Charles Marion Gilliland, age 68 and a resident of Albuquerque for 33 years, died Wednesday, March 2, 2000 following an illness. Mr. Gilliland is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Gilliland of Albuquerque; three daughters, Laurie Paxton and her husband, Dr. Matt Paxton of Albuquerque, Carie Thompson and her husband, Kurt Thompson of Ivins, UT, and Lesa Millett and her husband, Scott Millett also of Ivins; one sister, Rosale Gilliland of Weatherford, OK; one brother, Bill Gilliland and his wife, Carole of Weatherford. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Teri, Crystal, Danielle, Briana, Mitch, and Christie. Mr. Gilliland was preceded in death by one daughter, Anne in 1979. Mr. Gilliland was a member of Hydro Lodge #230 AF&AM, Mesa Lodge #68 AF&AM, Scottish Rite, Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple where he served as Potentate in 1998, the Cabiri, past President of "The Air Patrol ", Royal Order of Jesters, and Master Artisan of Order of Quetzalcoatl. Mr. Gilliland served in the US Army and was a member of American Legion Post 14, past President of N.M.A.A.U. for Track and Field, and was also a past member of Rotary and B.O.P.E. #461. He was also inducted into the Weatherford Athletic
Hall of Fame. Viewing for Mr. Gilliland will be held Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. John F. "Jack" Haley, age 79, a resident of since August 1961, died February 29, 2000. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Francis Brown and Margaret Crossman. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Irene; sons, John Haley and wife, Pamela, James Haley of California; daughter, Karen and husband, Jim Bonillo of New Jersey; grandchildren, Jamie Lynn, Brooke Suzanne, Rachel Ann, Tripper John, Michael James and Taylor Ross. Mr. Haley retired after 26 years in the US Navy with 18 service medals and was a member of the Elks Lodge 461. Max G. Hernandez passed away on February 29, 2000. Max was 83, was born on July 4, 1916, and was preceded in death by his son, Dan Hernandez. He is survived by his wife of 64 years of marriage, Virginia (Virgie); sons, Salomon (Sal) Hernandez, Albert and his wife, Geri Hernandez, Michael and wife, Anna Hernandez, Arthur Hernandez and wife Mella, Martin Hernandez, all of Albuquerque; also Ross Hernandez of Arcadia, CA, and Andrew Hernandez of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Theresa Ramirez and husband Larry, and Cathy Mirabal and husband Mike, all of Albuquerque; his brothers, Alfonso, Salomon and Ben Hernandez, all of Albuquerque; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Max was an Albuquerque native and a pioneer Old Town resident. He was retired from the US Postal Service, where he was mail handler. He was known as "Amigito" and "Smiley ". Upon retirement he also worked for the NM State Fair Police as security in the Hobby building. Max was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Philippines, he received various commendations. He was a great boxing fan and won a Golden Glove Boxing trophy in his youth. He was an usher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he served as captain at the Noon Mass for many years. Funeral services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7th and Copper, with Father George Salazar officiating. Interment to be held at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Christopher Ramirez, Vincent Ramirez, Mike Hernandez Jr., Shad Hernandez, Matthew Mirabal, Anthony Hernandez. Gene A Imboden, a resident of T or C since 1992, passed away February 27, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, Billie & Allie Imboden; & son, Larry Gene Imboden. He was born & attended schools in Mountainair. He joined the army in 1942 & served in the Signal Corp in North Africa. He farmed in MtAir a few years. He was employed by James Hamilton Const. for many years. He returned to MtAir in late 1960 to farm until poor health forced retirement. Robert W. "Bob" Jacobson, a resident of Albuquerque since 1997, died Tuesday, February 22, 2000. Roy J. Landwehr, 92, a resident of Albuquerque for 26 years, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sophia of the family home; seven children, Kathryn Smith and husband, Michael, John Landwehr and wife, Joanne, Sister Judith Ann, Joan Harrigan and husband, James, Judy Moxey, Patrick Riley and wife, Delila and Margaret Quinn and husband, Michael; and a daughter-in-law, Camilla Landwehr; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Jr. Mr. Landwehr was born in Goddard, KS in 1907. A former resident of Santa Fe, he had retired from the retail business. He worked with St. Vincent de Paul Society for several years in Albuquerque. Mr. Landwehr was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. Neil MacDonald, 69, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, March 2, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ellen D. Mrs. Guadalupe Monarez died Wednesday in Albuquerque at the age of 66. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Monarez; parents, Arturo and Consuelo Ruiloba; brother, Juan Ruiloba; sister, Margarita Rivera; and companion, Manuel Gutierrez. Mrs. Monarez worked at St. Francis Gardens Nursing Home for 17 years and for the El Paso Public Schools as a cook for 15 years. Marvin Baggett Jr., 75, passed away on February 27, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Reeva Sue; brother, Bill; sister, Beulah; son, Marvin; daughter, Rita; granddaughter, Gretchen; and their families. A country lawyer for 35 years, Marvin will be remembered for his generous heart, fierce determination and sage advice. He taught us the importance of family and to nourish our independent spirit. He will be sorely missed by family and friends, until we meet again someday.
