Maria M. Baldonado

Maria was 47 yrs. old. She was born in Grants, NM, and was the mother of four children and daughter to Margarita Martinez and Cleto Griego. She had five brothers; and four sisters. She had been married and divorced twice. Maria was a survivor of A-plastic Anemia since 1999. While waiting for a bone marrow donor, she was hospitalized several times, and was dependent on blood transfusions for life during these past four years. She became very ill with a bacteria infection that was unable to be controlled. Maria always had a lot of faith in the Lord and during the time of her illness, she also had very good doctors, family and friends to be by her side. Maria always brought a frown to a smile and a cry to laughter. She was greatly respected and loved. Maria will always be in our hearts and thoughts forever.
Charles Robert Barncord, 83, a resident of Albuquerque for over 40 years, passed away May 22, 2003 after a valiant struggle with cancer. Marguerite Barncord, his loving wife of 57 years, passed away February 2, 1999. He is survived by his son, Gary Barncord and wife, Dolores of Minden, NE; his daughter, Linda Barncord and husband, Frank Geick of Emerald Hills, CA; his granddaughters, Kenneta Kraemer of Aurora, CO, and Inde Barncord Wissing and husband, Chris of Kearney, NE; his great-granddaughter, Lacy Kraemer of Aurora, CO; and sister, Norma Owen and husband, Jack of Sun Lakes, AZ. Charles "Bob" married Marguerite October 1941 in Whitewater, KS. After the outbreak of WWII, Bob entered the Army and studied engineering at Ohio State University. In 1944, they moved to Los Alamos when Bob was selected to work on the Manhattan Project and where Marguerite served as a registered nurse. After the war concluded, Bob completed his ME degree in May 1949 at the University of New Mexico, while continuing to work for University of CA on Sandia Base. In November 1949, he joined Sandia National Laboratory where he worked in Albuquerque, NM and Livermore, CA until his retirement as Controller, in May 1982. Bob and Marguerite traveled extensively after his retirement and were active members of the Monte Vista Christian Church. Cremation has taken place and Bob was laid to rest with his beloved wife, Marguerite at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2003, 1:30 p.m. at the Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, with Reverends Fred Dorisse and Michelle Tatlock officiating. Robert Gene Birrell, Sr., 77, a native and lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003. Mr. Birrell is survived by his wife of 55 years Violet Sissy Birrell of Albuquerque; son, Gene Birrell and wife, Dianna; daughter, Sandy Smith and husband, Carl; Nancy Cox and husband, Robbie; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Brian, Diana, Chad, Ashley, Victoria, and Lane, who knew him as Papa Bear. Mr. Birrell served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Gene worked for Sandia National Laboratories and Gulton Industries & Jet Electronics. Mr. Birrell started his own Electronics business in Albuquerque. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and enjoyed restoring vintage cars. John J. Bornholdt, age 67, a resident of Albuquerque for 29 years passed away June 24, 2003. Survivors include his sons, Bruce J. Bornholdt and wife, Becky of Mason City, IA, Robert M. Bornholdt of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Robert and Tommy Bornholdt of IA, Ryan Bornholdt of Albuquerque. John was retired as Sgt. First Class from the U.S. Army and as an Engineer from Sandia Nat'l Labs after 13 years of service. Melissa Dawn Bradley, 21, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away June 22, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Cody Bradley; her children, Christina and Christopher Bradley; parents, Sue and Dave Fisher of Edgewood; brothers, Matt, Ryan and David Fisher; her in-laws, Omar and Doris Bradley; brother-in-law, Joseph Strong; sister-in-law, Erica Bradley; and numerous other family members and friends. Melissa loved so many things in her life, anyone having the opportunity of sharing part of her life found it impossible not to love her. Rev. Warren Davenport. On June 24, 2003 at 7:20 p.m., a host of angels escorted Rev. Warren Davenport into the waiting arms of Jesus. He is survived by his wife, Mary Winter Davenport of Albuquerque; sons, Ernie Davenport and wife, Barbara of Richardson, TX, Robert Davenport and wife, Carmen of Los Angeles, CA, and Rev. Doug Davenport and wife, Linda of Kirksville, MO; daughters, Diane W. Davenport retired after 60 years as pastor of Assembly of God Churches. He loved to be involved in building churches and in missionary work as an evangelist. Bernice K. Duke, 92, died Monday, June 23, 2003. She is survived by her granddaughters, Ann Cassel Cairns, and Susan Cassel both of CA, Elizabeth Duke Landry of Bayfield, CO; grandson, John Cassel of Huntington Beach, CA; five great-grandchildren, Christine Cassel, Zachary Landry, Grace Landry, Allison and Alexandra Cairns; and four great-great- grandchildren. Mrs. Duke was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Duke; two sons, James R. Cassel and J. Michael Duke; grandson, Matthew Cassel. She was a member of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, and the Nora Mitchell McDowell Chapter (United Daughters of the Confederacy). Mrs. Duke was a former member of numerous civic, business and professional organizations. Bennie L. Gallegos, 80, passed away on June 24, 2003. She was born on December 22, 1922 in New Mexico. Mrs. Gallegos is survived by her husband, Jose Gallegos; sons, Richard Gallegos and wife, Shirley and Ron A. Cluster Gutenberg Gouch, age 70, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years died June 25, 2003. Survivors include his sons, Justin Gouch of Albuquerque, Donald Gouch and wife Heather of Albuquerque, Glenn Gouch and wife, Kimberly of Chandler, AZ and Marvin Gouch of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Alex, Britton, Mariah, Renee and Kalin. Cluster is preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mary Gouch in 1996 and son, Michael Gouch in 1959. He retired from the Air Force in 1976 and was a member of the DAV, Vietnam Veterans and AARP. Edith Louise "Edie" Johnson, a resident of Albuquerque since March 15, 1945, died on June 17, 2003. She is survived by Otis (Butch) Johnson, her husband since October 17, 1942. "Edie" was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1956, was active in "Hoe Downers" landscaping, volunteered as an office assistant and helped with mailings, and was originator of "SMILES" (Seniors Meeting In Luncheon Entertainment Socials) started in 1993. She worked as a secretary at Albuquerque Country Club for 20 years and with UNM for 15 years. She also worked parttime at May's Music selling Hammond Chord Organs. "Edie" loved to travel and take pictures. She and her husband, Otis, gave travel lectures and slide shows for over 30 years. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road NE, with Reverend Patricia Holman officiating. Antonio "Tony" Lucero 92, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003. Luther Frank Martinez, Jr., 64, a resident of Albuquerque since 1994, passed away on June 24, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Alice Martinez of Albuquerque; four sons, Michael Moore and wife, Lenore of Albuquerque, Randy Martinez of Davis, CA, Jason Martinez and wife, Trisha of Portland, OR, and David Jones and wife, Lorie of Evansville, IN; a daughter, Terri Jones of Lake Havasu, AZ; mother, C. Lily Martinez of Albuquerque; three brothers, Vern Martinez of Denver, CO, Leroy Martinez of Mission Viejo, CA and Lemuel Martinez of Albuquerque; one sister, Linda Alvarado of Denver, CO. Luther is also survived by ten grandchildren. He was a member of Family Worship Center. Mr. Martinez was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was a member of the Navy Wrestling Team and was an alternate in the 1964 Olympic Games in Japan. Also while in the Navy, he won a position as First Trumpet in the Naval Dance Band. Later, Mr. Martinez coached and officiated high school wrestling.
