ELOY G. ORTEGA SR., 74, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, following a sudden illness.
He was born in Chaperito to the late Benerito and Delfina Ortega. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years during the Korean conflict and was retired from the Las Vegas Medical Center. He enjoyed reading, drawing, cooking and playing his various musical instruments.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Benerito and Delfina Ortega; sister, Minnie Duran; and brothers, Hank and Anastacio Duran and Onofre Ortega.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rosie Ortega; sons, Donald Aragon Sr. and wife Geraldine, Eloy Ortega Jr. and wife Helen and Joseph Ortega, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; daughter, Delphie Ortega Taylor and husband Daniel Sr. of Augusta, Kan.; brothers, Lorenzo "Lore" Ortega, Orlando Ortega and wife Viola and Bennie Ortega, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; special nephew, Lorenzo "Pige" Aragon; special friends, Alex Gonzales and Joseph "Suds" Sedillo; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas, N.M. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the same church with burial to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery also in Las Vegas, N.M.

TESSIE RAEL ORTEGA, 82, of Questa died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005. She attended Allison-James Presbyterian School and graduated from Menaul High School in 1942. She received her associate's degree in education at Highlands University and taught school for a brief time in the Questa Schools. She was a foster grandmother for many years in the Questa Elementary Schools. She was active in the community her whole life. The village of Questa has chosen to honor her contributions to the community by flying the flags at half staff. Beside her family, she was most proud of her accomplishment of authoring a book in 2003 at the age of 80 titled "Another Time in This Place, La Vida, Cultura Y Historia de Questa."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Ortega Sr.; daughter, Betty Ortega; infant daughter, Rosemary Ortega; parents, J.P. and Esther Rael; and sister, Maxine Martinez.
She is survived by her children, Esther Garcia (Eugene), Max Ortega (Monica), Bobby Ortega (Andie), all of Questa and Julie Lucero (Mark) of Albuquerque, 10 grandchildren; brother, John Rael (Duby); sister, Elsie Piper (Ed), all of Albuquerque; close extended family members Ben, Elena, Sergio and Natalia Romero of Peñasco; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Church with burial at El Pueblito Cemetery in Questa.

DANIEL PEINADO, 81, of Santa Fe died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005.
He was born in Madrid, N.M., in 1924. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then made his home in Santa Fe, where he taught wood shop in the Bernalillo and Santa Fe public schools for 31 years. He touched many lives throughout his career and throughout his commitment to his church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Ortega Peinado; family, Edward Peinado and wife Viola, David Peinado and wife Roberta, Ernest Peinado and wife Patricia and daughter, Angela Peinado Stormo; eight grandchildren; sisters, Domi Flock, Josephine Goodman and husband Tom, Alice Rivera and husband Mariano, Elia Parkin and husband Don; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Spanish Baptist Church, 1420 Cerrillos Road, with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

HELEN RAEL, of Albuquerque and formerly of Santa Fe, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, of cancer.
She graduated in 1978 from Santa Fe High School, then attended the College of Santa Fe and New Mexico State University, earning a bachelor's degree in accounting. She then earned a teaching degree at the University of New Mexico and taught keyboarding and accounting at Santa Fe High School.
She was preceded in death by her father, Trinidad Silva.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Rael; children, Amanda, Nick, and Angelique (Honey); mother, Connie Smith; siblings, David Silva and wife Felice, Steve Silva and wife Eileen, and Theresa Montoya; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the same church with burial to follow at the Rosario Cemetery.

JOSE GREGORIO SALAZAR, 67, of Medanales died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, after a sudden illness.
He married Onofre Abeyta on Jan. 24, 1959, in Abiquiu. In February 2003, he retired from the city of Española after 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his son, Peter Salazar;parents, Gregorio and Josefita Salazar; and sister, Prescilina Garcia.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Onofre Salazar; sons, Gregory Salazar of the home; and Dennis Salazar and Evelyn Maruska of Velarde; daughter, Pita Salazar and Lorenzo Quintana; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a niece who was like a daughter, Simme Reyes of Rio Chama; sisters, Eufemia Maestas and husband Santiago and Angie Maestas, all of Chile; close cousins, Maxine Tena of Santa Fe, Georgia Serrano, Cordila Coronado both of Medanales, Donna Gomez of Santa Fe, Sabinita Trujillo of Tierra Amarilla; and many other relatives and friends.

ROSITA LOPEZ DE HERRERA, 86, a lifelong resident of Chamita, died September 21, 2005, following a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elena Rodriguez Lopez and father, Benigno Lopez; her husband, Alberto De Herrera; a grandson raised by her, Tomas Rodriguez; her sister, Adelita Lovato and her husband, Rafael Lovato; brother, Jose G. Lopez and his wife, Olivama Lopez; and 2 great-grandchildren: Anjelika Baca and Analysia Padilla.
She was a member of La Sagrada Familia and La Union Protectiva. She retired as a custodian from the James Rodriguez Elementary School at the age of 73 in 1993.
She is survived by her three sons and six daughters: Irene Rodriguez and companion Eddie Vigil, Lydia Wheeler and husband Raymond, Romolo De Herrera and wife Rosita, David De Herrera and wife Marie, Pete De Herrera and wife Roberta, Linda Chavez and husband Paul, Cordie Herrera and husband Donald, June Galvan, Joann DeAguero and husband Arsenio; 32 Rodriguez grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; 26 Wheeler grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; 18 DeHerrera grandchildren and great-grandchildren; six Chavez grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 12 Herrera grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 10 Galvan and Trujillo grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one DeAguero grandchild; very special sister-in-law, Anne Trujillo of Pueblo, Colo. and many loving nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
