Flora L. Barreras, age 92, passed away at her home in La Bajada on May 9, 1999. She was born to Cipriano and Guadalupe Lucero in Cerrillos, NM on September 16, 1906. She is survived by son, Henry L. Barreras; brothers, Joe A., Abad E., and Arnold Lucero; sister, Aurora Griego; grandchildren, Robert A. and Bruce G. Barreras, Evangeline Tinajero, Carol McMillan, Terri Molina, Richard D. and Arthur D. Barbosa; great-grandchildren, Darrin N. Muenzberg, Julie and Rob Barreras, Christine and Michael McMillan, Bradley and Victoria Barreras, Charles Aragon, Mariesa and Vanessa Barbosa and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Enrique (Henry) L. Barreras; her daughter, Consuelo Barbosa; her brothers, Cipriano L. and Osmundo Lucero; and her sister, Lucia Lucero. During the years Mrs. Barreras lived in California, she was an active member of The Sons and Daughters of New Mexico, The Women's Democratic Club, and the Gardena Valley Artists Association. Mrs. Barreras gave art classes in her home and at various community centers for many years. She attended Cerrillos High School and the Frank Wiggins Art School in Los Angeles, CA. She married Enrique (Henry) L. Barreras in November, 1925 in Cerrillos, NM. Mrs. Barreras was instrumental in the restoration of the San Miguel Church in the Village of La Bajada by donating her time, resources and artwork to see that the church was saved from neglect and near ruin. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and sister. Visitation for Mrs. Barreras will be Thursday, May 13 at 6:00 with Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at the San Miguel Church at La Bajada Village. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 14 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Pena Blanca with The Reverend Joe Redinbo, celebrant. Interment will immediately follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Pena Blanca. Pallbearers are Robert A. and Bruce G. Barreras, Richard D. and Arthur D. Barbosa, Darrin N. Emma K. Broell, 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1941, died Friday, May 7, 1999. She is survived by her son, Frederick Broell and wife, MaryAnn of Plano, TX; daughters, Marilyn Rossignol of Albuquerque, Barbara Coughlin and husband, Jim of Las Vegas, NV, and Alberta Hamilton of San Jose, CA; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; brother, Charlie Raymond; sister, Bertha Staehlin; great-grandson, David Deuel; and son-in-law, Rosy Rossignol. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held on Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Orva B. Derryberry, 86, an Albuquerque resident since 1946, passed away Tuesday, May 4th. She was involved in numerous community organizations and was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Chapter V of P.E.O., and Daughters of the Nile. Orva was a secretary and retired from the State Highway Dept. For almost 60 years Orva and her husband, Bob, enjoyed many activities and adventures together, from camping and motorcycle trips to square dancing, the theater and sports. And while each of her endeavors was greatly important, nothing was more important to her than her family and friends who had the privilege of being graced with the warmth of her beautiful smile, the strength of her constant optimism, and the love of her kind heart. Orva took great pleasure in the simplest of things and so saw the beauty of life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Robert, and both of her sons, Julian Robert, Jr., and Thomas Ward. Orva is survived by her "baby sister", Myrna Remmler; beloved granddaughter, Jill Honey Derryberry; Jill's mother, Linda Derryberry, and stepfather, Ron Kaufman; and many loving nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness in the true spirit of Orva's kind and loving nature.

