Marc Bergerson, 89, passed away on July 19, 2006, in his home in Laguna Woods, CA. He was a well known artist and a long time resident of Taos. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his son, his daughter, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his nephews and nieces. John David Cordóva, 36, of Albuquerque, passed away late Saturday afternoon (July 22) after an extended illness. He is survived by his daughters, Nikki and Faith; mother, Ernestina Cordóva; sisters, Micaela Cordóva and Patricia Spitz and husband Robert of Taos; nephews, Jason and Justin; grandmother, Birda Vigil of Taos; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from Taos Pueblo, town of Taos, Tesuque and Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his father, Valentino Cordova; maternal grandfather, Eloy Vigil; paternal grandparents, Onesimo and Manuelito Cordóva of Taos Pueblo. John was a gifted musician who spent his time in Los Angeles for many years. In the past few years, John spent time as a loving father who was always thoughtful of others and whose first concern was always his daughters, Nikki and Faith. The family would like to thank all the family and friends for keeping John in their thoughts and prayers during his illness. Services were held in Albuquerque.
Feliz Gonzales, 87, of Questa, died July 21, 2006. She was born to José Eladio and Luz Bailón on October 23, 1918, and married
Alejandro José Gonzales on August 29, 1938 In Costilla, NM. Her hobbies included cooking, arts and crafts, pottery and sewing. Feliz, belonged to the Senior Olympics And Los Abuelitos. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers; Ernestino Bailón, Felimon Bailón, Gilbert Bailón, Bernabe Bailón, Elix Bailón, one sister; Elodia Aragón. She is survived by one brother; Joe Bailón of Albuquerque, one sister; Ruth Gonzales of Questa, three sons; Maurice (Velva) Gonzales of Albuquerque, Alex Jr. (Norma) Gonzales of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ricky Gonzales of Questa, two daughters; Rita J. Rael of Questa, Lydia (Juan) Aguirre of Questa, NM, sixteen grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and lots of nephews and nieces. There will be a viewing at the Weylen’s Funeral Home Chapel from 1:00 pm thru 5:00 pm in Questa, NM. Rosary will be held on Monday, July 24 at 7:00 pm at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Questa, NM. Victoria Tórrez, 87, of Talpa passed away on July 19, 2006. She retired from the State of New Mexico Motor Vehicle Department. She is preceded in death by her parents, Celso & Eralia Tórrez and brother, Refugio Lauriano Tórrez. She is survived by her brothers, Anselmo Tórrez (Cecilia) of Talpa, Joe A. Tórrez (Gloria) of Pueblo, CO, Reymundo Tórrez (Clorinda) of Pueblo, CO and sister, Pabla Gabaldon (Macario) of Los Lunas. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, great, great great and great great great nephews and nieces. Rosary was recited on July 20, 2006. Funeral mass was held on July 21, 2006. Deane Cline, M.D. died on July 2, 2006 in New Braunfels, Texas. Dr. Cline as born in Haxtun, CO on July 7, 1920. He was raised in Amarillo, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Veterinary Medicine degree in 1943 and from Baylor University College of medicine in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He practiced medicine in Houston, Texas and retired from fulltime practice in 1990. He and his wife, Jeanne then moved to Taos, when he volunteered at the Taos Picuris Indian Health center for over 10 years. They moved back to Texas in Feb. 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne. (489 Apex Ave. New Braunfels, Texas 78132) three children, and grandchildren. A memorial was held on July 7, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels. Mary V. Benson, 92, born in Green Forest, Arkansas in 1914, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2006 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Reo J. Benson, in 1993. She is survived by four children; Douglas Benson of Manhattan, Kansas, Karen Benson of Omaha, Nebraska; Donald Benson of Seattle, Washington, and Patti Timmons of Deming, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Eric Benson of Wamego, Kansas, and Craig Benson of Columbia, MIssouri; and two great-grandchildren, Margaret and Josephine Benson of Wamego, Kansas. A longtime resident of Taos, New Mexico, she and her husband retired in Albuquerque in 1982. George Crisantos Baca, 68, of Arroyo Seco passed away on July 13, 2006. He retired from Moly Corp Mine as a welding mechanic. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Baca, children, Tony Baca (Nancy) of Taos, Sylvia Cordova (Dion) of Velarde, DiAnna Martínez (Melvin) of Albuquerque, Jo Ann Baca (Jack) of Arroyo Seco, Ruby Martínez (Benny) of Velarde, Charlie Baca of Albuquerque, brother, Joe L. Alfirio B. Gonzáles, 86, of Questa, passed away on July 13, 2006. He was born to Juan B. González and Eufemia Martínez on September 2, 1919. Alfirio served in the United States Army during World War II with the 1st Calvary Artillery Division in the Pacific Theater. He served in the battles of New Guinea, Bismarck- Archipelago, and the Southern Philippines and was also present at the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. Upon his return from World War II, he married
Lucia Vallejos on May 25, 1946. They fulfilled a dream of owning a farm, which became their lifelong passion. He worked as a mechanic at MolyCorp until retirement in 1979.
