ANTONIA ARMIJO

Mrs. Antonia D. Armijo, 98, of Portales, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
She was born on April 12, 1905, in Villanueva, to Leonarda and Santana Duran.
A few years after she was born she moved to Puerto de Luna near Santa Rosa. Later she moved to Encino where she lived until 1961. In Encino she was married to Zenon Apodoca. The couple had three children before Mr. Apodoca died. In the spring of 1936 she married Luis V. Armijo in Estancia. In 1961 they moved to Portales. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Family members said she was a devoted mother and grandmother, who doted on her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carlos and David Duran; three sisters, Cleo Duran, Manuelita Cordova and Ramona Ortega; two sons, A.D. and Santiago Apodoca; an infant daughter, Stella Apodoca; and by both of her husbands.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Genoveva Sanchez (and husband, John) and Victoria Jaramillo (Claude) all of Portales; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous honorary grandchildren.
Father Tobin Hitt will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Leola “Pat” Askew

Leola “Pat” Askew, 89, of Portales, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1914, in Oklahoma, to Lela and Mendle Phillips.
She attended schools in Granite, Okla., and lived in Mangum, Okla., the Richland Community and Oregon before moving to Dora in 1946. She moved to Golden Acres in Portales in 1983. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Roosevelt General Hospital and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also worked at the Inlow Youth Camp during the summer months. Family members said she enjoyed sewing, crocheting afghans, cooking and making wedding cakes, arranging and growing flowers, singing and camping.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Denver C. Askew; two brothers as small children; and three sisters: Lora Ashby, Christine Marken and one as a child.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanell Simmons of Lorenzo, Texas, Fannie Gresham of Bartlett, Tenn., Lela Victor (and husband, Wayne) of Dora and Kay Allison (Lee) of Roswell; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, M.B. Phillips Jr. (Arlene), of Vancouver, Wash.
The Revs. Bobby Fuller, Steve Smith and Kenneth Dunsworth will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dora.
Pallbearers will be Donald Kirksey, Ryan Allison, Shane Victor, Kirk Victor, Buster Tucker, Tyrel Victor, Blake Victor, Kirk Dean Spears, and Chance Tucker.

Gene Atchley

Mrs. Imogene “Gene” Atchley, 70, of Portales, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born on Aug. 29, 1932, in Cordell, Okla., to Virgie and Dub Dunaway.
She grew up in Cordell. She married Bill Morrison in 1949. They made their home in Liberal, Kan., until 1951, when they moved to San Diego. She moved to Portales in 1968. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Portales Cabinet Shop and later at Jimmy Privett’s Hatchery. In late 1977, she went to work at Allsup’s as a bookkeeper, and retired in 1988. She married Lowell Atchley on March 31, 1981. For 16 years she and her husband delivered newspapers for Albuquerque, Amarillo, Lubbock and Portales. Family members said she loved to read, do crossword puzzles, sew and embroidery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Dunaway; and by her first husband, who died in 1963.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Mike Morrison (and wife, Donna) of Ruidoso and Mark Morrison (Janene) of Rogers, Ark.; two daughters, Peggy Parker (Patrick) and Sally Perez (Charles), all of Portales; two step-daughters, Kathy Malone (Bryan) of Idaho Springs, Colo. and Betty Fox of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Dunaway of Dimmitt, Texas; and a sister, Patsy Bolen of Odessa, Texas.
Gary Jones and Ron Dunaway will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Perez, Bryan Malone, John Gentry, Jimmy Privett, Eugene Lee and Gene Atchley.

Margaret Autrey

Mrs. Margaret Ann Morrison Winn Autrey, 50, of Clovis, a school bus driver, died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Clovis.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1953, in Portales.
She was raised in Ruidoso where she graduated from high school. She married Mack Winn in March of 1972. She married Johnny Ray Autrey in November of 1995.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil James Morrison; her husband, Johnny Ray Autrey; and a brother, Charles Morrison.
Survivors include two sons, Andy (and wife Katie) Winn of North Carolina and Cory (and fiancee Katie) Winn of Texas; two daughters, Cassie and Terra Autrey, both of Clovis; parents, Ed and Mary Jo Hebert of Roswell; a sister, Sherri Corum of El Paso, Texas; a grandson, Dylan Winn of Texas; three stepbrothers, Tommy, Pete and Paul Hebert, all of Roswell; and two stepsisters, Trudy Flett of Roswell and Lisa Wood of Albuquerque.
Lamon Wilson will officiate the services.
Cremation has taken place.

