Alice Adkins, born January 5, 1907 in Chama, New Mexico, passed away April 26, 2000. She was preceded in death by her son, Harold E. Adkins, who was born September 26, 1927 and passed away December 7, 1997. Alice's parents were Edward Everett Hazard and Caroline Isabel Haskins. Alice married Raymond Harold Adkins in 1925. He worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and they resided in Alamosa, Colorado until 1949, at that time, Raymond and Alice moved to Albuquerque and Raymond was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad until his death in 1963. Alice was a longtime resident of Cedar Crest. She was employed by Wilders Press Shop and Porter Construction Company. She is survived by two grandsons, Kurt Adkins of Lindale, TX and Harold E. Adkins of Richland, WA; four granddaughters, Claudette Adkins Huerta of Lindale, TX, Loretta Adkins Gray of BelAir, MD, Suzette Adkins Yoshida of Visalia, CA and Alicia Adkins of Maui, HI; great-grandchildren include Ben Adkins, Anna Adkins of Lindale, TX, Dustin and Danae Huerta of Lindale, TX, Alan Gray of BelAir, MD and Ryan Yoshida of Visalia, CA.
Mary V. Baca, age 83, was called by our Lord to take her place in Heaven on Thursday, June 8, 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, Crescencio and Elena Vigil and by Isa and Donaciano Vigil who raised her when she was orphaned. She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Candido Baca; her children, Theresa Vigil and husband, Leo, Art Baca, Mary Alice Collatz and husband, Arlan; grandchildren, Lea Vigil, Marcos Vigil, Candace Baca and Jeremiah Collatz; great-grandchildren, Katherine Esquibel and Matthew Naranjo; two sisters, Catherine Iaia and husband, Armond and Carlotta Stewart. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Mrs. Baca was a well loved teacher for 38 years, a longtime member of San Ysidro Parish in Trujillo, a member of the Catholic Daughters, and of Alpha Delta Kappa. She dedicated her life to her family, never speaking a harsh word about anyone. Her hobbies were extensive, including ceramics, knitting, crocheting, other needlework, painting, gardening and also loved the outdoors. Mary will be greatly missed in this life, but we have the assurance that she has gone on to her great reward. Rosary Devotional services will be recited on Sunday evening, 7:30 p.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church. The Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning, 9:00 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Mike Shea as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. She will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., where family and friends may call. Larry D. Carruth, 52, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Friday, June 09, 2000, after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Carruth of Albuquerque; daughter, Kelley Adams and husband, Jeff of Marysville, WA; son, Kent Carruth and wife, Dawn of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Heather, Danielle, and Amanda Adams; Jayson and Tyler Carruth; parents, Glenn and Audrey Carruth of Peralta; and sister, Anita Visser and husband, CJ of Peralta. Mr. Carruth was a respected man of his business, church, community, and most of all his family. He was a self described, simple man who put other's needs before his. He was proud of his country and he served in the military, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Above and beyond, he had a firm and unwavering belief in God and family. RICHARD LORIN CONVERSE, age 94, of Mesa, Arizona, and formerly of Los Alamos, NM, passed away Monday, June 5, 2000 in Mesa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn. He moved to Arizona from Los Alamos in 1968. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer (US Navy) and retired from the National Lab in 1968. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve in Phoenix, AZ, Branch #163, and also a charter member of the VFW of Los Alamos Post #8874. He is survived by his daughter, Marianne Keith and husband, Donald of Albuquerque; step-son, Joseph LaCome of Chandler, AZ; brother, Clayton P. Converse and wife, Marge of Wichita Falls, TX; grandsons, Scott Keith and his wife, Lori and Brian Keith; and great-grandsons, Redmon and Donald Keith. Marie L. Gresswell, 84, died peacefully on May 29, 2000 in Boise, Idaho. Born on March 28, 1916, in Detroit, Michigan. Marie was the third of four children and the only girl of Charles and Selma Templin. She married F. Earl Gresswell on August 2, 1946 in Detroit. After residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico for 44 years they moved to Boise in 1992. Marie had a genuine warmth that touched everyone she met, and she taught us all about grace, dignity, charity, and love. She always saw the best in people and encouraged others to do the same. Survivors include son, Robert E. Gresswell and daughter-in-law, Cathy Whitlock of Alpine Oregon; daughter, Kristine A. Hoffman and son-in-law, Julian F. Hoffman of Boise, Idaho; and grandchildren, Jessica Rose Gresswell and Owen Carter Gresswell of Gardiner, Montana, and Katlin Marie Hoffman of Boise, Idaho. Marie's spirit lives on in us all. Ricky (Rick) V. Marquez, born June 11, 1958, was taken from us suddenly on June 8, 2000. