Edward Leonard Stanton, 67, formerly of Taos, NM, and lately of Martha’s Vineyard, peacefully passed away on April 28, 2007, in Chocorua, NH. He was born on April 18, 1940 in Boston, MA, to the Stanton family and subsequently adopted by the Phelans and raised in Lexington, MA. He was educated in Boston area schools. In the late 1950’s he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. Later he joined the Merchant Marine. He worked on tugboats in the early and middle 1960s. In 1968 he arrived in Taos and resided at the Old M&M Garage. In 1969 he built a treehouse in El Salto, before heading to Europe. On Aug. 9, 1978, he married
Roberta Wangner in NH. From this union two children issued forth, Reed Joseph Stanton, 28, of Edgarton, Martha’s Vineyard, MA, born Nov. 26, 1978, and Moriah Rose Stanton, 26, of Long Island, NY, born July 7, 1980. He and Roberta were divorced in 1986. He gained custody of his children. He bought a bus and drove to Mexico where he lived with his kids in Mazatlán and Puerta Vallarta from 1987 until 1990, Ed had many close friends, his best being Suzanna Keith, daughter of Margaret (Peggy) Cannon of Chocorua, NH. Ed was a well educated, well read bon vivant. He was a world traveler, a gourmet cook, and an antique collector. He operated several galleries in Taos and was a knowledgeable art dealer. He was a brilliant teach of The Human Design system. He had a passion for education, was a counselor, and adored young students. He will be sorely missed by his exwife, children and many friends scattered across the globe. His body is being cremated. There are two memorial services scheduled, one on Martha’s Vineyard, in May and one at Pilar Hill in June, with dates and times to be announced.
Jeri T. Morrow, 74, of Taos and formerly of Tulsa, OK, where she spent most of her life passed away on May 07, 2007. She retired as an Office Administrator from Sun Oil in Tulsa, OK. She was the past Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star for the State of Oklahoma and a member of Christ Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. She is preceded in death by her parents, J.T. & Viola Morrow and nephew, Manford Strider. She is survived by sister, Barbara Brawner of Taos, nieces and nephews, Clifford Strider III, Michael Strider, Carl Strider, Brian Strider, Douglas Strider, Donna Giroir and Rebecca Strider and numerous great nieces and nephews. Graveside service was held on May 11, 2007 at Las Cruces cemetery in Taos. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shared Table, A Food Pantry, providing food, shelter and medicine to the less fortunate, at the El Pueblito United Methodist Church, P.O. Francisco Rivera, 28, of Taos passed away on May 08, 2007. He was a 1996 graduate of Taos High School. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph R. Flores, grandparents in law, Max & Feloniz Mondragón. He is survived by his wife, Julie O. Rivera, children, Sonya Romero, Francisco Rivera Jr., and Destiny Baca, parents, Mayanin & Samuel Rivera, sister, Darlene T. Rivera (Antonio) of Albuquerque, brothers, Rosendo T. Rivera of Albuquerque, Samuel F. Rivera II of Taos and Roger Soliz of Albuquerque, grandmother, Ramona G. Flores of California, Inlaws, Martín & Maxine Baca and many other relatives. Epimenia Casías, 70, of Taos passed away on May 03, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Abrán Casías, parents, Juan & Felina Sánchez. She is survived by her children, Patsy Rael (Rudy) of Arroyo Hondo, Darlene Márquez (Jesús) of Tulsa, OK, Bolivar Casías (Epi) of Las Vegas, Juan and Jake Casías both of Taos and grandson she raised, Antonio Casías. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brothers, Cipriano and Eugene Sánchez (Cornelia). Rosary was recited on May 06, 2007. Funeral mass was held on May 07, 2007. Esther Veronica López, 86, of Cerro passed away on May 02, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcos Marcelino López Jr., parents, Luís and Adela Herrera, sons in law, Steve García and Bob Ackley, sister, Isabelita and brother, Tom. She is survived by her children, Luisita Ackley of Virginia, Uvaldo López (Elsie) of Ranchos de Taos, Cecilia Perkins of Cerro, Bernadette Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, Erwin López (Margaret) of Pecos, Josefita Khosravi (Amir) of Littleton, CO and Anita López (Henry) of Eagle Nest. Tanny Quintana, of Cerro, NM, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 4, 2007. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emma María Quintana, her sisters, Of recinia Vigil, Ursulita Barela and grandson, Anthony Padilla. She is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey Padilla (Connie) of Taos, Lenny Quintana (Mickey) of Cerro and Dwayne Bailón of Fort Walton Beach, FL. Grandchildren are Kimberly, Monica Quintana of Cerro, Estrella Padilla and Robbie Gallegos of Taos. She is also survived by her sisters, Rose Santistevan of Cerro, Abbie García (Rudy) of Cerro, Lucy Vigil (Paul) of Colorado Springs, CO., numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Tanny was born in Cerro and was a lifelong resident. Tanny retired last year from the Questa Schools where she worked for 28 years. Tanny will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Miguel Angel Acosta, of Questa, NM, passed away on May 2, 2007 at his home in Questa He was born on January 24, 1943 to Jose and Margarita Acosta in Hermosillo Sonora, Mexico. He is survived by his wife, the Love of his life Adonisa. five sons; Robert Garcia of Questa, Toby (Louis) Garcia, and Patrick Garcia all of Rifle, CO, Gary (Kathy) Garcia and Kenneth (Naomi) Garcia both of Questa, four daughters; Yvonne Garcia of Questa, Carla (George) Vega, Sandra (Chris) Martinez, Eileen (Art) Cordova all of Rifle, CO, two brothers Jose and Nacho Acosta of Hermosillo Sonora, Mexico, two sisters Estella Acosta and Maria Hernandez of Hermoillo Sonora Mexico and 19 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Leo Garen, 70, formerly a part-time resident of Taos, died in Columbia, Dec. 7, 2006.
