Anita A. Eldred
WALTON — Anita A. Eldred of Walton, a lifelong Delaware County resident, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Delaware County Countryside Care Center. She was 72.
Mrs. Eldred was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Hamden to Carlton and Violet Irwin Miller.
She attended school in Delhi and graduated from Delaware Academy. Anita worked as a cook in several area establishments.
She will be remembered for her unique personality and her culinary achievements.
Mrs. Eldred is survived by her children, Pamela Brown of Raymond, N.H., and Virgil Conklin of Stamford; her brothers, James Miller of Hamden, William Miller of Ellenville, and Gary Miller of Grahamsville. She is also survived by five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and the father of her children, Jake Conklin of Bainbridge.
She was predeceased by two sons, Edmund and Allan Conklin.
At Mrs. Eldred’s request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at the Hamden Cemetery.

Bernard C. Strait
NORTH CAROLINA — Bernard C. Strait passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in North Carolina.
He was a devoted husband, honored father and loving grandfather.
Bernie is survived by his beloved wife, Marion, of 62 years; four children, Pam (Pete) Cherry, Cherie (Bill) Haley, Steve (Jane) Strait and Gary (Barb) Strait; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Bernie was a B-17 pilot in World War II. He will be sadly missed.
Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Arndt Funeral Home, 1118 Long Pond Road, south of Maiden Lane, Rochester. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Temple Hill Cemetery, Geneseo.
Bertrand Heath
EDGEWATER, Fla. — Bertrand B. Heath of Edgewater, Fla., died Dec. 9, 2004, at his home with his family at his side.
Bert was born Feb. 2, 1937, to Bertrand Heath Sr. and Lillian (Thompson) Heath in the town of Rockdale.
While attending Mount Upton High School, Bert (Stub) excelled at sports and enjoyed many close friendships.
In 1957, he married Dolores (Yager) Heath of Otego. Together, with their two sons, they resided in Otego. In 1983, they relocated to Jacksonville, Fla., where Bert was employed as a supervisor of production control for Unison Ind.
Bert was an avid outdoorsman and especially liked to hunt and fish. He was active in youth sports, coaching his sons’ Little League teams and refereeing high school football. Bert had a positive affect on the lives of many of the young athletes in the area and will be warmly remembered.
After retirement, Bert and Dolores moved to Edgewater where they spent the winter months. During summer months, they enjoyed camping at Copes Corners Camp and Park in Gilbertsville, where they entertained many lifelong friends and enjoyed meeting new friends who shared the fun of sitting around a campfire and exchanging stories. Bert always looked forward to the family gatherings in New York and spending time with close friends.
Bert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dolores; and two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Marlene Heath of Morris and John and Pam Heath of Powder Springs, Ga. He leaves four grandchildren, Amanda and Tiffany Heath of Morris and Ryan and Austin Heath of Powder Springs, Ga. Other survivors include his sister, Ona Yager of Laurens; brother, Dennis Heath and his wife, Susan, of Mount Upton; mother-in-law, Florence Yager of Otego; an aunt, Mildred Stevens of Oneonta; the extended Rowe family; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Heath family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Fox Oncology and Cancer Care Center in Oneonta and at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., who treated Bert during his long illness. A special thanks goes to the wonderful people with Hospice who supported the family so well during the last days of Bert’s life.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the Morris United Methodist Church.

Doris E. Dropp
DELHI — Family and friends of Doris Dropp of Summerville, S.C., formerly of Delhi, are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate her life and share remembrances at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi. The Rev. Bert More will officiate.
Doris was unexpectedly taken home to our Lord on Nov. 25, 2004.
She lived in Delhi for more than 60 years and will best be remembered as a kind, caring and fun-loving woman who dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, extended family and friends.
Following the service there will be a reception at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Delhi, where all can gather and remember Doris with thoughts and stories.

Alice Crawford
SIDNEY — Alice Crawford, 96, of Sidney passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born May 18, 1908, daughter of the late John and Lillian Cook Pierce Henderson in Masonville.
Alice married Lial Crawford. He predeceased her in 1956.
She was a teacher, but was employed as a machinist by E.C.D. of Bendix when she retired.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Mullineaux, Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Kay Crawford, Egan, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by a son, Theron "Tommy" Crawford; special friend, Ernest Kinch; and son-in-law, Bruce Mullineaux.
According to Alice’s wishes, there will be no services.
Please light a candle in her memory.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center.

