Frank E. Gray passed away in Las Cruces, June 25, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Elephant Butte, NM; two sons, Ronald Gray and wife, Sharon of Dover, NJ and George Gray, RPh and wife, Esther of Las Cruces; and a daughter, Annelle Hand and husband, Daryl of Las Cruces; Helen's son, Jim Bundy and wife, Christine; and Helen's daughter, Yvonne DeWalt and husband, David of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jeff Gray, Tim and James Hand, Francine Gray, Lisa Maynes and husband, Demos of Albuquerque, Denise Gastellum and husband, Phil; two great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances (McCan) Gray. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was an electrical engineering graduate of NMSU. He worked for PNM in Albuquerque and Santa Fe from 1957 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Monte Vista Christian Church. He gave of his time to many organizations such as the Masonic Lodge, Lion's Club, Elk's Club, Moose Lodge, American Legion and the VFW Post 1389 in Elephant Butte. After retiring, he and his wife, Helen moved to Elephant Butte. He was associated with so many wonderful people there that he and his wife, Helen enjoyed their retirement with great contentment. Ab Hendley, 77, a longtime De Baca County rancher died Monday, June 24, 2002 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX following an illness. Ab was born November 28, 1924 in House, NM to the home of Andrew Albert Hendley and the former Ella Mae Franklin. He was reared and attended school and graduated from House High School. Ab served in the U.S. Navy from June 21, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 19, 1946 as Seaman First Class, Gunner's Mate. He served on the USS Fancy and included a tour of duty in the Asiatic Pacific Area. Ab married Ruth Lowman on May 29, 1949 at the Church of Christ in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Ab returned to De Baca County where he and Ruth worked on area ranches for many years and according to Ruth they were employed by many fine people over the years. Ab was a member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ; Mount Moriah Lodge #54 AF&AM; and Santa Fe Scottish Rite. Ab served on the Borden County School Board in Gail, TX and as a director for the American Junior Rodeo Association. He enjoyed working cattle, gardening, rodeos, loved to read, and visiting with his friends at Sprout's Café. Ab loved his family, his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Ab was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Guyla Mae Parker and Mary Ann Haskew. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ruth Hendley of the home in Fort Sumner; four sons, Ab Hendley Jr. and wife, Deb of Friona, TX; Rick Hendley and wife, Cam of Rocksprings, TX; Roy Don Hendley and wife, Carole of Lubbock, TX and Scott Hendley of Abilene, TX; two half-sisters, Ramona Wall of Roswell, NM and Bobbie Brown of Phoenix, AZ; an uncle, Bert Franklin of House, NM and an aunt, Ruby Wallace of Alamogordo, NM; seven grandchildren, Roy Tate Hendley and wife, Katie of Lubbock, TX; Sarah Hendley of Lubbock, TX; Glynn Hendley and wife, Paige of Rocksprings, TX; Shay Hendley and Sloan Hendley of Abilene, TX; Christie Hendley and Kimberly Hendley of Lubbock, TX. Ruth R. Herrera, 68, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 25, 2002 peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family. Danny H. (Daniel) Jaramillo, 43, a lifelong resident of Bernalillo, NM, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Danny was employed by the Town of Bernalillo, and will be missed by his co-workers. He enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, playing video games, and was an avid wrestling and Lobo fan. Lee Francis Keller joined his deceased loved ones in heaven on June 24, 2002. He was a resident of Rio Rancho for the past eight years. Lee was born April 29, 1925 the son of Tony and Elizabeth Yager Keller in Devils Lake, North Dakota. Lee served in the US Coast Guard during WW II, was a member of the American Legion Post 0099, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus - Assembly 1905; was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where he ushered for several years; he had held membership in the International Assn. of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Union Local 433 for 30 years. He worked many years as a Certified structural welder until a work related accident required a change in occupation. He attended schools to qualify as a Safety Engineer and worked in that capacity for many years. He last worked as a Site Safety Manager with the CDK Contracting Company, a subcontractor for Intel in its plant expansion during 1995-96. He retired from that position due to ill health. Lee's favorite pastime was ballroom dancing, and he loved to waltz, jitterbug, and any other dancing. Often bragged about being able to dance with two dance partners at one time. Lee had been a resident at the Rio Rancho Nursing Center since March of 2001 where he received excellent care from the entire staff, especially from his primary nurses, "Jackie" and "Jeri ". Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Elizabeth; sister, Dorothy; grandson, Kyle Keller; nephew, Michael Keller; great-nephew, Jason Chavez-Keller; grandparents and aunts and uncles. Ken M. Latimer, "Mack ", age 82, was born January 10, 1920 and died in his sleep June 20, 2002 after a long illness. He will be remembered as a vibrant and lively man that served as a crossing guard for many years. Ken will be dearly missed by all who knew him. John Lessenger "Jack" Loesch, age 85, a longtime resident of Albuquerque died on the 23rd of June 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital's Sandia Hospice Pavilion after a short illness. He was born October 2, 1916 in Fairfield, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He moved with his family to Albuquerque in 1956. His great love was hiking in the mountains with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia. He is survived by a sister, Suzanne Kline and husband, Willard of Waterloo, IA; and three daughters, Kathie Jarrett and husband, Al of Albuquerque, Pam Hinchcliffe and husband, David of Albuquerque and Sara Frank and husband, Curt of Cupertino, CA. He was much loved by his six grandchildren, David, Benjamin, Jason, Amy, Jeremy and Bethany; and three great-grandchildren, Francesca, Anastasia and James. They loved his sense of humor and his funny stories. Cremation and arrangements are being made by Direct Funeral Services. It was his wish that no services be held. Leo Francis