Gladys E. Warner
ONEONTA — Gladys E. Warner, 90, of Oneonta died Monday, March 14, 2005, at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, Pa.
She was born Dec. 5, 1914, in Afton, the daughter of Harvey S. and Emmaline (Bailey) Baker.
She married Perry L. Warner in 1933 in Oneonta. Mr. Warner predeceased her Sept. 23, 1980.
Gladys was the office manager/bookkeeper at the Oneonta Country Club for 28 years until her retirement.
She enjoyed doing crafts, shopping, playing board games and playing bridge (in which she was in two bridge clubs in Oneonta). She was a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Oneonta.
Gladys was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Ann Warner of St. Cloud, Fla., and Wayne and Rosalie Warner of Clarks Green, Pa.; two grandsons, Richard Michael and Vicky Warner of St. Cloud, Fla., and Jeffrey Brian Warner of the United States Air Force stationed in Alaska; two great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathon Warner of St. Cloud, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was predeceased by her four brothers, Carl, Floyd, Marion and Cecil Baker.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, in the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell officiating.
Burial will be held in the spring in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2005, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820 in loving memory of Gladys E. Warner.

Doris Wilbur
SIDNEY — Doris Rumsey "Doddie" Wilbur of Sidney passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, March 14, 2005, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.
She was born May 1, 1928, in Lockwood, the daughter of the late Ralph and Ethel Brown Rumsey.
She graduated from Spencer High School and moved to Sidney in 1956.
On Oct. 16, 1954, she married Daniel B. Wilbur in Sayre, Pa. He predeceased her June 4, 1985.
Doddie was a retired employee of the Amphenol Corporation of Sidney.
She is survived by three sisters, Myrtle R. Barnes of Horseheads, Dorothy R. Chauncey of Lockwood and Mabel R. Hodges of Spencer, and a brother, Richard E. Rumsey of Spencer. Also surviving are 10 nephews, seven nieces and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
A son, James "Jimmie" Wilbur, predeceased her Nov. 11, 1966.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, March 17, 2005, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. A prayer services will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
Burial services will be held in the spring at the Halsey Valley Cemetery.

Peter Sabedra
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Francis "Peter" Sabedra, 69, of Los Angeles, Calif., passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005, after an extended illness at Care Meridian in Artesia, Calif.
Peter was born in his home in Laurens on Dec. 28, 1935, son of Andrew and Beatrice Sabedra.
Peter was a resident in this area until 1977. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he lived his dream of gardening all year long.
He was known as the Santa Claus look-alike with his long white hair and beard and his big round belly.
Peter is survived by his mother, Beatrice Sabedra; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Amelia Sabedra of Harbor City, Calif.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bonny and Russell Simonds of Otego, Stephanie and Robert Lutz of Oneonta and Wendy and Gary McMullen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Len Cairns of Bovina Center, Shirley Parsons of Oregon, Sandra and Charlie Markel of Cooperstown, Patricia and Kenneth Hughes of Milford and Andrea and Bob Strom of Otego; a brother, Andrew Sabedra and friend Susan Sutherland of Laurens; 11 grandchildren, Shannon O’Donnell, Cheyenne Sabedra, Shana Martinez, Corey Underwood, Scott Simonds, Nathan Underwood, Sarah Lutz, Danielle McMullen, Joshua Sabedra, James Simonds and Nicholas Lutz; five great-grandchildren, Amanda O’Donnell, Elisha Sabedra, Noah O’Donnell, Elizabeth Martinez and Olivia Martinez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Andrew Sabedra; a brother, Robert Sabedra; and a former wife, Claudine Sabedra.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating. The family will receive friends and family at the Portlandville United Methodist Church on state Highway 28, where a reception will be held immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Timothy Sabedra, 1658 West 251st St., Harbor City, CA 90710, for a park bench to be placed at the Care Meridian in Artesia, Calif., in loving memory of Peter.

