 1982. Survivors: Three daughters, Kathryn Sawner of Buffalo, Joyce Howard of Sherrill and Mary Ann Medley of Batavia; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a former member of the Fairmount Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Fairmount Tuesday Night Club and a communicant of Holy Family Church, Fairmount. Her husband, Ellis, died in 1988. Survivors: Two daughters, Linda Schubarg of Liverpool and Susan Baker of Baldwinsville; three sons, Richard of Fort Myers, Fla., Frederick of Brewerton and Mark of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Elizabeth Linehan of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. William J. Curtis

William J. Curtis, 87, of 37 South St., Marcellus, died Saturday at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Syracuse, he lived many years in Marietta before moving to Marcellus in 1988. He retired in 1981 after 17 years with the New York State Department of Transportation, LaFayette, and previously worked 10 years for the Onondaga County Department of Transportation, Marcellus. He was a member of Amber Congregational Church and past chaplain and charter member of the Otisco Valley Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5494, Marietta. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 55 years, the former Joyce  White; a daughter, Bonnie Slack of Webster; a son, Michael J. of Marietta; a sister, Valetta Shepard of Onondaga Hill; three grandchildren. Elanora E. "Betty" Ryan Elliott, 83, formerly of Providence House, 1700 W. Onondaga St., Syracuse, died Thursday at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre. Born in Syracuse, she graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School and Syracuse Secretarial School. She retired in 1982 as a claims secretary at Trans America Insurance Co. after 35 years. She was a communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church and a member of American Legion Post 1276. She was an Army veteran of World War II. Her husband, Donald A., died in 1975. Survivors: Several nieces and nephews. Services: 8:30 a.m. Monday at Whelan Bros. Funeral Home, 3700 W. Genesee St., Fairmount, and 9:15 a.m. in St. Joseph's Chapel of Most Holy Rosary Church. Ann M. Tylka Kadah, 67, of Manlius died Wednesday. Born in Lwow, Poland, she graduated from Central Technical High School and attended Syracuse University. She retired as treasurer at Omnetics, Syracuse. She was a member and former treasurer of the Weighlock Guild at the Erie Canal Museum and a supporter of Syracuse Symphony and Syracuse Stage. Survivors: Her former husband, Hassan of Appleton, Wis.; four daughters, Dianne Kadah of New Jersey, Laurie Kadah of Manlius, Yasmine Heath of Fayetteville and Lamise Carano of Reno, Nev.; two sons, Ronald of Fayetteville and Andrew of Clay; her stepfather, Andrew Hudzicki of Manlius; six grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. She retired after 30 years as owner of Russo's Grocery Store, Oswego, and previously worked 14 years at Kline's department store and 10 years at Weston department store. She was a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Human Concerns and at St. Luke Residential Health Care Facility. Her husband, James, died in 1978; a son, John R. Sr., died in 1987. Survivors: A daughter, Frances Beck of Michigan; six sons, James of Huntington, Samuel, Charles and William, all of Oswego, Albert of Niagara Falls and Frank of Connecticut; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
