Ruth F. Holling
SCHENEVUS — Ruth F. Holling, 66, passed away Friday, June 13, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born June 22, 1936, in Manhattan, the daughter of Arnold and Marion (Dragoo) Hanson.
Mrs. Holling was a U.S. Air Force veteran. She was employed at Astrocom in Oneonta for more than 10 years and was a member of the Schenevus United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Ritchey, of Schenevus; three daughters, Debora Holling of Utica, Linda and her husband, William, Spencer of Schenectady, and Janet and her husband, Michael, Spencer of Quinton, N.J.; her mother, Marion Hanson of Schenevus; three grandchildren, Billy Spencer, Maxwell and Savanna Spencer; brothers, Russell Hanson of Wells Bridge and Victor Hanson of Schenevus; a sister, Carol Dufresne of Schenevus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, William T. Holling, in 1967; and her father, Arnold Hanson, in 1976.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 16, with the family in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Snyder, pastor of the Schenevus United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Isabella M.L. Super
ELKINS, W.Va. — A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Isabella M.L. Super, who died on Oct. 23, 2002, in Elkins, W.Va., will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, in St. Mary's Church in Oneonta. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.
Mrs. Super was born in New Brunswick, N.J., on July 2, 1919, the daughter of the late DeForest and Isabella (Gordon) Weller.
On April 4, 1941, she was married to Frank Super. He survives. Mrs. Super and her husband lived in West Winfield, N.Y., and Clayville, N.Y. for a period of time and recently moved to Elkins, to be near their son, Joe.
She attended school in Schenevus, retired as a secretary from the Gerald Smith Insurance Agency and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Her hobbies included reading, crafts, golf and spending time with her family and friends.
Her survivors include her husband, Frank Super, of Elkins, W.Va.; her children, Kathy Harding of Somerset, Colo., Isabella Super and Barbara Super Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; her son, Joe Super of Elkins, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Joanne Forman of Marietta, Ohio, and Glen Super of Oneonta.
Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.
Luella Van Vranken
OTEGO — Graveside committal service for Luella G. Van Vranken of Otego, who died Feb. 7, 2003, will be on Friday, June 20, at 2 p.m. at Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Randy Palada, officiating.
Immediately following the service the family will have a reception to greet friends at Bill's Park in Gilbertsville.

Alice P. Gordon
ALBANY — A memorial service will be held for Alice P. Gordon at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Temple B'Nai Sholom, 420 Whitehall Road, Albany.
Alice passed away May 1, 2003, in Sarasota, Fla. She was a former resident of Oneonta and Albany.
Katherine E. MacArthur
DAVENPORT — Graveside services for Katherine E. MacArthur, who passed away Feb. 14, 2003, will be on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the North Kortright Presbyterian Church in North Kortright, which is part of Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.
Following the services there will be a reception in the church fellowship hall.

