George A. McQuaid, Sr.
George A. McQuaid, Sr., 92, of Bloomsbury, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at his home.
He was a steel fabricator for F.L. Smidth and Company, Lebanon, N.J. for forty-one years, retiring in 1982.
Born March 13, 1912 in Chambersburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Harry and Clara Varner McQuaid.
He attended the Bloomsbury United Methodist Church, Bloomsbury.
He graduated from the Pratt Institute of Technology, Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1933.
He was a long-time volunteer for the Bloomsbury Hose Co. No. 1 and the Bloomsbury Fire Police and was a founder of the Share Food Program in Bloomsbury. He was a former member and past president of the Red Oak Citizen's Band Radio Club and was a member of the IUE-AFL-CIO-CLC-Steelworkers Union.
His wife of sixty-eight years, the former Dorothy G. Jones died February 26, 2003.
He is survived by a daughter, Alice J. Stone and her husband, Hugh of Bloomsbury; four grandchildren, Brian McQuaid, Missy Urban and her husband James, Rhonda Stone, Cynthia Durholz and her husband Michael; five great-grandchildren, Samantha Urban, Hillary Frankenfield, Andrew Durholz and Tammy and Kelly McQuaid. A son, George A., Jr., died earlier.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2004 in the Bloomsbury cemetery. The Rev. Forrest Shue will officiate the services. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Bloomsbury Hose Co.
Anna Jane Mecca
Anna Jane Mecca, 82, of Warren Haven, Mansfield Twp., NJ, formerly of Madison and Phillipsburg, NJ, died Monday, May 26, 1997 in Warren Haven.
Born July 26, 1914 in Madison, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Viola Esposito Palma.
She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, and was a former member of St. Vincent Martyr Catholic Church, Madison, NJ.
Her husband, Daniel A. Mecca died April 9, 1994.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel G. of Phillipsburg and Anthony J. of Tuscon, AZ; two daughters, Elizabeth Marie DelMauro of Derby, CT and Margaret Ann Pascucci of Rochester, NY; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Five brothers, Anthony, Gabriel, Pat, Louis and Sebasitian and three sisters, Louise DiStefano, Margaret DiBiasse and Rose all died earlier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday in St. Vincent Martyr Catholic Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, (Morris County) NJ. Burial will be in St. Vincent cemetery , also in Madison. Calling hours will be held 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg.
Alexia Mercedes Medelo
Alexia Mercedes Medelo, 22 week stillborn daughter of Clint E. Medelo and Kimberly Lovenberg, both of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, June 8, 2003 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Virginia Sue Conners of Stanhope, N.J. and Edward J. Medelo; paternal great-grandparents, Dorothy and Joseph Conners of Dover, N.J.; maternal grandparents, Theresa A. Jackson Husted of Phillipsburg and Richard E. Lovenberg of Easton; maternal great-grandparents Charles L. and Ethel A. Harden, both of Wharton, N.J. and Ann L. Fitzpatrick of Mine Hill, N.J. and Theodore Lovenberg of Jefferson, N.J.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Phillipsburg cemetery , Filmore St., Philipsburg. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
Albert M. Meglic
Albert M. Meglic, 75, of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, January 18, 2004 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem.
He was a warehouse man at Dixie Cup in Wilson Borough for 42 years, retiring in 1990. He was also a construction worker for LIUNA Laborers' Local 593, Hillsborough, N.J.
Born February 10, 1928 in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late George P. and Amelia Trkmic Meglic and his late step-father, Stephen A. Bankosh.
He was a Corporal in the Army Air Force where he served as a teletype mechanic. He was awarded the World War Two Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
He was a member of the United Paperwork's Union, Local 412, Easton; a life member of the Citizen's Hose Co., Order of Fleas, Wilson Borough Republican Club, Eastlawn Fire Company, Nazareth, was a social member of the Huntingdon Volunteer Fire Company, Pohatcong Twp, and volunteered for social activities at the Bloomsbury Fire Company, Bloomsbury, N.J. and he was a trustee for the Easton Elk, Lodge 121. He also was a member of the Young Republican Club of Easton.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, the former Charlotte L. Siebler; three daughters, Debra A. Mair and her husband Alois of Forks Twp., Dana L. McFadden and her husband Edward of Williams Twp., Denise K. Molignano and her husband James of Phillipsburg; a brother Joseph and his wife Marie of Easton; a sister, Theresa Degnan-Templeton and her husband Leo of Wind Gap and a sister, Julia Schlert and her husband John of Easton; seven grandchildren, Wayne J. Miller, Meredith Kresch and her husband Bradley, Katie, Ian and Emily McFadden and Nicole and T.J. Vigliotta and two great-grandchildren, Karissa Kresch and Matthew Vigliotta. Albert was especially close to his three brothers in-law, William Ronald Siebler and his wife Joan, Robert Siebler and his wife Lois and Richard Siebler and his wife Ann and four sisters in-law, Jean Kupper and her husband Henni and Patricia Melberger and her husband Wayne, Dorothy, wife of Albert's late brother John and Marie "Daisy", wife of Albert's late brother Stephen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. John S. Campbell at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 132 S. Fifth St., Easton. Burial will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services in the church on Thursday. John P. Meglic, Sr.
John P. Meglic, Sr., 85, of Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Phillipsburg, NJ, died Monday, March 1, 1999 in Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville, Fla. He lived in Spring Hill for the past 14 years.
He worked for the Warren Foundry in Phillipsburg for 25 years before working for Reynolds Pharmacy in Phillipsburg, retiring 14 years ago.
Born July 18, 1914 in Alleghney County, PA, he was the son of the late George P. and Amelia Turnich Bankosh Meglic.
He was a member of St. Francis of Cabrini Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Fla.
He and his wife, the former Dorothy J. Shipe recently observed their 63rd wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, George P. of Easton and John P., Jr., of Winter Haven, Fla.; a daughter, Linda Koenig of Nanty Glo, Pa.; Three brothers, Stephen, Albert and Joseph and a two sisters, Julia Schlert and Theresa Degnan; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 13th, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in St. Philip and St. James Catholic cemetery , Greenwich Twp., NJ. Calling hours will be 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Elizabeth L. Meister
Elizabeth L. Meister, 86, of Pittstown, NJ, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 in Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Twp., NJ.
She retired as the Director of School Food Services for the City of Alexandria, VA in 1976. She previously worked in Arlington, VA as manager of the school lunch program for Wakefield High School.
Born July 3, 1914 in Conway, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Edith A. Nute Lynch.
She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1936.
She was a former member of the Board of Directors for the National School Food Service Association.
Her husband, the late Harold E. Meister died in December 7, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jane M. and Alan Ritchie, with whom she resided; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul W. and Kay Meister of Madison, Wisconsin; a brother, Donald Lynch of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, David and Janet Meister and Steven Ritchie and Alan Ritchie and his wife Julie; a brother-in-law, Edgar Meister of Chadron, Nebraska and two sisters-in-law, Josephine Lynch of Richfield, Minn. and Bernice Sylling of Caledonia, Minn. Two brothers, Charles and James Lynch died earlier.
Private cremation will be held. There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place in the Oakwood cemetery in Austin, Minnesota. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ is handling the arrangements.

