Matthew J. D. Penrose

Matthew John Dominic Penrose, age 10, of Phillipsburg, died peacefully Monday, May 10, 2004 in Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Matt was a 4th grade student at the Andover-Morris Elementary School in Phillipsburg.

Born March 3, 1994 in Easton, Pa., Matt was the son of John J. and Martha J. Frinzi Penrose of Phillipsburg.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg.

Matt thoroughly enjoyed all sports and outdoor activities. Dedicated to the Steele Hill Youth Club in Phillipsburg, he played flag football, basketball, varsity wrestling and was a pitcher and short-stop for their baseball team. In 2002, Matt was elected the Most Valuable Player for the baseball season, a designation which he was most proud of. He was a fan of Dale Earnhart, Jr. the New York Giants, The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Matt also loved the Philadelphia Phillies and his favorite player was catcher, Mike Lieberthal. Matt also enjoyed fishing with his family on their trips to Canada each year.

In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by two sisters, Emily E. at home and Lauren L. of Easton; maternal grandmother, the former Joan M. Smith, wife of the late Dominic "Mickey" Frinzi; paternal grandmother, the former Carolyn Smith of Phillipsburg and paternal grandfather, John J. Penrose and his wife Lynn of Broadway, N.J. and many aunts, uncles and cousins all who loved Matt dearly.

As an expression of thanks to the community for all their support, the Penrose family has arranged for funeral services to be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, in the auditorium of Phillipsburg High School. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, will be open on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for anyone wishing to pay their respects to Matt. His family will then receive visitors in the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Burial will in St. Philip and St. James cemetery , Greenwich Twp. following the services Saturday.

Instead of flowers, the family asks those planning and expression of sympathy consider any of the following organizations that have touched their lives; St. John's Lutheran Church, 278 Chamber St.; the Steele Hill Youth Club, 355 Pursell St., both in Phillipsburg, N.J. 08865 or to the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, 3921-3925 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19104.

Louis F. Penzar

Louis F. Penzar, 92, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, October 7, 1998 in Warren Hospital.

He was a laborer for Atlantic States Cast Iron Pipe Co., Phillipsburg before retirement.

Born January 2, 1906 in Stockertown, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Paloga Penzar.

He was a private first class in the Army during World War Two and was assigned to the 1570th Service Command Unit Headquarters Section. He received the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.

His wife, Georgianna died in 1983.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Wardlow of Pohatcong Twp. A brother Joseph and a sister Elizabeth Fadero both died earlier.

Private graveside services in the parish cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements.

James K. "Jimbo" Phelan

James K. "Jimbo" Phelan, 51, of Palmerton, formerly of Phillipsburg, died upon arrival at Warren Hospital after being stricken at his mother's home in Phillipsburg on Friday, May 23, 2003.

He was an inspector with the New Jersey Department of Transportation for 17 years.

Born November 29, 1951, he was the son of the former Margaret E. "Peg" Kane of Phillipsburg and the late Thomas D. Phelan.

Jim played basketball and football when he attended Phillipsburg Catholic High School and was on the football team when they were undefeated during the 1968-69 school year. He later served as an assistant coach for the Holy Name Saints Girl's Basketball team and regularly participated in the annual Eddie Mast Basketball Scholarship fund raiser.

After graduating high school, Jim attended Northampton County Community College and East Stroudsburg University.

Jim will be remembered as a warm, generous and humorous person who loved life, his family and his friends. As one who admired reading about W.C. Fields, Jim had a unique ability to tell jokes, funny stories and was always a big part of "family game nights".

In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by a son, Daniel T. of Alpha; a daughter, Allyson M. of Phillipsburg; three sisters, Ann Kerr and Joan M., both of Allentown and Ellen Smyser of Union Twp., N.J.; a nephew, several nieces and a companion, Kim Flowers, with whom he resided.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Deacon John Flynn will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Fairmount cemetery , Phillipsburg. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Firth Youth Center, 108 Anderson St., Phillipsburg, N.J. 08865. Funds received will provide free membership to area youth in memory of Jim.

Margaret E. "Peg" Phelan

Margaret E. "Peg" Phelan, 78, of Phillipsburg, died Friday, September 19, 2003 in her home.

Peg worked for 22 years as the first woman police clerk for the Phillipsburg Police Department, starting in 1964. She retired in 1986.

Born November 22, 1924 in Harrisburg, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Bryan F. and Marie A. McDemott Kane.

She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.

Peg enjoyed playing cards for most of her life, especially Pinochle. After her retirement she made frequent trips to Atlantic City with her friends and enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughter's of the Americas, Court Warren 389 and the former Hibernian's in Phillipsburg.

