James A. Gardner
James A. Gardner, 85, a lifelong resident of Montclair, died on Saturday, April 15, at his home.
Born at 43 N. Willow St., Mr. Gardner attended Immaculate Conception grammar and high schools, graduating in 1931. He went on to raise a family of ten children in Montclair.
The Gardners were active members of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Mount Carmel church parishes.
Mr. Gardner worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years. He joined the Montclair branch in 1938 as a subclerk, retiring in 1969 as the assistant superintendent of mails. Following his retirement, Mr. Gardner worked for 12 years for the Kennedy-Sinclair Corp. in Montclair.
Mr. Gardner was predeceased by his wife, Marie (nee Horkay). Surviving Mr. Gardner are five sons, James G., Joseph, Frederick, Hugh, and Michael; five daughters, Judy Weber, Mary Jane O'Connell, Nancy Bliss, Susan DeCarlo, and Colleen Racioppe; a sister, Mary R.; and 19 grandchildren.
A Mass was offered yesterday in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Montclair.
Contributions in Mr. Gardner's memory may be made to Hospice of Essex County.
Mabel F. Jeffrey
Mabel F. Jeffrey, 96, of Maplewood, died yesterday, April 18, at Winchester Gardens in Maplewood.
Mrs. Jeffrey was born in Philadelphia, and lived in Montclair before moving to New Vernon in 1950. She has lived in Maplewood for the past six years.
A volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, Mrs. Jeffrey was active with the Montclair Red Cross Blood Bank.
Predeceased by her husband, Louis Robert, and a brother, William Fagley, Mrs. Jeffrey is survived by two sons, Louis Robert Jr. of Far Hills, and Richard R. of Montclair; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Private services are planned, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Eleanor M. Murphy
Eleanor M. Murphy, 104, of West Orange died on Friday, April 21, in Green Hill Nursing Home, West Orange.
Miss Murphy, who celebrated her 104th birthday on Aug. 10, 1999, was a teacher with the Passaic Board of Education.
Born in Garfield, Miss Murphy lived in Montclair before moving to West Orange 14 years ago.
Miss Murphy is survived by several nieces.
Services were private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 15 Grove St., Passaic, NJ 07055.
Thomas H. Joy
Thomas H. Joy, 57, of Caldwell and formerly of Roseland, died on Sunday, April 16, at his home.
Born in Montclair, Mr. Joy lived in Roseland for 25 years before moving to Caldwell two years ago.
Mr. Joy attended Paterson State College from 1960 to 1963.
He served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, in Santo Domingo, from 1963 to 1966, attaining the rank of ser-geant.
An avid aviator, Mr. Joy held private and commercial pilot's licenses, and a seaplane rat-ing. He also was a licensed real estate agent.
Mr. Joy owned and operated Tom Joy Trucking, an airfreight forwarder at Newark International Airport, for the past 28 years.
From 1979 to 1984, Mr. Joy served as cubmaster for Pack One Cub Scouts in Roseland.
Mr. Joy is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (nee Devlin); two sons, Brian and Darren; his father, Warren; a sister, Barbara Fetyko; and a grandson, Daniel.
A funeral Mass was offered on April 18, in St. Aloysius Church of Caldwell.

Robert Gugger
Robert J. Gugger of Upper Montclair died on Wednesday, April 19.
Born in Widnau, Switzerland, Mr. Gugger came to the United States in 1927. He had lived in Upper Montclair and Bloomfield since 1965.
Mr. Gugger was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He received his engineering degree from Pratt Institute in 1948.
Mr. Gugger worked as a mechanical engineer for Curtiss-Wright and the N.J. State Department of Energy.
Surviving Mr. Gugger are his wife, Jane; his children, Ellen Krawczyk, Robert, James, Thomas, Stephen, and Colleen Lombardi; his brother, Otto; a sister, Martina Bursik; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A funeral Mass for Mr. Gugger was held on April 22, at St. Cassian Church, with interment in Immaculate Conception cemetery.
Louise Zabriskie Redfield
Louise Zabriskie Redfield of Needham, Mass., formerly of Montclair, died on Friday, April 21, in her home at North Hill retirement community in Needham.
A memorial service will be held today at 10:30 a.m. in the main dining room of North Hill. Arrangements are being made by the Eaton Funeral Home of Needham.
Born in Aurora, N.Y., in 1901, Mrs. Redfield and her husband lived in Montclair for 62 years before moving to North Hill.
Mrs. Redfield graduated from Miss Porter's School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and from Vassar College, Class of 1923, as a Phi Beta Kappa, with a bachelor of arts degree.
Prior to her marriage in 1928, Mrs. Redfield worked in New York City.
For many years, Mrs. Redfield was an active volunteer in Montclair, as well as a lifelong member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Montclair.
Mrs. Redfield was predeceased by her husband, William F. Survivors include her three children, Aubin R. Sander of New Canaan, Conn.; William F. Jr. of Sebastopol, Calif.; and Jane R. Forsberg of Westwood, Mass.; a brother, Robert W. Zabriskie of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

James A. Garrett
James Arthur Garrett, 71, a lifelong resident of Montclair, died on Tuesday, April 18.
Born in Glen Ridge, Mr. Garrett attended the Montclair public school system.
Mr. Garrett served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an infantryman.
He worked at many jobs, starting as a bus boy at the Old Road House Coffee Shop, and moving on to the garment industry, where he worked as a cutter, an upholsterer, and a tailor.
Mr. Garrett attended Paul's Music School in Newark. He played several musical instruments, in-cluding the xylophone, the harmonica, the saxophone and the drums.
Predeceased by his wife, Barbara Jean (nee Howell), he is survived by his daughter, Linda Carol; a sister, Louise E.; four brothers, John A., Floyd E., Melvin A, and the Rev. Herbert D.
A service was held on April 25, at the Drew Funeral Home, with interment in the New Jersey Veterans cemetery, Wrightstown.
Sheila Cetrulo
Sheila Cetrulo (nee Glavin), 88, of Bloomfield died on Friday, March 17, at Wayne General Hospi-tal.
Born in Kinsale, Ireland, Mrs. Cetrulo came to the United States in 1928, where she lived in Montclair and Bloomfield.
Mrs. Cetrulo was a graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing, and worked as a registered nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in Montclair until her retirement 35 years ago.
Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, Mrs. Cetrulo is survived by her son, John; a daughter, Mary Louise Sweeney; two sisters, Eileen Kennedy and Margaret Wanner; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
A funeral service was held at Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield on March 20, with interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Bloomfield.
Dominick G. Pizzano
Dominick G. Pizzano, 66, of Bloomfield died Tuesday, March 21, at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
A funeral will be held tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. from Caggiano Memorial. A funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 94 Pine St., at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will be at Holy Cross cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be at Caggiano Memorial today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
Born in Old Forge, Pa., Mr. Pizzano lived in Montclair before moving to Bloomfield 43 years ago.
Mr. Pizzano was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in the Korean War.
He was a customer sales representative for General Motors Corp. in Englewood for 32 years, retiring 19 years ago.
Mr. Pizzano was a member of the Bloomfield American Le-gion.
Surviving Mr. Pizzano are his wife, Joan (n?e Zelinski); two sons, Dominick and Guy; four brothers, Paul, Carmine, Joseph, and Raymond; and four grandchildren.
