Kay Kipp Martin, 71, a native New Mexican and lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003. She was born July 23, 1931, at the Womens and Childrens Hospital in Albuquerque. Kay attended Eugene Field Elementary, Lincoln Junior High and Albuquerque High, where she graduated in 1949. After graduation, she worked for Continental Oil and ACF. Kay went to TVI in 1975, where she earned her L.P.N License. She worked at Anna Kaseman as a Psychiatric Nurse until she retired in 1988. Kay loved to travel. In 2000, she finally made it around the world. Kay is survived by her husband, Randall Martin; son, Kip Kendrick and his wife, Jan; two grandsons, John and James; two sisters, Gloria Rice and Shirley Selva; numerous nephews and nieces; and her loving Maltese, Tasha. Services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., at First Family Church, 4701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Entombment will follow at Chester T. Cornelio V. Montoya, 86, passed away on May 13, 2003. He was born on November 9, 1916 in Las Vegas, NM. Mr. Montoya is preceded in death by his sons, Donald and Raymond Montoya. He is survived by his wife, Rose Montoya; sons, Tony Montoya and wife, Cheryl, Leroy Montoya and wife, Carol, Albert Montoya and wife, Virginia, Robert Montoya and wife, Stacy, Gilbert Montoya and wife, Anna, Frank Montoya and wife, Bernadette, Felix Montoya and wife, Francis and Herman Montoya; daughters, Angie Romero and husband, Eddie, Kathy Aragon and husband, Vicente and Dolores Montoya; sister, Mary Rolando; sister-in-law, Pauline Barela; 23 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Mr. Montoya will be deeply missed by his loving family. Visitations will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary with a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Edwin Catholic Church. Olen Dale Potts "Pottsie ", age 66, a longtime resident of Bosque Farms passed away peacefully May 12 2003. Survivors include Terezia K. Potts of the family home; son, Michael Potts and wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Michelle Brooks and husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Teresa Marie, Johnathan, Kasandra, Christopher, Elizabeth, Samantha, Eric, Kyle, Tyrel and Jeremiah. Dale was a member of the N.M. Press Association, News Paper Publisher, a longtime businessman and car dealer in Bosque Farms. He was well known for his involvement in the Valencia County Little League in the 1960's & 1970's, he was always willing to help out with events at the Bosque Farms Community Fair. Over the years thru his business and private life, he gave to those in need. He was a big "bear" of a man with an even bigger heart that quit beating on May 12, 2003. He will be missed by all. Theodore Roosevelt Schifani "Ted ", age 83, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, May 12, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Olga Schifani and her life partner, Amy Duggan of Burton, WA; son, Frank Schifani of San Gabriel, CA; brother Daniel Schifani of Santa Fe, NM; ex-wife, Marion Schifani of San Gabriel, CA; nieces and nephews, Cindy, David, Frank, Gayle, Gordene, Joe, Jolene, Karen, Linda, Mary Louise, Ola, Patty, Penny, Phyllis, Rick, Shirley, Tina and William, all of them were his favorites; numerous grand-nieces and nephews; numerous friends and especially his lifelong friend from first grade, Doc Giannini and his wife, Lois. Ted worked for KGGM Radio and television and was vice president of NM Timber. He was a past president and lifetime member of the NM Zoological Society, Pie Kappa Alpha and numerous other organizations, which he served proudly. Ted loved life and lived it to its fullest. Some of his many interests were old movies, opera, travel, and a love of animals. He had a passion for history and always enjoyed a great conversation with friends. Russell Leo Southworth always the good Samaratin, was 71 years old. Born August 24, 1931. Passed away on May 12, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Southworth is survived by his four sons, Mikeal, Edward, Eric and Danny; three daughters, DeeAnn, Diana and Margie; one son-in-law, Jason; seven grandchildren, James, Jessica, Alex, Amanda, Madonna, Ronald and Mitchell; his cousin, Butch Dangler; his guardian Angel, Darryl; and Russell's beloved pet, Chica. DWIGHT CHARLES BYRAM, 71, of Pendaries for 20 years and formerly of Albuquerque died Friday. He was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Minneapolis to Floyd Seab Byram and Lilian Viola Berg. He was united in marriage on Dec. 23, 1987 in Monterey, Calif., to Betty Mae Barnwell. He graduated from the University of California in Berkeley, where he received his master's degree. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was awarded the National Defense Medal and Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Ballad Abyad Shrine Temple, 32nd degree Mason, Elks Club, American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Albuquerque. He was a member of the National Association of Engineers, the Pendaries Golf and Country Club and the Republican Party. He was a civil engineer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and traveled across the U.S. and Canada before he retired after 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife, of the family home in Pendaries; sons, Steve Byram and wife Kathy of Virginia, and Jeffrey Byram and wife Sharon of Lafayette, Calif.; brother, Jim Byram of Louisiana; and four grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private memorial at a later date. Rogers Mortuary.

