Grace Ruth Dennis, 89, of Bonham, Texas, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Fairview Nursing Home in Bonham, Texas.
She was born on July 16, 1914, in Nolanbill, Texas, to John Clem and Maude May Lamb Edwards.
She married Marshall C. Dennis on July 22, 1939, in Brownwood, Texas. She was a school teacher having taught 41 years in the schools at Owens, Early, and Blanket, Texas, and retiring from the school system in Clovis. She was a graduate of Howard Payne University. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bonham where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Red River Valley Art Association in Bonham.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother, George Alva Edwards.
She is survived by a sister, Annabel Bewley (and husband, John) of Bonham, Texas; three nephews, John Bewley (Judy) of Ocean Springs, Miss., David Edwards (Carol) of Chicago, Ill. and Mark Bewley (Sheila) of Bonham, Texas; nieces, Karen Edwards of Exetor, England and Sue Ann Simpson (Bret) of Bonham, Texas; many great-nieces and nephews; and many great-great-nieces and nephews.
The Revs. Roger Marsh and Kevin Towery will officiate the services.
Burial was in Arledge Ridge Cemetery in Bonham, Texas.
Pallbearers were Mark, John, Colt and Dustin Bewley, Bret Simpson, David Edwards, James Simpson and Kirk Dennis.

CAROL DEPPERMAN

Carol Lavon Kemp Depperman, 68, of Clovis, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at her home.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1935, in Muleshoe to Walter A. and Grace Fish Kemp.
Her family moved to Portales where she graduated from high school in 1953. She married Warren Bell Depperman on Oct. 3, 1953. She moved to Clovis with her daughters in 1968. In 1975 she became a secretary for the Cannon Air Force Base fire department and in 1976 became their first civilian woman firefighter. She was in the first graduating class in fire science at ENMU-Clovis in 1985. She became a fire inspector and transferred to Kirkland Air Force Base until she retired. She moved back to Clovis in 2000. She helped to organize the girl's softball program in 1970 and a women's program in 1972. She was the first woman to register as an umpire in New Mexico in 1975. She was a ruling elder in Clovis’ First Presbyterian Church and president of the Jet Bowling League.
She was preceded by her parents, two brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Depperman (husband, William Nance) of Clovis and Peggy Manz (Boyd) of Aurora, Colo.; five grandchildren, Mario Depperman, Cecilia Aranda, Amanda “Mandy” Manis and Keshia and Brett Manz; five great-grandchildren, Daniel and Joshua Aranda, Mario II, October and Naomi Depperman; a brother, Walter Kemp of New Castle, Colo.; five sisters, Lola Mae Tipton of Parachute, Colo., Angilee Millen of Fort Worth, Texas, Cora Snyder of Friona, Florene Carby of Clovis and Doris Parker of Muleshoe.
Lance Clemmons will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
David Oliver Dilbeck
Mr. David Oliver Dilbeck, 78, of Clovis, retired from the Santa Fe Railroad, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Laurel Ridge Healthcare in Clovis.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1925, in Watumka, Okla., to James and Mary Dilbeck.
He married Lena J. Taylor on Jan. 27, 1947, in Tucumcari. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was of the Baptist faith. Family members said he enjoyed and took great pride when sharing and giving his love for the great outdoors to, not only his own children and grandchildren, but nieces, nephews and friends of the family. His teachings and influence touched the lives of many who still treasure the gift he gave them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald; two daughters, Sheila Jane and Shirley; two sisters, Una Huggins and Mary Johnson; and a brother, Bruce Dilbeck.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Dilbeck (and wife, Linda) of Houston and Wayne Dilbeck of Clovis; three daughters, Becky Gear (Danny) and Jan Riley (Danny), all of Clovis and Karen Buchtel (Hugh) of Hoyt, Kan.; a brother, James Dilbeck (Ruby) of Kilgore, Texas; a sister-in-law, Charlene Dilbeck of Bakersfield, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Burial will be at Grady Cemetery with military honors by the U. S. Navy and New Mexico Army National Guard.
Pallbearers are the grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are all his friends and coworkers at AT&SF.

Mrs. Aileen Disney
Mrs. Aileen Disney, 89, of Portales, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at her home.
She was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Clifton, Tenn., to Lula Mae and W.B. “Doc” Smith.
She married Lorace Disney on June 16, 1933.
She spent her formative years in Clifton. As a teenager, she moved to Portales for the sake of her parents’ health. She was a 1932 graduate of Portales High School. During World War II she lived in almost every state in the union. Following the war she returned to Portales, living there until 1956. She was living in the Chicago area in 1969 when her husband died. Following his death, she returned to Portales. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Family members said her hobbies included sewing and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Sonny Smith; two sisters, Jo Ethel Smith and Kathleene Smith; a daughter, Loris Arlene Disney; and her husband, Lorace, who died April 6, 1969.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan E. Disney, of Fresno, Calif.
Services were held at Portales Cemetery.
The Rev. Harry Riser officiated.
Honorary bearers were Dwayne Disney, Norris Conklin, Garland Conklin, Basil Nash, Jim Jacobs and Cory Gamzow.

