Laura Novak
On Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 6 a.m., my very dear friend of 10 years passed away. Lori had been in the hospice program for well over a year and when her health took a turn for the worse, she had been taken to the Nathan Adelson Hospice Center on Swenson Street in Las Vegas. This was where she spent the last 2-and-a-half weeks of her life.
Her sons David and John; daughter-in-law Anne; granddaughter Laura; grandson Jonathan; and two of her sisters, Sandy and Joyce had all spent time with Lori while she was at the hospice center. I too was there with her on her journey of dying, as was another dear friend, Jack. It was a painful time for all of us; so many tears were shed as we watched her life fading away.
Lori, I will miss you as a very dear and close best friend. Your humor, your wonderful wealth of information on so many countless things, the many trips to town that we made each week for shopping and eating out and just "hanging out." Our scrabble games and the daily phone calls will be sorely missed. Friends like you are real treasures that don't come along often. I certainly never wanted to lose you, but your time on this earth came to its close and once again a tremendous loss of friendship has hit me. I feel as a single star on a dark night.
I love you, Lori, my friend. You are missed by so many others whose lives you have touched over the years, but as the best friend I ever had, you are especially missed by me. Thank you for being my friend.
I miss you, my dear friend. I love you always.
