Mr. Anthony J. Vigil, 49, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 12, 2003. Mr. Vigil is survived by his daughter, Antoinette Vigil and boyfriend, Robert Higadera; step-daughter, Angelica Aguilar; one brother, Ronald Vigil; mother of his daughter, Sylvia Aguilar; favorite aunt, Elisa Rivera; two nieces, Raquel and Esther Vigil; two nephews, Raymond and Juanito Vigil; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mr. Vigil was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Mr. Vigil will be Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Neito. A final visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 300 Mildred NW, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30am by Father Jim Suntun. Edward "Paul" Weiss, U.S. Army Lt. Colonel (Retired), 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died on Friday, June 13, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; son, Garry Weiss and wife, Roxanne; daughter, Karen Taylor and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Steven Taylor and wife, Karen, Lisa Taylor Pollack and husband, Dave, Michael Taylor and wife, Mishele, Julie Weiss Lugo and husband, Edward, Christopher Weiss and Edward Pual Weiss, II; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Jeanne Weiss in 1953. Paul was born on Monday, April 14, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York, to Frederick P. and Hazel E. Weiss. He had a long distinguished career in the United States Army. Paul was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a very patriotic man, dedicating his life to the service of his country. Paul received the Purple Heart during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a longtime member of Bear Canyon Senior Citizens Center, volunteering many teaching hours and enjoying square dancing and ballroom dancing. He was great lover of music and passed that love to his children and grandchildren. Paul will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Father Richard Olona, officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Fita Zamora passed away on June 7, 2003. A longtime resident of Albuquerque. Services will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. at San Jose Church. Burial Mass will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at San Jose De Armijo Cemetery.

Gunda Zavakos, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died Friday, June 13, 2003. She is survived by her son, Christ Zavakos and wife, Beate Flitsch of Albuquerque; grandson, Jonny Zavakos of Albuquerque; brother, Hans Fischer of Germany; and sister, Berta Rupp of Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, John Zavakos. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Tuesday, June 17, 2003, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cremation will take place and no services are planned.

Richard Raymond Chouinard, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away at the age of 38 early in the week of June 6, 1999. Richard had a heart that was simply too big to survive the pain of life in today's world. That world is a much emptier place because of his absence. Richard took pride and pleasure in the simple aspects of this life, but those things eventually failed to sustain him. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Lavonne "Chris "; his beloved son, Brett; daughter, A.J.; and step-daughter, April. He is also survived by his father, Herve Chouinard and wife, Gwen; and siblings, Mark Chouinard, Victoria Chouinard, Jacqueline Murphy, David Chouinard, Patrice Wendlick, and Lisa Chouinard. Other survivors are his grandmother, Guadalupe Vaughn; his mother, Connie Chouinard; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws; and treasured friends. Richard's mother, Margaret "Betty" Chouinard, predeceased him. Richard held an Associate Degree of Science in Judicial Studies. He was also a master coffee baresta, an energetic and devoted Cub Scout leader, and an avid NASCAR racing fan. He brightened all of the lives he touched with his kind, gentle soul and quick wit. He always thought of others and was ready and willing to lend a hand when needed. A memorial service will be held at Quigley Park, located at the 2900 block of San Pedro NE, on Monday, June 14, at 5:30 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at his mother's residence at 2929 Espanola NE. Casual dress is requested (Richard hated suits). All involved express their eternal gratitude for the efforts of the dedicated humans and canines who showed uncommon valor while searching for Richard. Joyce Rosemary Compton, born in London, England, January 17, 1931, died June 