William "Bill" W. Phebus, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1930 died Thursday, August 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Darlene A Phebus of Albuquerque; daughter, Sharon Wagner and husband, Robert of Rio Rancho, and Sheila Wilhemi and husband, Lenard of Conchas Dam, NM; grandchildren, Carrie Lagomarsino and husband, Peter, Carla Jo McBurney and Rhonda Goss and husband, Don; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Lagomarsino, Samual, Xiao and Joseph McBurney, Zachary Calhoon, Joshua and Jacqueline Goss. Mr. Phebus served overseas with the 200th Coast Artilery. He was on the Bataan death march and was a POW from 1942-1945 in Manchuria. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1964. Mary Sutton Smith passed away on August 2, 2000 in Albuquerque, following a short illness. She was born August 11, 1909 in Seneca, Missouri to Smith Alexander Sutton and Martha Reneer Sutton. She married Wilbur Earl Smith Jr. in July, 1928. He preceded her in death in 1959. There were three children of this marriage, Martha Smith of Conroe, TX, Wilbur E. Smith III and wife, Kaye of LaPorte, TX, and Michael S. Smith of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Lisa Leming of Tomball, TX, Linda Rampy and husband, Ty of Calvert, TX, and Corey Jason Smith of Ft. Meade, MD; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Ty Evans Rampy of Calvert, TX and Mari Margaret Leming of Tomball, TX; one nephew, Paul William Matthews and wife, Rita of Oklahoma City, OK. Mary had one sister, Bernice Sutton Matthews Brady of Seneca, Missouri, who preceded her in death. There will be cremation with a memorial service at a later date.
Glenn W. Stuckey, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Thursday, August 3, 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Glenna L. Stuckey of Los Lunas; grandson, Matthew Adam Stuckey of Los Lunas; granddaughter, Kelly S. Greve of Edgewood; four great-grandchildren, Robert, Jennifer, Jillian and Bradley, all of Edgewood; sister, Pauline M. Baker of Troy, MO; numerous friends including special friends, Betty N. Ostrom, Dave and Lou Royster, Robert F. Harrison, Jim Brister and Colvin Futrell, all of Albuquerque. Mr. Stuckey was preceded in death by his son, Glenn Stephen Stuckey in 1978. Mr. Stuckey retired from the Armed Forces after 22 years of service. Fourteen of his years were at Kirtland Air Force Base. He was a life member of the Air Force Association, the Air Force Sergeants Association, a charter member of the Non-Commissioned Officers of America, the Amvets, American Legion Post 75 in Jemez Springs, NM, the National Association of Atomic War Veterans, the National Rifle Association, and the New Mexico Shooting Sports Association. Dr. Amy Bartholomew, 41, died Saturday August 3, 2001 after a hard three year battle with leukemia. Amy is survived by the love of her life, her friend and partner of the residence, Dr. Mitchell Levick; her daughters, Anelli, Charlotte, and Indie Rice, ages 12, 10, and 6; her stepsons, Nathan and Jordan Levick, ages 13 and 11; her mother Bernice Bartholomew; and her five siblings and their families, Jane and husband Ian Weir and their children Melissa Corrigan, Gregory and Michael, John and his son Matthew, Joe and his wife Christie Slye and their daughter Eve Wentworth, Shelley and husband Michael Treadway and their sone Peter, Melissa and husband John Tanner and their sons John and Ryan. She was preceded in death by her father Howard C. Bartholomew. Amy was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree from Austin College and her M.D. from the University of Texas, San Antonio. Beyond her devotion to friends, family, and loved ones, her pride and passion was her work as a psychiatrist. She shared a mutually strong devotion to her family, and her children nourished her continually through her illness. Her influence upon all she knew and loved was that of a devout gardener and the blossoms of her garden will be perpetually in bloom. An angel has left the earth. Kary (K.C) Bergevin, 44, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 5, 2001. Kary is the beloved husband of 24 years to Jeanie Bergevin. Samuel R. Carter, New Mexico native and lifelong resident passed away August 4, 2001 at the age of 76. Sam was born in Carlsbad. New Mexico on May 19, 1925. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Sam was a hot air balloon pilot and a member of numerous hot air ballooning clubs, including the Balloon Federation of America. He was deeply and directly involved in the early days of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. He was a real estate broker, an inventor, and a miner in his own mines. