Gary A. Merrill

Gary A. Merrill passed away peacefully at his home after a long and extended illness on July 12, 2007.

He was born March 13, 1941. Gary served his country in the U.S. Navy for 8 years. He was a firefighter for the city of Pocatello, Idaho and managed the Elk Creek Ranch Lodge in Island Park, Idaho for many years.

Gary loved his God and family very much. He also loved to fish and was a great cook. He resided in Pahrump for the past 16 years with his loving wife VeAnn. Gary will be dearly missed by all.

His wife VeAnn Merrill; son Rod (Karla) Merrill and their children, Garrett and Ashley of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter Rhonda (Rich) Lewis and their children, Faith and Isaiah, of Blackfoot, Idaho; and his loving brother Dale (Michelle) Merrill of St. George, Utah survive him.

His mother Florence Elizabeth Savage Merrill; his father Archie L. Merrill; brother Kenneth Maynard; and sister Billy Maynard Dance preceded him in death.

There will be no services at Gary's request. (07/12/07)

Fred Cooper

Private services will be held for Fred Cooper, 81, who died June 23, 2007, at Nathan Adelson Hospice.

He was born March 29, 1926, in Texas. He was a 15-year resident of southern Nevada.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1948. He later retired from Weyerhauser Co. in North Bend, Ore.

His children Steve Stavros Codekas of Oregon and Lenora Rollingson of Costa Rica; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren survive him.

Hope there's whiskey and Copenhagen in Heaven. (06/23/07).

Eva Sochia

Services are pending in Pennsylvania for Eva B. Sochia, 71, who died June 30, 2007, at Desert Regional Center Hospital.

She was born May 9, 1936, in New Castle, Pa. She was a resident of Evergreen Rehab for 10 years, coming from Newcastle, Pa.

She retired in 1997.

Her sisters Florence Haney and Dorothy Hovis, both of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews survive her.

Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death. (06/30/07)

Omer Snowden

Services for Omer F. Snowden, who died July 2, 2007 in Pahrump will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pahrump Community Church.

He was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Covington, Ky. He was a resident of Pahrump for 20 years, coming from Arizona.

Snowden was a fireman captain at the Nevada Test Site, and a member of the VFW. He was an Air Force veteran and served in Korea from 1952 to 1956.

His wife Jean of Pahrump; daughter Cindy (Gaylon) Baker; sons Jim (Lynn), Dan (Mechell) of Pahrump; stepson Dan (Fe) Ehle of Californai; sister Virginia Simpson of Nevada and brother, Jack Snowden of Florida survive him.

His parents and a sister preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Make A Wish Foundation.

Thomas Birdwell

Services for Thomas William Birdwell, 65, who died July 4, 2007 will be held July 14 at 2 p.m. at Choice Hills Baptist church in Pahrump.

He was born April 21, 1942, in California and was a resident of Pahrump for nine years. He served in the Navy for three years and was an auto mechanic by trade. He retired in 1995. He was also a member of the Wild West Gun Club.

His fiance, Linda Allman; daughter, Tracy Sulprizio; brother, Addie Birdwell; sister, Shirley Birdwell; nephew, Addie (Lee) Birdwell Jr.; five step siblings and one grandchild, Dani survive him.

His parents and one sister preceded him in death.

James Wright

Services are pending for James Dean Wright,. 51, who died July 3, 2007, in Pahrump.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1956. He was a resident of Nevada for three and a half years coming from California.

He was a truck driver employed with the sanitation company.

His son, Bryan King; daughter, Christine Mora; mother, Florence Jolby and sister, Catheline Wright survive him.

His wife Sue and father preceded him in death. (07/03/07)

Leroy Cox

Services for Leroy Cox Sr., 84, who died July 3, 2007, in Pahrump, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at 6200 S. Eastern in Las Vegas.

He was born in 1922 in Red Bay, Ala. He moved to Pahrump in 1995 and loved it here.

Leroy served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a diesel mechanic.

