Florence Oblinski

EAST MEREDITH — Florence R. Oblinski, 94, of East Meredith, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born on March 22, 1909, in Krakow, Wis., the daughter of Martin and Pelogia (Kostecki) Milewski.

She married Joseph J. Oblinski on Jan. 22, 1929, in the Church of the Most Precious Blood in South Kortright. Mr. Oblinski predeceased her on Sept. 13, 1988.

For a period of 25 years, retiring several years ago, Mrs. Oblinski worked as a finisher for the Oneonta Dress Company.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford.

She is survived by her children, Frances Fullington of Franklin, Delphine and her husband, Mario Cocchetto, of Norwich, Dorothy Bagnardi of Hollywood, Fla., Alice Oblinski of East Meredith, and Bette and her husband, Ronald Marino, of Oneonta.

She will be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren, Donald and Daniel Fullington, Lori and Margo Cocchetto, James and Robert Bagnardi, Holly Smith, Bernadette Evans, Joseph and Ronald Marino Jr., and Jason and Kari Oblinski; and her 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Oblinski; two sons-in-law, Francis Bagnardi and Richard Fullington, and five brothers and four sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends are invited to call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 at which time the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bloomville Emergency Squad or Sacred Heart Church, Stamford.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Corinne Peterson

WORCESTER, Mass. — Corinne L. (Lee) Peterson, 72, of Worcester, Mass., died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at home.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda W. Peterson of Worcester, Mass., and a stepbrother, Thomas E. Hickey of Oneonta, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Peterson and a son, Lee C. Peterson.

She was born in Oneonta, daughter of Francis A. and Gladys (Platner) Lee.

Her grandfather, Harry W. Lee, founded the Oneonta Star in 1890, succeeded by his son, Francis A. Lee. The paper was sold to Ottaway in 1944.

Mrs. Peterson graduated from Smith College. She was a member of the Smith Club, Junior League of Worcester and the Worcester Garden Club.

For many years she was a docent at the Worcester Art Museum.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the First Unitarian Church in Worcester, Mass.

Burial will be private. There will be no calling hours.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Worcester Art Museum, 55 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.

Evelyn M. Wyckoff

GRAND GORGE — Evelyn M. Wyckoff, 87, of Grand Gorge, died July 20, 2003, at the Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born July 16, 1916, in Gilboa, the daughter of Rufus Smedes and Mary McAuillif.

She married Wesley A. Wyckoff on Sept. 17, 1955, in Prattsville. He died May 4, 1996.

She graduated from Grand Gorge Central School in 1934.

As a young girl, she was a waitress in Sidney, and assisted her mother in an ice cream shop and restaurant in Grand Gorge. She lived in Halcott Center, and in 1960, she moved back to Grand Gorge.

From 1965 to 1990, she was a bookkeeper and income tax consultant.

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed bowling and also, the slot machines at Foxwood Casino.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Gorge.

Evelyn is survived by one son, Wayne, and daughter-in-law, Vicky Wyckoff, Grand Gorge; one stepson, Charles Wyckoff, Delaware; one stepdaughter, Betty Teed, Morris; one granddaughter, Mary Evelyn Wyckoff, Grand Gorge; five stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at the funeral home in Roxbury. Burial will be in Manor Kill Cemetery in Manor Kill.

Contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or Grand Gorge Rescue Squad, Grand Gorge.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

Charles Dickenson

ONEONTA — Charles L. Dickenson, 80 years old, of 2 Mitchell St., Oneonta, and formerly of Edmeston, passed away July 21, 2003, in Sidney.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1923, in Burlington Flats, the son of Louis and Nellie (Tuller) Dickenson.

He married Helen VanVranken on Jan. 27, 1961, in Montrose, Pa. She survives.

He was an avid fisherman who loved the out of doors and gardening.

He was a machine operator at Remington Arms in Ilion.

Mr. Dickenson served in Germany during World War II under General George Patton.

He was a lifetime member of the Mohawk Crowley-Barnum Legion Post No. 25, where he was also a past commander, and a past commander of Otsego County and the Edmeston Post 1311.

Mr. Dickenson is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bob Helps of Scotland; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Debra Bailey of West Winfield; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Phyllis Dickenson, West Winfield.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Leslie Dickenson; five brothers, Earl, Frank, Lyman, Louis and Clyde Dickenson; and six sisters, Louella Dickenson, Vivian Crewell, Susan Jacobs, Lucinda Frazier, Emma Marriott and Blanch Crossman.

