George L. King
MARGARETVILLE George L. King, 86, of Margaretville passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.
George was born on Feb. 16, 1917, in the Bronx, the son of John King and Alice Farley.
He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II.
He was a retired bell hop from the Berkshire Hotel in New York City. He moved to Margaretville in April 1996 from Queens Village.
George enjoyed sports on TV and horse racing, and was a great Yankee fan.
George is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Phil and Barbara Mariotti, and his daughter, Carol Burns; his son, George L. King Jr.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, John King.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the funeral home, with the Very Rev. James J. McDevitt officiating.
Burial will be in the Clovesville Cemetery in Fleischmanns at a later date.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville, NY 12455.

Fred E. Knott
BOKEELIA, Fla. Fred E. Knott, 87, of Bokeelia, Fla., and formerly of Oneonta, died Jan. 6, 2004, in Cape Coral, Fla.
Fred was born Oct. 11, 1916, in Windsor, a son of the late Fred and Carolyn Fleming Knott.
Fred and his wife owned and operated Knott's Motel on Goodyear Lake for many years.
He was a former president of the Goodyear Lake Association and had been active in local politics. He was retired from the Bendix Corp., in Sidney.
Fred is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris White Knott, of Bokeelia; son, Fred (Barbara) Knott of Oneonta; daughter, Jo Ann Lutomski of Houston, Texas; grandson, Michael Lutomski of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Clemow officiating. The family will be present on Saturday to receive friends from noon until service time.
Interment will be in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, Windsor.
Local arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
Gerald C. Smith
MOODUS, Conn. Gerald C. Smith Jr., 43, of Clark Gates Road, Moodus, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at his home after a prolong illness.
He was the beloved husband of Nancy A. Lavriha-Smith.
Jerry was born in Sidney on May 26, 1960, son of Gerald C. and Ann (Landefeld) Smith Sr., of North Carolina.
Jerry graduated from Sidney High School in 1978 and received a B.S. in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Houston; he also was a service engineer for Babcock and Wilcox in New York City while residing in Kingston. Jerry moved to Moodus in June 1999.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two children, Devin, 13, and J.T., 10; his grandmother, Shirley Smith; and two sisters, Shelley Bingham and Kristen Sanabria. Jerry is also survived by Nancy's parents, Kathryn, and the late David Lavriha; and her three sisters, Susan Stanley, Kathryn Douglas and Diane Hunt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget's of Kildare. (All are requested to go directly to church.)
Family and friends may call at the Swan Funeral Home, 27WF Palmer Road, Moodus, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory, in lieu of flowers, to the Middlesex Hospital Home Care/Hospice, 51 Broad St., Middletown, CT 06457.
William P. Ackerley
GILBOA William P. Ackerley, 87 years, of Gilboa passed away at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, on Jan. 5, 2004.
He was born in Margaretville, on April 21, 1916, son of the late Preston and Bertha (Barkman) Ackerley.
William was a dairy farmer and was a school-bus driver for many years for the Gilboa-Conesville Central School.
He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his loving wife for 67 years, Marjorie (Faulkner) Ackerley; three daughters, Jackie Cotter and her husband, Kevin, of Johnstown, Iris Wood and her husband, Milton, of Breakabeen, and Joyce Stuver of Middleburgh; two sons, Douglas Ackerley and his wife, Betty, of Flatcreek, and Donald Ackerley and his wife, Barbara, of Hobart; also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Gary Ackerley; three brothers; and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the Fultonham Methodist Church on Route 30 in Fultonham.
As to his wishes, cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery.
Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the Conesville Rescue Squad.

