Juan M. DeVargas

Juan M. DeVargas, 82, of Taos passed away on September 13, 2005. He was a world war two veteran from 1942 to 1945, serving as a cook and medic in the South Pacific. He was a meat cutter at the Plaza Supermarket for 22 years, ambulance director in the 1970's, school bus driver, self employed farmer and rancher and sold flagstone. He was very well known for his humor and his music. He was preceded in death by his wife Lena Gonzales, his daughter Anna DeVargas Garcia, his parents, Delfina and Perfecto DeVargas, his brothers, Abaleno Vargas, Tito DeVargas, Eduardo Devargas and Maria DeVargas Martinez. He is survived by his children, Victor DeVargas (Susan) of Albuquerque, Jane DeVargas of Albuquerque, Jesse DeVargas (Karen) of Taos, Theresa Salazar (Ernesto) of Ponderosa, Loretta Cisneros (Cris) of El Prado, Albert DeVargas of Taos, Joseph DeVargas of Texas, Elena Williams (Jimmy) of Taos, 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Lucy Carter of Santa Fe, Ross DeVargas (Fabiola) of California, Angie Suazo (Gilbert) of Santa Fe, Tina Schmid of California, Beatrice Medina (Johnny) of Taos, Pete DeVargas (Connie) of Santa Fe, Consuelo DeHerrera (Valdimar) of Costilla, Doloris Romero (Merlin) of Taos, and numerous nieces and nephews and god children.
Rosaries were recited on September 14, 2005 and September 15, 2005. A Funeral mass was held on, September 16, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis. Interment followed at the Pacheco cemetery.

Mary Adonila Sanchez-Lucero, was born April 16, 1927 in Ojo Sarco,of Taos, most recently of Albuquerque, passed away on September 14, 2005after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Julian & Magdalena (Tafoya) Sanchez; Step-mother Genara (Aragon) Sanchez; husband Lucas Lucero, sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Paul Martinez of Chamita; brother Jimmy Sanchez and three of her 13 children (Joe Ned, Mary Ann, Bobby Michael Lucero). She is survived by her long time companion, Meliton Montano; children, Mary P (Eliseo) Trujillo of Truchas, Albert (Fran) Lucero of Santa Fe, Stella (Glenn) Hokanson of Bernalillo, Lucas "Jr" Lucero, Eddie (Anna) Lucero, Jerry Lucero, Vincent Lucero, Jimmy Lucero, David (Anna) Lucero, and Phillip Lucero, all of Taos; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral mass was held September 17, 2005, at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Jose "Joey" Maestas, Jr.

Jose "Joey" Maestas, Jr., of Ranchos de Taos, passed away September 17, 2005. He is survived by his parents, Elias and Faby Maestas, sons Joey Maestas III and Daniel Maestas both of Hawaii, his sister, Bernadette Solivan, brother, Billy Walter Maestas and his uncle and aunt, Ed and Pam Quintana.
A Rosary was recited on September 21, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Taos. Mass was held on September 22, 2005 at San Francisco de Asis.
Alex Cruz

Alejandro "Alex" Cruz, 90, of El Prado passed away on September 20, 2005. He is survived by his children, Ruby Cruz Quintana (Jerry) and Yolanda Cruz Padilla (Stan), his grandchildren, Dennis Quintana (Sonja), Tricia Chamberlain (Kerry), Tim Quintana (Kim) and A. Clarence Padilla, great grandchildren, Hannah Quintana, Tristan Quintana, Mateo Quintana, Tuesday Chamberlain, Nicolas Quintana, Oona Quintana, Aja Quintana, Branden Quintana.
An evening prayer service was held onSeptember 23, 2005 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Taos. The funeral services were held on September 24, 2005 M at the 1st Presbyterian Church. There was a luncheon after the funeral services at the church, followed by interment of the urn at the Ranchos de Taos Presbyterian cemetery.
Popolo Quintana

Crisofora "Popolo" G. Quintana, 89, of Taos passed away on September 24, 2005. Popolo retired as a city planner from the city of Los Angeles and also from the Taos County Planning Department. He served in the Army during WWII, was a member of Compadre of the Eagles and was widely known as a "Good Guy". He is preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Eloisa Quintana, his brother, Edmundo Quintana, his sister, Stella Sisneros, sons, Ferdie and Steve Quintana, his daughter, Marlou Quintana and grandson, Estevan Quintana. He is survived by his wife, Ada, son, Dr. Paul Quintana (Lee) of Los Gatos, CA, his daughter-in-law Amy Quintana of Taos, his grandsons, Jake Quintana of Taos, Jason Quintana of Portland, OR , Larry Quintana, Shaune Quintana both of Seattle WA, granddaughter, Felize Thamert of Albuquerque, great grandsons, Jesse Quintana of Seattle, WA, Chaz Nettleton of Aspen, CO and Devon Dominquez of Albuquerque and numerous compradres, relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 7 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Taos. A public viewing will be on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 5 PM to 7 PM at the Rivera Chapel. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, followed by interment at the Sierra Vista cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Corina Alberta Suazo, 86, of Taos passed away on Sept, 24, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abiguel Suazo, son, Celso Suazo and brother, Willie Jaramillo. She is survived by her children, Teodorita Archuleta (Walter) of Monte Vista, CO, Julian Suazo (Emily) of Santa Fe, Olivia Padilla (George) of Los Lunas, Magdalena Romero (Blas) of Ranchos de Taos, Esmeralda Montoya (Pete) of Rio Rancho, Joe Suazo (Loretta) of Taos, Chris Suazo of Taos and Cheryl Suazo (Eddie) of Taos. She is also survived by her sisters , Frances Romero (Eugenio) of Mintern, CO, Dorothy Romero (Jimmy) of Llano Quemado, brother, Frank Romero (Alma) of OK, 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
A Rosary was recited on September 25, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The Funeral Mass was held September 26, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment followed the mass at the Pilar cemetery. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Julia Medina Gonzales, 81 a long time resident of El Prado passed away on September 29, 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Patricio Gonzales, her children, Rita Gonzales, Louis Gonzales and Charlie Gonzales, her sister, Polly Montoya, brothers-in-law, Lolo Montoya and George Chavez and sister-in-law, Mage Gonzales. She is survived by her children, Arthur Gonzales (Olivia), Patricia Gonzales, her grandchildren, Michelle Gonzales, Angela Gomez (Carl), Janis Gonzales (Joe) and Roberto Trujillo, her great grandchildren, Elijah Martinez, Jazlyn Gonzales, Sierra Martinez, Jared Gonzales, her sister, Cleo Cisneros (Chris), brother, Joe Medina (Julia), brothers-in-law Frank Gonzales, Manual Gonzales (Tere) and Ted Gonzales, sisters-in-law Adelina Gonzales and Mela Chavez, numerous nephews, nieces and many close friends.
A rosary will be recited Sunday, October 02, 2005 at 7 PM at Our Lady of the Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taos. A mass will be held Monday, October 03, 2005 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment will follow at the Doloris cemetery.

