Gene Gibbs, 70
Gene Gibbs, 70, of Terrell, Texas, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004.
He was born on April 18, 1934, in Parma, Mo.
He served in the Air Force and was a member of Colquitt Road Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Gibbs.
Survivors include his wife, Jo; three sons, Wayne (and wife, Terri), Phillip and Russell Gibbs; a daughter, Gina Turner (Rick); nine grandchildren, Brandon, Amy, Kenneth, Brittany, Dylan, Keri, Dalton and Mayson Gibbs and Ian Turner; and two great-grandchildren, Kinsey and Tristen Gibbs.
Services: 11 a.m. (CDT) today at Colquitt Road Church of Christ in Terrell, Texas. Ralph Williams and Dennis Hogan will officiate the services.
Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Home of Rowlett, Texas.

Eddie Griggs, 62
Eddie Griggs, 62, of Portales, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1942, in Lubbock, to Marvin and Rosa Dixon.
He was a mechanic who worked for Roy Walker. The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff at Heartland Continuing Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Marva Louise Hall and Rosemary Dixon.
Survivors include his mother; two sons, Eddie and Roger Griggs; a daughter, Beverly Griggs; seven brothers, Quincy and Jimmy Griggs, Jack, James, Marvin and Christopher Dixon, and Sonny Adams; three sisters, Linda Howard, Vicki Jones, and Shirley Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis. The Rev. R.L. Smith will officiate the services.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Ruth Price, 82
Ruth E. Price, 82, of Portales, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in Portales.
She was born on June 4, 1922, in Paul’s Valley, Okla., to Nora and ADon “Runt” Daugherty.
She married Bill Price on Feb. 14, 1939, in Clovis. She moved to Portales 2 1/2 years ago to be near her son. She was a resident of the Heartland Continuing Care Center. Family members said she enjoyed reading, following current events, and playing dominos. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Clovis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John A. Daugherty; a grandson, A.J. Price; and her husband.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Don Price (and wife, Joyce) of Portales, Aubrey Price (Karen) of Sun City, Ariz., and Larry Price (Linda) of Brenham, Texas; two daughters, Zada Polk (Shelby) of Atlanta and Stella Ross (Jim) of Waldport, Ore.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty “Mrs. John” Daugherty of Hendersonville, N.C.; numerous nieces, nephews and aunts.
Visitation will be held today and Friday at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.
The family will be receiving visitors from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.
Services are scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at the Community of Christ Church on Llano Estacado in Clovis. The Rev. Glen Livingston will officiate the services.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Russell Knudson Jr.
Russell Knudson Jr., 78, of Portales, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his home.
He was born on May 15, 1926, in Blanket, Texas, to Russell and Thelma Knudson.
He graduated from Farley High School in 1945. He was a bombardier for the U.S. Navy Air Corps and served in the Pacific theater. He returned to the University of New Mexico in 1947 where he met and married Jeanne Scott. He served as the school principal and coach for the Farley New Mexico Schools until 1960. He was a coach and high school principal in the Portales school system. He was the Raton Public School Superintendent from 1972 to 1985.
After his retirement, he attended the University of San Francisco School of Law. He served as the vice president of the New Mexico Activities Association and as director for the University of New Mexico Alumni Association. The New Mexico Senate confirmed him as a member of the Commission for Higher Education and he was a member of the New Mexico Supreme Courts Judicial Performance Evaluation Committee.
He married Wilma Roberts on Dec. 27, 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Julie Bankson; and his first wife.
Survivors include his second wife; two sons, Roger Knudson (and wife, Laura Neack) of Newport, Ky., and Randy Knudson (Laura) of Portales; a son-in-law, Jim Bankson (Mandy) of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four stepsons, Donnie Roberts (Linda) of Clovis, Ron Roberts (Cindy) of Hobbs, Monte Roberts of Rio Rancho and Alan Roberts (Selena) of Portales; eight grandchildren; and 16 step-grandchildren.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ in Portales. David Bennett, Marshall Stinnett and Steve Doerr will officiate the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Eastern New Mexico University Foundation.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

David Kittrell, 48
Mr. David Lynn Kittrell. 48, of Clovis, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at his home.
He was born on March 14, 1956, in Clovis, to T.J. and Ysleta Kittrell.
He lived in the Farwell and Clovis communities all his life, where he farmed with his dad. He married Cary Marsh on Jan. 20, 1978, in Farwell. They made their home in Clovis.
