JAMES "JAMO" MERRILL, 21, of Santa Fe died suddenly Aug. 1.
He was born in Española. He had a warm smile, huge heart and loved spending time with his family and friends. He lived his life to the fullest and was especially fond of spending time outdoors with friends and family. His love of football took him from St. Michael's High School, where he was athlete of the year, to La Salle University in Philadelphia. He later finished his football career at New Mexico State University. The love, support and encouragement from his family and friends helped guide him as he fulfilled his dreams.
He is survived by his parents, Gary and Yolanda Merrill; brother, Lance Merrill and wife, Judy, of Albuquerque; sisters, Lori Serna and husband, Loren, of Española, Amy Lujan and husband, Thomas, and Jodi Branham and husband, Mark, all of Santa Fe, close nephews and nieces, Cory Serna and Lainie Serna, both of Española, Daymon Lujan of Santa Fe, Savanna Merrill and Megan Merrill, both of Albuquerque; girlfriend, Michelle Armijo; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Santa Maria de La Paz Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at the Rosario Cemetery.

MERCEDES VIALPANDO, 89, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Aug. 2 at St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe.
She was born in Las Vegas, N.M., to the late Pedro Vialpando and Teodorita Martinez. She was a high school graduate of the Immaculate Conception. She retired from the state Department of Human Services, where she was employed as a case management supervisor for 40 years. She loved to play the piano and her father's violin. She found enjoyment in crocheting, knitting, crafting, cooking, gardening, shopping and being with her family. She kept herself young and vivacious by reading and staying current on local and world events. Her greatest accomplishment in life was taking care of her mother. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters.
She was preceded in death by her father, Pedro Vialpando; mother, Teodorita Vialpando; sister, Maria Vialpando; and brothers, Tony Vialpando and Pete Vialpando.
She is survived by her brother, Marcelino Vialpando; close sister-in-law, Pauline Vialpando of Las Vegas, N.M.; special nieces and nephew, Catherine Vialpando and Mary Vialpando, both of Las Vegas, N.M., Loretta Vialpando, Richard Vialpando, and Angelica Vialpando, all of Santa Fe, Ralph Vialpando and wife Elaine of Lillian, Ala.; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Rogers Chapel. A funeral service will be held at noon Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery, Las Vegas, N.M.

LLOYD VALENTINE "TINO" GONZALES, 23, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Aug. 1 at St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Rowe.
He was born in Las Vegas, N.M. He was a graduate of Taos High School. He worked for Clog Buster Plumbing. His hobbies included exercising, walking, weightlifting, and four-wheeling.
He is survived by his parents, Eloy Gonzales Sr. and Cathy Gonzales, both of Las Vegas, N.M.; son, Preston Gonzales of Las Vegas, N.M.; brother, Eloy Gonzales Jr. of Las Vegas, N.M.; companion Tammy Bustamonte of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Aug. 5 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow on the Benavidez family ranch near San Geronimo.

DAVID LEROY MAEZ, 41, of Hernandez died unexpectedly Aug. 2.
He was employed by the Española Hospital for five years and was currently working in construction.
He was preceded in death by his father, Desiderio J. Maez, and brothers, Steven and Floyd Maez.
He is survived by his son, David Lee Dominguez Maez; mother of his son, Nadine Dominguez of Española; mother, Margaret Maez of Hernandez; brothers, Desiderio M. GERALDINE ROYBAL, 39, of La Villita died Aug. 4 after a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Angie Roybal; and brother, Jeff Roybal.

ELDON H. FREDLINE, 86, of Los Alamos died Aug. 5.
He was born in Lynn, Ind. He later moved to Richmond, Ind., where he met and married his high school sweetheart on March 2, 1941. They moved to Los Alamos in 1951 and fell in love with the climate, mountains and people. They loved to camp and picnic with friends all over Northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. They were avid golfers, traveling in their RV to test the odds of Laughlin and Las Vegas, Nev. Both achieved the golfers goal a hole in one. He was a member of BPOE No. 2803, Pajarito Masonic Lodge, York Rite Masons, the Ballut Abyad Shrine of New Mexico and the local Shrine Club since 1958. He worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory at S-Site for more than 30 years as a design draftsman creating fixtures and associated parts for producing explosive weapons components. He retired in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lucille; parents; and three sisters.
He is survived by his special nephews and nieces, Bruce Hawkins of Rockford, Mich., Melvin K. Hawkins of Bloomington, Ind., Michael Foust of Kissimmee, Fla., Beverly Linderman of Decatur, Ind., and Cynthia Jo Monday of Liberty, Ky.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 9 at Guaje Pines Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church.
Donations may be made to the Los Alamos Shrine Club, Los Alamos Golf Association or charity of choice.
