Lawrence Ralph Bowdish, 83, the youngest child of Ralph A. and Laura A. Bowdish, was born 29 January, 1917 at Wichita, Kansas and died 1 July, 2000 in Albuquerque. He was a graduate of Kansas State University with a B.S. Architecture and a B.S. Architectural Engineer. He maintained Professional Registration in several states, and designed and supervised construction of many buildings. He enlisted in the Naval Construction Forces in 1942 and retired as LCDR-USNR. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Buchan Bowdish, in 1998. He is survived by a son, Ralph L. Bowdish and a daughter-in-law, Joann of Panama City, FL; a daughter, Nancy Anne Sharma and son-in-law, Ram Sharma of Portales; and three grandchildren, Lawrence and Christopher Bowdish and Monica Sharma. Lawrence Bowdish was a member of Palo Duro Lodge 1239, Amarillo, Texas, and a member of the Yorkrite Masonic Bodies. Knights Templar Funeral with Masonic graveside services at Santa Fe National Cemetery are pending at a later date. Arrangements by Sunrise Society of New Mexico, Ph-891-8200.

Nicholas "Nick" Cutshall, 38, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Karen Cutshall; brother, Jimmy Cutshall and wife, Mary, all of Albuquerque; nephews, Davy and Anthony Jaramillo; nieces, Loretta Jaramillo and Lyndayle Mattis; grandmother, Lois V. Cutshall of Highland, IN; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. Music was his greatest love. He composed and performed his own music. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. at Church on The Rock, 5300 2nd St. NW, with Pastor Johnson officiating. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

John J. Dobias, 78, passed away July 4, 2000 in Albuquerque. He died of complications from a heart attack. John was born in Kennedy, Minnesota. He served in the Marine Corps from 1940 to 1945, mostly in the South Pacific. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Agnes; and children, David and his children, David, Christina and Virginia; Terry and his wife, Clara and son, Christopher; Diana his daughter; Timothy and his children, John and Sheri; and Barbara and her husband, Ernie Garcia and daughter, Elaina. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Belle, Paul and Bertie. His surviving sisters and brother include Donald, Adelaide and Elinor. He was a member of Holy Ghost Parish. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial is planned for a later date.

Gene Hazel Donoghue, loving mother and grandmother, born July 28, 1911 in Roger Mill County, Oklahoma. She moved to Albuquerque in 1936 where she died on July 7, 2000 in the home her late husband, Ed built 61 years ago. Gene was preceded in death by her late husband, Edward James Donoghue; brothers, Joe Pace and Jesse Frank; and sisters, Edith Pace and Marie Farmer. Gene is survived by her brother, Quinten Pace and wife, Muriel; sister, Edna Lee and husband, Art Eckman; her children, Charles and wife, Torri, Gene and wife, Jackie, Norma and husband, Domnic, Mike and wife, Velma, Elaine and husband, Frank, Edwin and wife, Ellen, Margaret and husband, Bing, David and wife, Emily, and Joan and husband, Jerry; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Viewing will be held Sunday, July 9 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Strong Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE. Services will be held Monday, July 10, 10:30 a.m. at St. Therese Little Flower Church, 300 Mildred NW. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE.

