Rachel D. Jones, 77, of Wolfforth, Texas, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1926, in Matador, Texas.
She moved to Clovis in 1939. She married Carl Murtis Jones on Aug. 17, 1946, in Clovis. She was employed by the city of Clovis and Curry County as the director of the Division of Older Adults from 1972 until retiring in 1982. She moved to Wolfforth in 1997. In Clovis, she was a member of the Soroptimist Club and the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by a daughter, Deniece Jones of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews.
Gene Medley will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, Texas.

Alice Keever

Alice Ann Gonzales Keever, 74, of Fort Sumner, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque.
She was born on May 21, 1929, in Hooker, Okla., to Elias and Petra Valdez Gonzales.
Her family moved to Los Ojitos, north of Fort Sumner, when she was a child. She attended school at Fort Sumner. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother. Family members said she enjoyed preparing holiday meals, family gatherings in her home, fishing, crocheting and embroidering. She was a member of The Church On the Hill in Fort Sumner since 1978.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art Keever; three brothers, Brijido, Johnny and Elias Gonzales Jr.
Survivors include four daughters, Donna Morgan (and husband, Charles) and Mary Montano (Kenneth), all of Vaughn and Miquela Jones (Roger) and Georgia Keever (David Vansickel), all of Fort Sumner; six sons, Jose Aragon of Phoenix, Richard Aragon of Santa Rosa, Nick Aragon of Albuquerque, Bobby Aragon (Ramona) of Las Vegas, Jimmy Aragon (Sue) of Amarillo and J.B. Aragon (Marie) of Fort Sumner; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Parker, Rose Hunter and Cecilia Luttrall, all of Amarillo; and two brothers, Paul Gonzales and Benjamin Gonzales, both of Fort Sumner.
Anna Teeter and Charles Morgan will officiate the services.
Pallbearers are her grandchildren.
Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery.

Don Kelt

Mr. Don Kelt, 74, of Clovis, a retired member of the U.S. Air Force and Civil Service, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, in Clovis.
He was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Carrizozo, to William and Maggie Gallagher Kelt.
He graduated from Tucumcari High School. He joined the Air Force in 1948 and retired in 1969. He married Mary Mullikin on July 19, 1952, in Erlanger, Ky. He received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1975. He retired from Civil Service at Cannon Air Force Base in 1992. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3280 in Clovis and the Portales Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Harry and Frank Kelt; and a sister, Willie Bilbo.
He is survived by his wife; a son, James Kelt (and wife, Lisa); two grandchildren, Laurie and Justin Kelt, both of Roswell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie Miller will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Tommie Kemp

Tommie Kemp, 71, of Hereford died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at the Westgate Nursing Home in Hereford.
He was born July 5, 1932, in Gatesville, Texas, to Charlie and Velma Kemp. He married Brenda McGavock in Juarez, Mexico, in 1972.
Mr. Kemp owned and operated Kemp Supply Company in Hereford for more than 40 years and was still active in the business. He was a veteran, having served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hereford.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda of the home; two sons, Marc Kemp of Gatesville and Thomas Kemp (and wife Donna) of Hereford; two daughters, Catherine Kemp of Edgewood and Stacy Kemp of Houston; a brother, Charles Kemp of Richardson, Texas; a sister, Mava Northcutt of Clovis; six grandchildren and a special dog, Mabel.
The family request memorials to Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospice, Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105 or Westgate Nursing Center of Kings Manor Retirement Home, 400 Ranger, Hereford, TX 79045.
Arrangements were under the direction of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford.
The Rev. Ted Taylor and the Rev. Ed Sweeney officiated at the service. The family was to have a private interment.
Casey Kennedy

Mr. Casey “Cal” Kennedy, 46, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at his home in Portales.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1956, in Portales to Dell and Nolan Luce. He attended the Portales Public Schools. He was raised in the Arch community by his grandparents, H.B. and Ina Mae Kennedy. Family members said he was a very outgoing and friendly person, and never knew a stranger. He drank coffee at several local cafes and always enjoyed visiting with other patrons. A highlight of his year were the annual Kennedy family and the Luce family reunions. He also enjoyed camping and going to the lake. He was a member of the Arch Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dell Meadows, in 1990, as well as other family members.
Survivors include his father, Nolan Luce of Phoenix; a brother, Max (and wife Peggy) Kennedy of Portales; a sister, Brenda Strickland of Bridgeport, Texas; a half-sister, Belinda Luce of Phoenix; five nieces; three nephews; as well as a number of other relatives.
The Rev. Tony Reynolds will officiate the services.
Burial was in Floyd Cemetery prior to the service.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends and neighbors.