His hobbies included fishing, baseball (his nickname was Pajarito) and irrigating his farmland. He also belonged to the V.F.W., the Cabresto Lake Irrigation Association, the Bailadores Del Norte and Peregrinos. He participated in the Senior Olympics and coached in the Questa Little League for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Eufemia, his brother Alejandro González and his sisters Lola Montes of San José, California, Eliza Anita Ávila of Oakdale, California, Rebecca Cisneros of Questa, Priscilla Gonzales of Questa and Oclides Montoya of Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his wife, Lucia, three sons, Johnny (Nancy) González of Questa, Anthony (Mark) Gonzáles of Albuquerque, Jacob Gonzáles of Questa, three daughters, Kathy Ramos of Chula Vista, California, Maggie (Becky) Gonzáles of Questa, Anna (Ray) Reichbach of Rio Rancho, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Andrew “Homes” González, 25, of Taos died June 13, 2006. He is preceded in death by his dad Miguel “Cheech” Martínez. He is survived by his mother, Penny Martínez and brother, Miguel Martínez Jr. of Taos, sisters Roxanne Martínez and Alicia Duran of Aurora, CO, maternal grandparents Floyd & JoAnne Oliver and uncles, Mike & Tim Oliver of Nebraska. Francis Dominic “Mickey” Quinn Jr., 78, of Taos passed away on July 04, 2006. He was owner and operator for 40 years of Cattle Raisers Supply Co. in Fort Worth, TX. Mickey was an avid supporter of Stray Hearts Animal Shelter. Jerry Wayne Slay, 54, died Wednesday, June 28 in Durango, Colorado. Jerry resided with his children and mother in Taos. Jerry and his mother, Jackie Baca, operated Jackie's Trading Post in north Taos. He was born in Houston, Texas, attended Valley High School in Albuquerque and formerly resided in Kalapana, Hawaii. He is survived by his son, Jerry Slay, Jr., 21 and daughters Sylvia, 17, of Taos and Amy, 31, of the Grand Bahamas, his mother, Jackie Baca of Taos. Sisters, Jackie and Jeanne and brothers Sam and Bill, all of Fort Worth Texas. Many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends that he has known for years. Jerry never met a stranger and always provided a helping hand for friends in need. He was a loving father, son, brother, and friend. He will be painfully missed but eternally remembered by those he loved and those that loved him. A gathering of family and friends was held on July 2 in the family's Taos home. Jay Allen Tuft, 52, of Angel Fire went to be with the Lord on July 03, 2006, the result of a one car accident. Born September 24, 1953 in San Bernardino, California to Robert and Marjorie Tuft, Jay was a graduate of Northwest Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. He served in the U.S. Forest Service in California before moving to New Mexico in the early 1980's. He loved to ski and worked as an instructor at Red River Ski Area during winter months while building log homes in the summer, eventually founding Tuft Construction Company after moving to Angel Fire. He was an avid golfer. He married
Judy Mellas, the love of his life in 1989. The couple soon became vital members of their churches Faith Mountain Fellowship Church of Red River and later Angel Fire Four Square Church. They overcame physical challenges with kidney failures, diabetes and several organ transplants and served the Lord in Africa, in teaching ministries and in nursing home assistance. He is survived by his wife Judy Tuft of Angel Fire, a son Beau Tuft of San Marcos, Texas, parents Robert and Marjorie Tuft of Coquille, Oregon, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Heather Tuft and brother Dale Tuft of Auburn, California, stepson and daughter-in-law Homer and Cara Mellas, granddaughter Taylor Mellas, father and motherinlaw John and Clara Schmidt, sisterinlaw Sherrie Lacey and nephew Phillip Saxon. Quentin Caldwell Burrows was born on April 24, 1943, in Cambridge, Massachusetts and passed away on May 17, 2006, in Taos, New Mexico, at the age of sixtythree. