CATHY ORTIZ, 42, of Santa Fe died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005.
She was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe. She was a beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Ortiz; and brothers, Michael Ortiz and Jerry Ortiz.
She is survived by her children, Manuel Ortiz, Daniel Garcia and April Garcia; mother, Catalina Ortiz; brothers, Marcos Herrera and wife Marcella and Tony Herrera; two grandchildren; special friends, Cecilia Aranda, Janelle Aranda, Carla Medina; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 17 in the chapel of La Paloma Funeral Home with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow.

CATHARINE L. PENNER, 102, of Santa Fe died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, after a brief illness.
She was born in Beatrice, Neb. to Jacob and Agathe Claassen. She married W. H. "Joe" Penner on October 25, 1925. She was a homemaker and an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Arkansas City, Kan., and then became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe. Her interests included gardening, family history and bird watching. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Penner of Santa Fe; son, Larry and wife Dolores "Dee" Penner of Mesa, Ariz., two grandchildren; and many other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 17 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 841 Manhattan Ave., Santa Fe.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Wichita Kansas Audubon Society or Westminster Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe.

ROSE G. SALAZAR of El Guache died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, after a long illness.
She was a member of The Sagrada Familia Del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Epifanio Salazar; son, Agapito Salazar; parents, Agapito and Verena Garcia; brother, Vidal Garcia; and sisters, Adelires Gallegos, Emily Martinez and Tita Espinoza.

MANUELITA (MELA) GALLEGOS TAPIA, 95, of Santa Fe died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Felipe Tapia; sons, Modesto and Willie Tapia; and parents, Juan Gallegos and Demesia Montano Gallegos.

DOROTHY BRANDENBURG, 103, of Taos died Aug. 17.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Brandenburg.

He retired from the Santa Fe Police Department after many years of service.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Flores.

DOROTHY ANNETTE RIVERA, 43, of Alcalde died unexpectedly Aug. 15.
She was born in Fort Ord, Calif. She moved to Springer in 1974, where she met and married Johnny R. Rivera Jr. in July 1981. She loved going on outings with her family. She enjoyed reading books and writing poetry.
She was preceded in death by her father, Pat Romero.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny R. Rivera of Alcalde; sons, John Patrick Rivera, currently in Iraq, and Jacob Paul Rivera, attending Española Middle School; daughter, Sarah A. Rivera, attending Northern New Mexico College; mother, Odilia Romero; brothers, James Romero and wife Sherry of Springer, and David Romero and wife Michaela of Denver; sister, Rita Fernandez and husband David of Silverstone, Colo.; co-workers at La Cocina Restaurant; and many other relatives and friends.
