Ruth Mary Kelchner
Ruth Mary Kelchner, 90, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Geraldine L. Thompson Care Center, Allenwood, NJ. Personal: Ruth was a member of the Class of 1935 of Phillipsburg High School. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She married
Lawrence R. Kelchner in 1938. After moving to Philadelphia, Ruth enjoyed a long and successful career as a retail manager for Petrie Stores. Memberships: She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ardmore, Pa. Survivors: Ruth is survived by a daughter, Diane R. Menninger; three grandchildren, Stephen Allwein, Cindy Mae Abbe and Kathleen Freeman; six great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Mabel M. Churchfield of Stewartsville, NJ. Her mother, Ida Mae Churchfield, died in 1960. Her brother, Raymond Churchfield, died in 1995. Services: Will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ, with burial in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton, Pa. Leo "Bob" Davis
Leo "Bob" Davis, 82, of Pattenburg, Union Township, NJ, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Blvd., Allentown, Pa. Born: On December 29, 1925 in Niagara, NY, he was a son of the late Leo and Elizabeth May Vanderhof Davis. Personal: His wife of 60 years, the former Mary Elizabeth Bacorn, passed away in July of 2004. Bob was a truck driver for several trucking companies in the area for 25 years. He also was an antique dealer and operated a lawn service. Survivors: He is survived by two sons, William R. Davis of Asbury, NJ and Peter Davis of Pattenburg, NJ; a daughter, Maryann Smith of Harrington, Del.; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Services: Memorial Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Jane P. Compher
Jane P. Compher, 83, of Stewartsville, NJ passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Care Center of Lopatcong, Lopatcong Township, NJ. Born: December 10, 1924 in Phillipsburg, NJ to the late Frank Porter and the late Ruth Pierson Porter. Personal: She and her husband, Vernon E. Compher, observed their 62nd wedding anniversary on December 1, 2007. Jane has lived in Stewartsville, Greenwich Township all her life where she was a homemaker. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School, class of 1942. She bowled in several area bowling leagues. She enjoyed playing bingo and trips to Atlantic City. Memberships: Jane was a member of the Stewartsville Presbyterian Church, a more than 50 year member of Delaware Chapter #50, order of the Eastern Star, Phillipsburg. Survivors: Along with her husband, Vernon is a son, David M. Compher and his fiancee', Shelia Jensen of Quechee, Vermont. Services: Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Stewartsville Presbyterian cemetery, Greenwich St., Stewartsville, NJ. There will be no calling hours. Jildo A. Marcantoni
Jildo A. Marcantoni, 84, of Shimer Manor, Pohatcong Township, NJ, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at the HCR Manorcare, Palmer Township. Born: On April 6, 1924, in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a son of the late John and Marie Barberini Marcantoni. Personal: He and his wife, the former Paragina Sabatini, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on November 9, 2007. Jildo was owner of Marcantoni Floor Covering in Phillipsburg for 45 years, retiring in 1983. A resident of Pohatcong Township for the last 56 years, he was also at one time a salesperson for the Electrolux Co. in the Easton/Phillipsburg area. In retirement, he was a greeter for Wal-Mart in the Phillipsburg Mall, Pohatcong Township. Jildo was a veteran of the Marine Corp, serving during World War II in China. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1942. He was an avid football fan, especially of a fan of the New York Giants. He was also an avid bowler, bowling in several leagues at Warren Lanes, Phillipsburg, NJ. Memberships: Jildo attended the First Baptist Church of Phillipsburg, Lopatcong Township, NJ. He was a great believer and follower of Jesus Christ. He was also a member of the Marine Corp League, Easton, and the Sertoma Club of Easton. He was a member of the Sim Club of Alpha, and the Huntington Volunteer Fire Co., Pohatcong Township, NJ. Survivors: In addition to his wife Paragina, he is survived by two sons, Gary A. Marcantoni and his wife Teresa of Sterling, Va, and Randy J. Marcantoni and his wife Bernadette of Northern Lehigh Township, Pa; a daughter, Gail A. Zukowski and her husband David of Forks Township, Pa; eight grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Zukowski, Lisa Flores and Jared Marcantoni, Jamin, Robert, Jessica, and Gabrielle Marcantoni, and a great-granddaughter, Isabela Flores. A brother, Frank Marcantoni and a sister, Agnes Forchelli, died earlier. Services: Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, all at the funeral home. Stanley A. Hawk
Stanley A. Hawk, 92, of Shimer Manor, Pohatcong Township, NJ, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 at Warren Hospital. Born: On April 9, 1916, in Springtown, Pohatcong Township, NJ, he was a son of Clarence and Ethel Hawk. Personal: His wife of 63 years, the former Evalyn Adams, passed away September 10, 2004. A resident of Pohatcong Township for nearly all of his life, Stanley was employed at the First National Bank and Trust Co. in Easton for five years. Later, he was employed with the Alpha Portland Cement Co. for 25 years. He was also employed as a traffic manager with Hess' Department Store for 10 years. Stanley graduated from Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1934 and was a member of the undefeated and unscored upon 1933 football team. He also graduated from Churchman's Business College in 1936. Stanley served in the Army during World War II for five years. He served in the European and Asiatic Theatres and was discharged as a First Sergeant. Memberships: Stanley was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pohatcong Township, and was a former member of the church council. He was a member of the Harkers Hollow Golf Club for 46 years and won the Spring Handicap for two years. Stanley was also a member of the Mecsey-Bishop American Legion Post #456, Stewartsville, NJ, the Easton Elks, the Lehigh Valley Traffic Club, the Phillipsburg Lodge #52, F& AM, the Rajah Temple Shrine, Reading, Pa, and the Forks of the Delaware Shrine Club. Survivors: He is survived by cousins, including, Marvin Hawk and his wife Carol of Pohatcong Township, NJ and Arthur Hawk and his wife Heidi of Lower Saucon Township, Pa. Services: Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Calling hours will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Edgar G. Bush