Leon Doolittle

Mr. Leon Doolittle, 71, of Texico, a meat cutter, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born on April 19, 1932, in Clovis to Truman and Ruth Bell Doolittle. He lived in Clovis and Texico all his life.
The family ran a dairy where Clovis Municipal Airport is currently located.
He was a big Texico Wolverine fan, and he loved Bingo and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Darwin, Mansel, Jerial, Hershal and Kenneth.
Survivors include two sons, Terry (and wife Lisa) Doolittle of Amarillo and Randy Doolittle (and partner Stacy Milligan) of Ellijay, Ga.; two daughters, Margie (and husband Dennis) Smith of Baxter, Tenn., and Darla (and husband Scott) Faulkner of Clovis; three brothers, Marvin Doolittle of Clovis, Ansel Doolittle of Lubbock and Gayle Doolittle of Texico; two sisters, Doris Tucker of Anaheim, Calif., and Sue Scott of Plains, Texas; and four grandchildren, Victoria, Lacee, Ryan and Stacee.
Glenda Horner and John Dawson will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at Texico Cemetery.

Mrs. Clymena "Mimi" Doose, 86, of Clovis, a seamstress, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the Senior Citizen Resident Center in Clovis.
She was born on June 27, 1916, in Carnegie, Okla., to John and Beatrice Peters.
She had been a resident of Clovis since 1941. She was a member of Central Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie L. Doose; and two sisters, Bess Corbin and Inez White.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. Doose (and wife, Dorothy) of Farmington; a daughter, Suellen Wall (and husband, Mike) of Tularosa; a brother, J.D. Peters of Clovis; a sister, Dorothy Scarborough of Clovis; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Gerald Dorough

Mr. Gerald Franklin Dorough, 87, of Clovis, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.
He was born on July 9, 1916, in Mountain, Ark., to James and May Dorough.
He was married for 66 years to Bertha Dorough. He worked 41 years at Southwestern Public Service, retiring as a district manager and receiving the outstanding manager award numerous times.
Community activities included the New Mexico State Industrial Board, president and board member of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Committee of Fifty, treasurer of the Curry County Fair Board, and district governor of Lions International. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Clovis Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, the Clovis Noonday Lions Club, the Clovis Elks Lodge.
He joined the Curry County Mounted Patrol in 1948 and participated in the Pioneer Days Rodeo throughout his membership. He was named Outstanding Citizen for 1951 by the Clovis Junior Chamber of Commerce. With his wife, he was a member of the Good Sam Travel Club. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cowboy activities, and conversing at local coffee clubs.
Survivors include his wife; a son Jerry (and wife, Phyllis) of Albuquerque; a daughter, Judy (Ron) Mershon of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Jim (Victoria) Dorough, Richard (Jackie) Dorough, Denise (Mike) Olson and Greg (Marianne) Mershon; and seven great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Steve McElroy will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Curry County Mounted Patrol members John Dickson, Lee Ross Hammond, Paul Dee Barnes, Ronnie Brooks, Richard Hadley, Bob Lacy, Dewey Pierce and Glenn Spriggs. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and other members of the mounted patrol.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Preston Dosher

Mr. Preston Dale Dosher, 74, of Joplin, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at a nursing home in Joplin, Mo.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1929, in Tipton, Okla.
In 1943 he moved to west Texas where he farmed and attended the Oklahoma Lane school. He moved to California in the 1950s and lived there for many years. He worked for Anaconda Wire in Orange, Calif. In 1984 he moved to Clovis to care for his parents. He worked on his brother’s farm and ranch north of Clovis. He was a cowboy. He married Leslie in 1955. In 1995 he moved to Carthage, Mo.
Survivors include three daughters, Lee Ann Betterton, Teresa Stegall and Luthericia “Shelly” Dosher, all of Joplin; four grandchildren, Geoffrey and Stephanie Pitts and Tia and Dedra Chrisman; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Starla Chrisman; two brothers, Frank Dosher Jr. of Clovis and Lanny Dosher of Albuquerque; five sisters, Joyce McGuire of Lubbock, Darla Stanley of Atwater, Calif., Shirley Patteson of Fairport, N.J., Carmelita Holland of Roswell and Marilyn Sandi of Santa Anna, Calif.; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place.