Her husband, Thomas D. Phelan died in July of 1981.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann M. Kerr and Joan M. Phelan, both of Allentown, Ellen Smyser of Union Twp. N.J.; three sisters, Helen T. Nausbaum of Wilson Borough, Joan Kane of Easton and Gert Stoneback of Cinnaminson, N.J.; six grandchildren, Dan and Ally Phelan, Tom, Kate and Molly Smyser and Meghan Kerr; Kim Flowers, who was like a daughter-in-law to Peg, and numerious nieces and nephews. A son, James K. Phelan, died May 23, 2003. A brother James A. and a sisters, Mary K. Rossley both died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 9 am Tuesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Tuesday in St. Philips and St. James Catholic Church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Committal services will be held in the parish cemetery , Greenwich Twp. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6-8 pm in the funeral home.

Donald W. Piatt

Donald W. Piatt, 78, of Palmer Twp., died Sunday, November 17, 1996 in the Eastwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilson Boro.

He was a former code administrator for Palmer Twp. for approximately 10 years, retiring in 1983. He previously worked as office manager for the former Trans-o-Gram of Easton.

Born January 30, 1918 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Floyd and Sara Hazard Piatt.

He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Lutheran Church, Easton. and the Palmer Twp. Fire Co.

He graduated Churchman's Business School, Easton.

In 1980, he received an accommodation from the Joint Veteran's Council of Easton for forty-two years of service in organizing the Memorial Day Float that is launched each year in the Delaware River at the Northampton Street Bridge. His father preceded him in this position.

A member of the local civil defense, he was awarded an accommodation in 1980 for training in an Advanced Radiological Defense Officers Course at the Defense Civil Preparedness Staff College in Battle Creek, Mich.

He and his wife, the former Mildred Wagner observed their twenty-eighth wedding anniversary last December 16.

He is survived by his wife. A sister, Helen Conine died earlier.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Easton Heights cemetery , Easton. There will be no calling hours.

The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling arrangements.

The family requests memorials to the Suburban Rescue Squad, 3231 Freemansburg Ave., Easton, PA 18045.

Christopher J. Piazza

Christopher J. Piazza, 84, of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 in Easton Hospital.

For nearly 40 years, Mr. Piazza worked with his father and brothers at the former Joseph Piazza and Sons Dry Cleaners on South Main St., Phillipsburg as a tailor and dry cleaner. He later worked in the Cameron Division Offices of Ingersoll-Rand, Phillipsburg for 19 years until his retirement in 1983.

Born December 20, 1918 in Lopatcong Twp., he was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Ciappa Piazza.

He was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.

Mr. Piazza enjoyed hunting and the art of taxidermy which he learned from his father.

The owner of a 1955 Buick Roadmaster, he was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. The year of the car signifies the year he and his wife of 48 years, the former Natalie R. Stefano were married . They married January 15, 1955. The photo above is from their wedding day.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Josephine Kavcak and her husband Edward of Forks Twp.; two grandsons, Christopher and Brian; a brother James of Phillipsburg and a sister, Sister Francis Joseph, of Williamsville, N.Y. Three brothers Frederick, Charles and Frank and a sister, Concetta Sagliani all died earlier.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in the church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Entombment will be in the Holy Apostle's Mausoleum, Greenwich Twp., N.J. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Shea M. Picht

Shea Montana Picht, 17, of Wilson Borough, died early Sunday, January 21, 2007 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, as a result of injuries she received from a motor vehicle accident in Whitehall Township Saturday night.

Shea was a senior at Wilson Borough High School where she was a member of the Drama Club and sang in the Wilsonaires Choirs. Shea was also a supervisor for the K-Mart in Wilson Borough. She wanted to become a nurse since 1993 and had just received a letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill. Shea enjoyed being with her friends bowling, going to dinner and many other activities. Her family will remember Shea for her love of her family, friends, being crazy about cleaning and wanting to save her babysitting money to buy a Cadillac Escalade.

Born June 12, 1989 in Phillipsburg, she was a daughter of Patricia Frankenfield Lair and her husband, Bruce, of Wilson Borough and Kevin T. Picht of Whitehall.