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert Carter and Fabian Carter and a sister, Betty Carter Duffy. He is survived by a daughter, Gerri McArdle of Salt Lake City, UT, a son Russell Carter also of Salt Lake City, grandchildren Chris, Jenny, Shane, Gail and Randy, sister Ann Carter Cahill, cousins Ann White Stockdill, husband John, Melinda White Itoh, husband William, George W. White, wife Naida, John K. White, wife Helena and numerous second and third cousins, all who loved him dearly. Sam was an eternal optimist and a free spirit, someone who was truly happy. He never met a stranger, and the friends and family he left behind will sorely miss him and his generous nature. Joe O. Chavez, 64 beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to with the Lord Sunday, August 5, 2001. Joe was born in Albuquerque to the late Guadalupe and Irene Chavez. He was preceded in death by his son, Henry Hunick; his daughter-in-law Roseann Hunick; granddaughter, Melinda Hunick; and brother Frank Chavez. Joe is survived by his loving wife Beulah Chavez of the family home; a daughter, Rosie Tafoya of Albuquerque; five precious grandchildren, Ray, Irene, and Yolanda Maestas, Melanie and Eric Hunick; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Esther Delfin and husband Eppie of Sacramento, CA, Mabel Sprunk and husband Joe, Sr. of Albuquerque; one brother John Chavez, and wife Yolanda of Sacremento CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Donald Coleman, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2001. He was the son of Bessie Mae Coleman and Frank J. Coleman. He was born on May 20, 1917. Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Claire; grandson, Joseph L. Coleman; daughter-in-law, Rose Ann Coleman; brother-in-law, John S. Hasling; sister-in-law, Arlene Hasling; three nephews; and two grand-nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog, "Huck." Don was preceded in death by his son, Robert J. Coleman. Donald J. Trinnie Cordova, 85, a resident of Belen, peacefully passed away at St. Joseph Hospice unit surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 31,2001. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and a member of the Spanish Choir for many years. Trinnie had many accomplishments besides raising her nine children. She graduated from Beauty School, and went back to school and received her High School Diploma (which was very important to her.) She retired as Head Cook for the Belen Junior High School after ten years of dedicated service. She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel R. Cordova in 1980; her son, Raymond Cordova in 1964; and her grand daughter Ericka Judson. Edith St. John Davalos passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque on Saturday, August 4, 2001. She was born in San Marcial, NM, moving to Albuquerque with her parents as a young girl. She is survived by a brother, John J. Gonzales of California; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and a very special dear friend, Felipe Hernandez. A special thanks to the hospice group headed by Anne Letherer, and also Doris Eichel and her devoted group (Sharon, Christy and Rozina) that were a great help to Edith, especially the last few months. Ed Frinkman, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, passed away at home on August 2, 2001. Ed is survived by his four children, Erin O'Neil and husband, Jack, of Sandia Park, NM; Jay Frinkman and wife, Lourdes, of Albuquerque; Evan Jellesma and husband, Mike, of Scottsdale, AZ; and Tim Frinkman of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Eric Richstad, of Vancouver, WA; his former wife, Maryo; and two grandchildren, Thomas and Lauren Frinkman. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, John and Molly Frinkman, and brother Tom Frinkman of Vancouver, WA. Ed served in the Navy and graduated from the University of Washington in 1958. He began his career with Boeing in Seattle. He worked for EG&G in Las Vegas, Nevada and in 1964 became one of the original staff members of the EG&G office in Albuquerque. Later Ed worked for Ross Aviation in Albuquerque, from which he retired in 1991. Ed enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Huskies, and liked to travel to their games. He had many friends at the American Legion Post 49, VFW Post 401 & Moose Lodge. Rudy R. Gonzales, passed away on Saturday August 4, 2001. He was born in Colonias, N.M. on January 21, 1932. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served two years in Korea where he had the distinction of reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant in under two years, then a record. Upon his discharge, he and his parents, Leonard and Mela M. Gonzales purchased and managed Dee's Bar in Santa Rosa for five years. He then attended the University of New Mexico for 2 years after which he transferred to New Mexico Highlands where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1961 followed by a masters degree from the American Institute for foreign trade, Phoenix, Arizona. His employment as International Sale Manager with Emerson Electric gave him the opportunity of traveling to many foreign countries, from the Middle East, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Europe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonardo and Mela Gonzales; two sisters, Pita (Rita) Urban of Artesia, N.M. and Angie Dunn of Indiana; two brothers, Anthony Gonzales of Las Cruces, N.M. and Johnny Gonzales of Santa Rosa, N.M.; 3 nephews, Steven, Ernest, and Gene Gonzales; and a niece, Ida Aguilar. He is survived by two brothers, Leonard Gonzales of Santa Rosa, and Gene Gonzales of Espanola. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August, 8 2001 at 12:30 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. David H. Goodmann, 79, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away at Lovelace Medical Center on Saturday August 4, 2001 of cancer. David was born in Dubuque, Iowa to parents Dominic and Mary Goodmann. He served in the Army WWII in the European Theater. In 1951 he married Jean Faha and they moved to Albuquerque in 1953. Dave was involved in the real estate development of the North East heights and also worked for Sproul and Horizon corporations. He moved to Arizona in the 70's before returning to Alb. In the 80's where he made his final home. Dave worked for Melloy Datsun and Ken Johns car dealerships where he was a top salesman receiving many awards and was known for his integrity. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening and the company of friends at the Solo Club. Dave was preceded in death by his first wife Jeanne, Mother, Father, sister Evie Hankins, and brother Dan Goodmann. He is survived by son Drew Goodmann and wife Loretta of Alb., daughter Amy Goodhue and husband John of Maple Grove, MN, former wife Helen Conlon, brother Dominic Goodmann, sisters; Babe Shimp, and Rosie Goodmann, and six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss him deeply. Fermin Guiterrez joined our Lord on Sunday, August 05, 2001 at the young age of 24. He was a resident of Belen and a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Fermin attended Belen High School. He loved the outdoors and never missed a chance to go hunting and fishing. He also played football and was a wrestler. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Fidel P. Silva; his maternal great-grandparents, Juan U. and Vivian Montoya; his paternal great-grandparents, Gregorio and Eduvijen Gutierrez and his loving cousin Monica Montoya. James Clifford Wills Haversett, 81, died Saturday, July 28, 2001. He was a native of Pennsylvania and became a lifelong resident of N.M. Jim requested no services and will be laid to rest in Pennsylvania. Children, grandchildren, and beloved cats survive him. "JC" was a veteran and a civil engineer. He assisted in construction of the downtown Public Library and the Museum of Natural History. He was a member of the Albuquerque Sister Cities Foundation and of New Mexico Animal Friends. Mrs. Ligouri was a charter member of Holy Ghost Church. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona St SE, with Father Tom Mayefske, Celebrant. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Jack Linebarger, 81, of Albuquerque, died in his home on Sunday, August 5, 2001. He is survived by his children, Jackie and Lawrence Smith, Toni Linebarger, Linda Tiley, Laurie Maestas and her husband, Rudy; 11 grandchildren, Dusty, Heather, Aron, Rick, Melanie, Gabe, Micah, Pat, Sara, Michael and Shelley; 9 great-grandchildren, Brad, Ryan, Jordan, Jensen, Richard, Michael, Dylan, Jason and Billy; sisters, Edna Mae Holmes and Norma Jean Walker and husband, Bill; and much loved nieces and nephews. Mr. Linebarger was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Jesse. He was born October 3, 1919 in the town of Quanah, TX to Jacob Sherman Linebarger and Lola Elizabeth Rockholt. He was raised in Servielleta, NM. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was stationed in Hawaii. On October 22, 1939 he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Sawyer in Taos, NM. They were married for 31 years and lived in Albuquerque for 47 years. He worked road construction for many years, helping to build many of New Mexico's roads and also helped build Cochiti Dam. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. This beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather lived a much too simple life and gave up many basic comforts to help his family. "Dad, we're so glad that we didn't have a politically correct dad. We had a dad with an attitude! You're going to bless heaven with your kind, beautiful soul and the most glorious garden the angels have ever seen ". Services will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Deacon Manuel Montoya officiating. Cremation will follow services. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. until service.
