RUBEN DIMAS, 71, of Blanchard died Friday.
He was born in Blanchard to the late Margarito Dimas and Luisita Montoya Dimas. He was married in 1952 to Mary A. Marquez at the Santa Rita Church in Bernal. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked with Dave Jones, Melton and the San Miguel County Department as a heavy equipment operator. He was currently retired but helped his friend Frank Hausler with ranch work. He loved hunting, going to the flea market and the casinos. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Dimas.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dimas of the family home in Blanchard; daughters, Patsy Dimas and husband Vincent of Las Vegas, N.M.; Priscilla Valdez and husband Lawrence and Evelyn Garcia and husband Joe, all of Blanchard; Shirley Dimas and boyfriend Henry Lucero of Las Vegas, N.M.; and Irene Dimas and boyfriend Junior of San Juan; son, Rudy Dimas and fiancee Luana of Blanchard; brothers, Joe V. Dimas and wife Sue of Blanchard, Billy Dimas, Alex Dimas and wife Viola, Tony Dimas and wife Yvonne, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; sisters, Tomasita Romo of Artesia, Inez Sierra and husband Fred of El Paso, Dolores Sanchez and husband Raymond and Magdalena Sanchez and husband Manuel, all of Roswell, Eva Padilla and Rose Dimas and friend Mike, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; special grandson whom he raised, Curtis Dimas of Blanchard; 15 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Christ in Blanchard with burial to follow at the Church of Christ Cemetery.

JOSE R. GONZALES, 76, of Chamita died Friday.
He was born to the late Jose and Emelina Gonzales in Vadito. He went by the nickname "Caretilla" and was a sheepherder and worked in mining. He was a woodworker and talented carver.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances and Eudelia Lujan; and stepdaughters, Ignacita Sandoval and Cheryl Rendon.
He is survived by his daughter, Celina Gonzales and fiance Marcos Padilla of Chamita; companion and Celina's mom, Shirley Vasquez of Dixon; daughters, Marie Atencio and husband Donald of Dixon and Eva Samora and companion Calvin Romero of Lyden; sisters, Laura Lujan of Vadito, Cricensia Espinoza and Anita Mondragon, both of Pueblo, Colo., and Begnina
Hall of Lake Alfred, Fla.; brother, Maraceo Gonzales; stepsons, Alfred Fresquez and wife Pam of Colorado, Bonifacio Vasquez and wife Sandra of Española and George Vasquez and wife Lorraine of Peñasco; one grandaughter; step-grandchildren, and many other relatives.
Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today at San Antonio De Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco with burial to follow at Vadito Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends afterwards at the Vadito Community Center for fellowship and a meal.

CARL HORWICH, 84, of Santa Fe died Monday.
He was born in Detroit to the late Wolfe and Anna Horwich. He was a graduate of Wayne University and served as a captain in the Army during World War II. He married Minnie Jo Curtis in 1952. They later moved to Bedford, N.Y. where he began his career as a much loved and respected teacher at Copper Beach Middle School.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Jo; son, Jim and wife Tammy of Santa Fe; daughter, Lee Anne and husband Stephen DeNigris of Chester, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.

DORIS A. KREYER, 85, of Santa Fe died Saturday after a brief illness.
She was born in New Canaan, Conn., the daughter of Howard Pickett and Emma Kline. She married Lawrence S. Kreyer in California in 1983. She was a senior administrative assistant at EG&G in Santa Barbara, Calif., from 1960 to 1983. She was also employed as a secretary for the Goleta Community Church and a member of Toastmaster's International.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip E. Reith.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Kreyer of Santa Fe; daughters, Linda Roye and Diane Reith, both of Sacramento, Calif.; son, Robert Reith of Santa Barbara; sisters, Mildred Buchananan of Sarasota, Fla. and Ruth Bode of Portland, Maine; brother, Kenneth Pickett of Stanford, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and many other relatives.

WILLIAM J. LIZUT, 81, of Santa Fe died suddenly Thursday.
He was preparing for his swim competition at the New Mexico Senior Olympics State Games in Las Cruces. He was born in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He was the flight engineer and top turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He flew 40 combat missions in the European Theater including two missions to the Ploesti oil refinery complex and two D-Day support missions. He was employed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, first with the weapons development group followed by the engineering services organization, from 1956 until his retirement in 1988. He was active in York Rite Freemasons and held the top offices of the chapter, council and commandry of Pajarito Lodge in Los Alamos. He held officer positions in the Los Alamos and Santa Fe lodges of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks. He was a licensed private airplane pilot and enjoyed flying to various parts of the Southwest. He and his wife were active square dancers, round dancers and ballroom dancers. He instructed round dancing and ballroom dancing for many years and traveled extensively to dance festivals. He was active in the Senior Olympics since 1988, winning State Game medals in track and field, dancing, bowling and air gun. He worked on home improvement projects. At the time of his death, he was taking woodworking classes and completing the upstairs library construction project.
He is survived by his wife, Nona Lizut; son, Roger Lizut and wife Sandra Rokoff-Lizut; five grandchildren; stepson, Charles Price and wife Kate Hollander.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at McGee Memorial Chapel followed by a memorial service. A military burial ceremony will follow at 2 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

ESTELLA GONZALES, 89, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Sunday after a long illness. She was born in Raton. She was a graduate of Pecos High School and attended New Mexico Normal University, now New Mexico Highlands University. She taught school in San Jose, San Miguel and Grants. She married Luis Gonzales in 1938 in San Miguel. She was active with the BPO Elks Lodge No. 406. She and her husband founded Estella's Café in 1950. She enjoyed sharing her recipes and traditions with people. She enjoyed playing bingo. She retired from active life in 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Cecilia Lopez Ortiz; husband, Luis Gonzales; daughter, Anna Marie Jaramillo; brother, Max Ortiz; and sisters, Cornelia "Cole" Angel and Abelina "Belle" Tapia. She is survived by her children, Cooper Gonzales and wife Margaret, Alfred Gonzales and Mary Angela Gonzales, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and many other relatives.