10, 1999, after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. She leaves a husband of 45 years, James of Albuquerque; three daughters, Julia of Maputo, Mozambique, Jenny of Encinitas, CA, and Hilary of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Susannah, Anastasia, and James; a sister, Audrey; a nephew, Miles; and a niece, Margaret of England. Thanks to all at Lovelace Medical Center, Albuquerque, where she had the best and kindest care imaginable through the whole course of her illness. Jennie A. Froonjian, 82, formerly of Belen and now residing in Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 1999. Jennie was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, and Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Albuquerque. Jennie was a long time business woman owning and operating Aragon Grocery Store on North Main St. in Belen for many years. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Romelo, Billy and Jose Ray Aragon; sisters, Lourdes Lovato, Margaret Anaya, Flora Gutierrez, Sally Tanner, Peggy Davis; nieces and nephews, Ida Joe Cargo, Kathy Arellano, Cynthia Yanaga, and James Davis. Jennie is survived by her loving husband, Michael of 45 years of the family home in Albuquerque; her son, Paul also of Albuquerque; nieces and nephews, Sylvia Daniels, Rosita and Paublita Aragon, Lillian Herman, Henry Anaya, Rosalyn Mesquita, Mary Janet Rutkowsky, Margaret Rose Anaya, Pauline and Anna Anaya, Gertrude and Judy Gutierrez, Clifton Tanner, Loretta Sandoval, Ginner Castillo, Thomas Tanner, Mary Eileen Hovespain, Mark Tanner, Robert Davis. Justin T. Gardner, 25, passed away Thursday, June 10, 1999. Justin is survived by his mother, Fern I. Gardner; and brother, Samuel Gardner-Tafoya; his grandmother, Gloria Gardner; his aunt, Lynn Kenney and cousin, Dawn Kenney, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Hope and Brian Wantuck and cousins, Marnie and Aaron Wantuck of W. Sayville, New York. The family will see all visitors at his mother's home at 379 W. Daniel Hascup, 76 a resident of Los Lunas formerly of Ringwood, NJ passed away Tuesday, June 8, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hascup of Eastborne, UK; six children, Martin Daniel Hascup of Pompton Lakes, NJ, Kenneth J. Hascup of Wanaque, NJ, Theresa Ann Hall of Mt. Arlington, NJ, David W. Hascup and wife, Janet of Clayton, NC, Audrey Christine Glacken and husband, Gerard of Taylors, SC and Lorraine Romero and husband, Michael of Rio Rancho, NM. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hascup was a veteran serving in the US Army during WWII; he was a plumber for 50 years where he was a member of the Plumbers Local #14 in Lodi, NJ. He was also very involved in the Board of Education at the George D. White Elementary School in Hillsdale, NJ. He was also a former manager with the Skyline Lakes Little League Association. Funeral services will be conducted this morning at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Robert Templeton officiating at Garcia Mortuary 8th St. chapel. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Saul Joseph Jaffe, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1994, passed away on June 11, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Claire Dankner Jaffe; by his daughter, Elizabeth J. Roll and husband, Samuel Roll and their two children, Julia and Eric of Albuquerque; by his son, Allan Jaffe of Syracuse, NY; and his children, Seth and Devorah; by his son, H. Ari Jaffe and wife, Gitie of Chicago, IL; and children, Aaron and Michael; and brother, Hyman Jaffe and wife, Miriam of Concordia, NJ. He was born in 1907 in Passaic, NJ. He attended Harvard College and Law School, was in the Army Corp of Engineers and worked for the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, DC as Associate Solicitor for 35 years. He was a member of Ohr Kodesh Synagogue in Chevy Chase, MD for 47 years and of Congregation B'nai Israel Synagogue in Albuquerque for 5 years. He loved sports, classical music and life of the mind. He was a man of generosity and kindness to all who knew him. Services will be held Monday 1:00 p.m. at Congregation B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Road, NE with Rabbi Issac H. Celnik and Cantor Josh Perlman, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Velma M. Jenkins, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1944, died Saturday, June 12, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Frank Jenkins and wife, Maxine, Cliff Jenkins and wife, Carol, both of Albuquerque, Richard Shanks and wife, Betty of El Paso, TX; daughters, Helen Fabian, Beverly Jean Kausrud, of