FLORENTINO 'FLO' R. GONZALES, 88, died Tuesday at La Vida Hermosa in Santa Fe. He was born on the family ranch in El Macho, in the upper Pecos river canyon in San Miguel County to Pablita Rivera and Geronimo Gonzales. Growing up on the family ranch, he helped his parents raising livestock and building a solid ranch life. He attended the Pecos school system, leaving the family ranch to live with relatives in Pecos, and eventually graduating first in his class. He witnessed the boom and bust of the Terrero mine, and participated in the civic life of his adopted city, Santa Fe. He was a self-educated man with a passion for reading, politics and ranching. Upon arriving in Santa Fe in the midst of the Great Depression, he convinced a reluctant employer to hire him at no salary for one week as a test of his abilities. During his career he was employed as an accountant and manager for Bryne Petroleum Co., United Van Lines, Chama Valley Bus Line, The Espaņola Telephone Co. and the Los Alamos Building and Loan in Espaņola. He was also a devoted member of St. Francis Cathedral parish, a life member of The Knights of Columbus and a lector at daily Mass for many years. He purchased a ranch in the upper Pecos on Grass Mountain and with his father and brothers built a thriving cattle and horse business, and rode the trails of the nearby Pecos Wilderness. He was a Rotarian, a founding member of the San Miguel Sheriff's Posse/Pecos Branch, and a life-long Republican. He married Eufemia Vigil of Pecos in 1940. She preceded him in death in 1993. Also preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, Dolores Gonzales and Melinda Gonzales Gallegos; brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Vigil, Trinidad Gallegos, Desiderio Vigil and Joe Azua. He is survived by his children, Joseph and wife Bernadette Bransford Gonzales, Elizabeth Chapman and husband Patrick, Theresa Connaughton and husband Martin; and Florentino, Jr. and wife Kas L. of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Silviano Gonzales and wife Velta of Broomfield, Colo., Geronimo (Jerry) Gonzales and wife Stella Tapia of Santa Fe, and Ricardo Gonzales of Grass Mountain; sister, Polly Gonzales Kennedy and husband Jim of Los Alamos; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. A second visitation will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Cathedral. CELIA ESTRADA MARRUJO, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Saturday at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Calif. She was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Koehler and loved being a member of the Church of Christ and singing church hymns. In 1990 she moved to California to be with four of her eight children. She was preceded in death by her beloved Andres Lopez, her parents, grandparents, and two brothers. She is survived by her children, Mary and Tito Montoya, Pablo and Shirley Marrujo, Ernest and Dely Marrujo, Tomas and Angelina Marrujo, Rose and Larry Scott, Loretta and Arsenio Garduno, Tony and Kerri Estrada, Bertha and Fred Albright; brother, Joe Estrada; sisters, Florence Romero and Josie, and Toby Herrera; 35 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many friends and church family. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Christ, 2513 Hot Springs Blvd., Las Vegas, N.M. Interment will follow at the Church of Christ Cemetery. MARY SANDOVAL, 78, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Tuesday in Albuquerque. She was born Sept. 3, 1924, to Sarah and Rafael Alires in Las Vegas, N.M. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Salas; brother, Manuel Alires; and nephew, Richard P. Alires. She is survived by her son, Bobby Sandoval and wife Irene, daughter, Priscilla Padilla all of Denver; sons, Larry Alires and wife Loretta, Richard Alires and friend Jean, Elmer Sandoval and wife Percy all of Las Vegas, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam Alires and wife Cruzita of Las Vegas, and Joe Alires and wife and wife Frances of Portales; sisters, Mary Valdez and husband Manuel, Sophia Romo and husband Gilbert, Neda Soto and husband Walter all of Pueblo, Colo., and Eslinda Benavidez and husband Joe of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many friends. Lucile Emery Banks, widow of the late Thomas G. Banks Jr. of Las Cruces, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, in Durango, Colorado after a long illness. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, May 11, 1912. A former resident of Las Cruces and Albuquerque, Mrs. Banks is survived by her three children, Mary Banks Coulter of Allison, CO, Elizabeth Banks Lisle of Gambrills, MD and Thomas Gray Banks III of Las Cruces; her sister, Ida Maude Emery Brett of Oklahoma City, OK; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was a 63-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a women's philanthropic and educational organization. Her current affiliation was Chapter BF in Las Cruces. Mrs. Banks enjoyed art and painting landscapes of New Mexican scenery, at one time managed a radio station, and earned her private pilot's license before she learned to ride a bicycle. Sister Juniper Bickel, 62, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as an educator and health care provider, died on June 25, 1999 at Assisi Heights, Rochester. Born Mary Priscilla Bickel on December 19, 1936 in Portsmouth, Ohio, Sister Juniper entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1954 from St. Mary Parish, Portsmouth. She made profession of vows in 1957 and began her teaching career at St. Priscilla Parish, Chicago. She taught in various schools in Minnesota, Ohio and Colorado. Sister Juniper is survived by her Franciscan Community; and by brother, David Bickel and wife, Kathleen of Albuquerque; nephew, Michael Bickel, wife, Carla, and Godson, Charles Michael; nephew, Stephen Bickel and wife, Boo, and niece, Karen Almos and husband, Michael. She completed the nursing program at the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, Minn. In 1984. She ministered in the nursing profession in Albuquerque with Presbyterian Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sunday, June 27, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights, with the Reverend Jack Krough officiating. Jane S. Borough, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Friday, June 25, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Rex Borough of Albuquerque; son, Hayes Keeler and wife, Georgene of San Francisco, CA; daughters, Marcy Keeler of Milpitas, CA, Sherry Perry of Corrales and Linda Borough of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Bowra. Mrs. Borough was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority at the University of Colorado. Gladys S. Brown, 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Friday, June 25, 1999. She is survived by her brother, Wm. Frank Kleinschmidt and wife, Mildred of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Brown. At Gladys' request, cremation will take place and no services will be held. Harley M. Cato, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died June 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Cato of the family home; son, Wayne Cato and wife, Cindy of Albuquerque; daughter, Kathy Battleson and husband, David of Britt, IA; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Claude Cato and wife, Ola of North Little Rock, AR, and Emory Cato and wife, Flora of Little Rock, AR; stepchildren, Patricia, Dale, Timothy, and James all of Wyoming; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Dan W. Cooley II, 24, a resident of Chicago, IL since 1996, and a former resident of Albuquerque, died in Chicago as a result of an auto accident. He is survived by his mother, Shelley Cooley; father, Daniel W. Cooley and wife, Paula; grandmother, Betty Self, all of Albuquerque; aunts and uncles, Peter Cooley of Albuquerque, Cherryl Lingo and husband, Dean of Flora Vista, NM, Randy Self of Carlsbad, and Rick Self and wife, Brieta of Sherman, TX; and numerous cousins. Dan was born in Albuquerque in 1975. He attended Del Norte High School and the University of New Mexico. He then moved to Chicago, IL in 1996. He was a loving son, grandson, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Hazel L. Cox, 91, a resident of Albuquerque for 55 years, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. "Why do we wait 'til someone dies to say or write fine words of praise 'Tis the living who should daily hear accolades or an inspiring