Survivors include his parents; his wife; two daughters, Lindsay Jenkins (and husband, Clyde) of Texico and Kara Kittrell of Portales; a son, Trevor Kittrell of Clovis; a sister, Lisa Furlow (Steve) of Brownfield, Texas; a grandson, Mason Jenkins; a mother-in-law, Sarah Guenther of Bastrop, Texas; a father-in-law, Glenn Marsh (Donna) of Albuquerque; two sisters-in-law, Kim Wheeler (Mike) and Marla Stewart (Scott), all of Bastrop, Texas; nieces and nephews, Ondria Bartholomeo, Jordan Cochran and Cory, Zachary, Cody and Stephanie Stewart; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell. The Rev. Rob Hollis will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Elvin Walker, 91
Mr. Elvin Walker, 91, of Denton, Texas, formerly of Rogers, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, in Denton, Texas.
He was born on July 14, 1913, in Red Lake, to Launa and Ellis Walker.
He was raised in Phoenix and graduated from Rogers High School in Rogers. He married Johnie Holland on Sept. 15, 1934. They made their home in the Rogers community for 65 years. He was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Rogers and the Dora Baptist Church.
After retiring from farming, he became known as “The Clock Man” for his ability to keep everyone’s old clocks striking on time, family members said.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Walker; a sister, Juanita Turner; an infant son, Jimmy Gayle Walker; and by his wife.
Survivors include three sons, Ken Walker (and wife, Peggy), Tommy Walker (Tammy), all of Denton, Texas, and Barry Walker (Becky) of Portales; six grandchildren: Theresa Walker of Spring Valley, Calif., Chris Walker of Hemet, Calif., Bruce Walker of Denton, Texas, Shawn Martin of Denton, Texas, Melissa Lamb of Portales and Brian Walker of Logan, Utah; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Walker of Vera Cruz, Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Joel Horne will officiate the services.
Music will be provided by Terrill and Chloe Mitchell, Deborah Hargrove, Arlene Andersen and the great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dora Baptist Church. Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.
Pallbearers are Gene Massey, Rodney Thetford, Chester Harth, John Mohon, Mickey Hargrove, Mack Brown, Bobby Gresham and Dennis Tollett.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Allen Cunningham, 52
Allen Ray Cunningham, 52, of Tatum, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Nor Lea General Hospital in Lovington.
He was born on July 16, 1952, in Farmington, to James and Rose Cunningham.
He married Carla Reeves on April 9, 1976, in Portales. He was a member of Living Water Church in Tatum.
He was preceded in death by his mother; a son, Jeffery Cunningham; and two brothers, James and Leslie Cunningham.
Survivors include his father; his wife; a son, Matt Cunningham of Tatum; a daughter, Alison Stevens of Capitan; two sisters, Sandy Goodart of Lake Arthur and Barbie Wall of Albuquerque; and six grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Living Water Church of Tatum. The Rev. James Robbins will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Tatum Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home of Lovington.

Doris Carpenter, 72
Doris Carpenter, 72, of Portales, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born on May 22, 1932, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Dorothy and Everett Boggs.
She lived in Grand Rapids, Mich., until the age of 15 when her family moved to Wayland, Mich. She married Verne Carpenter on June 26, 1951, in Archibald, Ohio. The couple moved to Portales in 1975. He was a 4-H leader and active in the PTA while her children were in school. She was also involved in the Portales High School band boosters cub.
Family members said she was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, cooking, bowling, scrapbooking and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Everett Jr. and Dennis Boggs.
Survivors include her husband; a son, David Carpenter of Carbondale, Colo.; five daughters, Nancy Nutt of Grand Rapids, Mich., Barbara Roybal (and husband, Larry) of Santa Fe, Diane Baca (Eddie) of Portales, Deborah Carpenter of Roswell and Dannette Lucero (Bennie) of Rockport, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Ferguson of Federal Heights, Colo.
Father Tobin Hitt will officiate the services.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Steve Williams, 46
Steve Williams, 46, formerly of Portales, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Southern Specialty Health Care in Lubbock.
He was born on July 9, 1958, in Lubbock, to Joy and Charles T. Williams.
He grew up in Irving, Texas, where he graduated from McArthur High School in 1978. He and his mother moved to Portales in 1992. While living in Portales, he helped his cousin Cliff Neece on the farm. He was a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ. Family members said he enjoyed fishing and attending rodeos.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother of Abilene, Texas; two brothers, Wayne Williams (and wife, Cindy) of Abilene, and Dave Williams of Knoxville, Tenn.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. David Bennett will officiate the services.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. (CDT) Friday at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bill, Cliff and Matt Neece, Jerry Partin, Doug Crozier and Jim Chandler.
Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Frank Stokes, Curtis Breshears, Delbert Rector and Johnny Lieb.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Sally Wall, 81
Sally B. Wall, 81, of Portales, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1923, in Richmond, Ark., to Will and Elizabeth Thomas. She moved to Clovis in 1953. She was a nurse’s aide and a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church. Family members said she loved going to church, crocheting and crafting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis J. Wall; and two brothers, Albert and Charlie Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Wall (and wife, Paula) of Alamogordo and Brent Wall of Hobbs; two daughters, Elaine Higgins of Portales and Rhonda Malott (Zach) of Capitan; three sisters, Mabel Rynders and Jane Morrison, both of Malvern, Ark., and Daisy Carter of Duncan, Okla.; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis. The Rev. Lemuel Perry will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell.
