Anna Frances Davalos Carter, a native of New Mexico, passed away early Sunday morning, March 29, 1998, after a painful struggle with lung cancer. She is survived by her husband, Ray; son, Mike Goodwin; daughters, Cyndi Goodwin and Alyson Kite and husband, Lindsey; sister, Terry Oehm and husband, Hank, all residents of Albuquerque; brother, Jeff and wife, Jo of Tucson, AZ; stepchildren, Becky, Alan, Barbara, and Ray; grandchildren, Jennifer Martinez of Fort Collins, CO, and Brooke Cromwell of Albuquerque; great-grandchild, Joey of Albuquerque; niece, Elena Giacci and husband, Gary; nephew, David Giacci; dog, Mulligan and cats, Wesley and Aggie Doone, also residents of Albuquerque. John "Pappy Jack" Jenks, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Friday, March 27, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elda V. Jenks of the family home; daughter, Linda L. Owen and husband, Donald C. of Texas; granddaughter, Crystal L. Owen of Texas; and niece, Shirley Brady of San Diego, CA. John was born June 2, 1913, in Jessup, IA. He entered the United States Navy at the age of 17 on August 17, 1930. During his time in the Navy, he served on four 4-Pipers, 1100 Ton Class Destroyers and also The USS Downs, The USS Warrington, The USS Sumner, and The USS Wedderburn. He retired from the Navy on February 19, 1957, with a rank of Chief Torpedoman after 26 years of service. John was a charter member of The Warren G. Harding Masonic Lodge in Paulsbo, WA and also a member of the D.A.V. Post 3 in Albuquerque. He was a hard working, kind and loving man who took care of his family and his country. He will be missed. Bernadino (Bennie) Maldonado 58, a resident of Albuquerque passed away Saturday in a local hospital. Mr. Maldonado was born April 12, 1939 in Escabosa, NM to Pablo and Floripa Maldonado. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Helen of the family home; one son, Robert and wife, Tersita; two daughters, Theresa Gurule and husband, Matthew, Bernadette Maldonado; two granddaughters Danielle, and Sara Gurule. George "Coy" Montoya, 67, a resident of Albuquerque for two years, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998. He is survived by his sister, Rafelita Ulibarri of Patterson City, CA; brother, Dan Montoya and wife, Marie of Raton; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Mr. Montoya was born in Albuquerque, but spent a great deal of his life in Los Angeles, CA. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a medic. Mr. Montoya was a hard-working man and worked for three major race tracks in the Los Angeles area. Gilbert Abad Perea, from a prominent pioneering New Mexico family, passed away Thursday morning, March 26, 1998, after a long illness.
To his friends, he was known as "El Guero."
Gilbert was born and raised in Corrales to Adelaida Palladini Perea and Abenicio Crollett Perea of Corrales.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Pablito, Abenicio and Pedro; and by his sisters, Serafina, Desolina, Amalia, Adela, and Olibama.
He is survived by his brother, Juan and his sisters, Annie, Balbina and Priscilla; as well as his children and grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Bernalillo.
He will be interred in California, where his family will hold private services.