phrase." She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Juul and husband, Bob of Bosque Farms, Alice J. Brannen of Albuquerque, Loretta Jean Edgar of Bonham, TX; sons, Cecil L. Cox and wife, Sherry of Edgewood and Miller Dean Cox and wife, Irene of Albuquerque; and a legacy of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Miller L. Cox in 1995; and her daughter, H. Nadine MacDonald in 1998. Mrs. Cox was a member of Central Assembly of God Church. She was a great mother and grandmother who spent her life taking care of her family. Patrick T. "Tommy" Cox, 20, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 23, 1999. Tommy is survived by his father, Ken Cox; mother and step-father, Sandy and Lawrence Gonzales; his sister, Autumn Cox; his nephew, Tommy Cox; grandparents, Jeanne Hunt, Patrick Cox, Joaquin and Romana Gonzales; his girlfriend, Shurie Gonzales; many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. A Funeral service will be held Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, 4001 Osuna Rd N.E. Pastor Dave Row, officiating. Mr. Lugardo De La O, 99, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 25, 1999 at home with his loved ones at his side. Mr. De La O is survived by his sister, Manuelita (Mela) Sandoval; his brother, James De La O and wife, Melba; sister-in-law, Guadalupe De La O; many nieces and nephews. Mr. De La O was a member of the Catholic church. Visitation will be Sunday evening in the St. Therese Little flower Church, 300 Mildred NW from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be Monday morning in the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Father Lazaro Cuesta. P.T. Garrison, age 74, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Friday, June 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Esther Garrison of Albuquerque; daughter, Suzanne Myer and husband, Bob of Albuquerque; son, Lindy Garrison and wife, Cindi of California; brother, Jimmy Garrison of Texas; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, July 1, 1999 at 1st Presbyterian Church with Rev. Myron White officiating. Rosanne Holler Gerken, age 86, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died June 22, 1999. She is survived by her brothers, Edward and Richard Holler; a niece, Jeanette Ross of Los Lunas; and other family members. A graduate of Fordham University, Mrs. Gerken taught school and served in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II and received an Honorable Discharge on December 13, 1945. She traveled extensively with her husband, Lt. Col. Fred Gerken, during his long military career in the U.S. Army. Lt. Col. Gerken preceded her in death in 1984. An active Catholic, Mrs. Gerken supported the work of several religious communities serving the poor and homeless. Friends are invited to attend the 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1800 Martha NE, on Thursday, July 1st, with a coffee reception to immediately follow. A Memorial Mass for Vincent and Margaret Gorman will be held Thursday, July 1, 2:00 p.m., at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
Vincent was a resident of Albuquerque since 1938 and died February 19, 1996 in Norman, Oklahoma.
He was a pharmacist.
Margaret died August 26, 1998 in Norman.
She was a registered nurse at Presbyterian Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital.
They were members of Annunciation Church, New Heart, and Annunciation Golden Agers.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Allen Vidal of Gallup; daughter, Sharon Rose Lau of Park Ridge, IL; three grandchildren, Craig Allen Vidal of Colorado Springs, CO, Bruce Marvin Vidal and wife, Melinda Sue and Kimberly Sharon Esparza and husband, Leonard Luis, all of Gallup four great-grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Vidal and Brittany Nicole Vidal, both of Colorado Springs, CO, and Savieay Luis Esparza and Casia Anyssia Esparza, both of Gallup. Mrs. Hodge was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a past member of the Daughters of the Nile. Services will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with Dr. Paul Debenport officiating. Interment will take place Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Sunday, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
