Austin, Rodney E. "Hap"
MARION: Died on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital at the age of 75. Mr. Austin was born on December 24, 1928 in Marion, New York to Ralph and Gertrude Goosen Austin. He was a 1947 graduate of Marion High School and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. The funeral home proudly flies the Marine Corp flag in honor of his service to our country. Mr. Austin was especially proud to be a member of the Marion Memorial Post #1430 of the American Legion for more than 45 years. Hap and the former Marion Sindinski were married on August 22, 1959 in St. Gregory's Church in Marion. In addition to his wife Marion, Mr. Austin is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Austin; sons, David and Paul Austin; and grandsons, Jeffrey Steiner II and Michael Steiner. DeBarr, Gerald D.
Newark: Gerald D. DeBarr, 74, died Saturday (February 14, 2004) at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mr. DeBarr was born in Newark on November 29, 1929, the son of David and Margaret De Smith De Barr. A 1947 graduate of New ark High School, Gerry attended Cornell University until 1950 when he joined the US Army, serving in Germany as a MP. Upon his return from the Service, he joined his father in the carpentry business of David DeBarr and Son in Newark. In 1971, he became a project superintendent for Roche-Kimberly Construction in Palmyra. He also taught carpentry at BOCES in Oswego County and in 1976 attained his permanent teaching certificate from the State University of New York. Gerry was maintenance supervisor for the Newark Development Center for six years and then plant superintendent for the Syracuse Developmental Center until his retirement in 1994. He has currently been serving on the Town of Arcadia Planning Board, the County of Wayne Planning Board and the Federal Commission Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. Mr. DeBarr served four years as a Town of Arcadia Councilman and four years as Town of Arcadia Supervisor, he also served on the Wayne County Board of Supervisors and was Chairman of the Wayne County Water Supply Agency. Gerry was a member of St. Michael Church and Past Grand Knight of the Newark Council #897, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the August Mauer Post #286 American Legion, the Arcadia Memorial Post 2883 VFW and the Newark Elks Lodge #1249. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sally Slade De Barr, daughter and son-in-law Valerie and William Kubera of Cicero, grandchildren Peter, Kimberly, Kristen; two sisters Mary Jane (Clayton) Cornwell of Himrod and Kathleen (George) Cornwell of Satsuma, Fl., a niece Mary Lisa Maslyn and three nephews John, Jeffrey and Josh Cornwell. Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Monday (Feb. 16) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. PALMYRA: Passed away peacefully February 9, 2004, age 72 at Newark Wayne Hospital. He is survived by his mother Eugenia Napierala; siblings, Irene Smigera, Daniel (Nancy) Napierala, Thomas (Adele) Napierala, Robert (Elaine) Napierala, Joann Napierala, Raymond (Debra) Napierala.