Colleen Patricia Cloney Duncan, age 75, died peacefully on July 5, 2000, in Santa Fe, surrounded by the people and the mountains she loved. Colleen raised a loving and successful family while dedicating herself to meeting the needs of the underprivileged and under served. She was a community leader both in Santa Fe and her former home of Kalamazoo, Michigan. As a volunteer for the Museum of New Mexico, she became a scholar of Native American culture and arts. Colleen generously gave her time and knowledge to all who shared her love for the Pueblo societies and their artisans. While living in Kalamazoo, she served as the President of the Service Club, Trustee of Nazareth College and as Chairwoman of the Kalamazoo Art Center's Commercial Division. She was also a leader with the United Way and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. In keeping with Colleen's wishes, the family held private services. She is remembered with great love and admiration by her husband, James; their seven children; and twelve grandchildren, son, James, Jr. and wife, Christine Woodward Duncan of Santa Fe, NM, and Indianapolis, IN, with their children, Erica of Grand Rapids, MI, Rebecca, a student at Western Michigan University, and David Woodward, student at Purdue University; son, John of Chicago, IL, and his children, Sarah, a student at Yale University, and son, James, son, Gary of Indianapolis, IN, and his children, Emily of Alexandria, VA, and Kristen, a student at Indiana State University; son, Phillip of Oak Park, IL, and his children, Nathaniel, a student at Tulane University, and Olivia; daughter, Katherine of the Isle of Skye, Scotland and her daughter, Aine; son, Mark and his wife, Susan of Portage, MI, and their children, Mallory and Natalie; son, Tom and his wife, Leslie DeVera-Duncan of Portage, MI. For those who wish, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Santa Fe Community Foundation, the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, or the charity of their choice. Charles "Snowshoes" Willson Hampton, 87, passed away on July 3, 2000. Charlie was born Sept. 21, 1912 in Springville, New York, the only son of Enos & Charlotte Churchill Hampton. He married Olive Mae Jessop on June 30, 1931, celebrating 69 years of marriage this year. Charlie's interest in electronics led him to a career in the radio and TV business. He opened Hampton Radio and TV in Springville, New York 1945. Charlie was active in the Boy Scout program for over 20 years and was an Eagle Scout. He spent 6 years as a Scoutmaster, and under his leadership 6 scouts received their Eagle Scout Awards. Surviving are his wife Olive, of Brigham City, UT, and their four children; Wes Hampton of Brigham City, UT; Marilyn Orwatt of Albuquerque, NM; Wendy Zielinski of Rainer, OR; Chris Hampton of Rochester, NY. Also, 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. Private family services will be directed by Myers Mortuary in Brigham. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.

Howard "Smokey" Harris, 81, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 7, 2000. He was a lifelong of New Mexico resident, rancher, and horseman. He is survived by his two daughters, Phyllis Smith of Moriarty and Linda Kimbrough-Dyer and husband, Ralph Dyer of Albuquerque; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held at Mountainview Cemetery in Moriarty, NM at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2000, with Rev. Terry Mathews officiating. Dr. Dwaine A. Hathaway, 65, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 4, 2000. Graveside services will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Funeral services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW.

Anthony Wayne Hughes, 42, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on July 1, 2000. Tony graduated high school in 1976, attended LSU, joined the United States Air Force in 1976, of which he devoted 22 years of his life. He was a member of the elite Pararescue Specialist Unit-Detachment 1, 342nd Training Squadron, Kirtland AFB, NM "THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE." He received an Associates degree in Search and Rescue Techniques and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the United States Air Force in Albuquerque. He is survived by his sons, Anthony and Jonathan; daughter, Alisa; wife, Pam and her children, Joseph, Kathy and Minnette; his parents, Jack Hughes of California, Carole Bradley of Texas; his sisters, Carolyn and Natalie; and five brothers, Brian, Dan, Tim, Rob and Nathan; seven nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren. Tony, you will be greatly missed by your family, all who served with you, and all who knew you HOOYAH. Services for Tony will be held on Monday, July 10, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at Gospel Light Baptist Church, 1500 Southern Blvd., in Rio Rancho. Interment will follow immediately at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark, with full Military Honors by Kirtland Air Force Base. Adolph Linz, 83, and Albuquerque resident since 1979, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Ann D. Linz of Albuquerque; brothers William Linz and family of Beaverton, OR, Hans Linz and family of Furth, Germany; brother-in-law, Konrad Dettweiler and family of Heinrichsheim, Germany; sister-in-law and family of Gabriola Island, Canada. Mr. Linz was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was a member and former vice-president of F.M.C.A. Chaparral Motor Club. He worked for Mercedes-Benz for several years in Illinois and later owned and operated Linz Autohaus Mercedes-Benz dealership in Ft. Wayne, IN. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 210 Alvarado Dr. SE, with Pastor Mick Erickson, officiating. Mr. Frank Anthony Salazar, 72, of Ventura, CA, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2000 after a brief illness. Frank Salazar was born on October 2, 1927 in Albuquerque and was a resident of Ventura County for 50 years. Frank Salazar received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California and began his teaching career. He also went on to earn his Master of Music degree and joined the faculty at Ventura College. In 1962 he founded the Ventura County Symphony Orchestra which he conducted and directed until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Salazar is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith Salazar of Ventura, CA; his son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Lucy Salazar of Oceanside, CA, his daughter and son-in-law, Christine Salazar and Paul Birrer of Irvine, CA, his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Salazar and Maike Lazaro of Madrid, Spain, his son, Phillip Salazar of Ventura, CA; his brother, Lester Salazar and wife, Rebecca of Albuquerque; two sisters-in-law, Carmelita and Flora; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Julie, Andrea and Marcos. Memorial Services for Mr. Salazar will be held on July 16, 2000 at 4:30 p.m. at the San Buenaventura Mission, 211 E. Main St., Ventura, CA. Memorial Services will also be held in Albuquerque. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.