There will be no services, at the request of Mr. Dickenson.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Wallace Richard Klinger

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Wallace Richard Klinger, 97, of State College, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Foxdale Village in State College.

Born Dec. 6, 1905, in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Richard E. and Wilhelmina Gustafson Klinger.

On Jan. 26, 1929, he married Brunhilde I. Wolf, who died on Jan. 3, 1998.

He grew up on a farm near Kane, Pa., where he attended rural elementary school and Kane High School.

After two years of working in glass factories, he entered Gettysburg College where he was a member of the track team for four years and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa Society.

He taught in secondary schools and coached baseball in suburban Philadelphia, while he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1944, he was a member of the Office of War Information and was stationed in London and Paris. He was assigned to the Psychological Warfare Team, part of the SHAEF mission to the Netherlands stationed at The Hague. He received his commission as Major AUS in 1949, and was promoted to Lt. Col. in 1956. He was later transferred to the retired reserve in 1961. While in the reserve, he was assigned from time to time to several units including the 414th military government company and temporary duty at First Army Headquarters in Fort Drum.

He was a member of the faculty and administrative staff at Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y., from 1945 until his retirement in 1975. He was secretary/treasurer of the Middle States Association of College Deans for several years. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons, Royal Arch Masons, and American Legion Post 259, all in Oneonta.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Richard Paul of Newville, Pa., and Sigrid and Bernard Bensen of Binghamton, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He retired to Foxdale Village, State College, Pa., in 1991. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills, Pa.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, West Pine Grove Road, Pine Grove Mills, Pa., with the Rev. Steven C. Claycomb officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brunhilde I. Klinger Endowment in support of women's athletics at Hartwick College, One Hartwick Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820-4020, or to Memorial Endowment of Atonement Lutheran Church, 1 Center St., Oneonta, NY 13820, or to the Community Fund at Foxdale Village, 500 E. Marylyn Ave., State College, PA 16801.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Koch Funeral Home, State College, Pa.

Albert P. Yourno

HARTWICK — Albert P. "Pat" Yourno, 87, of Oaks Creek Stock Farm on State Highway No. 28, entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, July 21, 2003, in Little Falls Hospital of complications from a hip fracture and surgery.

Pat was born on April 22, 1916, at the family homestead on Yourno Road in West Winfield, son of the late Joseph and Carmella Sassone Yourno. He was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters.

After graduating from West Winfield High School in 1935, Pat began dairy farming near Monticello. In 1945, he then bought his current farm two and one half miles south of Schuyler Lake.

On Nov. 20, 1948, he married Anne Phillips in Herkimer. Together as partners they continued the dairy operation, along with his cattle dealing business, until just a few years ago. Pat was also well-known in the area for supplying Christmas trees to local customers for over 50 years.

A truly self-made man, Pat was very involved and respected in community activities. He was a member of the Richfield Springs School Board from 1976 to 1989, and had served as Board President for several years. A Richfield Springs Rotary Club member and past president, he took pride in his 27 years of perfect attendance.

In 1985, Pat was elected a town justice of the Town of Otsego and served in that capacity until the time of his passing. He was a member of both the New York State and Otsego County Magistrates Association. He was also active in the Fly Creek Historical Society. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.

Pat is survived by his dear wife of 54 years, Anne; his beloved son, James of Hartwick; his cherished daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and John Breen of Lake Luzerne, Ann Marie and William Lewicki of Otego; one sister, Rose Coppola of Utica; a devoted nephew, Vito Yourno and his wife, Beverly of Sauquoit; along with many other nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents; Pat was preceded in death by five sisters, Genevieve, Mary, Anna, Antoinette and Eva; and five brothers, Victor, John, George, Joseph and Michael.

Pat will be remembered by all who knew him for his great honesty and integrity, his kind and generous spirit, his good nature and his enjoyment of life, his work, his home and his family. We were blessed to have him as our husband and papa.

Pat had a strong belief in God and was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church, Cooperstown, where his funeral will be held on Thursday morning at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Douglas C. Smith, Rector officiating. Following the service Mr. Yourno will be laid to rest in Fly Creek Cemetery.

The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in the name of Albert P. Yourno to the Richfield Springs Central School District Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 361, Richfield Springs, NY 13439. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Eva M. Hanson

FRANKLIN — Eva M. Hanson, 91, passed away July 21, 2003, at the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta.

She was born May 23, 1912, the daughter of John and Susie (Scott) Hartwell in Walton. At 6 years old, her family moved to Franklin, where she lived 80 years.