Congressman Steve Schiff, 51, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; children, Jaimi and Daniel; mother, Helen Bjerke of Oceanside, CA; brothers, Maurice Schiff and wife, Sharon of West Hills, CA, and Gordon Schiff of Chicago, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Congressman Schiff received his B.A. in Political Science at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1968, and his J.D. at the University of New Mexico Law School in 1972. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 1989. He served as District Attorney of Bernalillo County from 1981-1988; was Assistant Albuquerque City Attorney and Counsel for Albuquerque Police and Fire Departments 1979-1981; was a trial attorney in private practice; and previously was Assistant District Attorney of Bernalillo County 1972-1977. Congressman Schiff served in the NM Air National Guard over 20 years, and retired in 1997 as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a member of Civitan International, the Fraternal Order of Police, was a former President of the Albuquerque Lodge of B'nai B'rith, and was a member of Congregation Albert for over 25 years. Henry L. Gurule, 65, a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 9, 1999. Mr. Gurule was born on July 15, 1934 to the late Gregorio and Estella Gurule. He was a life long resident of Albuquerque and a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Angela Maria Long passed away on October 4th at home after a short battle with cancer. She was 39. A native of New Mexico, she was born on September 26, 1960. Her loving children, Amanda Rose Johnson and Adam Mitchell Johnson survives her. She is also survived by Susan Lee Long, step-mother; brother, Anthony Eugene Long and his wife, Helen Ann Long; sisters, Sherry Robin Vicki and her husband, Guido Vicki, and Theresa Suzette Brewer. Angela's father, Robert Eugene Long, passed away on May 28th of this year. Mother, Marie Kathryn Witt-Long passed away in 1988. Angela has two very special nieces, Meredith Leigh Vicki, and Eve Marie Martinez; plus great nephews, Anthony Steven Vicki and Robert Quasti Montoya; and great-niece, Christina Martinez; other surviving family members include grandmother, Cecelia Eileen Long; and her aunts, Carol Ann Angus and Pamela Sue Baker. Angela also has a multitude of very special cousins, plus dear friends in New Mexico and beyond. Angela was a well-known and respected member of the printing community in Albuquerque. Muriel Everett Olbert "Our Ruie", 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 199. She is survived by her daughter, Louise Bland and husband, Raymond of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kathryn Shull, Jim Shull and wife, Christen, all of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lauren and Austin; brother, Mark Everett; sisters-in-law, Serena, Eileen and Lucille; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1958; parents, Claude and Lillie Everett; twin sister, Perle; sisters, Edna and Doris; brothers, Estel, Walter, Roy and Clarence. Muriel was born in Mancos, CO on January 2, 1908, to Claude and Lillie Everett, a pioneer cattle ranching family. She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in education. Mrs. Olbert taught at Mrs. Trudell's Private School, in the Huning Castle, and tutored many students in her home. She retired from the City of Albuquerque, and also retired from Dillard's Department Store at the age of 81. Muriel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She was a former member of the Order of The Eastern Star and a member of Lew Wallace Chapter D.A.R. She was loved by all who knew her. She generously gave of her self to her family and friends. She was so lovingly cared for by everyone, especially by Nancy McAllister at her home and Helen and Rhonda at Vista del Rio Assisted Living Community. Elmo L. Rinehart, age 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1925 passed away at home October 8, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, June. He is survived by his son, Richard Rinehart; many relatives and good friends. The middle son of thirteen children, he worked on the Santa Fe Railroad in his early life. Mr. Rinehart was one of the founders of the Hudson Car Club, and the Model "T" Club, active in VMCCA and The Rocky Mountain Tool Club. The family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who has shown their love and respect during the past two years of his illness. He is going to be sadly missed by his cat, Sandy and his dog, Lizard. Collins of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. Mrs. Sadilek was born on January 15, 1920 in New Orleans, LA, to Charles and Marcella Schwalb. She attended schools in New Orleans. After graduating from Soule Business College, she worked for Paramount Pictures in New Orleans. She met her husband, Julies, in Biloxi, MS, on Labor Day weekend in 1939. They were married in a military wedding on February 8, 1941 in New Orleans. After World War II, she accompanied her husband on his various tours of duty throughout the world, including Europe and the Far East. After her husband's retirement from the military, she worked at the College of Education at UNM for many years and retired in 1979. She was a member of the Alta-Mera Pagentry of the Yucca Temple No. 74 Daughters of the Nile. She was active for many years in the Officer's Wives Club and was a lifelong member of the Sts. John Chapter #35 of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Orleans, LA. She was also a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. Services will be held Monday, October 11, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at Ballut Abayd Shrine Temple, 6600 Zuni Rd. SE, with Reverend John Russell officiating. Interment will take place Tuesday, October 12, 1999, 12:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