Andrew Kersey

Andrew Troy Kersey, 80, of Albuquerque, died Saturday, June 5, 2004.
He was born on April 29, 1924, in Manitou, Okla., to Andrew and Lela Cook Kersey.
He was raised in Oklahoma Lane, Texas. He was a World War II veteran. He retired from Sandia National Labs in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Kersey; five children, June Butler (and husband, Brian) of Albuquerque, Kaye Bachr (Don) of Edgewood, Joan Kostedt of Portales, Tom Kersey of Albuquerque and Gloria Drake (Steve) of Clovis; nine grandchildren, Bruce Martin and family, Glenn Kostedt and family, Janet Buenafe and family, Ken Kostedt and family, Tonya Nelson and family, James Lowe and family, Allan Kostedt and family, Troy Butler and Lin Drake; and 19 grandchildren.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.

William Ketcham

Mr. William Ketcham, 89, of Portales, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1913, in Tioga, Colo., to Ellen and Nicholas Ketcham.
He married Velma Kindt on June 11, 1939, in Westcliff, Colo. He spent most of his life in Huerfano County, Colo. where he worked on the family farm and ranch. During the Great Depression he worked for the Work Placement Association. He moved to Portales in 1975 and worked for C.H. and Eldon Hays until he was 74. He retired and moved to the country where he spent the last 16 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather; a brother; a sister; a daughter, Rhonda; and two sons, Bill and Ronnie.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Janice Self (and husband, Jack) of Portales, Helena Brinkley (Blas) of Andrews, Texas and Marlene Peddicord (Terry) of Big Lake, Texas; a son, Charlie Ketcham (Perlina) of Alamosa, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three sisters; and two brothers.

Helen Kettner

Mrs. Helen L. Kettner, 86, of Clovis, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, in Independence, Mo.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1916, in Center Township, Kan., to Charles and Myrtle Lantz Hufferd.
She married Carl J. Kettner on Jan. 15, 1950, in Emporia, Kan. She had been a longtime Clovis resident, moving from Emporia in 1954. She was a part owner Priscilla’s Dress Shop and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Harry and Orville Ketner; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Stevenson of Independence, Mo.; two sons, Charles Snyder (and wife, Lois) of Clovis and Marion Snyder (Kathy) of Crestview, Fla.; a sister, Thelma Fenimore of Clovis; 13 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Scott Blazek will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Paul Kinard

Paul A. Kinard, 76, of Clovis, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born on April 20, 1928, in Claude, Texas, to Alman A. and Emma Pauline Grundy Kinard.
He married Billy Jean Beckham on March 4, 1952, in Memphis, Texas. He was the director of guidance for Clovis Public Schools and manager of Furrow’s Home Lumber in Clovis. He earned a masters degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. He developed the night school classes at Clovis High School, which is now New Horizons. He taught in a one room school house in Colorado and farmed. Family members said he loved fishing, golfing and P.R.C.A. bull riding.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Joe Miles Kinard and Jack Kinard; and a sister, Frances Bruce.
Survivors include two daughters, Zella Furrow (and husband, Raymond) and Lesley Johnson (Mike), all of Clovis; five grandchildren, Cade Foster (Cheri), Brian Foster (Nicole), Mollie Furrow, Tracy Ladd (Brett) and Jay Brian Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Jacob Foster and Erica and Emily Ladd; a brother, Donald Kinard (Nancy) of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Virginia Morris of Clovis.
The family will be at 101 Hummingbird.
Herbert Bergstrom will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Visitation is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.

Jack King

Mr. Jack E. King, 81, of Portales, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
He was born on April 20, 1923, in Clovis, to Gracie Dell and Luther Eber King.
His family moved from their home north of Clovis to Cedarvale by covered wagon in 1929. He attended school in Cedarvale, near Corona. In 1942, he joined the US Navy, as a communications officer. He retired in 1961 as a Chief Petty Officer. He married Lucille Laquinta on Aug. 18, 1954, in Wahiawa, Hawaii. After his retirement, they made their home in Tularosa, where he farmed and was employed as an administrator for Dyna Electron at Holloman Air Force Base until 1978. While living in Tularosa he was active in the Lion’s Club. In 1984 he moved to Capitan. In 1986 he bought his first race horse. He continued to train race horses for the remainder of his life. They moved to Corona in 1987, and then to Portales in 1991. He was a lifetime member of the Beaverbond American Legion Post in Corona. He attended the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack King (and wife, Wynn) of Ruidoso and Jim King of Portales; two daughters, Judy Kennedy (John) of Vail, Ariz. and Joyce Roulston (Barry) of Stephenville, Texas; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his step-mother, Leah King of Alamogordo; two brothers, Gerald King of Kent, Wash. and Franklin King of Leander, Texas; and a sister, Billie Pender of Alamogordo.
The Rev. Harry Riser will officiate the services, assisted by various members of Mr. King’s family.
Pallbearers are Justin, Jady and Jacob King, Ty, Ryan and Sara Roulston, Maggie and Claire Kennedy and Sheryl Turner.
A private burial service will be held at Portales Cemetery.