Eva was married to Orville H. Hanson on Oct. 23, 1934. They lived on a farm (Gilbert Farm) for 50 years. He predeceased her on Jan. 26, 1987.

She was a member of the Congregational-Baptist Church, now the Community Bible Church, in Franklin for 73 years. She was a former member of the Onesiphorai Reading Club and Franklin Craft Club. She was also member of the Eastern Stars for over 50 years.

Eva attended DLI now Franklin Central School. She loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed crocheting and making nylon net scrubbers plus cooking and baking.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Frederica and Robert Du Martier, Cary, N.C., Ruthann and George Benedict, Syracuse, Birdeen and Mary Ellen Hanson, Stony Point, and Alice and Arnold Teachout, Omaha, Neb. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Lloyd and Bernard Hartwell; and a sister, Belva Palmer.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin, with the Rev. Arnold Teachout, her son-in-law, officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends may call on Friday, July 25, after 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, she has requested donations be made to the Gene H. Ward Scholarship, Franklin Central School, Franklin, NY 13775.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Adolph Peter Buzzy

ONEONTA — Adolph Peter Buzzy, 83, of Oneonta, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born on July 20, 1920, in Cohoes, the son of Peter and Wictoria (Mudry) Buzalewicz.

He married Dorothy M. Sheldon in 1949, in Bainbridge.

Mr. Buzzy retired as Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Oneonta in 1981, and previously held the position of City Marshall for several years.

He was a resident of Oneonta for the past 50 years, and was a member of the Oneonta Lodge F.&A.M.

Mr. Buzzy is survived by two sons, Jerry Buzzy and Neal Buzzy, both of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Ted Tranvaag of Bainbridge; three sisters, Adella Langelotti of Athens, Pa., Irene Pawelchak of Troy, and Nancy Pawelchak of Albany; nine grandchildren, Duane Buzzy of Oneonta, Stacey Paden of Sidney, Shannon Baxter of Otego, Lincoln Tranvaag of Sidney, Selena Tranvaag of Sidney, Sabrina Tranvaag of Afton, Sonja Tranvaag of Bainbridge, Brett Buzzy of Oneonta, and Stephanie Buzzy of Florida; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Pawelchak.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home in Oneonta.

Pauline I. Barkman

MANORKILL — Pauline I. Barkman, 91, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill.

She was born April 20, 1912, at Dunraven, the daughter of M. Cleveland and Birdall (Pearsall) Faulkner.

Pauline graduated from Gilboa-Conesville Central School in 1935, and worked as a seamstress for many years in sewing factories in Kingston.

She will be remembered by her daughter, Janet and son-in-law, Edwin Brainerd of Prattsville; son, Wayne and daughter-in-law, Gayle of Blaine, Tenn.; her sisters, Marjorie Ackerley of Manorkill, and Vera Cook of Preston Hollow; one brother, Carl Faulkner of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Also, surviving are 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pauline was predeceased by three brothers, Elwood, Louis and Clayton Faulkner; one sister, Margaret Miller; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, on Thursday, July 24, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 25, 2003, at noon, with the Rev. Waylen Bray officiating. Internment will follow the services at the Manorkill Rural Cemetery in Manorkill.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Ethel Rosenbaum

ONEONTA — Ethel Rosenbaum, 90, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully at her residence Tuesday, July 22, 2003.

Ethel was born Dec. 20, 1912, in New York City.

She is survived by her sons, Allen, Sheldon and Richard; her daughter-in-law, Joan; and her grandchildren, Tarra and Joshua.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Wellwood Cemetery on Long Island on Wednesday, July 23, 2003.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Dorothy McShane Quaif

SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Dorothy McShane Quaif, 79, of Route 20, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, July 20, 2003, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born on April 30, 1924, in Troy, a daughter of the late Walter and Hazel Malder McShane.

She was raised and educated in Troy, where she graduated from high school. She continued her education, graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in education.

In 1948, she married Fred Quaif in Springfield Center. Dorothy and her family have lived in this area for over 20 years.

She was an avid follower of History and current events and a lifelong believer in peace.

Surviving are her devoted husband of 55 years, Fred; three sons, Roger Quaif of Dryden, Steven Quaif and Robert Quaif, both of Westmorland; a daughter, Trudy Quaif of Delmar; two grandsons, Kevin and Andrew Holmes, both of Delmar.

Funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the East Springfield Center Emergency Response Team, P.O. Box 358, Springfield Center, NY 13468.