Michael W. Lisa
ONEONTA — Beloved husband, father, son, and servant of God and country, Michael W. Lisa, YNC, USN (Ret.), was called home by God on Monday, June 16, 2003. He was in the company of his wife and children when he crossed over.
Michael, the son of Italian immigrants was born in Hoboken, N.J., on Jan. 8, 1921.
He attended St. Michael's High School, Union City. Following his graduation from St. Michael's, he was accepted into study for the priesthood at St. Michael's Mission School, Conesus.
His studies were interrupted, when, answering the call of his country, he enlisted in the United States Navy in April 1943. During the war he served in various naval bases on the East Coast, and then onboard the USS West Point, a troop transport. His ship made numerous transits of the Atlantic, hauling invasion forces to North Africa, Italy and France.
He attained the coveted rank Chief Petty Officer. Following the war he continued to faithfully serve his country, assigned to the Third Naval District where he was in the crew of the destroyer escort USS Rizzi (DE 537). He was next assigned to the electronic warfare training ship USS E-LSM 445, where he was responsible for the Administration Department.
Following that tour of duty, he was assigned to Patrol Squadron Twenty-Four in Port Lyautey, French Morocco. His next assignment was to the Naval Air Station, in Brunswick, Maine. His next assignment was to Camp Smith, Hawaii, on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Fleet, where he worked as the flag writer for Admiral Harry D. Felt. He completed 23 years of honorable service as the Chief Recruiter, U.S. Navy Recruiting Station, Albany.
His awards included: World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal, European-Africa Area Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (seven awards), the Naval Reserve Medal, and numerous letters of commendation from all of his duty stations.
He met his future wife and best-friend, Marie Bodette in Vergennes, Vt. They fell in love and were married in Saint Bernadette's Catholic Church, Bridport, Vt., on Oct. 25, 1952. Following his retirement from the Navy, Mike and Marie settled in Oneonta.
He worked as the Personnel Director at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital for seven years, and then he became the first full-time City Clerk in Oneonta. During his tenure as City Clerk, he made numerous upgrades and improvements in the efficiency of City Administration. He pursued continuing education at the University College of Syracuse University, becoming a Certified Municipal Clerk in the late 1970s. At the time, he was only the 15th person in New York to hold this distinction.
Mike and Marie lived for 34 years at 10 Grand St., where they raised four children, Timothy, Mark, Charles and Julie.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, West Addison, Vt.
The family requests that gifts in his memory, and in lieu of flowers, be made to Saint Mary's School, Oneonta.
Andrew C. Colvin
BLOOMVILLE — Andrew C. Colvin, 77, of Bloomville, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 19, 1925, in Westford, the son of the late Oscar and Neva (Pickard) Foutch. His adopted parents are Frank and Anna Colvin, Oneonta.
Mr. Colvin attended Oneonta schools and joined the Air Force in 1943, where he served touring India and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Andy worked for D & H Railroad in Oneonta from 1946 to 1950, and was employed at NYSEG from 1950 until his retirement in 1986. He worked in the Stamford area as line foreman.
He is survived by his wife, Waltraut (Trudy) Hitt Colvin, at home; a sister, Joan Marie Henry and husband, Gilbert of Candor; three brothers, William Higgens and his wife, Marjorie of Oneonta, Harold Foutch and his wife, Harriet of North Carolina, and Oscar Foutch and his wife, Kay of North Carolina; and an aunt, Cora Hillsinger of Oneonta. Also his family, James and Donna Hitt of Stamford, Fred Hitt of Sidney, Kathy and Darryl Sparkes of Stamford; grandchildren, Kevin Hitt of Grand Gorge, Jennifer Hitt of Salem, Va., Joshua and Cory Sparkes of Stamford; and many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Robert and Gerald Foutch; and an aunt, Marcia Pearsal, predeceased him.
Andy will be remembered for his love of life, family and friends; his uncanny sense of humor; the quality time he spent with his grandchildren, and his cocker spaniel, Chelsey.
Memorial services will take place on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 5 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with the Very Rev. Paul J. Hartt, Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Hobart, officiating. Preceding the service there will be calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Committal will follow the service at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Bloomville Emergency Squad.
Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
Patricia A. Denison
STAMFORD — Patricia A. Denison, 62, died suddenly Sunday, June 15, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She is survived by her two sons, Wayne Loucks of North Carolina, and Gordon Loucks of Stamford; her daughter, Diana Loucks of Stamford; her former husband, Earl Loucks of Hobart; her two sisters, Janet Russell of Florida, and Fran Mac Blaine of New Berlin; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her sister, Katherine Moore, predeceased her in 2002.
Services will be private at a later date.
Donations may be made in Patricia's memory to the Stamford Fire Department.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.
Richard Gravelding
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Richard Gravelding "Rick," 65, of East James Street entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, June 16, 2003, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1938, in Cooperstown, son of the late Francis and Eleanor Armstrong Gravelding.
A lifelong Richfield Springs resident he graduated from Richfield Springs High School.
On Sept. 14, 1957, he married Alice Smagalski in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.
For 43 years he was a familiar face in the Richfield Springs business community, owning and operating Rick's Clothing Store on West Main Street. He retired in 2000.
He was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, a lifetime member of Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department with over 35 years of service, a member of the First Aid Squad, a member and past treasurer of the Richfield Springs Chamber of Commerce and at one time had served as a Village Trustee.
In his leisure time Rick liked to go fishing and was an avid golfer.
Rick was happiest when be was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his five grandchildren. He was a respected individual and will be truly missed.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Alice; one son, John and his wife, Laurie Gravelding of Clinton; two daughters, Licia and her husband, David Ronan of Herkimer, and Susan Gardner of Richfield Springs; a brother, Philip and his wife, Mary Gravelding of Owego; one sister, Carol Chamberlain of Fort Plain; five grandchildren, Sara and Michael Ronan, Christopher and Jamie Gravelding, Amanda Gardner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs.
A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs. Sister Patricia Woolheater will officiate.
Those who wish may make expressions of sympathy to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department, the Catskill Area Hospice of the American Leukemia Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Gloria A. LaTourette
GRAND GORGE — Gloria Anna LaTourette died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the Hawarden Hospital, Hawarden, Iowa. She was 80.
Gloria was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Grand Gorge, to Peter and Pearl Du Bois Magro.
She worked at the U. S. Defense plant in Oneonta during World War II.
She married Nelson Reed LaTourette on Dec. 24, 1947, they made their home in Grand Gorge. He predeceased her on June 19, 1957.
Gloria was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Grand Gorge Fireman's Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Bresee of Oneonta and Sharon Gibbs of Brunswick, Maine; her son, Peter of Vermillion, S.D.; and a sister, Gertrude Davis of Cortland. She is also survived by six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Family members who died earlier include her brother, Joseph Magro and sisters, Esther Polli and Phyllis Beers.
There will be a memorial service at the Grand Gorge Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, with the Rev. Bob Nash officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery Grand Gorge.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Grand Gorge Fire Department in her name would be appreciated.
Susanne Taylor
AMBLER, Pa. — Susanne Taylor, 58, born in Oneonta, N.Y., and raised in Otego, N.Y., passed away on June 17, 2003, in her home, Ambler, Pa.
She is survived by her partner, Dene Harris; her mother, Gladys Lawrence; three siblings; six children, Mary Margaret Bruni, William Monser, Melissa Monser, Susan Monser, Katherine Monser and Thomas Francis Monser; 12 grandchildren.
Susanne will long be remembered for her integrity, strength, humor and her infectious smile.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Emil J. Ciavarelli Family Funeral Homes, 951 E. Butler Pk., Ambler, PA. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service at the funeral home.

