MAHLON PITNEY of Santa Fe died Aug. 22, 2005.
He was born in Morristown, N.J. His grandfather served the state of New Jersey as a chancellor of the court, as a congressman and later as a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy. He continued his education at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., and completed his masters degree at the University of Minnesota with a major in psychology. Early in his education journey, he discovered his love of teaching. He began his work in secondary education as a teacher and youth worker with the YMCA. He served as a teacher at Golden Valley Lutheran College in Minnesota, as well as a counselor at the General College of the University of Minnesota. He served more than 30 years in academic advising. He was delighted when after his move to Santa Fe he had the opportunity to serve both new students and community adults at Santa Fe Community College, where he worked for six years. He was a man of integrity who dedicated his life to helping people realize their full potential by embracing the concept of lifelong learning. Mahlon and Marjorie Johnson married in 1952. They were married for 35 years until her death in 1987. They created a loving family that included Scott Pitney, Kurt Pitney and wife Vickie, Katharine Pitney Colgrove and John Pitney. He married Marilyn Tuggle in 1989. They created a large, loving family that included Mahlon's children and their families and Marilyn's children, Sherrie Tuggle Apple, Thomas Tuggle and his wife Susan Baile, Rebecca Tuggle and Alana Tuggle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Mahlon Pitney; and first wife, Marjorie Pitney.
He is survived by family, listed above; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Peyton Pitney and wife Patricia, Phillip Pitney and wife Barbra; and many other relatives and friends.

JOSEPH D. WESSELKAMPER of Santa Fe died Aug. 20, 2005, at St. Vincent Regional Medical Center from natural causes.
He was born in Cincinnati, the son of Charles and Cecilia Wesselkamper. He served as a volunteer for the United Way of Santa Fe County beginning in 1999, became a member of the board of directors in 2001 and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2002. He was a corporate leader, philanthropist, mentor and dedicated family person. He was an active and generous member of the United Way of Santa Fe County board of directors. He doted on his children and grandchildren, and found his life made complete when he met and married Teresa Candido Lindsey. Joe and Teresa moved to Santa Fe from Westport, Conn., in 1998, where he had a long and distinguished career at the highest levels of the corporate world. He was partner in charge of finance and administration for the international consulting firm, Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, now Deloitte and Touche.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Teresa; sons, Bob and Stacey Wesselkamper, Jeff and Jill Wesselkamper, and Gibbs Lindsey and Shena Staples; brothers, Paul, Tom, Jerry and Steve Wesselkamper; five grandchildren; special aunt, Sister Nola Weiner, PHJC; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Aug. 25 at The Cathedral Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe.

MATTHEW DALE LUSK, 34, of Los Alamos died unexpectedly August 26, 2005.
He graduated from Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque in 1989. After graduation he moved to Los Alamos and started taking classes at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos. He worked at Pizza Hut, Radio Shack and the S-Site Cafeteria. In 1997 he was accepted into the Laboratory's Electro-Mechanical Technician Training Program and after completing that program, he worked in LANSCE-8.
He loved woodworking, rock-climbing, mountaineering, hiking, and backpacking. As a teenager he enjoyed building and playing with radio-controlled cars and planes and had recently taken up that hobby again. He enjoyed taking his dirt bike out for a spin and going 4-wheeling in his truck. His passion, though, was his Corvette. He adored his niece, Halee, and always gave her his full attention, even if they were playing with Halee's Barbie dolls.
He is survived by his mother, Claudette (Duncan) Wilmarth and husband Jim Wilmarth; father, George Lusk and wife Janice; brother, Mike Lusk and wife Heather; stepbrothers, Dan Wilmarth and fiancee Pam of Grand Junction, Colo.; Jeff Wilmarth and wife Diana; stepbrother, Gary Michael of Albuquerque; special friends, Bill Horn and wife Claudette of Albuquerque and Wade Thomas of Houston; and many other relatives and friends.
A private viewing for family and close friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 at Strong Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, Albuquerque. Friends and relatives are invited to come and share memories of Matt at a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at the graveside at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos.

