Marilyn M. Grasso
LAURENS — Marilyn M. Grasso, 64, of Laurens died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, after a brief illness at her residence.
She was born April 29, 1939, in Oneonta, the daughter of Elmer and Lydia (Shepard) McLaud.
She married Pasquale J. Grasso on Aug. 18, 1962, at St. Mary's Church in Oneonta.
Mrs. Grasso was the office manager and medical assistant for Dr. Rowley in her earlier years and most recently for Dr. Hopper, both in Oneonta.
She was a lifelong area resident.
Marilyn was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. She was one of the original Laurens Emergency Squad, a Hospice volunteer, a former member of the Red Cross Board of Directors, and in her earlier years was active with the Boy and Girl Scouts.
She was an avid reader, a nature lover and an athletic enthusiast for the Laurens Central School.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Pasquale, at home; one son, Michael Grasso and Coleen Young of San Francisco, Calif.; one daughter, Margaret and John Falardeau, and their daughter, Lydia Rose of Arlington, Va.; three sisters, Harriett Greismer, Sylvia and her husband, Gerald Bouton, and Joyce and her husband, Jim Broe, all of Oneonta; three brothers, Maurice and his wife, Carolyn McLaud of Unadilla, Morton and his wife, Dorothy McLaud of Schenectady, and David and his wife, Barbara McLaud of Central Valley; a sister-in-law, Joan McLaud of Norwich; a sister-in-law, Madelyn and her husband, Bruno Damioli of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; brother-in-law, Larry and Gerry Grasso of Troy; mother-in-law, Rose Grasso of Schenectady; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Douglas McLaud.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch officiating, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.
The family will also be receiving friends at the Laurens Central School cafeteria immediately following the Mass on Saturday.
Contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta or Laurens Emergency Squad.

Roger Sheckells Sr.
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Mr. Roger Dan Sheckells Sr., 81, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
He was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of Richard Thompson and Agnes (M.) (Wilcoxson) Sheckells.
On March 4, 1945, he married Sarah Ellen Dyckman in Peekskill. She survives.
He attended school in Oklahoma City, and received an honorary diploma at Springfield Central School.
He entered the United States Army in December 1942. He served on the U.S. Hospital Ship, the Algonquin and made 22 trips across the Atlantic and Mediterranean to bring wounded back to the U.S. He was awarded the following medals: four Bronze Service Stars for the Naples-Foggia Campaign, Southern France Campaign, Italian Campaign, German Campaign, a Good Conduct Medal, The American Theatre Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Tech 5 in November 1945.
He worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Peekskill, and was a self-employed mason. He was the administrator of the Springfield Adult Home until his retirement.
He was a devoted husband and father.
Besides his wife of 59 years, Sarah Ellen Sheckells; he is survived by a son, Warren Charles and his wife, Linda Sheckells of Springfield Center, a son, Roger Dan Sheckells Jr. of Glendale, Calif.; a daughter, Ellen Kay Sheckells Effler and her husband, Jimmy of DeMoine, Iowa; grandchildren, Richard Vernon Sheckells and his wife, Karen of Rome, Debra Lyn Sheckells of Glendale, Calif., Victor Daniel Sheckells of DeMoine, Tiffany Rose Anderson of DeMoine; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Graig, and Derek Smith of Rome, Gabe Sheckells of Glendale; a sister, Betty Jo Lewis and her husband, Vern of Hemet, Calif.; several nieces and nephews in Peekskill and Washington.
There will be no public calling hours.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
Bronislawa Gluszek
OTEGO — Bronislawa Gluszek, 87, died Friday, June 13, 2003, in A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born April 1, 1916, in Pniewo, Poland, the daughter of Mikolaj and Helena Szymanski Sepczynski.
She moved to the United States in 1965 after her first husband, Stefan Mocarski, died in 1964 in Poland. On Feb. 16, 1966, she married Walter Gluszek in Otego and they farmed together until Walter's death in 1984.
Bronislawa worked very hard to make sure that her children were able to receive a higher education. She loved working on the farm and gardening. She also loved music and dancing and visiting with her friends. Having lived through the extreme hard times of WWII in Poland, she enjoyed the time for quiet walks here.