He is survived by children Marilyn, Peggy, Butch, Kathie, Richard, Sandi, Leroy Jr., Gail and Vickie; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He will be very missed, but family and friends look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. (07/03/07)

David Gray

A memorial service for David M. Gray of Amargosa Valley, who died Jan. 21, 2007, at U.M.C., Las Vegas due to complications of bladder cancer surgery, will be announced at a later date.

Born Jan. 5, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tenn., David grew up in Las Vegas, attending Western High School. For the past 20 years, he resided in Death Valley Junction, Pahrump, and Amargosa Valley.

David worked for many years at the Amargosa Hotel and Opera House, and for the past several years, at Franklin Lake Mining Co. in Amargosa.

His wife of 27 years, Teresa Ann Gray; daughter Laura J. Gray of Furnace Creek; son Edward (Kelli) A. Gray of Tucson, Ariz.; brother John D. Gray of Moreland, Ga.; granddaughters Lexia, Kaelyn and Shelby Gray, all of Tucson; nephew Jonathan Gray of Georgia; aunts Sandi Wangsness and Joyce Nolte of Reno; Lynn DeLille of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; numerous cousins and many, many dear friends survive him.

His mother, Lora Rice Novak; stepfather Edward Novak; father J.D. Gray of Pisgah, Ala.; grandparents John and Stella Rice of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and his beloved dog Lucky preceded him in death.

The family would like to thank all the many friends who stood by David and helped care for him during this very trying time. Howard, Dewayne, John, Todd, Roger, Karen, Josh, Adrienne, all of you who helped and loved him. A special thanks to Uncle Ed.

Ronald Parks

Ronald James Parks, 64, of Pahrump, died Jan. 16, 2007, after a brief illness.

He was a longtime resident of Pahrump, coming here over 30 years ago.

His daughter Tammy Parks of Indiana; brother Tim Jones of Houston, Texas; and sister Sally Moyer of Ocala, Fla., survive him.

Mr. Parks will be laid to rest at Bunker's Mortuary. (01/16/07)

Ronald Ayers

A memorial service for Ronald L. Ayers, 71, who died Dec. 30, 2006, in Las Vegas, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Terrible's Lakeside.

He was born Sept. 15, 1935, in San Diego, Calif. He was a three-year resident of Pahrump.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He later retired from Northrup Aero.

His brother Charles N. Ayers of Santee, Calif.; and sisters Clara Murphy and Mary Julian of Spring Valley, Calif., survive him.

Tiffany Langston

A memorial service for Tiffany Mary Langston, 23, who died Jan. 2, 2007, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, on Wilson and West Roads.

Bishop Garth Oakey of the Homestead Ward will conduct the service, with several family members contributing highlights and interesting experiences they shared in Tiffany Mary's unique life.

All are invited to join her family and friends as they bid farewell to one very special young lady. (01/02/07)

Terrance Mackenzie

A memorial service for Terrance G. Mackenzie, 38, who died Jan. 22, 2007, in Pahrump, will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Pahrump Family Mortuary.

He was born March 18, 1968, in Bath, Maine. He was a two-year resident of Pahrump, coming from Idaho.

He served in the U.S. Air Force. He later worked as a dental lab technician at Desert View Dental in Pahrump.

He was a member of the Masons.

His father Thomas Mackenzie of Pahrump; brother Timothy Mackenzie of Florida; sisters Tina Jacovino and Traci Sochan, both of Connecticut; aunt and uncle Greg and Jacy Haynes of Colorado; and many friends and loved ones survive him.

His mother, grandfather and grandmother preceded him in death. (01/22/07)

Walter J. Hoppe, D.O.

Private family services will be held for Dr. Walter J. Hoppe, 67, who passed away Dec. 21 in Lansing, Mich.

Dr. Hoppe practiced medicine in Pahrump for several years and served our community and his patients as a friend and healer. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home of E. Lansing, Mich. handled the arrangements. (12/21/2007)

Samuel Marion Carey

Samuel Marion Carey, 81, passed away from an extended illness on July 23, 2007, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho while visiting his children.