Laura King

Laura King, 91, of Ruidoso, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Ruidoso Care Center in Ruidoso.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1912, in Buffalo, Mo., to Lettie and B.F. Bennett.
At the age of 4, her family moved to the Dora area where she attended school. She married William H. King on Sept. 3, 1927, in Dora. They farmed in the Dora community for over 50 years, during which she also drove a school bus, cooked in the school cafeteria and served as the Dora Post Mistress. In 2000 she moved to Ruidoso. Family members said she enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, horse racing and the family cabin. She was a member of the Dora Baptist Church and the Dora Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bernard and Revis Bennett; a sister, Avelyn Richards; a daughter, Connie Lynn King; and by her husband.
Survivors include a son, Wayne King of Ruidoso; three grandchildren, Vaunda Stenzel (and husband, Mike) of Ruidoso, Lanny King of Carlsbad and Tena Johnson of Bovina; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Herbert Bergstrom and Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dora.

Oma King

Mrs. Oma Little Akin King, 96, of Odessa, Texas, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at the Home Hospice House in Odessa.
She was born on Aug. 3, 1906, in Gilmore, Ky., to Flint and Susan Little.
She married Bo Akin in 1923 and she married Mike King in 1962. She lived in the Roswell community for 25 years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis. She was a former president of Wives of Locomotive Engineers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Nora Little Goddin, Aileen Hamilton and Dovie Newman; and a brother, William “Bill” Little.
She is survived by a son, Richard Akin of Amarillo; a daughter, Doris Porter of Odessa; a step-son, Bud King of Gilette, Wyo.; a step-daughter, Linda Milburn (and husband, George) of Clovis; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Agnes Kirkpatrick

Mrs. Agnes “Polly” Kirkpatrick, 75, of Farwell, a housewife, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Farwell Convalescent Center.
She was born on Jan. 25, 1929, in Minden, La., to Isaac and Eva Miller.
Family members said she loved to cook for family and friends and enjoyed reading her Bible. She was a member of 16th and Pile Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Eve Kirkpatrick of Seattle, Wash., Kathy Kirkpatrick, Marleah Kirkpatrick and Darra Diane Kirkpatrick, all of Clovis; a sister, Hazel Miller White of Minden, La.; and three grandchildren.

Billie Kisella

Billie Kisella, 77, of Monroe, Wash., formerly of Clovis, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, in Monroe, Wash.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1926, to Torrence and Vada Reed.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Wilt of Monroe, Wash., Joy Caswell of Ruidoso and Kathy Kisella of San Jose, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and two aunts, Audrey Elliott of Virginia, formerly of Clovis and Mary Bell of Clovis.

Charles Knowles

Mr. Charles Knowles of Portales, 73, of Portales died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, in Farmington.
He was born on June 6, 1930, in Waco, Texas, to Virginia and Fred R. Knowles.
He came to Portales as a young boy. He has driven trucks his entire life, and was out on the truck when he died. When he was a boy his first job was driving for Haskell Doyal. He served in the Air Force from 1949 until 1953. He has driven for many different men, including J.A. Ray, J.D. Ray, Earl Busby, Slim Ervin and Clifford Merrick. He has been self-employed for the past 20 years. He married Vita Hahn on Nov. 18, 1953. Family members said he was a loving and devoted husband and family man. He had nicknames for all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved trucks and had a collection of several model trucks. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, M.R. Knowles and Fred Richard Knowles Jr.; a sister, Bessie Huens; and a son, Dennis.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ron Knowles of Portales; three daughters, Brenda Hardin (and husband, Don) of Portales, Charlotte Blandford (Jerry) of Las Cruces and Carolyn Knowles of Portales; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, R.B. Knowles of Portales; and two sisters, Betty Hahn and Mary Hahn, both of Portales.
The Rev. Walter Huber will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Hardin, Steven Merrick, Cody Goehry, Bart Bronniman, Ronny Miller and Jeff Buttner.
