John Charles Evans
Sept. 12, 1961 — Feb. 15, 2007
Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend John Charles Evans left us to join his Father in heaven on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007.
We were blessed to have loved, cherished and enjoyed him for 45 years. Now, after a sudden illness while vacationing in Cancun, Mexico, he passed away in San Antonio, Texas, and we lovingly relinquish him to his celestial life for all time and eternity.
John was born to Bob and Mary Evans in Albuquerque. He was the youngest of four children.
After losing his father at a young age, John, his brothers and sister were raised by a courageous and devoted mother, Mary, who instilled strong Christian beliefs, the importance of family and inspired his love of sports.
John was also influenced by the love of his grandparents and many uncles and aunts, which helped him to grow into the man that he was.
After a long courtship, John married Darla Schaffer on Oct. 5, 1991. Because of that marriage, John gained the love and respect of Darla's family. John and Darla were blessed with three beautiful sons, Tyler Edward, Carson Riley, and Luke Alexander.
Even at their young age, John has given his sons a solid foundation for the love of God, family, sports, the value of friendship, and — of course — an obsession with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Even though John did not have a formal education, he was a very self-motivated, enthusiastic and successful businessman. He began his career in Farmington at Summit Electric Supply. He later moved to Border States Electric Supply.
John also ventured into business with Gators Bar & Grill and Real Estate Development. Throughout his diversified career he has touched so many lives with his wisdom, advice, motivation and humor. He was never afraid to try new things.
John's spirit endures with his wife, Darla, and children, Tyler, Carson and Luke. He will also be missed by his mother, Mary; brother, Bob and wife, Lisa; brother, Billy; sister, Kathy and husband, Martin Solum; father and mother in-law, Frank and Carolyn Schaffer; and brother in-law, Dennis and wife, Tamara Holland — all of whom are from Farmington. He will also be missed by sister in-law, Diana Schaffer of Austin, Texas.
He inspired his nieces and nephews: Robbie, and girlfriend, Ashley Clark; Andy and girlfriend, Ashley Gee; Christina Evans; Justin and Melissa Holland; Amy and boyfriend, David Rascon; Nick Holland; and Mackenzie and Grant Schaffer-McDonald.
John would not allow us to omit recognizing Jim Varnell and Sandra Davis, with their children Eric, Samantha, Kyle, and Kacey, and the other many close friends that he considered family.
John was also grateful for his numerous uncles, aunts and cousins who enriched his life.
John was greeted in heaven by his father, Robert Earl Evans, and his grandparents, Onesimo and Sofia Vigil.
Friends may visit with John at 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Cope Memorial Chapel. Then please join us for a celebration of John's life with his friends and family at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at Piñon Hills Community Church, 2400 N. Butler in Farmington. Cremation will follow.
His pallbearers will include Frank Schaffer, Bob Evans, Bill Evans, Dennis Holland, Jim Varnell, Justin Holland, Robbie Evans, Andy Evans, Nick Holland, Greg Schumacher, Mark Jones, and Neil Krueger.
Honorary pallbearers will be all his friends, co-workers and business associates.
A John Evans Memorial Fund has been established to benefit local children's organizations. Contributions can be made at Four Corners Community Bank or by contacting Sheila Mobley at (505) 320-3310.
John continues to enrich and touch all of our lives and the lives of so many others with love, generosity, and fun beyond our expectation or imagination.
We love you.
The Evans Family — Darla, Tyler, Carson, and Luke.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington, (505) 327-5142.