Margaret Meinke
WALTON — Margaret C. Meinke, 97, a longtime Walton resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Dec. 15, 2004, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi, where she had been a resident since August 2000.
The daughter of James and Nora (Brennan) Costello, she was born July 17, 1907, in Shessuagh, County Mayo, Ireland. She came to New York City when she was a young woman, where she met and later married John Meinke on April 19, 1947. He died Sept. 3, 1966.
A homemaker, Margaret and her husband owned and operated the family dairy farm on East Brook, Walton (1948-1966), subsequently moving to the village, where she lived for more than 20 years until declining health.
A devout Roman Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church; active in Catholic Daughters of America; St. John’s Altar Rosary Society; and served many years as a lay minister of the Eucharist.
Surviving are a son, John G. Meinke of Oftersheim, Germany; a daughter, Annemarie M. Nichols of Delhi; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at her late residence, 5 Maple St., Walton, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Church. The Rev. Fr. Michael Flannery, pastor, and the Rev. Msgr. Roger J. Brady, her nephew, of Boston, Mass., will preside, and final commendation and burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to St. John the Baptist Church, Walton, will be appreciated.

Bruce Mullineaux
SIDNEY — Bruce Lynn Mullineaux, 59, of Sidney passed away unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
He was born Aug. 30, 1945, son of the late Lloyd and Sarah (Ferguson) Mullineaux in Walton.
Bruce served his country in the United States Army from 1965-1967. He was a past employee of Keith Clark in Sidney.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Crawford) Mullineaux, Sidney; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bruce and Mary Mullineaux, Sidney, Jason and Salli Mullineaux, Sidney, and Brett Mullineaux, Washington; one daughter, Brinda Tolley, Sidney; six grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters.
He is also predeceased by a brother and a sister.
According to Bruce’s wishes, there will be no services.

Geralyn Jo Page
DUBLIN, Ohio — Geralyn Jo (Studlack) Page, 43, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Geralyn is survived by her husband, Charles Jr.; her daughter, Tiffany Page; her sons, Charles III, Christopher and Brendan of Dublin; her mother, Geraldine Kerry-Cunningham; brothers, George (Michelle) Studlack and Ken (Donna) Studlack; sister, Kristina Kerry, all of Malone; in-laws, Charles Sr. and Yvonne Page, Julia (Larry) Althiser, Aurore (Chris) Perrine, all of Mount Vision, and Yvonne (Art) Lyons, Maine; brother-in-law, Perry (Jennifer) Page, Boston, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Studlack Jr.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tidd Funeral Home, with Crematory, 5256 Norwich St., Hilliard, where a prayer service will follow at 8 p.m.
Lura D. Foster
PORTLANDVILLE — Lura D. (Rappleyea) Foster, 71, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at her home.
She was born April 20, 1933, in Portlandville, the daughter of Fenton Amos and Florence Baker (Swart) Rappleyea.
Lura graduated from Milford Central School, class of 1951. She also attended the State University College of Technology at Delhi.
She married Raymond George Foster Jr. on Feb. 6, 1953, at the Lily Lake Farm in Portlandville.
Lura is survived by five daughters and their husbands, Joanne J. and Jack Neilson, Patsy R. and Alan Levine, Anita M. and Bob Tomazin, and Annette M. Foster and Leah L. Foster, all of Portlandville; two granddaughters, Kimberly A. and her husband, Andrew, Frazier of Cohoes and Ashley R. Levine of Portlandville; a grandson, Joshua P. Levine of Portlandville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Raymond, on Oct. 14, 1982, and a daughter, Shana R. Foster, on Sept. 29, 1969.
Lura was a member of the Portlandville United Methodist Church, Eastern Milk Producers and Genex, and the Goodyear Lake Grange No. 1509 before it disbanded.
According to Lura’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will take place in the Milford Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Robert McCandlish
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Robert McCandlish, beloved husband, father and friend, was called home by the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004.
Bob, born Dec. 12, 1938, was a native of Delhi and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1956. He attended Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, where he met his dear wife of 43 years, Joan.
Through his life, he was a man of many careers, accomplishments and kind acts. Upon completing his degree in mathematics and physical education, he returned to Delaware County where he served as a New York state trooper, teacher, coach and bus driver. He received his master’s degree in educational counseling at the State University College at Oneonta.
He was a guidance counselor at Delaware Academy for 30 years, where he was revered by all his students. He maintained an active role in law enforcement throughout his life as Delaware County Special Deputy Sheriff and was instrumental in establishing the Delaware County and Otsego County Police Training Academy, as well as the Delaware County STOP-DWI program. He was a lifetime volunteer firefighter and fire prevention instructor and served as mayor, village trustee, village justice and town councilman in Delhi. He preached at the Cooperstown Church of Christ and was a member of Karns Church of Christ.
He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife, Joan; dog, Prancer; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Don Payne of Sackets Harbor, Candace and Tom Sample of Sandusky, Ohio, Crystal and Jim Boucher of Tupper Lake, and Carmel and Scott Beatty of Knoxville, Tenn.; two beautiful sisters, Mary King of Oneonta and Lois Gilchrist of Scranton, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; one niece and one nephew, and many people whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be planned in West Delhi in the spring of 2005.
Mary Stankiewicz
ONEONTA — Mary Stankiewicz, 93, of St. James’ Manor, Oneonta, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Dec. 17, 2004. She passed away peacefully at the A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a devoted friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was born on Oct. 12, 1911, in Montreal, Quebec, the daughter of John and Helen (Stankiewicz) Chahanovich. She had lived in Rochester, N.H., for 60 years before moving to Oneonta in 2001. She was a member and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Oneonta.
Mary graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield, Vt., in 1930 and from the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in Colchester, Vt., in 1934. She worked in Exeter, N.H., as a nurse, then moved to Rochester, N.H. She dedicated 49 years of her life to nursing. The "sarge" spent the last 28 years of her career as a medical/surgical nurse at Frisbee Memorial Hospital in Rochester, retiring in 1983 at the young age of 72. She then did volunteer work at the hospital for another 17 years before finally retiring and moving to Oneonta to be with family.
Surviving family members include her son John and wife Janice of Oneonta; her granddaughter Jill and husband Tom King of Otego; a granddaughter by marriage, Margaret and James Wikoff and family of Laurens; a great-granddaughter, Emily Wolek and great-grandson Kobey John King of Otego; two sisters, Julia Olney of Springfield, Vt., and Albina Sawicki of Southold, Long Island; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bolish, in 2000; a sister, Josephine Parmenter of Brattleboro, Vt.; and four brothers, Fr. Charles of Englewood, Fla., Walter Chahanovich of Poughkeepsie, Edward Chahanovich of North Carolina, and Stanley Chahanovich of Woodstock, Conn. She was also predeceased by two beloved grandsons, John Kenneth and Bruce Stankiewicz.
In celebration of Mary’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary’s Church, Rochester, N.H., at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Friends are invited to gather at the Grondin Funeral Home, 177 N. Main St., Rochester, N.H., on Monday, Dec. 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at which times the family will be in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to Frisbie Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.H., c/o surgical ward.