Sam was born December 13, 1925, in Commerce, Okla., to Samuel W. and Artie Elizabeth (Dodson) Carey. Upon graduating from high school in Nevada, he was drafted into the Navy at the age of 18, and served during World War II in the Pacific. After his discharge, he returned to Nevada to become a hard rock miner which he continued until his retirement.

While visiting friends in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, he met and married Evalie Harper. From that marriage they had seven children. Jeanne Carey King of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Linda Carey Gilliand of Amargosa Valley, Mike of Rigby, Idaho, Sam and Steve of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Mark of Athol, Idaho and Beth Carey Ford of Moses Lake, Wash. Sam and Evalie later divorced. They have 38 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren. He then married Maxine Dotty and helped raise her children, Maxine Brunow, Pete Brunow, Fred Brunow, Jimmie Haven and Tammy Haven. They were later divorced.

Sam then married Patricia Miller who had four daughters; Patsy, Peggy, Geneva and Carol. They resided in Pahrump and later, Amargosa Valley. Pat preceded Sam in death. In 1997, Sam married his current wife Diane Thomas, who has four children; Carl, Lauri, David and Kathleen. Sam and Diane resided in Amargosa Valley.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Carey Gondolfo, two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Sam is survived by his wife Diane Carey and sister Joyce Yelland of Round Mountain.

Sam loved to share his stories and joy of mining and prospecting and loved to fish and hunt. He was a very intelligent man who kept up on current affairs and in particular, politics. He was a life member of Forest Hanson VFW Post #6826, and Jack Fisher Post #26, of the American Legion in Amargosa Valley.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Aug. 18, at the VFW post in Amargosa Valley. Burial will be in Manchester cemetery, Manchester, Mont. (07/23/07)

Dixie Mae Brimble

Dixie Mae Brimble, 61, passed away August 11, 2007 in Las Vegas.

She was born April 12, 1946 and resided in Pahrump for 12 years. She was a teacher and a member of Heritage Bible Church.

Her husband, David Brimble of Pahrump; son, Lance Brimble of Tennessee; four sisters and two brothers survive her.

Parents and one sister preceded her in death.

Services are held within the heart.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Heritage Bible Church of Pahrump. (08/11/07)

Ella Mae Relford

Ella Mae (Epperson) Relford, 67, passed away August 11, 2007 at Tender Loving Care in Henderson.

She was born August 29, 1939 in Gardiner, Mont. She was retired but worked many years for Janda Ribbons.

When Ella Mae married Bill Davis, she moved to Beatty and resided there for 40 years. She was widowed when he passed away. She then married Ernie Relford.

Her brother, James Epperson of Everett, Wash., sisters, Maudin Wohlbrandt-Douglas of Boulder City, and Shirley McLaran of Estes Park, Colo., and numerous nieces and nephews survive her.

Her parents preceded her in death.

No services are scheduled. (08/11/07)

Sandra Lee Allman

Sandra Lee Allman passed away June 27, 2007.

Sandy was a 10 year resident of Pahrump and dedicated her life to rescuing animals in need. She was involved with several animal rescue organizations and was on of the creators of the original "Pet Adoption" on Channel 41.

Her brothers; Robert Waechter of Lenexa, Kan., Ronald Driscoll of Apple Valley, Calif., sister-in-law; Peggy Driscoll of Apple Valley, Calif., sister; Amber Driscoll of Valencia, Calif. and eight nieces and nephews survive her.

Sandy was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Aug. 25, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 650 S. Blagg Road. (06/27/07)

Francis Propps

Francis Propps, 70 passed away August 9, 2007 in Las Vegas.

She was born February 22, 1937 in Camas, Wash., was of the Christian faith and resided in Pahrump for 20 years.

Her daughters; Cheryl Propps of Pahrump, Deanna Oliveaux of Washington, Brenda Kaashock of Canada; son, Johnny Propps of California; sisters, Alice Wisenhunt and Rosemary Ross both of Pahrump, and April Hendrick of Missouri; brother, David Braniff; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive her.

Her parents, one brother and one sister preceded her in death.

Visitation was held Aug. 14, at Pahrump Family Mortuary. Burial will be in Boulder City at a later date. (08/09/07)