Dominic 'Larry' Zupevec
ONEONTA — Dominic "Larry" Zupevec, 84, of Oneonta passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Burlington, the son of Anton and Mary (Orish) Zupevec.
Larry served in the United States Army during World War II.
He worked for Spaulding's Bakery as a driver as well as a parking attendant for Wilber National Bank for many years, until his retirement in 1981.
Larry enjoyed bowling, dancing and bus trips to Atlantic City.
He is survived by longtime companion, Emmeline Sinniger, of Oneonta; his daughter, Onnolee Decker and her husband, Arthur of Kerhonkson; a sister, Mrs. Douglas (Frances) Wayman, Hartwick; his grandchildren, Colleen McGinnis, Peter Carey, and Shaun Carey; one great-grandchild, Katrina Carey.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Kate, Anne, Mary, Veronica and Elizabeth; also his brothers, Frank and Henry Zupevec.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judy Thistle, A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, the staff at Lincare, and to all of those who provided around the clock care for Larry.

Arthur C. Bacon
ANDES — Arthur C. (Archie) Bacon, 69, of Andes died at his home on June 17, 2003.
Archie was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Margaretville, the son of Arthur C. Bacon Sr. and Constance Smith.
He married Gloria E. Pardee on June 25, 1954.
An Andes resident for most of his life, Archie was member of the Laborers International Union of North America Local 17 for 47 years, retiring in 1992.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Mary Frieda Bacon of Andes; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Joseph Pierce of Waddington, Linda and Ernest Salo of Bondville, Vt., JoAnn and Clifford Holmes of Andes, Pam and Clint Peterson of Andes, and Penny and George Harageones of DeLancey; brother, Edward of Roscoe; and a sister, Jane Berghammer of Andes. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes on Thursday, where the family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. in Shavertown Cemetery with Fr. Jason Catania, Rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Lake Delaware, officiating.

Christopher Stephen Holstead
SIDNEY — Christopher Stephen Holstead, 42, of Sidney passed away Thursday, June 5, 2003, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born Dec. 19, 1960, in Mineola, the son of Roland and Muriel (Wilson) Holstead.
Prior to living in Sidney, the last seven years, he was employed as an engineer for Allied Cable Co. of Springfield, Mass.
Christopher is survived by his daughter, Jessica Marie Holstead of Beaverton, Ore.; his mother and stepfather, Muriel and Peter Dix of Sidney; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Lorraine Holstead of Richardson, Texas, and Dr. Roland and Sharyn Holstead of Springfield, Mass.; his sisters, Murielann Holstead-Baldo and Roger Moore of Oneonta, and Deborah Flanagan of Unadilla; a stepsister, Karen Steele of Dexter, N.M.; his nieces and nephews, Lisa and Dean Monti, Cathy and Wayne Siegler, Janet Holstead and fiancee Kevin, Anne and Andrew Santanello, and Joseph and Nina Holstead; also several grandnieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends; two close nephews, Robert Baldo and Gregory C. Flanagan; and his favorite companion, his dog, Kadee.
He was predeceased by his father, Roland Holstead.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2003, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Unadilla, with the Rev. Joel T. Grigg, Rector, officiating.
