Mary Ann Hawk

Mary Ann Hawk, 61, of Taos passed away unexpectedly at home on March 09, 2007. Mary Ann devoted her life to helping others, as a teacher, school counselor, social worker and psycho therapist before retiring in 1998. The lives she touched are beyond counting. She is preceded in death by parents, Michael and Mary Sagnelli of Stamford Connecticut. Mary is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charles Hawk, brother, James Sagnelli of Stamford, brother in-law, Terry Hawk (Fran) of Walnut Creek CA, nephew, Matthew Hawk of San Francisco, CA and niece, Katie Shipley of Sacramento, CA along with other numerous relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on March 14, 2007. Funeral mass was held on March 15, 2007. Both services were held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Interment was held at Las Cruces cemetery.

Samuel Bates
Died March 9, 2007
Samuel Weaver Bates died peacefully at the age of 83 years on March 9, 2007 in Taos, New Mexico. He was born on January 25, 1924 in Shelbina, MO to Carrie Weaver Bates and Thomas Forest Bates. In 1941, Sam attended the University of Missouri where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. His education was interrupted during World War II where he served his country in the United States Marine Corps. While in the military, Sam attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif. where he met his future wife, Wilma Jean Wessels. In 1944 Sam and Wilma were married
at St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington, DC. Following his discharge from the Marine Corps, he completed his education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK.
He and his brother, Tom, founded Bates Bros., a specialty men's clothing company in December 1946. During the course of 41 years, Bates Bros. saw an expansion from two stores in Stillwater to additional stores in Enid and Ponca City, OK and Columbia, MO. Bates Bros. took pride in providing quality goods and service and customer loyalty.
Sam was highly regarded by his friends and peers because of his active community involvement. He served as Presidents of the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Kiwanis Club. He was Chairman of the Stillwater Industrial Foundation, and for 10 years, served as Chairman of the Stillwater Hospital Board. During his tenure in that position, the current Stillwater Medical Center was established. He was also an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where he served as Senior Warden and as a member of the Diocesan Bishop and Council.
In 1997, Sam and Wilma moved to Angel Fire, NM where they enjoyed the beauty of the Moreno Valley: snow skiing, golfing and the opportunity to entertain both friends and family in such a beautiful setting.
Sam was predeceased by both his parents and brother, Tom Bates, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of Angel Fire NM and two daughters: Linda Bates Stamm (Bill) of Tucson, AZ and Elaine Bates Brewster (John) of Houston, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Carrie Lawson (Aaron) of Scottsdale, AZ; Brian Jackson (Lisa) of Chicago, IL; John Edward Brewster, III of Houston, TX; and Samuel Bates Brewster of Dallas, TX.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at St. James Episcopal Church, Taos, NM. His interment will take place in Stillwater, OK at a later date.

Doris H. Taylor

Doris H. Taylor, 77, of Taos passed away on March 15, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Taylor, parents, Edward & Elizabeth Hagemann. She is survived by her sons, Craig L. Dunning of Boulder, CO and Jeffrey S. Dunning (Gloria) and grandson, Daniel J. Dunning of Los Alamos, sister, Ardelia Schulz of Downers Grover, IL, many nieces and nephews.
Janet Helen Palmer

Janet Helen Palmer, 89, of Angel Fire passed away on March 15, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Palmer, brother, William Himberg. She is survived by her children, Terrence Palmer of Albuquerque, Timothy Palmer (Catherine) of Missouri, Peggy Ann Stirling (Bob) of Angel Fire, Patrick Palmer of Seattle, WA, Daniel Palmer (Linda) of Redstone, CO and Holly Palmer (James Knight) of Sonora, CA, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held.
Jose Cornelio Tafoya

Jose Cornelio Tafoya, 82, of Penasco passed away on March 21, 2007. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Florida Tafoya, parents, Gregorio and Cleotilde Tafoya, brothers, Jose Pablo, Jose Inez and Jose Orlando Tafoya, sisters, Maria Cordova, Juanita Leyba and Margarita Vasquez. He is survived by his children, Susana Vigil (Cipriano), Doris Tafoya (Miguel Romero), Darlene Abeyta (Epifano), William Tafoya and Cleo Tafoya (Terry Murphy). He is also survived by his brother, David Tafoya (Merly), sister, Theresa Romero (Mario), grandchildren, Louie Tafoya (Michelle), Felicita Pinon (Alex), Cipriano Vigil Jr. (Kim), Cecile Gomez (Ronnie), Miguel Romero, Jr. (Rachael), Orlando Abeyta and Aileen Abeyta, 17 great grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and good friends.
Rosary was recited on March 21, 2007 at Rivera Chapel in Taos. A second rosary was held on March 22, 2007 at San Antonio Catholic Church in Penasco and funeral mass followed. Interment was held on March 23, 2007 at Santa Fe National cemetery.
Robert Mellinger Jr.
Died March 22, 2007
Robert Thomas Mellinger Jr., 58, passed away on March 22, 2007. He is survived by his only daughter, Harmony D'Angelo of Big Sur, CA. He was born to parents, Robert and Doris Mellinger, spent much of his young life in Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from Boulder, CO with a degree in Environmental Studies. While traveling the world he farmed in Big Sur, CA, was a harbor master in Maui, Hawaii, joined an artist community in Ashland, Oregon and was a fisherman in Anchorage, Alaska. A man full of love, creative energy, compassion and generosity. He built his home in the Tres Orejas community where he was surrounded with love and acceptance. He will be greatly missed.
Ascension Valerio