Milton Autrey

Mr. Milton Autrey, 71, of Texico, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.
He was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Mountainair, to Felix and Emlie Egger Autrey.
Mr. Autrey married Betsy Moore on June 16, 1952, in Clovis. He had been a resident of Texico since 1953. He owned and operated his own trucking company. Family members said he loved his daughters and grandchildren. He also loved to raise goats and chickens. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Texico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Phyllis Dawn; three brothers, Thurl, J. C. and F. E. Autrey; two sisters, Lorean Webb and Lucille Heacock.
He is survived by his wife, of Texico; three daughters, Betty Wagner (husband Frank) of Roswell, Connie Benton (husband Larry) of Pinon, and Linda Haile of Lubbock; three brothers, Ralph Autrey and Edward Autrey, both of Texico, and Everett Autrey of Grants; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.

Norene Aye
Norene M. Aye, 75, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at her home in Clovis.
Mrs. Aye was born in Ranchvale on Dec. 3, 1927, to Wilburn David Moore and Lilly Pearl Huggins Moore.
She married Ernest R. Aye on Nov. 2, 1953, at the chapel at Cannon Air Force Base. She was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and VFW Post 3280 Auxiliary. Family members said she liked sports, especially softball and bowling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Buck, Walter and Sam Moore; and one sister, Lorene Moore.
Survivors include her husband of Clovis; a son, Sammy L. Aye of Clovis; and a brother, Jim Moore of Clovis.
Rev. Brad Reeves will officiate services.
Cremation has taken place.

Leroy Bailey

Mr. Leroy Bailey, 71, of Broadview, a farmer/rancher, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born on March 16, 1932, in Bethany, Okla., to Ralph and Letha Coffman Bailey.
He graduated from Grady High School in 1950. He joined the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He married Betty Armstrong on Oct. 28, 1953, in Clovis. After being discharged from the service in 1954 he moved to Broadview. He served on the Grady School Board, the Cowboy Camp Board and the Nazarene Church Camp Board. He was a member of Broadview Church of the Nazarene.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Lugene Lord.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Allen Bailey of Oklahoma City, Hank Bailey (and wife, Sheila) and Steve Bailey (LaRhonda), all of Broadview and Mike Bailey (Vickie) of Las Cruces; a daughter, Lanette Bley (Leroy) of Bethany, Okla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Sanderson of Carthage, Mo. and Avon Krouskop of Grady; a brother, David Bailey of Clovis; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Lucile A. Bailey, 90, of Clovis, a retired bank teller, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.
She was born on March 8, 1913, in Saginaw, Texas, to Pryor and Maud Burton McDaniel.
She was a member of First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lester Trimble; her second husband, Olan Bailey; a sister, Lela Head; and a brother, Secil McDaniel.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Lester Trimble and Joe Bert Trimble (and wife, Rita), all of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Phyllis Perry (Don) of Redwood City, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Rosa Lee Vaughn of Clovis; and a brother, Clinton McDaniel (Ella) of Clovis.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Orville Baker

Mr. Orville Baker, 71, of Clovis, a retired construction foreman, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in Amarillo.
He was born on March 6, 1933, in Little Rock, Ark., to Bill and Hazel Baker.
He served in the Korean War. After returning, he served in the Army Reserves. He married Maurine Peterson on May 14, 1958. Family members said he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and his wife.
Survivors include a daughter, LaVaga “Ann” Annette Baker Morrison (and husband, David) of Clovis; two grandchildren, Chance and Breann Morrison, both of Clovis; and a brother, Harvey Vancleve of Lovington.
Family visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday at 3233 Wallace in Clovis.
Cremation has taken place.

Paula Baker

Paula Baker, 52, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, in Amarillo.
She was born on April 29, 1951, in Amarillo, to Hoyt and Ruth Houck.
She married David Baker on Jan. 1, 1970, in the original chapel of the First Baptist Church in Amarillo. She received a business management degree from Wayland Baptist University. She was employed as the office manager for doctors Kennedy and Stroud. Family members said she was a loving wife, sister and mother. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Kim Baker of Dallas; a son, Michael Baker of Waco, Texas; two sisters, Lisa Stidham of Las Vegas, Nev., and Terri Gleaton of Clovis; and her mother.
Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo.