Pallbearers are Jerry, D. L. and Shorty Carter, Zach Malott, Torrey Hukill and Kerre Petree.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Warren Armstrong, 70
Warren Armstrong, 70, of Ketchum, Okla., died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at his home.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1933, in Tidioute, Pa., to Mead and Mary Armstrong.
He married Joan Gregory on April 19, 1974, in Minneapolis. He received a bachelor’s degree from the Baptist College and Seminary in Pennsylvania, a master’s degree and a doctorate from the University of Michigan and Holy Orders from the Diocese of Oklahoma. He president and professor at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan., from 1983 until 1993; president and professor at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales from 1975 until 1983; dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor at St. Cloud State University from 1970 until 1975; associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of history at University of Wisconsin in Whitewater, Wis., from 1965 until 1970; assistant and associate professor of history at Olivet College in Michigan from 1961 until 1965; and pastor for West Bainbridge Baptist Church in New York from 1954 until 1956.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Linda Armstrong, Heidi Neis (and husband, Dino), Susan Sohlo (Brad), and Pamela Lawrence (Phil); a son, Jack Fitzsimmons (Laura); nine grandchildren, Amanda and Matt Neis, Travis, Jack, Katie and Tyler Fitzsimmons, Madeline, Huston, and Maizie Lawrence.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. (CDT) at All Saints Episcopal Church in Miami, Okla. Robert Moody and Father Noel Doherty will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Hendersonville Cemetery in Mercer, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the All Saints Episcopal Church of Miami, Okla., Wichita State University or Eastern New Mexico University.

Gladys Ferguson, 80
Gladys Ferguson, 80, of Portales, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Odessa Medical Center in Odessa, Texas.
She was born on Jan. 3, 1924, in Lorain, Ohio, to Arelia and Charles Zimmerman.
She grew up in Lorain. She married John Ferguson on March 26, 1941, in Bay City, Ill. They moved to Portales in 1947. Family members said she was a devoted wife and mother, enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, and seemed able to make anything grow, including African Violets by the hundreds. She attended the University Baptist Church in Portales. She moved to Odessa about two years ago to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elmer and Floyd Zimmerman; three sisters, Edna Epstein, Lois Fortman and Eleanor Williams; a daughter, Sue Ferguson; a son, David Ferguson; a grandson, Randal Ferguson; and her husband, John D. Ferguson.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Ferguson (and wife, Sharon) of Roswell and Dan Ferguson (Rhonda) of Odessa; a daughter-in-law, Leadell “Mrs. David” Ferguson of Lubbock; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Terry Tamplin will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Joe Grandbury, Jeremy Ferguson, Cody Doran, Mike Richardson, Bill Brown and Rick Vickery.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Daniel Boone, 49
Daniel “Dan” Scott Boone, 49, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Princeton Place in Albuquerque.
He was born on April 17, 1955, in Portales, to Mary Lynne and Fred Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include a son, Zeke Boone; two daughters, Kathryn and Mary Lynn Boone; a sister, Marietta Kelt (and husband, Keith) of Monte Cito, Calif.; a niece, Whitney Kelt; and a nephew, Landon Keith Kelt Jr.
No public service will be held. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Dorothy Zahn, 72
Dorothy Zahn, 72, of Portales, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
She was born on April 11, 1932, in Causey, to Lillie Mae and William A. Chambers.
She attended a small country school in Chaves and in Roswell before the family moved to Portales in the early 1940s. She married Richard Zahn on Jan. 30, 1949. Family members said she helped sack peanuts in the snow one January, was an avid dancer, and loved fishing. They also said she sponsored every band trip or skating competition when her daughters were in school. She was a past president and member of the Eagles Auxiliary 3245 in Clovis and she traveled to the national convention for her chapter. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gene and Curtis Chambers; a sister, Margaret Mills; and a daughter, Connie Zahn.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Craig Zahn (and wife, Sue) of Newark, N.Y.; a daughter, Debbie Welch (Jim) of Portales; three grandchildren, Linda Payne (Guy) of Animas, Misty Zahn of Hobbs and Sacha Pogue (John) of Baker City, Ore.; and five great-grandchildren, Talon and Bricie Payne, Tehana and Kay-Lee and Tristian Pogue.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
A memorial ritual by the Eagles Ladies’ Auxiliary of Clovis will follow.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bill and John Welch, Joe Buckley, Derrel Stroud, Fred Pergeson and Don Doak.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
