Bobbie L. Downing, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Thursday, May 1, 2003. She is survived by her sons, Charley Downing and wife, Mary of Rio Rancho, NM, Dennis Downing of Locksburg, AR, Paul Downing and wife, Roberta of Enid, OK, and David Downing and wife, Cindy of Albuquerque; daughter, Bertha Ann Blewitt and husband, Dennis of Barnardville, NC; 13 grandchildren, Dennis and Kevin Blewitt, C.J., Dee, Scott, Brian, Amanda, Chelsea, Michael, Justin, Clay, Chris, and Heather Downing; brothers, Ben Culp and wife, Carolyn of Tulsa, OK and Larry Culp and wife, Brenda of Oklahoma City, OK She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Paul Downing in May 1968, grandson, Jeremy Downing and unborn grandchild. She served for 26 years in the New Mexico Department of Labor retiring January 1, 1997. Mrs. Downing was very active in helping the elderly and homeless. Her birds and cats were very special to her and she loved the outdoors. She was very dedicated to serving the Lord. Services will be held Monday, May 5, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Bob Butler officiating. Tony Gonzales, 63, born in Clayton, NM and a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, passed away on April 30, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Viola M. Gonzales; son, Raymond Gonzales; two daughters, Theresa M. Kephart and husband, Howard and Diana V. Garcia and husband, Charles all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, John, Natasha and Toni Ann Gonzales, Tanya, April and Anastasia Kephart, Marie and Genie Garcia, Charlotte and Carlos Archuleta; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Santiago and Gabriel; brothers and sisters, Adelina Montoya and husband, Felix, Lencho Gonzales and wife, Lolie, Mary Lou Dominguez and husband, Joey and Vicente Gonzales and wife, Olga. Emil R. Hargett passed away May 1, 2003 after a surprisingly short illness. He was 84. Born in Russellville, Alabama on November 8, 1918, he was one of six children raised as members of the Church of Christ. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-46, and attended Yale University's School of Engineering. Returning to Alabama, Mr. Hargett furthered his studies at Auburn University, where he met and married his wife of 53 years, Louise Cherry. The honeymoon couple moved to Boulder, CO for post graduate studies, where they had the first of three children in 1951. Mr. Hargett was a Civil Engineering Professor for over 20 years, teaching at Auburn University, Florida State University, South Dakota State University, Texas A&M University and the University of Colorado. The Hargett family moved to Albuquerque in 1969, where Hargett was employed at the Civil Engineering Research Facility of Sandia Labs. He was a member of the American Society of Civil American Scientists' for breakthrough work with airport runway surfaces and aggregates. Hargett was an avid sportsman, gardener and winemaker, and he finally retired from his last position at the City Engineering Dept. here in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Louise, C. Hargett of Albuquerque; and his three children, Emil F. Hargett of Rio Rancho, Carole E. Pacheco of Savannah, GA, Armand Hargett of Albuquerque; five grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, M. C. Hargett of Russellville, AL; and two sisters, Mary Zirbel of Morrison, CO and Teresa Wallace of Russellville, AL. He will be sorely missed by all who have been touched by his presence, consoled only by the promise, strength and security of his faith. Mr. Hargett will be returned to Alabama and reunited with his family in burial. French Mortuary on Wyoming is in charge of local arrangements.
Ocariz G. Jaramillo, 93, passed away on May 2, 2003. She was born on May 19, 1909. Mrs. Jaramillo is preceded in death by her husband, Leon Jaramillo and seven children. She is survived by her children, Lucinda Valverde, Flora Gonzalez, Ercilia Rael, Nora Martinez, Isabell Jaramillo, Sylvestre Jaramillo of Seatle, WA and Flavio Jaramillo. She is also survived by five generations of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jaramillo will be deeply missed by her loving family. Visitations will be held on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary with a rosary to be recited following at 7:00 p.m. Time and place of Mass to be announced. G. Allen Jones, 54, beloved husband, father, brother and son, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003. Allen touched the lives of all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and co-workers. He was born December 7, 1948 in Oklahoma, to Gene Allen and Kathryn P. Jones. After graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Allen served his country at various bases around the world. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Alison Crompton; daughter, Lindsay Jones; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Yvette Jones; mother, Kathryn P. Jones; sister, M. Francie Stevens; and mother-in-law, Cora Crompton. He is also survived by loving in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Allen; his brother, Gaylyn Floyd; and his infant son, Scott Crompton Jones. Allen served faithfully in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His happiest times were working in the church and being with his family. He loved playing golf with his son and watching his daughter play softball. For the past 12 years, Allen had been employed by Los Alamos National Laboratory where he made many lasting friendships. John Byron Mcgee passed away April 30, 2003 after a courageous battle with Chroidial Melanoma. John was born in Seattle, February 11, 1945. He was a graduate of the University of Washington and a strong alumni supporter. He was an avid athlete and loved running, biking, skiing, golf and squash. John had a great love for animals. Recently, he was preceded in death by his beloved cocker spaniel, Jake. His beloved wife, Rose-Mary, of the family home survives John. Virginia Leigh "Ginny" Miller passed away suddenly at her home in Houston, Texas on April 28, 2003, at the age of 41. She is survived by her mother, Marjorie Miller; sister, Katie Benedict and husband, Richard and his son, Tony; niece, Amanda Prouty and husband, Chris; and their sons, Brendyn and Caleb; all of Texas; also her aunt, Judi Sinks; and cousin, Steve Westman both of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis C. Miller; and grandparents, "Chisel" and "Jerry" Smith. Ginny was a graduate of Cibola High School and attended the University of New Mexico. She was also a member of the N.M. Arabian Horse Association, and a 1979 Senorita at the N.M. Symphony Ball. Born and raised in Albuquerque, she moved to Texas in the 1980's where she made many friends. Her family will miss her deeply. By request there will be a cremation and no service. Charles W. Lorenza "Lore" Placencio passed away at her home in Albuquerque on April 28, 2003. She is survived by her son, Gus Parker and granddaughter Haley, two brothers, seven sisters, nieces and nephews. Gail Griffith Saavedra, 65, died of cancer at her home on Sunday, April 27, 2003. She was the daughter of Arthur R. Griffith and the late Margaret B. Griffith of Carlsbad, NM. A resident of Albuquerque since 1960, she developed and directed the first volunteer program at Albuquerque's Main Library from 1975 to 1978, and was an elementary school counselor in the Albuquerque Public Schools from 1978 until her retirement in 1995. Her greatest pride was her family: husband, Louis; son, Ralph and wife, Rachel and their sons, Stephen and Gabriel; daughter, Laura and husband, David Buckley and their children, Aidan and Elena; daughter, Barbara and her fiance, Michael Risher; cousin, Karen Griffith; and many other relatives. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and by her valued friends. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held in Albuquerque on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., at the First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle Blvd. NE.