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar S. Burrows, and his mother, Dorothy E. Burrows. Quentin is survived by his two sons, Matthew H. Burrows and Christopher L. Burrows, both from California. He is also survived by his younger brother, Stanley W. Burrows, and his fiancée, Lynn M. Purcell of Taos, New Mexico. Quentin was grandfather to Lloyd S. Burrows, Miles L. Burrows and Ryann E. Burrows, and uncle to Dylan D. Burrows. Quentin grew up in Cambridge, MA. He earned degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and started his professional career as an officer at Banker's Trust Company in New York. After several years, he was recruited by the Bank of America and his family relocated to Berkeley, California where they lived for many years. Following his banking career, Quentin enjoyed a successful teaching career, educating several generations of students in accounting and business law at John F. Kennedy University in California, and at the University of California at Berkeley Extension. He also served as the Director of the International Diploma Program at UC Berkeley for many years. It was at the International Diploma Program where he met his fiancée, Lynn Purcell. Quentin and Lynn fell in love with New Mexico and traveled there countless times throughout the years. In 2004 they moved to Taos, where Quentin had embarked on a new career with UNM Taos. In addition to his passion for music, Quentin was a photography enthusiast and an engaging conversationalist, well known for his keen intellect and wit. He was a devoted father, grandfather, companion, brother, uncle and friend. Quentin will be remembered with love and affection by his family and many friends. A memorial service was held for Quentin in Berkeley, California on Sunday, June 11.

Euphrocine “Euphie” Le Doux Mares Tune, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2006 due to complications of diabetes. She was born October 5, 1916 in Wagon Mound, New Mexico to Frank Mares and Margarita LeDoux. Her family lineage included some of the oldest ranchers and businessmen of northern New Mexico; her grandparents were Vicente Ferber Mares and Margarita McGrath Durán; Emilio LeDoux and Anna Maria McGrath Durán; her great grandparents, Juan Jesús Mares and Juana Neposena Gonzales; Fredrick Miller and Teodora Beaubien; her great great-grandparents Charles Beaubien and Paula Lovato; Abram LeDoux and Magdalena Guadalupe Trujillo. “Euphie” as she was fondly known to her family and friends attended school in Wagon Mound and St. Mary’s Academy in Denver, Colorado from where she graduated. She began her working career with the Taos, New Mexico Post Office as a Temporary Clerk and later became a civil service employee in the Postal Service from where she retired after 36 years of service. Euphie volunteered at Holy Cross Hospital and assisted her husband in their antique shop. She helped at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos. In 1978, Euphie and her husband Tom relocated to the Las Cruces area. She taught catechism at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish in Tortugas; was a member of Los Pastores of the Mesilla Valley for several years. Euphie was always helping seniors and young alike. Survivors include her loving husband, Thomas Tune of the family home; one sister, Eleanor Costales of California. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews At Euphie’s request cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held Friday, August 18, 2006 in Holy Cross Catholic Church at 1 p.m. 1327 N. Miranda Street with inurnment of cremains to follow in St. Francis Columbarium with Reverend Ray Flores officiating. Lawrence Frank, Jr., of Arroyo Hondo passed away on August 7, 2006 He was a prominent collector and dealer of Southwestern Native American and Spanish colonial art, author of fiction and nonfiction, and documentary film maker. Larry, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, was the beloved husband of Alyce Frank, a well-known painter of Southwestern landscape scenes. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his sister, Nancy Frank of Beverly Hills, California, his children, Ross, Melissa and Chad, five grandchildren, and many colleagues, clients and fans in New Mexico and around the world.
