Cheryl Susan Gerharter Purtell, 42, went to be with her Lord on June 7, 2003 after a very brief bout with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Terence; her parents, Vern and Sallie Gerharter; brothers, Paul and David (and spouse Darla); and sisters, Janet and Karen (and spouse Philip Goodman); parents-in-law, Dr. Eugene and Margaret Purtell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cheryl had her own hairstyling salon, Angel Hair Salon and Gift Shop. A deeply personal shop, crafts inhabited every nook and cranny, from the "tortilla angels" to the shampoo station. She was so proud of her shop and we are so proud of her. Cheryl is remembered for her easy smile and warm heart. Every memory and photo shows that she loved to laugh. Mercy R. Ruiz (Marciano) born October 16, 1913 and died June 7, 2003 at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife, Della; daughter, Julianna Trujillo and husband, Julian of Albuquerque; sons, David Ruiz of Albuquerque, Michael Ruiz and wife, Mary of Houston, TX and Christopher Ruiz of Austin, TX; six grandchildren, Julianna Maya and husband, Ralph of Forrest Grove, OR, David, Andrea and Victoria Trujillo of Albuquerque, Ryan Ruiz of Stanford, TX and Anthony Paul and wife, Dawn of Albuquerque; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Ruiz a Veteran of World War II served under General Patton and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and in Baston where he got hurt. He was a life member of the D.A.V. Chapter 3 in Albuquerque, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 401 in Albuquerque and a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. He retired from the Veterans Hospital where he worked as a R.P.N. for 16 years. Gus George Stultz, 87, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at his home. James D. Williams, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 6th, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Wilma Barnett Williams; son Brad Williams and wife Mary with their children Lori and Allen of Houston, TX; daughter Sharon Chrisman and husband Larry with their children James, Kayla, Jared, & Karyn of Dallas, TX; son Eric Williams and wife Michelle with their children Brittney, Logan, Marney, & Chloe of Fort Collins, CO; daughter Marilyn Webb and husband David with their children Kyle and Cade of Fort Worth, TX; brother Cecil Williams and wife Bette of Holland, MI; sister Helen Schuster and husband Don of St. Louis, MO; cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who loved him. Jim, also known as Doyle to his family and J.D. to his work colleagues, was born June 8th, 1932 in Preston, KS to Frank and Thelma Miskimen Williams. He graduated from Preston High School in 1950, and went on to serve with the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He attained his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from MIT in 1960 and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1963. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories after 38 years in January of 2003. Jim had unique and unparalleled experience, recognized nationally and internationally in all major aspects of surveying, testing, evaluating and installing physical security systems at sites of the highest sensitivity. He was active in numerous professional engineering societies, for which he has held local and national offices, most recently serving as President of INMM. He was a faithful member of the Lord's church, serving as an elder for the Montgomery church of Christ for 23 years. Jim raised his children to love and serve the Lord and left an incredible example for them to follow. Those who knew Jim will remember him as a happy man who loved life. Nancy Arnold, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1987, passed away at home on Saturday, June 5, 1999. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2nd. Dorrey Lee Haines, a resident of San Gabriel Manor, in Albuquerque, passed away at the age of 80. Mrs. Haines was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lee E. Haines, in 1991. Dorrey got her pilot's license at the age of 20, and flew from their sheep ranch in San Angelo, to their ranch in Trinidad, CO, to the wool market in Albuquerque. Dorrey was an active member in the Albuquerque Junior League, and of the Presbyterian Women's Auxiliary. She was an avid and accomplished golfer, a charter member at Four Hills Country Club, and of the Four Hills Women's Golf Association. She had many dear friends she loved to play golf with. She loved competition, and won and finished well in many tournaments. She had a hole in one for her record. Dorrey was a gracious hostess, and loved to have parties; some lasting all night. She and her husband, Lee, would fix huevos rancheros for everyone. She loved to dance. Elena Maes, 25, a resident of Albuquerque for seven years, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. She was born March 8, 1974 in Ely, NV. Norman Henry Parrish, 81, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Parrish of the family home; daughter, Sandra Lee Duvall and husband, Del of Parisppany, NJ; and brother-in-law, Charles E. Beiser and wife, Cynthia of Eagle Mills, NY. Norman graduated from Woodbury College with a B.S. in Commercial Art. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II, 292nd Joint Assault Signal Co. and made seven assault landings at Guam, Ormoc Bay, Ryukyos, and Le Shima. Norman worked as editorial production chief at "This Week" Magazine for 23 years. He later was production editor at Library Journal; then was production editor for the Software Company Informatic; making English out of "Computereze." He retired in 1978 and moved to Albuquerque in 1980. He joined SCORE (Service Corp. of Retired Executives) and completed the Albuquerque Citizen Police Academy Course. James "Pat" Patten, 90, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Helen Patten; son, John Patten; granddaughters, Valerie Cook and husband, Gordon, Monica Patten and Melanie Patten; and great-granddaughter, Helen Chavez, all of Albuquerque. Mr. Patten worked for Albuquerque Indian School for over 35 years. He was a certified Doctor of Motors. Mr. Patten was a descendent of Cochise. He was a former member of Gideons International. Mr. Patten was an avid fisherman and he invented the "jet" lure. Services will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School NE, with Pastor Melinda Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