Emanuel J. Mereo, Sr.
Emanuel John Mereo, Sr., 76, of Toms River, NJ, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Monday, June 27, 2000 in his home. He moved to Toms River in 1985.
He was a machine operator for 18 years for the former Sonoco Products in Phillipsburg.
Born May 14, 1924 in Easton, he was the son of the late Alfonso and Marie Mauro Mereo.
He was a former member of the Italian American Pleasure Club in Phillipsburg.
Mr. Mereo and his wife, the former Regina Frinzi would have observed their 47th wedding anniversary July 4, 2000.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Emanuel J., Jr., of Lake Charles, Louisiana; three daughters, Donna Six, Kathleen Longenbach and Deborah Campbell, all of Rio Rancho, NM; two sisters, Elizabeth DeGeorge of Long Island, NY and Mary DiPietro of Allentown, Pa.; ten grandchildren, Mark and Andrea Albrough, Steven and Stephanie Longenbach, Gabriel and William Rodriguez, Adam and Adrain Campbell and Shea and Joey Mereo.
A brother, John and four sisters, Grace Andrews, Anna Buttacovoli, Carmella Vegso and Josephine Franco all died earlier.

Regina Mereo, 81, of Bethlehem formerly of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, December 18, 2002 in Fountain Hill, Pa.
Born July 2, 1921 in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Carmello and Concetta (Frinzi) Frinzi.
She was a former member of St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.
Her husband of forty-seven years, Emanuel J. Mereo, Sr. died June 27, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Emanuel J., Jr., and his wife Cyndi of Lake Charles, Louisiana; three daughters, Donna and her husband Peter Six and Deborah and her husband Corey Campbell, both of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Kathleen and her husband Gyle Rodriguez of Bethlehem, Pa.; ten grandchildren, Mark and Andrea Albrough, Steven and Stephanie Longenbach, Gabriel and William Rodriguez, Adam and Adrain Campbell and Shea and Joey Mereo; two brothers, Anthony Frinzi and his wife Norma of Phillipsburg, John and his wife Theresa of Florida and a sister, Grace Romeo of Saylorsburg, Pa. A brother, Salvatore and a sister Pearl both died earlier.