Natividad Lucero, 79, of Amalia passed away September 29, 2005. She is preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Maria de la Luz Maestas and her husband, Malaquis Lucero. She is survived by her children, Rita Rivera (Eleuto), Louie Lucero (Gloria), Barbara Molina all of Amalia, Pauline Vargas (Leroy) of Taos and Mike Lucero of Amalia. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren.
Rosary was recited September 30, 2005 at 7PM at Santa Nino Catholic Church in Amalia. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 10 AM at Santa Nino. Interment will follow at the Amalia cemetery.

Fidencio Quintana, 56, of Taos passed away on October 01, 2005. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Amadeo and Amalia Quintana and his sister, Carmen Maestas. He is survived by his children, Becky Quintana, Isaac Quintana, Jamie Quintana, his sisters and brothers, Ermelinda Garcia (Jose), Sylvia Garcia, Lee Quintana (Tina), Gloria Cardenas (Nick), Lorraine Suazo (Charlie) Patricia Pacheco (Louie), Thomas Quintana (Mary Ann), Jeanette Fritch (Steve), Jesus Quintana that he raised from an infant, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Leonides Pacheco

Leonides Pacheco, 97, passed away on October 1, 2005. He was an avid fisherman and loved gardening. He graduated from Penasco Catholic School and attended Highlands University. He taught school in Penasco, served 2 terms as County School Superintendent, worked in the Taos Post Office and worked for the Bureau of Land Management. After WWII he worked for the Welfare School (now New Mexico Health and Social Services) as a social worker and director. He also worked for Crippled Children Services in Albuquerque. He retired after 50 years with the government, 35 spent working with the public. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maclovia R. Romero Pacheco, sons, Moises and Manuel Leonides Pacheco, parents, Moises and Sofia Pacheco, sisters, Cleotilde Trujillo of Rio Lucio, Lydia Martinez of Denver, Adelaida Trujillo, brothers, Alejandro Pacheco, Ismael Pacheco, Octaviano Pacheco all of Rio Lucio. He is survived by his children, Bertha Pacheco of Taos, Joe Pacheco of Pueblo, CO, Joniva Cardenas of Taos, Carlida Montoya of Utah, Eddie Cardenas of Taos, Manny Pacheco of Rio Lucio and Frances Montoya (Jerry) of Denver, sister, Sinforosa Joseph of Rio Lucio, 29 grand children, 58 great grand children, and 35 great great grand children.
A prayer meeting was held on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Rivera Chapel. His funeral was held on October 5, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Taos. Interment followed at the Pacheco cemetery in Rio Lucio. Arrangements by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

Anna Schneider died October 3, 2005. She was born February 12, 1918 near Munich, Germany. She lived many years in Taos. She is survived by her sons, Werner Duettra and Joseph Duettra, Werner's three sons, Andy, Michael and Peter, Joseph's son, Jeremy, 4 great grandchildren and her younger sister Martha Scheyco from Wisconsin. Maria J. Gonzales, 93, of Penasco passed away on October 4, 2005. She is preceded in death by her son Ernesto Gonzales and husband Ramon Jose Gonzales. She is survived by her children, Ramon O. Gonzales, Loyde Gonzales, Lee Gonzales, Edward Gonzales, Sadie Williams, Rosie Flores, her brother, Porfirio Barela and sisters, Feioniz Arguella and Teresa Barela.
There was a visitation on October 8, 2005 at Rivera Chapel followed by a rosary. A rosary was recited on October 9, 2005 at St. Antonia de Padua in Penasco. Mass was held on Monday, October 11, 2005 also at St. Antonia de Padua. Interment followed at Placitas cemetery.

Lydia Q. Mondragon, 89, of Llano Quemado passed away on October 05, 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Levi Mondragon, son in law, George Pacheco and sister, Elba Quinto. She is survived by her children, Leo F. Mondragon (Frances), daughter, Corine Pacheco, grandchildren, David Mondragon (Valorie), Louise Conway (Wayne), Richard Pacheco (Eileen), Albert Pacheco (Debra) and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters and brothers, Amy Oakeley, Molly Rivera, Loyola Gonzales, Nicki Trujillo (Eddie), Nash Quinto (Lee), Toby Quinto and Ray Quinto (Patsy).