Lois D. Hammond
NORFOLK, Va. — Lois Dodge Hammond, 98, widow of Leslie William Hammond, went home to the Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2005.
She was born Jan. 20, 1907, in Worcester, the daughter of the Rev. Wilbur Dodge and Katherine Smith Dodge.
She graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn. During her career as a registered nurse, she practiced in hospital and private-care environments.
Mrs. Hammond and her husband resided in Oneonta during the 1920s and 1930s before moving to Watertown, and then in 1961 to Hampton, Va.
Mrs. Hammond was a member of the Parkside Alliance Church in Watertown and the Hampton Roads Baptist Church in Hampton, Va., where she was a member of numerous church groups.
Mrs. Hammond married Leslie Hammond on April 22, 1932, in Tunkhannock, Pa. Mr. Hammond passed to the Lord on June 15, 1969, in Harrisonburg, Va.
She is survived by a sister, Ellen Wilber of Cooperstown; two daughters, Sue Pardy of Norfolk, Va., and Kay Abell of Watertown; a son, Leslie of Hampton, Va.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, in the spring.
The family requests memorials are taken in the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
James G. Kelso
DUXBURY, Mass. — James G. Kelso of Duxbury, Mass., died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Norwell Knoll Nursing Home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in 1919 and raised in Worcester, son of Annabel (Fisher) and John Edward Kelso. He was a 50-year resident of Duxbury, Mass.
After his graduation from Dartmouth College, he served in World War II, first in the Field Artillery and then in the 82nd Airborne, reaching the rank of major.
He received his master’s and doctorate degrees from Harvard University. He was later a member of the MIT faculty and administration, eventually becoming assistant to the president, James R. Killian.
He was appointed executive director of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce in 1965. He later became an investment banker.
In Duxbury, he devoted many years to town government. He was on the Finance Committee, School Committee, Planning Board and Conservation Commission, as well as many other town boards. He served six years as selectman. "I wish I could have done more," he said.
He leaves his wife, Dorothy of Duxbury; daughter, Deborah and husband Cliff Pye of Lawrence, Kan., daughter, Tass and husband George Maentz of Colorado Springs, Colo., his daughter, Laurie of Duxbury; and his son, Tony and wife Jane of Duxbury. He also leaves five grandchildren; and his sister, Elizabeth Caiazza of Worcester.

Joyce H. McIntosh
BLOOMVILLE — Joyce H. (Lewis) McIntosh, 65, of Bloomville passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at home with her family by her side.
She was born Oct. 14, 1939, in Thurston, the daughter of Porter and Mary (Manning) Lewis, former residents of Elk Creek Road, Delhi.
She married William C. McIntosh on June 25, 1961, in Delhi. Joyce lived in Bloomville since 1961, where she was a loving mother and wife.
For 25 years she served as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hamden. She enjoyed employment waitressing in the Delhi and Bloomville area, as well as working at Graham Labs, PennQuality Meats and in health care.
The last three years, Mrs. McIntosh thoroughly enjoyed painting, and through those paintings she touched many people’s lives in portraits of family and pets.
She is survived by three children, Debbie and her husband, Chris Wheeler, Billy and his wife, Kim McIntosh, and their children, Bobby, Brian and Taylor, and Darlene McIntosh and Virgil Oakley and his children, Kyle and Ryan, all of Bloomville; her sister, JoAnn Hickling of Alabama; and many other family members and friends who touched her life.
Her husband, William, predeceased her in 2000; and her parents and a brother, Wilber Lewis, also predeceased her.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, in the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with Elder John Newton officiating.
Calling hours for friends are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at the funeral home. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville, in the spring.

Alton D. Adams
EAST WORCESTER — Alton D. Adams, 81, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born April 4, 1923, in Cobleskill, the son of David and Leona (Davis) Adams.
Mr. Adams married Minnie Roe Gallup on May 18, 1957, in Charlotteville. She predeceased him Dec. 2, 1999.
Mr. Adams was employed at General Electric in Schenectady as an assembler in the Division of Motors Department, retiring in 1974. He also worked part time for the town of Worcester Highway Department. He was a member of the East Worcester United Methodist Church, the Cobleskill Eagle’s Club and an honorary and life member of the East Worcester Fish and Game Club. Mr. Adams especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Adams is survived by his children, Mrs. Spencer (Priscilla) Davis of Leesburg, Fla., Mrs. William (Joanne) Fisher of East Worcester, Mrs. Jack (Bunnie) Hand of Oneonta and Burdette and Connie Gallup of Oneonta; 10 grandchildren, George Jenkins of East Worcester, Donald Jenkins of East Worcester, Terry Lorette of Worcester, Tammy Jenkins of Ocoee, Fla., Stacy Reed of Ormond Beach, Fla., William Fisher II of East Worcester, Michelle Stocking of Cherry Valley, Kimberly Gwozdz of East Springfield, Amy Harrington of Oneonta and Toby Gallup; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Shuflet, in 1989.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, March 24, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. George I. Goodwin Jr., retired, officiating.
Interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, will take place at a later time.