Margaret Dougherty

Mrs. Margaret Ruth Ricketts Dougherty, 95, of Tucumcari, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Tucumcari.
She was born on Aug. 2, 1907, in Castro County, Texas, to Ira Sankey and Annie Hughes Ricketts.
She married Archie Dougherty in 1928 and they moved to the Frio Draw north of Clovis where they ranched until 1973. Her flower arrangements graced the church on many a Sunday aand her flowers garnered blue ribbons at county fairs. She was a member of Claud Rainy Day Club, Encanto Garden Club and the Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother; two sisters; and a son-in-law, C.W. Daniel.
She is survived by nine children, LaNelda Kresge (and husband, Don) of Logan; David Dougherty (and wife, Virginia) of Abbott, Texas, Ruth Daniel of Tucumcari; Noel Dougherty (and wife, Juandell) of Pendaries, Wylie Dougherty (and wife, Ruth Ann) of Peoria, Ariz., Allynda Treas (and husband, Donald) of Navajo Dam, Pete Dougherty (and wife, Michelle) of Monroe, La., Bill Dougherty (and wife, Lois) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Jane Westbrook (and husband, Gary Brightbill) of Cedar Crest; 34 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Catharine Russell of Hereford; a brother, Glenn Ricketts of Canadian, Texas; a sister-in-law, Katherine Blackham of St. George, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1907, in Farmersville, Texas, to Rufus and Julia Thompson Glass.
She was raised in Farmersville. She made Clovis her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Everett E. Wallace; her second husband, Ronald L. Douglas; and a son, Ed Wallace.

Uley Dowell Jr.

Uley “Pappy” Dowell, 79, of Lake Sumner, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in an automobile accident at Lake Sumner State Park.
He was born April 11, 1924, in Eldon, Iowa, to Uley Dewite Dowell Sr. and the former Grace Howard.
He served more than 22 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of chief petty officer. He was a longtime member and post commander of American Legion Post 29 at Lake Sumner, a member of the National Bass Club, North American Fishing Association, Good Sam’s Club, National Rifle Association, the Eagles Club in Roswell and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles at Fort Sumner.
He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Georgia Jones; a brother, Irish Dowell; and a sister, Goldie Chapman.
Survivors include a son, Marvin Dowell of McAlester, Okla.; and two grandsons, Christopher T. Dowell of Alameda, Calif., and Benjamin M. Dowell of Maryland.
Cremation has taken place.

Mrs. Lorraine Kay Downie, 45, of Clovis, a homemaker, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at her home.
She was born on May 1, 1959, in Los Angeles County, Calif., to Alonzo and Janice Sewell Lissick.
She married Lee Downie on March 22, 1980, in California. She had been a resident of Clovis since 1995, moving to Clovis from California. Family members said her grandchildren were her number one thing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Barbara Ann Lissick.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Kimberly Downie of Clovis; a son, Alonzo Downie of Clovis; two sisters, Sue Barger (and husband, Darrel) of San Antonio and Mary Romine (Terry) of Barstow, Calif.; a brother, Alonzo Lissick of Universal City, Texas; and three grandchildren, Ashleigh, Roy and Alonzo Downie.

Mrs. Dessie Lorene Duke, 78, of Tucumcari, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Arlie, Texas.
She had been an active member of Trinity Baptist Church of Tucumcari. She was a charter member of the Naomi Chapter No. 26, Order of the Eastern Star of San Jon, and had been a past worthy matron of that organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Duke, in 1998; six brothers, Jack, Bertrand, Dee, Joe, Selruy and Brice Shiplet; and by a sister, Mayfair Graves.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna (Tony) Smith of Clovis, Bonnie Duke of Grady and Tammy (Brent) Myers of Clovis; one brother, Lem (Josephine) Shiplet of Clovis; one sister-in-law, Creo Shiplet of Logan; three grandchildren, Amanda Myers, Derry (Tisha) Webb and Danny Webb; and two great-grandchildren, Brittanie Webb and Devan Webb.

Faye Dunn

Faye Dunn, 85, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A resident of Security, Colo., since 1996, she was a former resident of Clovis.
Mrs. Dunn was born on Aug. 25, 1918, to DC Francis Decker and Nellie Lucretia Stufflebeam Decker. She married Tom K. Dunn on Oct. 29, 1945, in Clovis. Mr. Dunn died on Dec. 26, 2002.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia E. Musick of Security, Colo.; and Volores F. Johnson of Snohomish, Wash.; one sister, Polly J. Green of Belen; and six grandchildren, Heather Musick, Jason Musick, Robin Johnson, Lori Kidde, Lesa Borquez and Latricia O’Leary.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Barnes, Ken Hebdon and John Meek.

Ms. Mary Louise Dunn, 84, of Clovis, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at her home.
She was born on March 6, 1919, in Louisville, Ky., to Raymond A. and Katherine Schnebley Welsh.
She was a resident of Clovis since 1991.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Dunn, and her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Mick Dunn (and wife Velma) and Michael Dunn, all of Carlsbad; a daughter, Nancy (and husband Kenny) Goins of Clovis; two brothers, Ray and Frank Welsh, both of Carlsbad; two grandchildren, Brook Dunn of Phoenix and Michael Dunn of Carlsbad.
Burial was at Sunset Gardens in Carlsbad.