Highland, IN, Laverne Long of Albuquerque and Phyllis Plant and husband, Bill of Stanley, NM; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; sisters, Leona Treadway of East Alton, IL, Yvonne Wiseman and husband, Bradford of Woodriver, IL, Virginia Layton Dunkin and husband, Doyle of Albuquerque; and brother, Gerald Edelen and wife, Jean of Virginia Beach, VA. She is preceeded in death by her husband, C.Y. Jenkins; daughters, Beverly Fay McComb, Christina Jenkins; and son, Gary Shanks. Arturo Lopez, 43, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on June 12, 1999. Mr. Lopez is survived by his beloved father, Higinio G. Lopez; his girlfriend, Mary Lerma; one daughter, Ida Lopez; two sons, Steven Arturo Lopez and Cory Lopez and wife, Ann; seven sisters, Mercy Wagner and husband, Charles, Mary Belen Burkeen and husband, Jimmy, Rosie Sam and fiance, Al Deyarmon, Tina Martinez and husband, David, Anita Sanchez and husband, Robert, Jeanette Zamora and husband, Manuel and Nancy Lopez and husband, Patrick; five brothers, Gilbert Lopez and wife, Gabriela, Raymond Lopez and wife, Debra, Morris Lopez and wife, Mary, Gary Lopez and wife, Beverly and Eugene Lopez and wife, Patricia; two grandchildren, Samantha and James; 46 nieces, nephews; 27 great-nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Arturo is preceded in death by his mother, Manuelita Lopez, 1990. Arturo was a member of the Catholic church, he loved Spanish music and enjoyed listening to KANW Radio Station; he was a D.J.; loved his cars, was an avid hunter and loved camping. He loved the great outdoors, he was easy going and loved his family very much. He will be dearly missed. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with viewing at the church after 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic church with final viewing at the Church after 9:30 a.m. Father John Shedlock, Celebrant. Mr. Cristobal Martinez, age 69, died Friday. He is survived by his son, Victor Martinez; daughters, Marina Martinez, Deana Martinez; brothers, Leo Martinez, Arthur Martinez, Gabriel Zubia; sisters, Tillie Baca, Mary Lou Christian. Funeral services will be held Monday at the Queen of Heaven Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Thomas Paul Mather, born May 28, 1957, passed away on his 42nd birthday, Friday, May 28, 1999. Tom was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, son of John W. and Nola E. Mather. He is survived by his life partner, Juan Sanchez of Albuquerque; his father, John Mather of Burnet, TX; his brother, Robert Mather of Albuquerque; and his sister, Susie Barlow of Canada. Tom was a son, brother, an uncle, and friend to all. He always touched those who knew him either in passing or as soon-to-be friends, never putting himself ahead of others. Tom was always by everyone's side during their times of need, lending a hand or giving them his last penny if he thought it would help. Tom was a truly exceptional individual the world will likely never be blessed with again. Tom would like us to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. Tom, were thankful that you were, and always will be apart of our lives. You will be missed by all, and we love you dearly. Augustine Ramon Padilla, 42, a resident of Albuquerque passed away June 11, 1999. He is survived by his mother, Andrea Chavez; one sister, Dolores Sandoval and husband, Joseph; one sister-in-law, Annette Padilla; two God-Daughters, Eilene Padilla, and Estrella Sandoval; one niece, Dana Padilla; three uncles, Pete Padilla, Edward Chavez and wife, Cleo, and Manuel Chavez and wife, Josephine; and two aunts, Annie Hall and Betty Chavez. His Father Horacio Padilla; and brother, Denerito Padilla preceded Augustine in death. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Garcia Mortuary 8th St. Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Friends may visit today from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. also in the chapel. Don Perea, 93 years of age, was called home to rest in God on Saturday, June 12, 1999. Don was born in Valencia on July 3, 1905 into the large Ferminio Perea family. Don Perea was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Aragon Perea; and by two daughters, Lillie Perea Jacquez and Rosa Perea; and a dear son-in-law, Maurice Royal. Survivors include one sister, Victoria Chavez of Oakland, CA. Don's surviving children are, Joe and his wife, Louisa Perea of Los Lunas, Dan and his wife, Nellie Perea and Clarence Perea of Albuquerque, Prudy Perea Mondragon and her husband, Ramon, Bea Perea Aragon and her husband, Tony, and Frances Royal of Albuquerque, and Palmira Perea Hay and her husband, Steve of Lubbock, TX. He is survived by 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. One additional survivor is Joaquin Lopez, the primary care taker of Mr. Perea for more than two years. We thank God that we were blessed to have our Daddy for almost 94 years. Daddy will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Harwood T. Rice, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Friday, June 11, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Genevieve Rice of Albuquerque; sons, Truman Rice and wife, Joanne, and Harwood Rice and wife, Patricia, all of San Angelo, TX; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his son, Barron Dee Rice. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Rice began adult life in the potash industry in Carlsbad. He moved to Albuquerque in 1959 and began a construction and land development business. Mr. Rice owned and operated Riviera de Sandia Mobile Home Park in Cedar Crest for 34 years. His work, family and friends were his life. He loved life and always maintained a positive outlook on life. Graveside services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with lifelong friend, William T. Jarvis, officiating. Andres Romero, 85, a life long resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday. He was a wonderful and loving father, grampa, uncle, friend and neighbor. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Gorton and husband, Michael, and Gina Romero; two granddaughters, Stefanie Enochs and Venessa Gorton; one son, Jose Abran Romero and children, Phillip and Eva. Many nieces and nephews, among them, Saadia Bassett and husband, Greg and children, Joshua and Garrett, and Sherise Avalos, Ernesto Hidalgo and Gilbert Padilla. He also leaves behind many special friends, among them, Mr. Fidel Sedillo, Mr. Popo Martinez and Mrs. Esperanza Maestas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, IsaDora Romero and his beloved grandson, Brion "Pablo" Enochs in 1993. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier and was instrumental in the formation of the church choir and very committed in his participation. Andres took great comfort from his faith in God. He shared his love of music by playing his violin and guitar for friends and family. He was a proud and decorated veteran of WWII. Andres will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind. Funeral services for Mr. Romero will be held on Tuesday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Luis Lopez Cemetery in Socorro. Pallbearers will be, Greg Bassett, Robert Ware, Bobby Ware, Leonard Bernal, Allen Ware and Gilbert Martinez. Dorothy E. Waite, 83, a resident of Albuquerque for two years, died Friday June 11, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Jerome C. Hughes and wife, Ruby of Mebane, NC and Llelwyn P. Hughes and wife, Wilma of Albuquerque; daughter, Jeannette D. Culver of Albuquerque; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Waite of Niagara Falls, NY; stepson, David Waite and wife, Anne of Grand Island, NY; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Imson of Niagara Falls, NY. She was preceeded in death by her husband, John C. Hughes and her husband, Clarence Waite and her stepson, Richard Waite. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Memorial services are pending at Mesa View United Methodist Church. Private disposition will take place in Niagara Falls, NY. Beatrice V. Gutierrez-Ybarra, born July 20, 1935, died June 11, 199 (a born again Christian) after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Ybarra; granddaughter, Monica Ybarra; and her brother, Bennie Gutierrez. She is survived by her son, Albert Ybarra; and daughters, Juanita Pimentel and husband, Saul Paniagua, Susan Ybarra-Hernandez and husband, Rito and Victoria Ybarra; her sisters, Irene Moreno and husband, Joe, Fina Gutierrez and husband, Ramon, and Francis Gutierrez. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eliza Pimentel-Andrade and husband, Ruben, Rosa Pimentel, Jose Baca and husband, David, Carolina Pimentel, Margaret Pimentel, Annette Ybarra, Raquel Ybarra-Houser and husband, Joey. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Beatrice will be missed dearly by her family and extended family. Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 13, 1999 and Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 1999 at the San Jose Parish Catholic Church, with burial to follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by Juanita Pimentel. Burial arrangements are being provided by Metropolitan Direct Burial and Cremation Center, Inc., 601 Mountain Rd. NW, Albuquerque, 766-9400.