Romaine Marie Richer
CLOVIS, N.M. — Mrs. Romaine Marie (Rogers) Quaif Richer, 85, formerly of Cooperstown, died unexpectedly Saturday night, March 12, 2005, at The Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, New Mexico.
Romaine was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Calvin L. and M. Leona (Billings) Rogers.
She was first married to Harry G. Quaif on June 27, 1938, in Cooperstown. Harry died July 14, 1963. She was then married to Clarence Richer on Sept. 14, 1968, in Cooperstown. Mr. Richer died Sept. 5, 1984.
Raised in the Cooperstown area, Romaine attended Cooperstown High School. Following her marriage, she was very active in her husband’s plumbing and heating business in addition to raising their family and keeping their home, which was located on upper Main Street in Cooperstown. Following her husband’s death, she was employed at J.J. Newberry’s in Cooperstown and later moved to Milford. About 10 years ago, she moved first to Clovis, N.M., and then to Florida, where she lived in La Belle and later in Okeechobee. Two years ago, she returned to Clovis, which she greatly enjoyed.
Romaine possessed a great sense of humor and was not only "Mom" to her children, but was their buddy and best friend as well. She loved to sew, knit and crochet, and also enjoyed cooking for her family. She also enjoyed going for rides in her son’s VW convertible and spending time with her cat, Muffin.
She is survived by two sons, Robert G. Quaif and his wife, Sheila, of Schaghticoke and Jack L. Quaif and his wife, Sharon, of Clovis, N.M.; two daughters, Jean Richards and her husband, Harry, of Clovis, N.M., and Susan R. Quaif and her companion, Dale Sullivan, of Cooperstown; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Joann Quaif of Belmont, Miss.; one stepdaughter, Jenny Boss of Richfield Springs; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sophie B. Rogers and Mrs. Helen R. Rogers, both of Cooperstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to both her husbands, she was predeceased by one son, Gerald ("Jerry") Quaif, who died two months ago, and two brothers, Carlton C. Rogers, who died July 15, 1979, and Gerald W. Rogers, who died Nov. 26, 1989.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Charles V. Steed Memorial Chapel at the Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis, N.M., with the Rev. Ron Eggleton officiating.
A graveside service will take place at a later date in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.
Local funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
Douglas E. Raastad
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Douglas Eric Raastad, 35, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 24, 1969, in Norwich. Doug moved to Port Charlotte in 1988 from New York state. He was an avid stock car racer and a member of the "DDD" racing club. Doug worked in the construction trade for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy of Port Charlotte, along with four daughters, Gabrielle, Courtney, Ashlee and Kaysie Raastad; father, Ralph Raastad of St. Cloud, Fla.; mother and stepfather, Norma and Richard Borst of Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers, Norman Raastad of Gray, Tenn., Richard ( Robin) Borst Jr. of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and sisters, Cindy (Bernie) Kupris of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Wendy (Jeff) Prentice of Knoxville, Tenn. Extended family include uncles Tom (Monica) Jensen of Norwich, Paul (Stella) Jensen of Edmeston, and aunt Ann (Jim) Faulkner of South New Berlin.
Services were held at James McKee Funeral Home, 14538 Tamiami Trail, North Port, Fla., officiated by James McKee.
Louise E. Robinson
ELLENVILLE — Louise E. DeMoise Robinson of Ellenville died Friday, March 18, 2005. She was 73.

James A. Maginnis
WORCESTER — James A. Maginnis Jr., 67, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2005, at his home with his family by his side.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Jaxie S. Greene
NORTH PORT, Fla. — Jaxie Sewell Greene, 72, of North Port, Fla., passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005.
She was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Boston, Mass., and moved to Florida in 1982 from Mount Upton.
Mrs. Greene was a retired secretary of the Machinist Union in Sidney. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3803 in North Port, American Legion Auxiliary in Sidney, and lifetime member of the DAV Auxiliary and the Kentucky Colonels.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Gordon of 29 Palms, Calif.; son, Russell S. Luce III of Guilford; stepson, William Greene; grandchildren, Andria Finch, Brian Luce and Matthew Gordon; niece, Marsha Evans of Whitinsville, Mass.; nephew, Richard Dodge Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Greene requested there be no services.

Arrangements were handled by the National Cremation Society of Venice.
Chantry G. Gerowe
ONEONTA — Chantry G. Gerowe, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 19, 2005, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta with his family by his side.
He was born April 14, 1918, in Kortright, the son of Lillian (Grant) Gerowe, who predeceased him.
Chan married Irene Sloan on Sept. 7, 1939, in Oneonta. She predeceased him Sept. 20, 2000.
He was a United States Army Air Force veteran, serving in World War II, and was a member of the Laurens American Legion Post 1688. Chan was employed by Monser Brothers in Oneonta as the warehouse manager. After retirement, he worked as the groundskeeper at the Valley Stream Trailer Park.
He is survived by three children, David and his wife, Marilyn, Gerowe of Oneonta, Frederick and his wife, Jodie, Gerowe of Oneonta, and JoEtta and her husband, David, Cannistra of Binghamton; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Michelle, Nathan, Garth, Derek and Brian; two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Autumn; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta. The funeral service will start at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, officiating.
The interment will be at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a later date.
A special thank you is extended to the Unit 2 staff at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, the staff at the Dialysis Unit at Bassett Healthcare on River Street and especially Paula Morrell and Ruth Deemer from Hospice, for their loving care of Chan.