Joseph F. Merlo
Joseph F. Merlo, 83, of Lopatcong Twp., died Friday, July 12, 1996 in Warren Hospital.
He worked in the processing department of the R&J Tanning Co., Easton for many years and retired from the Ferguson Container Corp in Alpha in 1975.
Born April 11, 1913 in Santo Stefano, Sicily, Italy, he was the son the late Liborio and Maria Re Merlo.
He was a Private First Class in the Army during World War Two and received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal, the good conduct medal and the WWII victory medal.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a life member of the Young Men Italian American Club, Phillipsburg.
His wife, the former Florence Springer died in December 1988.
He is survived by two brothers, Samuel of Forks Twp. And George of Bethlehem Twp; four sisters, Josephine, wife of Nicholas Franco of Alpha, Mary M. Merlo of Lopatcong Twp., Edith, wife of Charles Pruner of and Sara Schuler, both of Palmer Twp. Three sisters, Millie Petrignani, Lucy Ramunni and Susan Scerbo all died earlier.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp. Calling hours will be Monday, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the funeral home.
John Frank Merlone
John Frank Merlone, 80, recently of Long Branch, NJ, formerly of Sanford, North Carolina and long time resident of Hamden, Conn., died Saturday, April 26, 1997 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ.
He was a self-employed metal spinner in Hamden, Conn. for many years.
Born October 7, 1916 in North Haven, Conn., he was the son of the late Carlo and Anna Tartaglini Merlone.
He was of the Catholic faith and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus in North Haven, Conn.
He was a seaman with the Merchant Marines during World War Two and had received the Atlantic War Zone Medal, the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Medal, the Merchant Marine Emblem and the Pacific War Zone Medal.
He had been a professional boxer.
He and his, the former Lillian M. Ferrari, observed their sixty-first wedding anniversary last December 21st.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, John C. of Sanford, NC.; one daughter, Patricia McGowan of Red Bank, NJ; and four sister, Rose Verneris of Meriden, Conn., Adeline Ullrich of Nome Alaska, Edith Tosetti of North Haven Conn., and Eva Amendola of Hamden, Conn.; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Frank, Steve, Emilio and Edward and two sisters, Lucy Lilly and Amelia Palmerini all died earlier.
Private cremation was held at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Mass scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday May 3rd, at Saint Steven's Catholic Church, Ridge Rd., Hamden, Conn. Following the Mass, everyone is invited to the Cross Roads Restaurant, 249 State St., North Hamden, Conn.

Frederick Michalowski
Frederick Michalowski, 88, of Phillipsburg, died Monday, March 18, 2002 in Warren Haven, Mansfield Twp., NJ.
He was a jitney driver for J.T. Baker Chemical Co. in Phillipsburg for more than thirty-five years, retiring in 1978.
Born July 28, 1913 in Oxford, NJ, he was the son of the late Peter and Cecilia (Hummer) Michalowski.
He was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.
He was a member of the Baker Chemical Retirement Group.
He was a private in the Army during World War Two.
He and his wife, the former Valeria "Viola" Feltman observed their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary September 11, 2001.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carole Rood of Cranford, NJ and Jean Steinberg of Manilus, NY; a brother John of Belvidere; three sisters, Pauline Ozyjowski and Cecelia Radaskiewicz, both of Great Meadows, NJ and Lillian Lusk of Oxford and one grandson, Geoffrey Rood. He was predeceased by four brothers, Theodore, Charles, Michael and Peter and two sisters, Anna Mae Piasecki and Catherine Michalowski.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Entombment will be in the Holy Apostle's Mausoleum, Greenwich Township. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home on Thursday.

Alice E. Miller, 83, of Mansfield Township, NJ, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Thursday, March 21, 2002 in Warren Hospital.
She was a cafeteria aide at Phillipsburg High School for more than fifteen years. She was formerly a sales clerk at Laubach's in Easton.
Born April 11, 1918 in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Emma (Fair) Shay.
She was a member of the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg.
Her husband, Russell Miller died in 1971.
She is survived by two sons, Russell E. of Flemington and Donald E. of McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Lester, Elwood, Clark and Robert and a sister, Mildred Woolf all died earlier.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the Mount Bethel Presbyterian cemetery , Mount Bethel, Pa. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday in the funeral home.