McNaney, Jr. died on Sunday, June 23, 2002 of cancer at the age of 63. William Robert "Bob" Orr, 86, died on June 22, 2002 in Albuquerque. A former Albuquerque resident who recently moved back to the city to live with his son, Charles and wife, Wendy, Bob had lived in Alamogordo, NM for 46 years. Born to Presbyterian missionaries in Puerto Rico in 1916, Bob lived in Colorado and New Mexico as a child. After attending college in Kansas and Colorado, he served as an officer in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew many missions as a B-25 navigator in the Solomon, Gilbert, and Marshall Islands of the South Pacific. In 1944, in Ft. Lupton, CO, he married his beloved wife, the former Marion Scott, who died in 1989. An avid stamp collector and music lover, Bob worked as a Real Estate Broker and also in the furniture and hardware business during his 37 year civilian career. He was a member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Alamogordo. He is survived by his sister, Betty Wilson and husband, David of Nampa, ID; and his children, Judith L. Lotz and William Dennison of Falls Church, VA, Charles W. and Wendy Orr of Albuquerque and David R. and Mary Jane Orr of Plano, TX. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Karen Lotz of Arlington, MA, Jesse, Jennifer, and John Orr of Albuquerque, Brennan Orr of Plano, TX, Kevin Orr of Amarillo, TX, Cara Collier of San Francisco, CA and David Collier of Austin, TX. Consuelo "Connie" Slater, 77, a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, June 26, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Art; and her three sons, Charles, Pat, and Walter Slater; granddaughters, Connie Rhinehart and husband, Norman of Dallas, TX and Jessi Rae Slater of Albuquerque; grandsons, Chris, Andrew and Michael Slater, all of Albuquerque; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Melissa Rhinehart, both of Dallas, TX and Cody Slater of Albuquerque. Connie was born in Santa Fe, but was raised in Antonito, CO, where she attended high school. Connie attended college in Atchison, KS studying to become a teacher, but instead, chose a career in politics. She worked as a secretary to Gov. Ed Mecham for two terms, then as secretary to George Beach, County Assessor, also Charlie Woods, New Mexico Education Secretary, Max Coll, Minority Floor Leader and Colin McMillan, Minority Floor Leader, New Mexico House of Representatives. James B. (J.B.) Wade, 75, a resident of Rio Rancho for nine years, died on June 24, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeanette Wade of the family home; children, Linda Brady and husband, Gene of Rio Rancho, Nancy Harmon and husband, Milo of Rio Rancho, Sheri Wade of Gilbert, AZ and Allen Wade of Albuquerque; grandchildren, James, Anthony, Daniel and Naomi Fisher, Joshua, Aaron and Kyle Harmon, Stephanie and Alyssa Toney; sisters, Alberta Estes and Dorine Burton both of Melrose, NM and Betty Terry of Stapleton, GA; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where he and Jeanette met in Wesley Club and were among one of the first couples to be married in the new sanctuary. James was also a member of the Men's Club and the Wesley Club where he met his wife at the church. He graduated from U.N.M. in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. James belonged to NARFE where he is the Northwest District Vice President. He enjoyed fixing cars and belonged to the Albuquerque Genealogy Club. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial Service will be on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW with Dr. Terry Anderson, officiating. BERNABE GURULE SR., 91, of Rio Lucio, died Monday. He retired from the state Highway Department in 1973. He was a lifelong member of the Fraternidad Piadiosa de Nuestro Jesus Nazareno and San Antonio de Padua Parish of Peñasco. A rosary will be recited at 2 and 7 p.m. today at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco. VICTOR ROMERO JR., 73, died Monday. He was born April 3, 1929, to the late Victor Romero Sr. and Annie Vigil Romero. He was a 12-year student and graduate of St. Michael's High School, Class of 1947 and one of the alumni to receive a 50th year Golden Anniversary Diploma. He retired in 1994 from Johnson Controls in Los Alamos where he was an electrical maintenance superintendent. He was a parishioner of the St. Francis Cathedral Church, a lifetime member of the BPOE Elks; a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; and a member of the Capital City Dance Club. He and his wife Mary were the owners of Vitality Unlimited Health Food Store from 1977 to 1988. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rudy Romero Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Quintana Romero; his daughters, Jorene Sandoval and husband Mike, and Reisha Sandwell; son, Victor Alan Romero III; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Christella Noedel and husband Julian; brother, Gerald Romero and wife Lourdes; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. today at McGee Memorial Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Francis Cathedral Church. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Open Hands. McGee Memorial Chapel.
Marie Anderson Axline, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, was born April 27, 1912 in Pine Castle, Florida and died Thursday, June 26, 2003. She attended college at The University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in Journalism in 1933. Soon after, she married E.C. (Bud) Axline. Soon after, they moved to Salina, Kansas. They moved to Albuquerque in 1942 so Bud could pursue his Engineering career. In 1945, their first and only child, Bruce was born. Marie was a member of Gamma Phi Beta for over 70 years. She was also a volunteer at the Albuquerque Assistance League for over 20 years. Marie was also involved with the Albuquerque Trap Club throughout the 1960s. She was also active in bridge clubs at the Elks Club and Four Hills Country Club for many years. In her later years, she made numerous trips to various parts of the world. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Bud Axline; her granddaughter, Brenda Axline; and her sister, Edith Gunther. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Anderson of Lindale, TX; one sister, Dorothy Osborn of Culver, Indiana; another brother, Jack Anderson of Dripping Springs, TX; and a son, Bruce Axline of High Rolls, NM. Services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2003, at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will take place Monday, June 30, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