He had history as a producer-director of Off-Broadway and in the film industry as a screen writer.

Sylvia Paavola Kentala peacefully passed away May 5, 2007 in Taos, New Mexico. She was 101 years old. Sylvia was born in Lohtasa, Finland. She lived in Iron Belt, WI and Chicago, IL before moving to Taos where she had family and good friends. She lived a disciplined and impeccable life in service to others. She will be greatly missed. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Heikki Sanfrid Paavola and Silla Maria Wiitala Paavola; her husband, Oscar in 1960, her son, John Kentala (Violet) of Chicago, IL and her daughter, Irma Lang (Howard) of Tucson, AZ, her brothers Bruno Paavola (Aili), Oscar Paavola (Mary), Henry Paavola (Mary) all of Wisconsin. And her granddaughter Deanna Seiler of Chicago, IL. She is survived by her son, Eugene Kentala (Mary) of Silver Bay, MN and her daughter, Jeanette García (P. LeRoy) of Taos, NM. Casilda G. Jaramillo, 91, of Las Colonias passed away on April 27, 2007. She was a school teacher for 35 years for the Taos Municipal Schools. She was a devoted member of Santo Niño de Atocha Chapel in Las Colonias, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Guadalupanas, Auxiliary member of Holy Cross Hospital and of the Retired Teachers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Feliberto García and Escolastica Vigil, husband, Martín Jaramillo, nephew, Leroy L. Martínez (Helen), brother, Eugenio García (Ernestina) and brother in law, Joe A. Martínez. She is survived by her sisters, Consuelo “Connie” Martínez of Dixon and Angie Graham (Alfonso) of Portales, brother, Gustavo García (Christine) of Las Colonias, and María Socorro García of Peñasco, whom she loved like a daughter and many nephews, nieces and other relatives. Martha Vargas, 83, of Ranchos de Taos passed away on April 24, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Vargas in 2001, infant son, Donald, infant grandson, Arturo Lauro Vargas and infant great grandson, Jonathan Montoya. Martha and her husband, Robert operated Vargas Paint & Tile from 1961 until 1981, since then, their daughters have operated the business. During WWII, Martha was a welder in the ship yards of San Francisco, CA, a real “Rosie the Riveter”. She is survived by her children, Arthur E. Vargas of Las Vegas, Christine A. Vargas, Patricia C. Vargas and Viviana Vargas-Gonzales (Raymond) all of Ranchos de Taos. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and brother, Joe LaCombe (Laura) of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Robert J. Williams, 64, of Llano Quemado passed away on April 29, 2007. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for many years at the Moly Mine, and also at the mine in Summitville, CO. He also worked at Johnson Controls in Los Alamos before retiring. He spent most of his days in his garden, planting trees at home and for his kids and neighbors. He loved spending time with his cats and dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Frances Williams, brothers, Albert and Lou Williams. He is survived by his wife, Julia Williams, children, Robert Williams (Alice), Frances Trujillo (Brian), Maxine Thomas (Steve), Paul Williams and a grandson he raised, Marcus Martínez. He is also survived by grandchildren, Margo, Brittney, Brandie, Brianne, Krista, Oneta, Erin, Daniel and Emily, sisters and brothers, Jenny Martínez (Louis), Shirley Lucero (Bob), Veronica Carrillo (Tony), Vince Williams, Rose Williams and Richard Williams and many other relatives.