Muriel Jarvis
OTEGO — Muriel "Myra" Jarvis, 94, of Otego and formerly of Jamesburg, N.J., passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at her residence.
She was born in Jersey City, N.J., on March 18, 1910, the daughter of Frank and Charlotte (Buck) Berberick. She married Robert C. Jarvis in 1925 in Baltimore, Md., and he passed away Nov. 16, 1971.
Mrs. Jarvis was a Broadway dancer known professionally as "Myra Buck." Her career highlights included appearances with the Billy Rose Dancers, the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, repeated appearances in George White’s Scandals and Florenz Ziegfeld’s Follies. She also appeared with the Marx Brothers in their stage productions of "Cocoanuts" and "Animal Crackers" and in the musical "Roberta" where she met her husband, director and actor Robert "Bobby" Jarvis (deceased).
The mother of actress Patience Jarvis (deceased), she is survived by her grandchildren, musician Doug Howard and actress Amanda Naughton (m. Funicello), along with her great-grandchildren Zane, Charlotte and Hunter Howard, and Sophia Funiciello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Steven Moore, associate pastor, officiating.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Mary’s Church or the Catskill Area Hospice.

Michael Barlow
COOPERSTOWN — Mr. Michael Barlow, 86, of Cooperstown died Friday evening, Dec. 17, 2004, at Otsego Manor.
Michael was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Hobart, the son of George and Helen (Jordan) Barlow.
Raised in Hobart, Michael graduated from Hobart High School, and then went on to attend Trinity Preparatory School in New York City. Upon his graduation from Trinity, he attended the University of Vermont and graduated from there with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics.
On Nov. 27, 1940, he entered the United States Army Air Force and served as an aerial gunner during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal on Nov. 17, 1945.
Michael’s first employment was as a sales manager for the Ralston-Purina Company, based in Oneonta. He later became involved with dairy farming and owned and operated a dairy farm near Milford until retiring in 1974.
On May 17, 1980, Michael married June Bancroft Hotaling, and they made their home on Pioneer Street in Cooperstown. June died on June 1, 2004.
Michael was a member of the Mohican Club and the Clark F. Simmons American Legion Post No. 579 in Cooperstown. Raised in the Episcopal faith, he was a former member of Christ Church in Cooperstown.
An avid golfer, he at one time was a subscriber at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.
Michael is survived by his son, Michael R. Barlow of Cazenovia; two daughters, Patricia Barlow and Sally Barlow of Oneonta; four grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Christopher and Elizabeth; one great-grandson, Michael; two sisters, Mary Lamport and her husband, Frank, of Hobart, and Dorothy Smith of New York state; and several nieces and nephews.
The Office of the Burial of the Dead will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Samuel B. Abbott, rector of Christ Church, Cooperstown, officiating.
The Service of Committal and burial will take place at a later date in the Locust Hill Cemetery in Hobart.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Bishop Grimes Junior-Senior High School, the Field of Dreams Fund, 6653 Kirkville Road, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
