Don Landauer
Don Landauer passed away April 21, 2006, in Hawaii. The only bit of solace his wife and family have is that when his heart stopped, he was sitting on the lanai of his condo on the island of Kauai, looking out over the view he loved: the harbor, the mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
Born in 1927 in Oakland, Calif., Don served on the battleship IOWA in World War II and was a Navy man all his life. He and Lyndall Baker married in 1948 and had four sons. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and later received an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles. He worked as an engineer, owned an electronic business and taught engineering and business at the college level at Los Angeles City College. He lived with his family in Pasadena, Calif., for 35 years and the entire family sailed off the coast of Southern California for years. On retirement, Don and his wife moved to South Lake Tahoe where they lived for 20 years. Don was active in the Lake Tahoe Historical Society - in fact he constructed many of the display cases inside the Lake Tahoe Historical Museum as well as designing and constructing the porch on the Log Cabin that sits behind the museum.
In the 1990s he was tapped to teach business classes for the US Navy aboard Navy ships. He often said that he had served aboard more different ships than most admirals. He sailed around the world several times, and saw more of the world than most people do.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lyndall Landauer; sons, Christopher, Timothy and Douglas; daughters-in-law Deborah, Jorja and Mary Beth; and grandchildren, Nikolas, Shaughn, Kellie, Matthew, Robby and Benjamin. There will be no service. He rests near the Pacific Ocean he loved.
