MAX DAY JR.
Max O. Day Jr., 56, of Albuquerque died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000.
He was a member of the National Association of Pipe Fitters Union Local 412 for 31 years.
He served with the U.S. Marines during the Viet Nam conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Day; sons, Donny Day and his wife Stephanie, and Jeff Day, all of Yuma, Ariz., and James Day of Albuquerque; sisters, Mary and her husband Richard Pierce, and Betty Colyer, all of Los Alamos; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque.
MAXINE VAN HECKE
Maxine Van Hecke, 80, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, after a brief illness.
The former longtime resident of Los Alamos was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Pine Bluff, Ark. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1937. She was a dance teacher and choreographer, running the Van Hecke School of Dance in Los Alamos.
She loved dancing and playing the piano, often stopping at every keyboard in the mall to play "Alley Cat."
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Van Hecke.
Survivors include her husband, D.C. "Hank" Winburn of Sun Lakes; seven children James Van Hecke Jr. of Los Alamos, Diane Lehrkind of Honolulu, Parker Van Hecke of Overland Park, Kan., Tim Van Hecke and wife Patty of Hobbs, Rick Van Hecke of Albuquerque, Joyce Randolph and husband Ron of Chandler, Ariz., and Ken Van Hecke of Salt Lake City. She also is survived by three stepchildren, Barry Winburn of Idaho, Vicki Carpenter of Chandler, Ariz., and Randy Winburn of Aspen, Colo.
She had 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are pending.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a favorite charity or having a mass said for the repose of her soul.
FREDERICK SANDER
Frederick C. Sander, a former longtime resident of Los Alamos, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000.
He was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission and had retired from the Department of Energy. He was an original organizer and had served as a director of Los Alamos National Bank. He was an active member of the Masonic and Shrine temples.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky and daughter Ashley of El Paso; his daughter, DiAnn and her husband Ed Boice of Nambe; stepson, Jason Inman of Houston; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Guaje Pines Cemetery.
SAELAN PYUN
Saelan Park Pyun, a long-time resident of White Rock, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was born in Korea on Jan. 17, 1949, and emigrated to the U.S. after the war in Korea.
She worked for many years as a nurse, and during her free time enjoyed running, gardening and aerobics classes.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Evelyn.
Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Jennifer Pyun of New York City; her mother, Sung Sook Park of Stamford, Conn.; her brother, Jaehoon Park, his wife Kimberly and their son Matthew of Darien, Conn.; and her sister, Saehyang Chung, of Pohang, South Korea.
She was buried on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, alongside her daughter, Evelyn, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.

WALTER GOAD
Walter Goad died Nov. 2, 2000, of a hemorrhagic stroke.
He earned a Ph.D. in physics from Duke University. He came to Los Alamos in 1950, where he was a member of the team that developed the first thermonuclear weapons. He was a fellow emeritus at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
He and his wife, Maxine Steineke Goad, had been married 48 years at the time of his death.
A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in the Thunderbird Room of Bishop's Lodge, Tesuque.

FRANK BRADY
Frank A. Brady, 60, died Nov. 6, 2000.
He was born April 24, 1940, in Santa Rosa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and he had retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arcadio "Ike" Brady and Eva A. Armijo Brady.
Survivors include a daughter, Lana Brady; sisters, Mary Jo and her husband Dale Bradley, Patsy and her husband Dudley O'Dell, and Stella and her husband, Wade Cureton; and many other relatives.
Rosary was recited Nov. 12, 2000, at Berardinelli Family Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 13, 2000, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Interment followed at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

JAMES EDMONDS
James A. Edmonds, 82, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000.
He was born June 8, 1918, in Las Vegas, N.M. His parents were George and Lois Edmonds. He attended New Mexico Highlands and New Mexico School of Mines and worked for both Douglas and Boeing Aircraft prior to coming to work at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in 1946, where he worked for more than 35 years.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 57 years, Patricia, and his five siblings. Survivors include his sons James T. and Charles H.; daughter-in-law, Carolyn and grandsons Sidney and James all of Houston, Texas. He was a devoted husband, who spent his life sharing and supporting the community pursuits they both enjoyed. He was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather and spent much of his time in support of the interests of his children and grandchildren in their endeavors. An avid outdoorsman, he hunted, fished and camped throughout northern New Mexico. For the past several years, he served as a docent for the Los Alamos County Historical Society and was a volunteer at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, Los Alamos Church of Christ, 2323 Diamond Dr. A graveside memorial will follow.