Eden Jade Baldwin, an infant, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born on May 13, 2003, to Sarai and Michael Baldwin.
She is survived by her parents; her maternal grandfather, Walt Mayne of Portales; her paternal grandparents, Anne and Keith Baldwin of Portales; her great-grandparents, Joan and Stanley Baldwin of Clovis and Addie Adkins of Pampa, Texas; a great great-grandmother, Loren Pruitt of Farwell; four uncles, Jonathan and Matthew Baldwin of Portales, Joe King of Clovis and Chris King of Louisiana; three aunts, Kimberly Mayne and Alice Mayne, both of Portales and Casandra Mayne of Amarillo; numerous great-aunts and great-uncles; and several cousins.

Susanna Banagay

Ms. Susanna Marie Herbeck Banagay, 27, of Clovis, a certified nursing assistant, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Clovis.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1976, in Fort Sumner, to Robert and Yolanda Segura Banagay.
She worked at the Retirement Ranch. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lorenzo and Demetria Segura.
She is survived by two daughters, Kyla Banagay of Clovis and Kourtnie Herbeck of Richland Center, Wis.; her parents; two brothers, Robert Banagay of Albuquerque and Eric Banagay of Clovis; her grandparents, Joe and Clara Olona of Clovis; and a niece, Katrina Banagay.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Clovis.

Eva Banister

Mrs. Eva “Jody” Banister, 55, of Portales, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1947, in Portales, to Hazel and Manuel Vancleve.
She worked as a cook at Cook’s Truck Center in Clovis. She was the child care provider for several nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Family members said she enjoyed trips to Ruidoso with her sister and sister-in-law, she looked forward to holidays and other opportunities for family gatherings, playing Farkle and other games, and doing word puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Helen Haragan.
She is survived by three sons, Lonnie Banister (and wife, Deanna) of Portales and Dusty Morrow (Amy) and Danny Joe Morrow, all of Texico; two daughters, Kathy Banister of Portales and Ruth Price (Todd) of Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey Vancleve of Lovington and Orville Baker of Clovis.

Helen Banks

Mrs. Helen Banks, 67, of Hobbs, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Covenant Health Systems in Lubbock.
She was born on Oct. 10, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Charles David Miles and Edna Berniece Gould.
She was a licensed veterinary technician and a bookkeeper. She was a member and an elder of First Presbyterian Church, secretary for Preceptor Nu Sorority and Sandy Sam’s R.V. Club and a member of the Eastern Star and Nimble Thimbles Quilters.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Hailey; and a son, Stacey Ray Banks.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Mack Banks of Hobbs; two sons, David Reighley of Amarillo and Cliff Reighley of Hobbs; two daughters, Ellen Reighley of Clovis and Sharmon Banks of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two sisters, Rosemary Palmer and Cecilia Allgood, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Bryan, Kimberly and Mackenzie.

Ella Mae Barbee

Ella Mae Barbee, 74, of Portales, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
She was born on April 13, 1930, in Olney Springs, Colo., to Octavia and Frank Betts.
She grew up in Del Norte, Colo., and Portales, where she graduated from Portales High School. She married Glen W. Barbee on Aug. 6, 1948, in Portales. They operated a dairy farm for many years. She spent most of her life as a homemaker. She had been an active member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jack and Charles Betts.
Survivors include her husband, Glen W. Barbee of Portales; her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Fred Nations of Portales; a brother, Frank Betts of Roswell; and two grandchildren, Ace and Jake Nations of Portales.
David Bennett will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
All friends will be honorary pallbearers.

Aurelia Barela
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Mrs. Aurelia L. Barela, 64, of Portales, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at her home.
She was born on July 19, 1938, in DeRamadero, to Manuelita and Tomas Velasquez.
She graduated from Portales High School in 1957. She married Frank H. Barela on June 20, 1964, in Portales. She worked at Selected Casings in Portales, as a housekeeper at a local motel and as a dietary aide at the local hospital, retiring in 1996. Family members said she was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for all the family and making baby blankets and quilts for her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Tomas Velasquez; two sisters, Maria Nestorita and Cora Chavez; and her husband.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolina and Lydia Barela, both of Portales; a special nephew, Arturo Velasquez of Portales; three brothers, Jose Orlando Velasquez of Portales, Rudy Velasquez of San Angelo, Texas, and Frederico Garcia of Encino; six sisters, Gloria Rivero and Rasalee Velasquez, both of Portales, Anna Tarango and Angie Ramirez, both of Lubbock, and Mary Helen Rodriguez and Macedonia Salinas, both of Clovis.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roberto Pena, Arturo, Marcos and Jose Velasquez, Jimmy Duarte, Michael Salinas, Ramon Ramirez and Carlos Rivero.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
A family dinner will be served at the Memorial Building in Portales following the service.