Ascension "Sennie" Valerio, 58, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on March 23, 2007. She is preceded in death by her father, Santiago Cardenas and sister, Terry Collins. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Michael Valerio, children, Michelle Archuleta (Lucas) and Michael Valerio Jr., mother, Corina Cardenas (Tomas Garcia), sisters and brothers, Rosie Rivera (Richard), Priscilla Cardenas, Jane Anderson (Brian), Moises Cardenas, Fernando Cardenas (Carlene), Miguel Cardenas, numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary was recited on March 26, 2007 at Rivera Chapel.
Maria Rascon

Maria Virginia Rascon, 58, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on March 24, 2007. She is preceded in death by her mother, Maria de la Luz Sias of Mexico and brother, Javier Rascon Sias. She is survived by her children, Octavio Rascon (Lorraine), Luis Rascon (Brenda), Luz H. Romero (Salvador), Javier Rascon, Cesar Rascon and Joel Rascon, father, Tsaras Rascon Munoz and numerous grandchildren.
Rosaries were recited on March 29, 2007 and on March 30, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral mass was held on March 31, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Interment followed at Las Cruces cemetery.
Andres Chavez
Died March 31, 2007
Andres Chavez, 85, life long resident of Canon passed away on March 31, 2007. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alicia Chavez, son, Andres Chavez Jr., daughter, Ida Chavez, parents, Pedro and Josefina Chavez. He is survived by his sons, Pedro Chavez (Esther), Antonio Chavez and Alonzo Chavez (Adrena). He is also survived by grandchildren, Anita, Destiny, April, Adrian and Diego and numerous relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on April 03, 2007. Funeral mass was held on April 04, 2007. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Abner Lucero

Abner Lucero, 40, of Talpa passed away on March 31, 2007. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Lucero and Augustina Valerio and brother, Luis Lucero. He is survived by his daughters, Genevieve Montoya, Luisa Griego, Vanessa Griego and Marie Ortega, life long partner, Marlene Griego, brothers and sisters, Gabriel Casias (Isabel), Carlos Casias (Sue), Clarence Valerio (Yolanda), Ivan Valerio (Carol), Sammy Lucero Jr. (Diana), Diana Gonzales (Clarence), Angela Adame (Ismael), Irene Tafoya (Nick), Dolores Archuleta, Rebecca, Ernesto, Patricio and Bonifacio Lucero, numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday, April 03, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral mass was held on April 04, 2007 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Interment will be held at a later date.

Eloisa Vigil, 82, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on March 31, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Felix Vigil, son, Michael Vigil, parents, Ambrocio and Dolores Abeyta, brothers, Elias and Antonio Abeyta, sisters, Domitilia Ortiz, Teodora Romero and Matilda Gomez. She is survived by her children, Fermin Vigil (Melly), Dolores Cardenas, Valentin Vigil (Martha), Josephine Vigil (Dennis), Louisa Glanze (Ron), Martha Vigil, Evelyn Vigil (Roy), Alice Martinez (Nelson) and Maggie Vigil (Armando), many grandchildren, sister, Rose Vigil, brother, Juan Abeyta and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited on April 02, 2007 at Rivera Chapel. Funeral mass was held on April 03, 2007 at San Francisco de Asis Church. Interment followed at Los Cordovas cemetery.
Ruben Vigil

Ruben Orlando Vigil, 89, of Taos left this earth a happy and well loved husband, father, grandfather and friend on April 03, 2007. Ruben served in Europe during World War II and was injured. He returned to New Mexico and received a B.A. He worked in the Taos Post Office for over twenty years, retiring as Postmaster in 1971. He was the commander of the Taos DAV Chapter for 50 years and a life long Kiwanian. Ruben's favorite activities were gardening and fishing. He is preceded in death by his sons, Orlando Vigil, Bert and Stanley Witka. He is survived by his wife, Crucita Vigil, daughters, Yolanda Vigil-Henderson (Mark) of Nevada, Katie Vigil of Denver, grandchildren, Dawn Otero, Stanley Ruben Witka, Crucita Clinton (Mark), Meredith Amy Viola (Anthony), Joshua Vigil Daniel, great grandchildren, Jaime, Rudee and Casey Otero, Eryn Witka, Vanessa and Maya Clinton, brother, Fred Montoya, sister, Stella Pena and numerous other relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on April 08, 2007. Funeral mass was held on April 09, 2007. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment was held at Santa Fe National cemetery.

Natalia Pockrandt, 66, forty year resident of Red River passed away on April 04, 2007. She was born and raised in Old Mesilla, NM. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roberto and Marcianna Sanchez, brother, Rudolfo Sanchez and sister, Margaret Barela. She is survived by her husband, Ron Pockrandt, children, Ronnie Pockrandt and Jennifer Vigil (Julio), grandchildren, Cruz, Raiden and Anthony Vigil and sister, Martha Klein (Sigi).