In addition to her parents, Shea is survived by her maternal grandmother, Patricia Ivey Frankenfield of Phillipsburg; paternal grandmother Lilliam J. Picht of Lopatcong Twp.; a brother, Kevin T. Picht, II, at home; three sisters, Heathers L. Ensley of Phillipsburg, Osheanna D. Lonergan of Norfolk, Va., and Shealby R. Picht, at home; a step-brother, Timothy Lair of Tampa, Florida and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her maternal grandfather, Samuel H. Frankenfield and paternal grandfather, George T. Picht.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Phillipsburg. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, 278 Chambers St., Phillipsburg. Cremation will be private following the services.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to make donations to the family in care of the funeral home.

Kay L. Pierce

Kay L. Pierce, 53, of Easton, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Boro, Pa.

She was a licensed practical nurse currently working at the Care Center of Lopatcong in Lopatcong Twp., NJ. She previously worked at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg and ManorCare Health Services in Palmer Twp.

Born June 16, 1947 in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth M. and Shirley K. Baker Storm.

She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1967 and from the Warren County Technical School's Practical Nursing Program in 1985.

She and husband, David D. Pierce, Sr., observed their 33rd wedding anniversary on December 2.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, David D., Jr. of Phillipsburg and Kenneth of Easton; two brothers, Charles W. Storm of Washington, NJ and John R. of Bath, Pa.; three sisters, Mary Lou Cogan of Phillipsburg, Evelyn M Morris and Ruth Ann Cahill, both of Wilson Boro, Pa. and a granddaughter, Briana.

Funeral services will be private. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Stewartsville Lutheran cemetery , Stewartsville. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the funeral arrangements.

Donald M. Pierson, Jr.

Donald M. Pierson, Jr., 69, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 in Warren Hospital.

He was employed at James River Corp., in Forks Twp. before retiring in 1997. He previously worked at the Bethlehem Corp. in Wilson Borough and Ingersoll-Rand, Phillipsburg.

Born March 7, 1935 in Wilson Borough, he was the son of Joyce E. (Abel) Pierson of Lopatcong Twp., and the late Donald M. Pierson, Sr.

Donald graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1954 where he was on the Football and track teams. He participated in the 100th anniversary celebration of Phillipsburg High School Football in September of 2004.

He was a private first class in the Army.

He enjoyed gardening and fishing and the time he spent teaching his children fishing when they were young.

Donald and his wife, the former Ermadell Williams celebrated their thirty-eighth wedding anniversary September 17th.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald M., III at home; a daughter Melinda Verrinder and her husband James G. of White Twp.; a sister Carol Schuermann of Easton and his two dogs, Buddy and Harley.

Funeral services will be held 11am Monday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp. Visitation will be held from 10am until time of services Monday in the funeral home.

Joyce E. Pierson

Joyce E. “Babe” (Abel) Pierson, 88, of Phillipsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2006 in the Lopatcong Center, Lopatcong Township.

Born June 24, 1917 in Bangor, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Nellie E. Williams Abel.

In school, Joyce accelerated two grades ahead of schedule and graduated Wilson High School in 1934 at age 16. She worked for a local attorney and other area businesses until retiring to care for her parents. She was a great loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and pet birds, most especially, “Cokie”. She loved to visit downtown Easton with her long-time friends. She was of the Methodist faith.

Her husband, the late Donald M. Pierson, Sr. Died in 1997.

Joyce will lovingly be remembered by her beloved daughter, Carole Y. Scheuermann of Easton; grandchildren, Brenda Haschak, Richard Scheuermann, Jr., Sandra Scheuermann, Kim Creazzo and her husband Tony, Linda Rose and her husband Pete, Susan Cinelli, Roberta Creazzo, Christian Scheuermann and his wife Lori, Donald Pierson, III, and Melinda Verrinder and her husband Jim; 13 great-grandchildren, a step great-grandson, 7 great-great grandchildren, a niece and 12 nephews. She was predeceased by her only son, Donald M. Pierson, Jr., sisters Jeanne B. Roth and Elizabeth; a brother Claude Williams and a niece, Janice Roth.

Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. The family will receive visitors beginning at 6:30 p.m. Burial of her cremated remains will be held Friday 1pm in the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp.

Robert M. Piper

Robert M. Piper, 77, of Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pa., died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in his home.

He was a self-employed New Jersey licensed electrician, owning and operating Piper Electric.

Born August 12, 1925 in Mifflin, Pa., he was a son of the late William and Gertrude McBlair Piper.

He was a Private First Class in the Air Force, serving with the 3rd Infantry Regimen, 106th Division in Northern France during World War Two. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal.

He was a former private pilot.

He and his wife, the former Helen Materniak observed their 44th wedding anniversary September 27th.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gregory and his wife Barbara of Martin's Creek and a sister, Gloria Lohman of Velan, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Cremation will be private following the services. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the funeral home.