Joanne Christie Mossey Ford, 57, of Albuquerque, died Saturday, May 8, 1999. Mrs. Ford was a native of Hyannis, Massachusetts. She was a resident of Albuquerque and a former resident of Pensacola, Florida. Survivors include her husband, John K. Ford of Albuquerque; sons, Darryl Ford of Loxley, AL, Eugene Wiederkehr of Havelock, NC; brothers, Roger Chicoine of Tres Pinos, CA, Barry Mossey, Dwayne Mossey, Jerry Mossey, all from Cape Cod, MA; sister, Sandra Schwarz of Sea Bright, NJ, Bonnie Mossey of Cape Cod, MA; and granddaughter, Ashleigh Barnes of California. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at the Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Bayview Memorial Park. Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Mr. Gilbert D. "Wikie" Garcia, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 10, 1999. Mr. Garcia is survived by his sons, Frankie Flores and wife, Gloria, and Eugene Flores; four sisters, Theresa Madrid and husband, Alberto, Molly Otero and husband, Caesar, Betty Ann Garcia, and Lillian Araiza and husband, Tim; three brothers, Isaias Garcia and wife, Tomasita, Tranquilino Garcia and wife, Marcella and Paul Garcia and wife, Mary Ann; three grandchildren, Alisha, Frankie Jr., and Jesse; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Catholic church. A Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, with visitation after 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW, with final viewing at the church after 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery. Oleta Waldon Giroux, 78, passed away Sunday evening, May 9, 1999. She was born in Tuttle, OK to James and Helen Waldon, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Clyde; five children, Clyde Jr., Bruce, Sharon Muncy and husband, Roy, Kat and Debbie Chavez and husband, Henry; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jack and Bob Waldon. Oleta was the head occupational nurse at Hughes Aircraft Company in El Segundo, CA. After 25 years at Hughes, she retired and moved to Albuquerque where she worked at Lovelace Occupational and Sports Medicine for 10 years. At the time of her death, she was President of the Haskell Foundation. Memorial services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m., at The Cathedral Church of St. John, 4th Street at Silver SW, with Canon Byron McDougall officiating. Frank Gunnar Holmberg, age 88, passed away on Monday, May 10, 1999 in Albuquerque. Frank was born on May 25, 1910 in Anaconda, MT. He attended the Montana School of Mines and the University of Montana before going to work for the Anaconda Mining Company. While in Montana he was very active mentoring young men by leading Boy Scouts and participating in the Young Men's Active Club. He later transferred to the Anaconda operations in Potrerillos, Chile, S.A., where he continued his involvement with youth by organizing and leading the first Boy Scouts Troop in Potrerillos. He met and married his lovely wife, Zoila in 1944 and his first son, John was born in Chile. The family relocated to the U.S., where their second son, Harold was born in Anaconda, MT. They transferred to Grants, NM and their daughter, Judith was born in Albuquerque. While in Grants, Frank joined and participated in many civic organizations. He was a Charter Member, Honorary Life Member, Grand Lodge Member and past Exalted Ruler of the Grants-Milan B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 2053. He served as Secretary and Potentate of the Grants Shrine Club and was a member of the Malpais Lodge No. 71 AF & AM. He was associated with the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Cibola County Arts Council, the Ballut Abyad Temple and the Scottish Rite of Butte, MT. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Cibola County Hospital Board and was Treasurer of the Cibola County Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Zoila; and his brothers, Ernest and Gilbert. He is survived by his sister, Loretta Bahl of Seattle, WA; his son, John and his wife, Marcia of Albuquerque; his son, Harold and his wife, Barbara of Edmond, OK; his daughter, Judith Fife and her husband, Timothy of Los Alamos; six grandchildren, Michael and wife, Allison of Granby, MA, Lee of Edmond, OK, Jon and Angela of Albuquerque, Evan of Los Alamos; and one great-grandson, Caleb of Granby, MA. Frank's friendships were enduring and lasted through the years. His friends spanned the globe from Europe and South America to the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. Although Frank lived with his son, John after Zoila passed away his heat was always in Grants. He enjoyed every article in the Cibola County Beacon and cherished the telephone calls, visits, letters or cards he received from his friends. Though incapacitated by the affects of emphysema and macular degeneration, he strived to live his life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by not only his family, but also by the many people he called friend. Visitation will be held at Grants Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, May 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Grants on Friday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. followed by graveside services at Grants Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be John Holmberg, Harold Holmberg, Michael Holmberg, Lee Holmberg, Jon Holmberg and Tim Fife. Honorary pallbearers are Perry Fisher, Kevin Fisher, Pete Halsey, Frank McClure, Ed Bannerman, Gordon McMillan, Ralph McQuery, Jake Abraham, E.M. Mortimer and Louis Carpenter. Amalia M. Kornegay, 63, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away May 10, 1999. She was preceded in death by her father, Viviano Salazar; and sister, Bennerita Salazar Griffith. She is survived by her husband, Milton Kornegay; daughter, Anna Marie Cooper and husband, Thomas of Albuquerque; sons, Tony Kornegay of Vancouver, WA, Phillip Kornegay and wife, Annie of Edgewood, NM and David Kornegay and wife, Gabi of Germany; 13 grandchildren; her mother, Trinidad Salazar of Albuquerque; three brothers, Jose Salazar, Anthony Salazar and Francisco Salazar, all of Albuquerque; and three sisters, Lucy Petrocelli of Albuquerque, Mary Cartwright of Norfolk, VA and Lala Sisco of Hendersonville, TN. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 12, 1999, 6:30 p.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. at the church. Henry "Louie" Martinez, 47, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, May 10, 1999. He is survived by his daughter, Monette Vezelici and husband, Steve of San Antonio, NM; mother, Emily Marquez and husband, Gabriel of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Gabriel, Estevan and Shania; two sisters, Paula Armijo and husband, Michael and Shelly Marquez; four nephews, Marcus, Dominic, Robert and Adan; two cousins who he loved like sisters, Arlene Baca and Vera Chavez; and many aunts; uncles; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gabe Marquez. Louie was a Veteran of Vietnam and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Mr. Joe A. Montoya, 89, entered into eternal rest on May 10, 1999 at Seama Village, Pueblo of Laguna. He was preceded in death by Daisy, his wife of 61 years. Mr. Montoya leaves to mourn and honor his memory his daughters, Josephine Harry and Eunice Garcia of the family home; his sons, Myron Montoya Sr. and companion, Isidora Dyea of Seama and Mesita, NM, Bob Montoya and wife, Donna of Napa, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cynthia Henio and husband, Leonard of Santa Fe, John A. Garcia of El Cerrito, CA, Myron Montoya Jr. and wife, Rose of Midland, TX, Victor Montoya and wife, Tamara of Farmington, Jennifer Camarena and husband, Manuel of San Antonio, TX, Steve Montoya of Albuquerque, Kevin Montoya and wife, Nicole of San Francisco, CA, Melanie Blackmon and husband, Rod of Napa, CA; his great-grandchildren, Robert Mansfield, Antonio Camarena, Scott Montoya and Diane Montoya; great-great-grandchild, Esian Bernal; his sister-in-law, Evangeline Rivera; and many nieces and nephews at Laguna and Santa Ana Pueblo; and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Montoya was employed by the AT & SF Railroad in Richmond, CA. Upon his retirement in 1974, he was awarded a Certificate of Honor for 31 years of service. He was an avid football fan, especially of the San Francisco 49'ers, one of the 49'er faithful. Mr. Montoya was a member of the Catholic church. Joanna Nicholas Nellos, 87, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died Sunday, May 9, 1999. She is survived by her four sons, George Ernie, Constantine, and Basil; grandchildren, Nicholas George, Robert, Nicholas Basil, Nicholas Constantine, John Constantine, Joanna Constantine, Anastasia Nicol, and Efstratios; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Nellos was born in 1911 in Mitilini, Greece. Her beloved husband, Nicholas George Nellos, born in Pyrgos, Greece, preceded her in death in 1959. Trisagion will be held Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Father Mario Giannopoulos reciting. Angelina "Angie" Martinez Pacheco, age 70. Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 13th, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas, NM, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 14th, 10:00 a.m., at St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM. Allen Streder, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away May 10, 1999. He was retired from Navajo Freight Lines and a charter member of IAM Local 1635. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Streder of Albuquerque; his daughter, Linda Helsel; grandson, Fred Helsel and wife, Nancy; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Branden; sister, Almedia Buaton of Rock Island, IL; and brother, Adam Jackson of Brush Prairie, WA. Mr. Streder was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was a special Grandpa to his two great-grandsons. George A. "Jack" Walker, age 86, passed away on May 9, 1999 at the Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. Mr. Walker was born in Freestone, Texas on October 16, 1912 to William Davis Walker and the former Willie Ward. A resident of Elephant Butte since 1975, Mr. Walker was a retired Crusher Foreman with Brown Construction Company; had been a very active member of the Bethesda Lodge No. 64 AF&AM; the Kingston Lodge No. 16 AF&AM; the Hatch Val Verde Lodge No. 62 AF&AM; Shriners; former volunteer with the Elephant Butte Lakeshore Volunteer Fire Department and the Baptist Church. He leaves to mourn his passing his sisters, Barbara Hayes of Eunice, NM, Mary Ann McCann of Corsicana, TX, Lyn Wetzel of Kenai, AK; his step-mother, Margaret Walker of Eunice, NM; was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Lois Walker in 1995; and a brother, James W. Walker in 1982. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 13, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hillsboro Cemetery with Rev. Mr. Felipe Adriano Archuleta, 74, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 9, 2000. Mr. Archuleta was the beloved husband of 47 years to Mrs. Florentina Martinez. He is also survived by two sons, Phillip A. Archuleta Jr. and wife, Sandra and Floyd A. Archuleta and wife, Debra; three sisters, Ramonita Roybal, Odilia Baker and Julia Casados; four brothers, Pablin Archuleta and wife, Margaret, Jose Archuleta and wife, Frances, David Archuleta and wife, Lydia and Mike Archuleta and wife, Teddie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rosenaldo Martinez, Mamalia Valdez and Beatrice Montano; six grandchildren, Laura, Phillip III, Joshua, Victoria, Jessica and Hannah; one great-grandchild, Brianna. Mr. Archuleta was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. A Funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m., at Victory Love Fellowship Church, 7201 Central NW. Mervin D. Carman, 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2000. Carman was born April 19, 1920 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He grew up and graduated from high school in Martinsville, Indiana, where he played on the football and basketball teams. He entered the US Army at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN in 1942 and served as an air to ground, point to point radio transmitter/receiver operator. He was awarded the Asian-Pacific Service Medal for duties performed in Hawaii in 1943. Carmen met Charlotte Virginia Hobson after the close of WWII and they married on August 24, 1946 and raised their children. They moved to Albuquerque in 1985 after Carman retired from R.R. Donnelly and Sons Company, where he served primarily as a line up pressman for 40 years. Carman will be remembered by those close to him as a loving father, a quiet, gentle man with an enduring love for reading and an enthusiasm for spectator sports-in particular, college basketball and professional golf-and will be missed by friends in his bridge circles. He was also an avid fisherman. Carman was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Carman; and sisters, Catherine Carman and Madge Corbin. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte of Albuquerque; two children, Susan Spiegel and her husband, Bryan of Albuquerque, Neil Carman and his wife, Julie of Huntington Beach, CA; one sister, Betty Carrington of Crawfordsville, IN; five grandchildren, Michael Smith and wife, Elizabeth of Albuquerque, Angela McNatt and husband, Kevin of Bedford, TX, Michelle Smith of Bedford, TX, Shaun and Miranda Carman of Huntington Beach, CA; and one great-grandchild, Matthew Spiegel McNatt. A Memorial service for friends and family will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2000 at the Sombra Del Monte Christian Church, where Carman was a member for 15 years. Officiating will be The Rev. Daniel Kapornyai. The church is located one half block north of Menaul and four blocks west of Wyoming at 2528 Utah NE. Memorial donations may be made in his name at the church. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary, Rio Rancho, 892-9920.

Hans Peter Dumrose, 37, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at University Hospital in Albuquerque. A nearly lifelong epileptic, his death was caused by a massive cerebral hemorrhage as a consequence of falling from an epileptic seizure. The body has been cremated and there will be no funeral or memorial service. An offering may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 4351 Garden City Drive, Landover, MD 20785-2267.

Veva Geraldine Ford was born in Flint, Michigan on November 29, 1921 and died on May 10, 2000. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Bunn; step-father, Donald Ford; her mother, Beulah Ford; and half-sisters, Mary Stapley and Eleanor Zavitz, all of Michigan. She is survived by her beloved sons, Robert W. Chall Jr. and wife, Robin, Roger A. Chall, and Thomas R. Chall, all of Albuquerque, and Donald L. Chall and Laura of Rio Rancho; and her four cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., this morning, at Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Women in Military Service Memorial, PO Box 96669, Washington, DC 20077-7784 or to Sandia Hospice, 4725 Indian School Road NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Special thanks from the family goes to Dr. Carl Kupferfer, Susan Harris, and Jennie McCrow of Sandia Hospice for their guidance, patience and kindness.

Mildred "Millie" L. Gerding, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1935, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Millie White McMahon and husband, John T. McMahon; grandchildren, Jack and Mollie McMahon. Her second family includes, Bob and Harriet Gerding: grandchildren, Mike, Patrick, Laura and Flint Morris; great-grandchildren, J. T. and Melanie Morris; Dick and Eileen Gerding, Dr. David Gerding, and Christine Gerding; Clarilou (deceased) and Jim Bryce; grandchildren, Deena, Dan, Doug, and Don Bryce. She is also survived by her brother, Wilford Cheedle of Grand Junction, CO; niece, Marie Reed of Grand Junction, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Fred A. White, whom she married on December 3, 1940; and her second husband of eight years, Lou Gerding, whom she married on August 15, 1971. Mrs. Gerding moved to Albuquerque from Colorado as a nurse to work for Presbyterian Hospital. She had been active in many community organizations; she was president of Junior League of Albuquerque in 1944, active in setting up Cerebral Palsy Day School, and the June Music Festival. She was a board member and active in Community Concerts and the Albuquerque Little Theatre, where she also participated in some productions. She was a leader in Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, where she also served as a board member. Mrs. Gerding taught Red Cross Nurses Aid and Home Nursing Courses. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 16th, 10:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 4th and Lead SW, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Rio Grande Zoological Society, 903 10th St. SW, 87102, or to the New Mexico Boy's Ranch, 6209 Hendrix NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87110. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