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, he graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1976. He graduated from UNM in 1980 with his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He worked with youth before deciding on and becoming a highly skilled paramedic for the Albuquerque Fire Department. As a "Harley" man, Ricky's greatest past-time was building and riding the best of motorcycles. He was gifted with a talent for healing and fixing all things, broken or discarded, whether creature or machine. Ricky made us laugh, he made us cry, he made us human. Although he has left us physically his shining eyes and impish smile will be among us daily and we will forever hold him in our hearts. Ricky is survived by his parents, Joe and Agnes Marquez; two brothers, Gary Marquez and wife, Lorena and their children, Jared, Danielle and Tyler; and Patrick Marquez; his daughter, Helena; and Patrick's fiancee, Shavinda Hill and her son, Brian Sanchez, all of Albuquerque. In Lewiston, Idaho, Rick's daughter, Brianne Trout-Marquez continues her daddy's jest for life and all things pure and simple. Ricky's surviving aunts and uncles are Herman and Adelina Marquez, Sally and Mateo Flores, Inez Vallejos, Albino Saavedra, Bernie and Virginia Saavedra, Eloyd and Linda Saavedra, Pete and Louie Saavedra, Joe and Roseanne Saavedra, Clarence and Mary Saavedra, Diana and Philip Vallejos, Irene and Joey Saavedra and Lillian Saavedra. Ricky leaves many, many dear cousins and close friends too numerous to mention, but all who knew Rick treasured their comraderie. Santiago and Ruby Torres deserve special recognition on behalf of Ricky, his brothers and their parents for being the truest and best of friends. Ricky has moved on to be with God and his grandparents, Patrocino and Juanita Marquez, Flaviano and Flora Saavedra and his great-grandparents, Pedro and Francesquita "Kika" Saavedra along with many other loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends, all of whom preceded Rick in death and most certainly are welcoming him home. Agnes P. Nieto, beloved sister, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 7, 2000. Ms. Nieto was a lifelong Albuquerque resident and a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. CLARENCE J. RIVERA, 73, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Thursday at Northeastern Regional Hospital in Las Vegas following a brief illness. He worked for the AT&SF Railway Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and VFW Post No. 1547. John (TaTa) Aragon, born August 26, 1923 in Montoya, New Mexico passed away June 9, 2001 one week after his partner for 62 years, Lillian passed away. Tata passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; daughter's Mary Lillian Aragon Garcia, Evangeline Aragon, his parents, Jose Piedad Aragon, Apolinara Aragon, brothers, Benito, Charlie, Joe Aragon, sisters, Carmen Montoya and Corrine Baca. He is survived by sons, John and wife, Agnes and Eddy and wife, Frances; grandchildren, Randy Garcia, Joe (Dino) Garcia, Jamie Aragon, Mary Lillian Aragon, and fiance, Leonard Sanchez, Edward Aragon, Jr. and finance, Jessica Ramos, Antoinette Trujillo and husband, Nathan, Jimmy Chavez, Annette Martinez and husband; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Salas, Selsa Chavez and husband, Margarito, Celina Rivera and husband, Frank, Mary Jane Alire and husband, Casey; brothers, Mike Aragon and wife, Theo, Florencio Aragon and wife, Carmen, Raymond Aragon and wife, Margie, Rudy Aragon and many nieces and nephews. Tata, worked hard from the time he was 10 years old. He had to work to help support his brothers and sisters. He would take care of sheep all alone in the Mountains. Worked for the WPA with a fake ID when he was 16. When his country called he went leaving behind his pregnant wife. He was in the 7th Army, 106th Infantry in France and Germany, where he was wounded. When he came home he worked various jobs. Until he went to work as an Ironworker for Local #495 he retired in 1975 with 32 years as an Ironworker. Like many of the Greatest Generation, Family was not only first it was everything. He loved to cook, especially breakfast on Sunday mornings after church when he would make tortillas, eggs and chile. John and Lillian were always together until his Parkinson's got so bad that he had to stay with his sons. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Charles, the 40 & 8, and VFW #401. His patience, compassion and love for those around him will never be forgotten. Dad, Tata we will miss you and think of you always. Esther R. Blea, 57, born in Albuquerque, went to her eternal rest peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 7, 2001 in San Antonio, TX. Mrs. Blea was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Johnie R. Blea; sons, Richard, Daniel and Joel Blea; daughters, Rachel and Ruthann Blea; four grandsons; one granddaughter; sisters, Rebecca Martinez and Mary Van Ginkle; and brothers, John, James and Benjamin C De Baca. Jasmine Mariah Boman, our precious little daughter, passed away on June 5, 2001. Jasmine is survived by her mother and father, Drisana and Jeff Boman; and sister, Kalista all of Ft. Polk, LA; her grandparents, Virginia and Craig Goodman and Mark and Karen Boman all of Albuquerque.
