He then proudly served his country during Vietnam as a U.S. Navy Seabee with the United States Navy Mobile Construction Battalion 9. After his military service, he went to work side-by-side with his father Ade to establish Marine Construction & Dredging Inc., a company which remains in operation.
Ken and his father shared a strong work ethic and passion for marine-related projects. He dedicated himself to improving the quality of life for his beloved Skagit County. Through Ken's dedicated efforts, engineering improvements were made in communities along the West Coast, from Alaska to Mexico, as well as Hawaii. Many dredging operations occurred in Northwest Washington State. He worked all around the globe, including Guam and the South Pacific. His most recent accomplishment was the creation and engineering of the Twin Bridges Marina in Mount Vernon, Wash., the realization of a 30-year dream.
During his time in the Pahrump Valley, he quickly became involved in his most recent endeavor as Senior Vice President and Director of the Nevada Operations for the newly formed Western Airlines. In addition to his love of aviation, he became a magnet for making new friends; his greatest joy was seeing his friends excel and achieve their greatest potential. He inspired several of those close to him to become pilots.
His wife Maria said, "Ken's life will not be counted in years, but by his achievements and for living his life with God's purpose as his goal. His true accomplishments are measured by the numerous people he influenced. His sense of humor, selfless generosity toward others, inspiration and loyalty have left us all with a challenge that we can only hope to achieve on our best of days. You have touched us Ken and you will be forever missed. He remains forever a dedicated husband, father and friend in our hearts."