Andrew W. Ordog
WORCESTER Mr. Andrew W. Ordog, 83, of Roe Road, town of Worcester, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2004, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill, after suffering a severe stroke 31/2 weeks ago.
Mr. Ordog was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Palisades, a son of Andrew and Julia (Newirth) Ordog. He had resided in Palisades before purchasing the property on Roe Road in 1958, and eventually moving his family to the farm in 1968.
Andrew served in the United States Navy Seabees serving in the Asiatic Pacific and American Theatre's during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Machinist's Mate in 1946.
Andrew was educated in Palisades. He operated an auto repair and body shop downstate and was a self-employed beef farmer in Worcester for many years, including making hay on his farm this past summer. Several years ago, he had also worked for SCCAP delivering meals-on-wheels and doing home weatherization.
He was a former member of the John Paulding Volunteer Fire Department in Sparkill.
As a young man, he worked for Barnum & Bailey Circus as a tiger trainer and had flown solo in small aircraft many times.
His wife, Annette (Newkirk) Ordog, whom he married on Sept. 27, 1953, predeceased him on Nov. 21, 1998.
Survivors include one daughter, Aileen Lawton and her husband, Christopher, of Schoharie; one son, Andrew C. Ordog of Worcester; one sister, Irean Sumacewski of Cobleskill; two grandsons, Kobey and Kenneth Lawton; and nieces and nephews.
Andrew was predeceased by two sisters, Yulan Tracy in 2003 and Cary Waldron in 1981; along with a brother, Louis, in 1930.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main St., Schoharie, followed by a service at 1 p.m. Mr. Carmine DeStefano, nephew of Andrew, will officiate.
Burial, with military honors, will be held at a later date in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Worcester Volunteer Ambulance Service, Main Street, East Worcester, NY 12064 or to the Worcester Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 430, Worcester, NY 12197.

Helen L. Gonsalves
COOPERSTOWN Helen L. Gonsalves (Gizzie Ruth Harriott) passed gently from us on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She had lived for many years on her family farm on Thayer Road near the village of Cooperstown.
Helen was born in New York City on Nov. 30, 1920, one of five children, born to Americus (Edward) Gizzie and Patricia Biller Gizzie.
Her beloved brother Edward J. Gizzie died in 1988, and her beloved younger sister, Leona Posillico, passed away in 1996. Helen's husband, John E. Gonsalves, predeceased her in 1989.
She is survived by her sister Dorothy Bunker and her brother Richard E. Gizzie. Helen is also survived by her brother-in-law, Larry Posillico. Helen loved and was very proud of her many nieces, nephews and their families. Helen was the mother of six children, the eldest son, William H. Ruth Jr. and wife Sharon of Hartwick, Reginald Harriott of Texas and Mexico, Patricia H. Carr and husband David of Milford, Leona D. Ferris and husband Steve of Massachusetts, John E. Gonsalves Jr. of New York and Michael Gonsalves and wife Maryann of Florida.
Helen was a grandmother many times over as well as a great-grandmother. She is survived by her grandchildren, Gina Ruth Fish and children, Elissa and Robert of Albany, Tina Ruth Emery and children, A.J. and Robert, Cindy Ruth Grubb and children, Christopher and Andrea, Rachele Ruth Tycksen and children, Jelissa, Conrad, Holly and Stormy, William H. Ruth III and child, Devita, and Fawn Ruth. Jason Harriott and wife Ryan and child, Raelynne, Jesse Harriott and wife Jill, and Janessa Harriott. Michele Carr Secor and husband Scott and son Ryan, SP4 Christopher Carr US Army. Shannon Ferris Fitzgibbons, husband Bill. Shaurice Ferris and Shauna Ferris. Joshua and Nicholas Gonsalves and Derek. Marshall and Grant Gonsalves.
During her lifetime, Helen enjoyed working in an aircraft plant during World War II, employment with the electronics company, Harmen-Karden, working at Gladding-Keystone on River Street in Oneonta and after many years retiring as a clinical medical lab technician from M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
Helen loved living in rural upstate New York, where she raised pigs and chickens and grew asparagus and strawberries. She was a trained artist. She enjoyed reading classic and popular publications. She sewed, crocheted, cooked and experimented with baking breads, cookies and pies.
Following her retirement, Helen was able to travel to Egypt, Israel, Italy and Germany.
She also volunteered for the Red Cross and was a Pink Lady volunteering at Bassett Hospital.
Helen requested that there be no funeral or calling hours.
Her family will plan a private memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make a donation to a charity or cause that is meaningful to them in Helen's memory.