Rhoda D. Shields, April 26, 1915 to July 5, 2000. Mrs. Shields passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia and partner, Beata; son, John and wife, Laura; grandchildren, Marijo, John Marshall, Matthew, and Raymond. Aunt Rhoda, as she was known by her children's friends, will be dearly missed. Private family services will be held. Sunrise Society is serving the family of Mrs. Shields, (891-8200).

Robert M. Smith, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday July 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Judith; daughter, Leigh Ellen Taylor and husband, Patrick; sons, Andrew Michael and Timothy David Smith; one grandson; sister, Dorothy Stephensen; brother, Bernie Smith. Robert served four years in the US Air Force. He was very patient, understanding, and always there for his friends and family. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, 2532 Vermont NE. Mass will be celebrated Monday, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Ronald Bruckner, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Dorothy Starks, married January 28,1941, to Virgil, resident of Albuquerque, passed away June 30, 2000, after a long illness. Survived by Charles & wife, Kiyo Maxwell, Clyde Wayne & wife, Joyce Bell, Janice Sanders, Vivian & husband, David Thomas, Bruce Starks; grandsons, David & wife, Yvonne Thomas, Junior & wife, Mieko Maxwell, Johnny & wife, Lynne, Robby & wife, Cheyenne, Jeffery, Damien Sanders; granddaughter, Sherry & husband, Jim Bristo. Including sister-in-law, Marie Maxwell, Gary & wife, Karen Maxwell, Sharon York & daughters of Texas. great-grandchildren, Desiree & Brainna Thomas, Cindy & Carol Maxwell.

Jim Willcutt, 79, died July 5, 2000. He was a retired iron worker of local 495. He was preceded in death by his wife, Senida; and his son, Roland. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Maria Willcutt; grandchildren, Robert and wife, Ramona, Monica and husband, Gabriel Valenzuela, and Michelle Willcutt; three great-grandchildren, Camille, Ryan and Alisa. A Rosary will be held on Monday, July 10, 8:00 p.m., at St. Anne Church, 1400 Arenal Rd. SW. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 9:00 a.m., also at the church.