Bronislawa was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Oneonta.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Krystyna and Henryk Jaworski of Poland and Vera and Lester Stachura of Otego; daughter-in-law Regina Mocarski of Highland Lakes, N.J.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Barnes of Phoenix, Ariz., Lester Stachura of Gilroy, Calif., Walter Jaworski of Unadilla, Bogadan Jaworski of Poland and Marzena Gaura of Highland Lakes, N.J. and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, two husbands, brothers and sisters and son, Jerzy Mocarski.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with the rosary being said at 7 p.m. at Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego, during which time the family will be present.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.
Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Gluszek's honor to the Otego Emergency Squad.

Marian `Pat' Gilbert
ROCKDALE — Marian "Pat" Litts Gilbert of Rockdale joined her beloved husband in the presence of our Lord on Thursday, June 12, 2003.
Born on Oct. 30, 1917, to Edward and Elmina Jane Wescott Litts of Susquehanna, Pa., she had been on this Earth 85 years at the time of her passing at the Sidney Hospital Nursing Home.
A quite, sweet-spirited woman with a wry sense of humor, Pat deeply loved and was devoted to her family and friends. She joyfully had "room at the inn" and a "place at her table" for all. Active in the church and local community, Pat was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
She and her husband of than 60 years, Harold Gilbert, were married on Aug. 30, 1941. He preceded her into the next life on April 28, 2002. Pat is also predeceased by her sister, Edna Reinhard, and brother, Milton Litz.
In addition to a rich legacy of love and support to her family and friends, Pat has blessed the world with five children, Genevieve and Tom Lindemann of Marcellus, Ronald and Bonnie Gilbert of Unadilla, Bonita and John Kunzman of Endicott, Debra and Gary Hamby of Orlando, Fla., and Harold and Barbara Litz of Warsaw; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert Litts and Floyd Litz.
While the assurance of her place with God is a great comfort, her steady perseverance, ready song and tender love will be missed by all.
Friends may call Monday, June 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Sidney, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the First Presbyterian Church in Unadilla, N.Y. The Rev. Allen Presby will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge, N.Y.

Harriet Lindley
MONTPELIER, Vt. — Harriet Jane Nesbitt Lindley, daughter of the late J. Clark and Emma Munson Nesbitt of Oneonta, N.Y., died Thursday, June 12, 2003, in Alexandria, Va.
She and her husband of nearly 60 years were visiting their daughter in Virginia when she became ill in May.
Harriet was born in Schenevus, N.Y., on June 24, 1921, and married John Marshall Lindley Jr. at the Yale Chapel on Oct. 9, 1943.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, John Marshall Lindley III, Clark Nesbitt Lindley and Harriet Jane Lindley Kratovil and her sister, Marjorie Nesbitt Herschleb of Queensbury, N.Y. Her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, of whom she was exceedingly proud, also survive her.
Harriet was a graduate of Bradford Junior College, The New England Conservatory of Music and Katherine Gibbs School of Boston. Following World War II, she moved with her husband to Springfield, Vt., where she was very active in the local hospital auxiliary the long-time choir director of the First Congregational Church. In 1956, to benefit the Springfield Hospital, she and her friends founded the Apple Blossom Ball that continues to be enjoyed by local high school students and parents today.
After 21 years in Springfield, she and her husband moved to Concordville, Pa., for three years and then returned to Vermont in 1970, settling in Montpelier, where she continued her hospital auxiliary work and taught music at Montpelier High School.
During her life she served on many boards including Vermont Public, Radio, New England Hospital Auxiliary, Springfield Hospital Auxiliary and Central Vermont Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Medical Center, P.O. Box 547, Barre, VT 05641 and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library, c/o Hilari Farrington, 135 Main St., Montpelier, VT 05602.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Terry Bodiot
WALTON — Terry Bodiot, 63, of Walton, died early Friday morning, June 13, 2003, in Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, after a short illness.