Anne (Amo) Martin
EAST MEREDITH Anne Marie (Amo) Martin, 64, of Turnpike Road, East Meredith, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle of three years with cancer.
She was born Jan. 20, 1941, in Hobart, the daughter of Forest and Genevieve Archibald.
She married Lloyd (Pete) Martin on Aug. 1, 1959, in Schenevus. They were married for 46 years.
Anne Marie was a retired partner of Martin Farm Partnership after 46 years on the farm. She enjoyed membership in the Assembly of God Church, Delhi, and previously the East Meredith Presbyterian Church; and other farm, church and community groups.
She had a great love for not-so-privileged children and opened her home to a dozen or more who came to be a part of the "Amo" family over several years.
Writing letters and visiting with friends and family were important to Anne Marie, as were singing and playing the piano, cooking, reading and enjoying rides in the country.
She was predeceased by her father, Forest Archibald; her stepfather, Dwight Dibble; her special friend, Judy Martin-Finch, and several relatives.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd (Pete) Martin; son, Mike and wife Lisa Martin of Oneonta; daughter, Paula Martin of Rochester; three beloved grandchildren, Emily, Garrett and Kyle Martin, Oneonta; her mother, Genevieve and husband Dan Tait, Crossville, Tenn.; a brother, Ted Archibald and wife Frances, Hobart; two sisters, Mary Jean and husband Leon, Churchill, Inverness, Fla., and Beverly and husband Gary Rehbein, Lakeland, Fla.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and -in-laws,
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, in the Assembly of God Church, Delhi, with Pastor Doug Harding and Pastor Carl Orlando officiating.
Calling hours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.
Burial will take place at a later date.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice or to the Assembly of God Church, Delhi.

Phillip R. Parks
NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio Phillip R. Parks, 69, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning, Sept. 28 2005, at his residence.
He was born June of 1936, a son of the late David J. and Evangeline Hope Parks.
A 1954 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, he attended Youngstown College, majoring in biology and zoology.
He was a sergeant in the United States Army, stationed in Korea.
Phillip was a meat cutter for the local A&Ps, then a meat cutter at Safeway in Kingman, Ariz., and Los Angeles. While he was in Arizona, he owned and operated the Bar-None Bakery in the Mojave. (Sold doughnuts in the desert.) He then moved back to Youngstown in 1965 and was a scarfer/burner at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, after working a short time as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
In 1966, he became a services technician for AT&T Ohio Bell (SBC), from where he took early retirement in 1993. He earned a CDL-Class A in 1995 from TDDS and worked briefly in the trucking industry before he moved to Mililani, Oahu, Hawaii, where he lived from 1996 until the middle of 1998, living with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and one and only grandchild, Kevin Phillip Keanu Musser, his daily walking buddy. In 1998, he returned to Ohio and worked for Tri-county Distributing until November of 2001.
Phillip was an excellent water skier and ice skater in his younger years, a tennis player and an avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan. He was a history buff, loved reading, music, playing chess and enjoyed working with his son in their workshop.
Besides his wife, the former Betty Jean (Elizabeth) Streb, whom he married in June of 1964, he leaves his daughter, Katie Jo Gengenbach (Mike) of Milford; his son, David Phillip Parks of New Middletown; two sisters, Patricia Parks of Oak Creek, Wis., and Lynne (Paul) OShea of Springfield, Ill., a brother, Ralph Parks of Toledo; and his precious grandson, Kevie Keanu of Milford.
There will be no services or calling hours.