John C. Williams, 62, a resident of Albuquerque for 30 years, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Bertha E. Williams of the family home; step-daughters, Joyce Parmeter, Linda Smouse and husband, David, all of Albuquerque, Karen Kruichak and husband, Max of Cantor, NY, and Eileen Elster and husband, Ed of Orange Park, FL; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Graveside services will be held Monday, 12:00 o'clock noon, at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with Rev. L.W. George officiating. Manuelita Silva Baca, 79, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 7, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Elias Gallegos, Jr., of the family home; brother, Ricardo Silva of Abo, NM; sister, Maria Moreno and husband, Trinidad of Belen; four sons; four daughters, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rosary will be recited Monday, July 9, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, time pending, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Beneranda J. (Bennie), 82, beloved wife, sister and mother passed away peacefully on July 8, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Abelicio B. Barela; children, Daniel A. Barela and wife, Donna, Esmerlindo J. Barela, Abelicio J. Barela Jr. and wife, Anna, Jennifer B. Montano and husband, Jacob, and Francine M. LaJeunesse and husband, Albert. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Olivia, Mario, Dominic, Natalie, Andrea, Vanessa and JoAna. Surviving brothers and sisters are Andres Jaramillo and wife, Taney, Evaristo Flores Jaramillo, Matilde Martinez and husband, Luis, Kate Bailey and husband, Earl, Tony Jaramillo and wife, Martha, and Delfin Jaramillo; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Berlinda. Bennie was a beautiful example of a devoted wife and mother. She seemed to have a way of making the simple things in life meaningful and enjoyable. Her passions in life were her church, her husband, her children and her home. She also loved growing flowers. Her nuturing touch made not only her flowers grow, but everyone around her blossom. The family is grateful to have had such a gentle soul in their lives. A Rosary will be recited on Monday evening, July 9th at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna N.W. with visitation at the church after 6:30 p.m. Henry Jaramillo, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning, July 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, with final viewing at the church after 9:30 a.m. Father Gene, celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Daniel A. Barela, Esmerlindo J. Barela, Abelicio J. Barela Jr., Jacob I. Montano, Mario I. Montano, and Dominic I. Montano. Theresa Bogard died Friday, July 7th after a short illness. She was born March 18, 1920, a life long resident of Albuquerque. Survivors are one brother, Lawrence F. Arrighetti; and two sisters, Mary Raines, and Penny Stephens. Nine nephews and nieces also survive her. A graveside service for Theresa will be held Monday, July 9, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery with Rusty Arrighetti, Richard Arrighetti, Dr. Wes Arrighetti, Bill Keeter, Jimmy Stephens, and Butch Harris service as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Arrighetti, and Steve Woodward. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 525 San Pedro NE, Suite 101, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE are in charge of arrangements.

Salomon A. Chavez, 74, beloved and devoted brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, early Saturday morning, July 7, 2001. Mr. Chavez was a resident of Alameda, formerly of California; he was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salomon and Maria Chavez. He is survived by four brothers, David Chavez and wife, Libby, Nestor Chavez both of Alameda, Vivian Chavez and wife, Lillie of Corrales, Max Chavez and wife, Cecelia of California; eight sisters, Lala Chavez, Rosemary Serda, Irene Cortez and Marcella Martinez all of Albuquerque, Charlotte Chavez, Rachel Atencio and husband, Danny, Dolores Jaramillo and husband, Lee all of California, Sophie Gonzales and husband, Orlando of Los Lunas; and many other relatives. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and those who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be conducted this morning at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Carlos Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Orlando Gonzales, Richard Gonzales, Rudy Chavez, Michael Chavez, Jerry Chavez and John Martinez. Honorary bearers will be Steve Chavez, Ross Lopez, Robert Barela, Adrian Martinez, Aaron Martinez Jarod Serda, Jason Serda and Aaron Chavez. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 69. Services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th Street NW, 898-3160.

Linda Theresa Corey. In Memory. Age 52, of Madrid, NM, passed peacefully at her home on July 1, 2001. Born March 28, 1949 in Long Island City, NY. Linda went on to achieve many great things in her life, undertaking a number of different careers and mastering them all. Her passions were her horses and cooking gourmet meals for her friends and family. She will be remembered for her charisma, kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness and the passion with which she lived each day. Linda is survived by her aunts, uncles, and counsins on the east coast. She is mourned by her close friends and family who treasure the memories of their good times together. No memorial service has been planned but she will be remembered by those who truly loved her.

Gene C. DeWitt, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, July 6, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy DeWitt Wiest; and sister, Viola DeWitt, both of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Ballinger Dewitt; and brothers, Charles M. DeWitt, Ted R. DeWitt, John C. DeWitt and Robert DeWitt. Gene was the general electrical foreman on various large Albuquerque projects. Gene was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in the 48th Ordnance Bomb Squad during WW II. Gene was a member of IBEW #611 for 65 years and the American Legion, Otero Garcia Post. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Tuesday, July 10, 2001, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