JOE DELTON NORRIS, 74, of Española died August 29, 2005.
He was a banker and a real estate agent until his full retirement in November of 2004. He was born in Eldorado, Okla. and came to Española with his parents in 1947. He graduated from Española High School and attended the University of New Mexico. He was a member of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Chauncey DD 667 stationed in Norfolk, Va. and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and La Iglesia De Santa Cruz de La Cañada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Norris and Ollie Sala.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Flora Norris; daughter, Arla Ferran and husband Gilbert of Abiquiu; son, Thomas Norris of Española; four grandchildren; brother, Hoyt Norris and wife Ernestine of San Diego and Betty McGinnty of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many other relatives and friends. A public visitation will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. today in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. today at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2005 at the same church with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

VIRGINIA SCOTT, 82, of Santa Fe died August 29, 2005 in Albuquerque after a brief illness.

AMBROSE MATTHEW LUCA VELASQUEZ, 19, of Canjilon died August 27, 2005 after an automobile accident.
He was a 2004 graduate of Escalante High School. He was currently a student at Adam State College in Colorado and a wildland firefighter.
He is survived by his parents, Phil Sr. and Lorraine Velasquez; brothers and sisters, Noella Montaño and husband Brian, all of Canjilon, Jessica Vigil and husband Anthony of Chili, Edwinia Rivas and husband Nathan of Chama, Phil Velasquez Jr. and wife Sarah of Socorro, Lorenzo Velasquez of Canjilon, Teresa Torrez and husband Jose Sr. of Chama and Damian Velasquez of Canjilon; close nephews and nieces, Brian Jr., Billy, Anthony, Jose Jr., Santiago, Mercedes, Chelsey, Alexis, Tanisha, Lucrecia, Rikki Victoria, Katalina, Natalia and Amorina; and many other relatives and friends.

PETER D. DYKE of Santa Fe died Aug. 30.
He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy during and after World War II and was graduated with honors by Wesleyan University in 1950. After a year of graduate studies in public administration at Syracuse University, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency, taking early retirement after serving in various capacities in Washington, D.C., and abroad for 25 years. He moved to Santa Fe in 1976. As editor and publisher of The Front Line in 1984-1985, he helped lead a national movement to successfully oppose the Reagan administration's plans for civil defense against nuclear attack, and served for many years on the board of directors of Project Crossroads, a nonprofit educational organization in Santa Fe.
He is survived by his wife, Helene; brother, Robert; son, Steven; daughter, Claudia Kean and husband Ed; and two grandsons.

SHIRLEY HERRERA, 40, of Santa Fe died Sept. 1.
She was class valedictorian at Pecos High School, graduated from the College of Santa Fe and was employed at Los Alamos National Lab for nearly 18 years as a computer software engineer. She enjoyed her work immensely. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, and friend. She was a beautiful, energetic woman and possessed a kind and generous spirit that touched many lives. When she was diagnosed with cancer in July, she inspired all of us through her courage, faith and acceptance. She enjoyed taking care of her family above all, and she enjoyed running, playing softball and volleyball. Shirley was also involved with the Santa Fe National Little League and coaching various youth programs. She was a member of the San Isidro parish.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Lucero.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny; daughters, Kayla and Kelsey; parents, Florian and Nancy Lucero; sisters and brothers, Lorraine Lucero, Annabelle Moore, Florian Lucero, Jr. and wife Velma, Sandra Valencia and husband Allen, Ken Lucero and wife Julia, and Angela Sena and husband Matthew; special friends, Paul, Michelle, Jeanette, Doris, Diane, Pat, and Charlie; and many other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held at 4 p.m. followed by a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Sept. 7 at San Isidro Catholic Church with burial to follow at the San Juan Cemetery in San Juan.