Mr. Bodiot was born on June 13, 1940, in Walton, the son of Hugh and Ramona Davidson Bodiot. Mr. Bodiot married Beatrice Bush on March 26, 1977, at Walton. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He was a truck driver, employed by Fahs-Rolston of Binghamton. He was also a member of the Club Royale Oasis, Walton.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Bush; two sons, Mike and Debbie Furman and Dan and Gail Furman, both of Walton; three special grandchildren, Robbie, Jay and Gina Furman; two brothers, Dick and Martha Bodiot of Jacksonville, Fla., Hugh and Marge Bodiot of Middletown, Calif.; three sisters, Sheila and Dick Buchanan of Walton, Faye and Ski Szczepczynski of Walton and Maxine Stillwell of Jacksonville, Fla.
He was predeceased by a sister, Bonnie Roe.
Friends may call Sunday, June 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. William Robertson, pastor of the Plymouth Community Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Georgia Russell
SCHENEVUS — A graveside memorial service for Georgia Russell, who died Dec. 2, 2002, will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Schenevus Cemetery, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, officiating.
Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
Grace W. Warner
CARY, N.C. — Mrs. Grace W. Warner, 87, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on May 20, 1916, in Haines, N.Y., to Earl and Lina White.
Mrs. Warner was a resident of Oneonta, N.Y., for 60 years before moving to Cary to be with her daughter and her family.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and caregiver, having taken care of her husband and parents until their deaths. She was a riveter during WWII and was affectionately called Gracie the Riveter. She loved to cook and to sew and enjoyed her role as a homemaker.
Her immediate family called her "Amazing Grace" because of her positive attitude, sense of humor, and ability to overcome adversities. She knew the value of laughter and a good martini. To know Grace was to love her.
Mrs. Warner is survived by her son, Russell Warner and his wife, Elizabeth, of Equinunk, Pa.; her daughter, Carol Burdick, and her husband, Jeffrey, of Morrisville, N.C.; her sister-in-law, Doris White of Norwich, N.Y.; her grandchildren, who adored her, Daniel Gula of Cary, N.C., Michael Gula and wife Audrey of Carrollton, Texas, Daniel Warner and wife Farah of State College, Pa., and Nathaniel Warner of Annapolis, Md., several nieces, nephews and one cousin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Robert Warner, in 1972 and her sister and two brothers.
The family received friends Monday evening.
A graveside service and interment will be held at Floral Park Cemetery in Johnson City, N.Y.

Elsie Mae Spooner
WEST EDMESTON — Elsie Mae Spooner, 82, of West Edmeston went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at MIB in Cooperstown.
She was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Plainfield, the daughter of Homer T. and Margaret (Jones) Williams.
She married Henry I. Spooner on Jan. 7, 1939. He predeceased her on June 27, 1990.
Elsie was a member of the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church, and previously had been a member of the West Edmeston Baptist Church for many years. From 3 years old she began her ministry as a vocalist, traveling to many of the area churches, including Cassville, West Exeter, Exeter and Exeter Center.
Elsie's most favorite day of the week was Sunday, when she would spend time in prayer with her church family. Besides singing she had a love for witnessing for the Lord. In her later years she made two trips to Israel, and one to England and Wales.
Elsie is survived by her children and their spouses, Christine and Donald Taylor of Maple Shade, N.J., Rita and Earl Goodrich of Oneonta, Janet and Bob Anderson of Oneonta, the Rev. Mark and Pat Spooner of Edmeston, Ross Dean and Kerri Spooner of West Edmeston, and Lori and Jeff Guido of LaPlate, Md.; 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church, with Pastor Charles Fitch officiating.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, June 16, 2003, at the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church.
Interment will be at Unadilla Forks Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in Elsie's memory to either the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church Building Fund or the Catskill Area Hospice.
Rosemary Fitzgerald
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Rosemary Fitzgerald, 73, departed this world the morning of June 14, 2003.
Born Nov. 5, 1929, in New Berlin, N.Y., she grew up in Edmeston, N.Y., where she graduated as valedictorian of her high school. Crouse Hinds, the Department of the Navy, as well as Travelers Insurance, employed her.
She is survived by a son, Robert Fitzgerald of Concord, N.C.; one daughter, Mary Clodfelter and her husband, Robert, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Roger and Carroll Blackman; and a cousin, Susannah Yatman.
Rosemary passed away after a brief stay at the Paul Sticht Center within the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at the Edmeston Union Cemetery in Edmeston.
