Russell E. Stansberry, age 92, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2001. He and his wife, Betty, are long time residents of Albuquerque, and members of St. Johns Methodist Church. In addition to Betty, his beloved wife of 62 years, Mr. Stansberry is survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Lillian Genevieve Boydston Tapp, died Friday, June 8, 2001. She was born on April 5, 1911 in Memphis Tennessee, and married Millard B. Tapp on July 3, 1931. Lillian moved to Albuquerque in September of 1982 to be near her son and his family after the death of her husband in 1973. She was a devout Southern Baptist, and was a member and servant of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Memphis (39 years) and at her death, First Baptist Church of Alameda in Albuquerque. She was a member of a Bible study group at the Albuquerque Meadows and taught many of the weekly lessons. She is survived by her son, Charles M. Tapp and wife, Frances of Albuquerque; daughter, Barbara Jeanne Inabnit and husband, Merl of Snellville, GA; grandchildren, Charlene Roxane Tapp Gelband and husband, Mark of Overland Park, KS; Barbara Frances Tapp and David Charles Tapp of Albuquerque; Sherrie Michelle Joiner and husband, Gene, Sheila Tiffany Hitchcock and husband, Robert, Shonda Trea MacFadyen and husband, Brian and Shanna Shea Elsberry and husband, Jason all of the Atlanta, GA area. Fabian "Fly" Trujillo, logged his last trip down the Highway to Heaven on June 7, 2001. His last days were spent at his home in Moriarty, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Abe Trujillo, mother, Flora Trujillo, two brothers, Val Tafoya and Gregorio Trujillo. He is survived by his wife, Liz Trujillo; daughters, Victoria Garcia and Amanda Trujillo; son, James Trujillo and his grandson, Carlos Garcia; brother, Paul Trujillo and wife, Betty; sisters, Francis Mora and husband, Alex, and Lala Garcia; numerous nieces and nephews. He was blessed by his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Griswold and Gayle, Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Malone and family. He will be missed by a multitude of friends. At the time of his diagnosis with brain cancer he was employed by Waycor as a mixer driver. His spare time was spent country western dancing, cooking, yard work and as a "shade tree" mechanic. He was a very outgoing people person with a great sense of humor which he maintained throughout his illness. Dorwin (Dor) Leaman Williamson, 87, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 6, 2001 in Rio Rancho, NM. He was born in Topeka, KS on March 29, 1914. He leaves us to join his son and daughter, Tom and Barbara. Louise W. Winder, 78, passed away June 1, 2001. She was born Norma Louise Wilson, October 5, 1922 in Harper, Kansas to James Spencer and Bessie Myrna Wilson. In 1947, while serving with the Civil Service, she met and soon married Norman G. Winder. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1963 at which time Louise began a career as an Insurance Agent. She retired from the Insurance business in the early 1980's. Mrs. Winder is preceded in death by her husband, Norman, in 1975. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Baldonado, Kay L. Edith R. Wyrick, age 93, passed away June 6, 2001 in Albuquerque. She was born October 20, 1907 in Texas. Edith was preceded in death by one son, Sonny Boy. She is survived by one brother, Leach of Quitman, TX; two sisters, Gerdie and Leatruss both of Texas; one son, Harold of Quitman, TX; one daughter, Charlene of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Sandra, Terry, Ray, Nina and James of New Mexico and Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Lara, Amy, Joshua, Nick, Erin, Brian, Cody and Cameron. Lucille Zambrano died at home in her sleep on Sunday, May 27, 2001. She had experienced an extended period of illness from Parkinson's disease and a serious stroke in 1997. Born in Los Angeles, California in 1924, she lived in Los Angeles until moving with her late husband, Gilbert Zambrano, to Albuquerque in 1993. In Los Angeles, Lucille sang in the church at St. Albuquerque Catholic Church for 40 years. She worked at the Los Angeles Times until her retirement in 1980. She is survived by Dolly Smith, her only child; her son-in-law, Steven Smith, and her grandchildren, Ryan and Todd Smith, all living in Albuquerque. Local memorial services will be held Saturday, June 16, 7:30 p.m. at John 23rd Catholic Community, Manitoba and Tramway. Rosary is at Moritz Mortuary in Montebello, CA at 7:00 p.m., June 29th. Walter A. Adams (84) died June 8, 2002, after a long struggle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; his children, Carol Biggs and husband, Cliff of Henderson, NV, Donald and wife, Veralyn; grandchildren, David and Gloria Adams, of Tucson, AZ,; a sister, Edith Adams McFerren of Rancho Bernardo, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (now Kansas State University), where he met his wife. Shortly after their marriage, he began working in the Navy Department, Bureau of Ships in Washington, D.C., where he worked on the design of surface and submersibles for the Navy. He participated in the development of the Navy's first nuclear submarine. In 1952, the family moved to Albuquerque where he worked in various departments of Sandia Corporation, now Sandia Labs. He retired in 1979 and since that time he and his wife have traveled extensively. He was a registered engineer in both the District of Columbia and New Mexico and had belonged to the American Association of Mechanical Engineers and the Solar Energy Society of new Mexico. He was active in the Heights YMCA and swam in the Senior Olympics for many years, competing at the state and national levels. He was a member and ordained elder in Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Memorial services will be at Immanuel Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The family is grateful for the loving care given to Walter by Zia Hospice nurses and counselors. Major Jose Ramon Baca, United States Air Force, Retired, passed away peacefully into the arms of Christ on June 6, 2002 at age 62. Jose "Ray" Baca was born in Las Nutrias, NM to Alberto & Josefita Baca on March 19, 1940, and grew up in Albuquerque's South Broadway neighborhood. Ray graduated Albuquerque High School in 1958, and continued his education at UNM, graduating in 1962 with a B.S. in chemical engineering and was in the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society. He joined the Air Force shortly after college. He married Victoria Morales in San Antonio, TX on July 16, 1966. Together they raised two sons Rafael and Arthur with all the love and attention that anyone could ever ask for. During his 20-year career in the Air Force, he worked as a launch officer for the Atlas Missile Project in Roswell and in Turkey. He received a Masters of Science in 1968 in Nuclear Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, worked as a staff scientist at McClellan Air Force Base in CA and then at the Air Force Missile Command in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1982. He and his family then settled in Albuquerque. He was extremely proud of his Hispanic heritage and New Mexican culture. He pursued advanced studies at UNM and received a M.A. in History & Southwestern Studies in 1987 and was a doctoral candidate in history. His dream was to continue research and write about his native state. He was presently completing his second career with the Dept. of Energy, Albuquerque and was looking forward to finally retiring in Texas with his wife Victoria. He is a member of the Catholic Church. He will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He valued his family over all things, and supported and encouraged them in all stages of their lives. He instilled in his children a strong sense of family, love, respect, and encouraged them to excel in their education. He was brilliant, kind, giving, and witty with an uplifting sense-of-humor. He served as mentor, friend and a "life "-coach to many people. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Victoria Baca of Albuquerque; and sons, Rafael Victor Baca, Esq. of Austin, Texas and Arthur Martin Baca, M.D., Ph.D. of Seattle, Washington; his mother, Josefita Baca of Albuquerque; sister Dolores Padilla of Belen; and sisters, Priscilla and Anna Mae Baca of Albuquerque; nephew, Ricardo Padilla of Albuquerque; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends throughout the U.S. Major Baca is preceded in death by his father, Alberto Baca and sister, Viola Baca, both of Albuquerque. A Catholic Mass and memorial for Major Baca will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Albuquerque on Monday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, June 13 and his remains will be laid to rest at Ft. Melvin E. Trampe, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, June 8, 2002. Melvin served in the Navy in World War II. He went to work in Los Alamos in 1955 for the Dept. of Energy, then transferred to Albuquerque for most of his career and then retired as Chief of Security in Amarillo, Texas. George Banos passed away on June 6, 2003. He was born in Vaughn, NM on April 20, 1929. He was a lifelong NM resident and is survived by his loving wife Connie of 53 years; daughter Catherine Vincent of Los Vegas, NV; son Stephen George Banos of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Patricia Ann Cruz of Anaheim, CA and five grandchildren; Sean Vincent of CA, Nicole Vincent of CA, Stephen George Wazlik of NJ, Christina Consuelo Cruz of CA and Christian George Cruz of CA. George entered the U.S. Army Security Agency Europe. He then served two years during the Korean War. After graduating from New Mexico Highlands University, he came to Albuquerque in 1950 and retired from Sandia Laboratories as Department Manager after 30 years. In retirement, he was an avid golfer and did a lot of traveling. He will be dearly missed by many friends and family. Jerry Gonzales passed away May 17, 2003. Michael "Mike" Haralson, appreciated from January 1, 1946 through June 7, 2003 and beyond. He was preceded in death by Debra Haralson. Mike resided in the North Valley with his dearest friend and partner-in-life, Toni Minoli. His compassion showed through as he cared for his mother-in-law, Gina, in her suffering from Alzheimers. Mike is also sorely missed by his beloved felines, Smokey and Tasha, the latter exhibiting much of all his personality. He leaves a great melting pot of friends too numerous to count all know who they are. Possibly the most important of these may be his "little angels" who he will keep watch over. Mike also leaves behind his mother, Norma; stepfather, Chuck; sister, Liz; and brother, Joe. Always the athlete up to a challenge, Mike fought courageously against an unexpected opponent. While he may have been defeated in that fight, he will remain a true champion to those of us who knew him. At 4:49 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2002, the decision for the final round came in. Inez Knearl, 95, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1972, passed away on June 7, 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Zimmerman of Rio Rancho; son, Homer Lee Knearl and wife, Katherine of Superior, CO; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Homer; two brothers; and two sisters. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was also a past member of the Eastern Star, the Women's Club, former member of the Business and Professionals Club.