Edgar G. Bush, Sr., 71, of Harmony Township, NJ, passed away Friday, March 2, 2008 at Warren Hospital. Born: July 11, 1936 in Delaware, NJ, he was a son of the late Charles and Ruth Kries Bush. Personal: His wife of 48 years, the former June L. Davis, passed away February 18, 2008. Edgar lived in Harmony Township for the last 44 years. He was a truck driver for the Sanico Co., in Delaware, NJ, for many years. More recently, he was superintendent of the Montana cemetery in Harmony Township. Edgar enjoyed trips to Atlantic City. His greatest pleasure was spending precious time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors: Four sons: George Bush of Easton, Frank Bush of Oxford, NJ, Robert and David Bush, both at home; seven daughters: Jeanne Szlasa of Belvidere; Connie Bush at home, Linda Carley and Ruth Wirhanowski, both of Washington, NJ, Tammy Bush of Harmony, Peggy Quick of Oxford and Anna Parichuk of Belvidere; two brothers, Carl Higgins of Oxford and Roy Bush in Virginia; a sister, Melva Burke of Lopatcong Township; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Charles Bush; a grandson, Matthew D. Szlasa; two brothers, Randall Bush and Charles Higgins; and three sisters, Welda Bailey, Charlotte Pursell and Mildred Bailey. Services: Services will be private. There will be no calling hours. Interment of his cremains will be in the Montana cemetery, Harmony Township. The Rupell Funeral Home, Phillipsburg, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Thomas C. Lewis, Jr.
Thomas C. Lewis, Jr., 80, of Delaware Park, Lopatcong Townships, NJ passed away on Sunday, May 04, 2008 in Warren Hospital. Born: September 15. 1927 in Wind Gap, Pa to the late Thomas C. Lewis, Sr. and the late Ethelyn Bush Lewis. He was raised in Tatamy, Pa and has lived in Lopatcong Townships for the last 55 years. Personal: He and his wife, the former Doris E. Moke celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on October 14, 2007. He was an army veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre. Tom worked in the Quarry of the Hercules Cement Co. in Stockertown, Pa for 36 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, working in his garden, and raising both vegetables and flowers. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan nearly all his life. As a hobby, he raised pigeons. He attended Nazareth Area Schools. Memberships: He was a member at Wesley United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, where he was a former member of the church quoit team. He was a former member of Edelman's Rod and Gun Club. Survivors: daughters, Barbie M. Lewis of Bethlehem Twp., Pa, Christine E. Lander and her husband Douglas, of Bethlehem, Pa; two brothers, Robert Lewis, Sr. and his wife Joyce of Danielsville, Pa and Vaughn Lewis and his wife Anna Mae of Wind Gap, Pa; four sisters, Joy Shollenberger and her husband Dale, Beverly Gostony, and Linda Fehnel and her husband Larry, all of Nazareth, Pa, Ethelyn Lilly and her husband George of Easton, Pa.; many nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Gloria Lewis, Virginia Welty and Thelma E. Jones died Earlier. Paul W. Liptak
Paul W. Liptak, 53, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008 at Easton Hospital, Wilson Borough, Pa. Born: On June 22, 1954, in Easton, Pa, he was a son of Delores Everett Liptak of Phillipsburg and the late Julius Liptak. Personal: He and his wife, the former Linda L. Stimeare, celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on April 14, 2008. A resident of Phillipsburg for nearly all his life, Paul had, at one time, been employed as a laborer with Ingersol-Rand Co., Phillipsburg. He served in the Navy in 1972 and attended Phillipsburg High School. Paul was a collector. His favorite hobby was all things collectible such as coins, recordings from the 60's and old movies. He was of the Protestant faith. Survivors: In addition to his wife Linda, and his mother, Delores, he is survived by a son, Paul W. Liptak Jr., at home; a step-son, Charles S. VanSyckle of Easton; a step-daughter, Christy Fazekas of Phillipsburg; a brother, Mark Liptak of Tatamy, Pa; three sisters, Lisa Miller of Bath, Pa, Vicki Liptak and Carol Santos, both of Phillipsburg; several nieces and nephews, and three grandchildren, Alanna Fazekas, Cody and Alexis VanSyckle. Services: Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Marjorie Ford
Marjorie Ford, 91, "Artist and Calligrapher," formerly of Phillipsburg, NJ passed away at home Saturday, June 7, 2008 in Orlando, Florida where she resided with her sons Tom Ford and Paul Ford. Born: Marjorie was born July 22, 1917 in Phillipsburg, a daughter of the late Edward and Emma Robbins Tieff. Personal: Her husband, Paul J. Ford, Sr., to whom she was married
on June 15, 1940, died in 2000. They had been married
sixty years. A 1935 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Mrs. Ford was briefly employed by the Ingersoll-Rand Company and later privately studied landscape art, specializing in oils. Well-known for her handwriting, Mrs. Ford prepared the scoreboards for the annual Tarz Ford Memorial Golf Tournament at Harkers Hollow and inscribed Bibles for new members of Wesley United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg until the early 1990's. She had served on the official board of the church as its treasurer and was an active member of the Sewing Club. Mrs. Ford had sponsored the Paul Ford Memorial Scholarship in honor of her husband each year at the PHS Awards Ceremony. She was also an avid walker in Hillcrest. Survivors: In addition to her sons, Mrs. Ford is survived by her daughters; Shirlee Miller and her husband Russell of Easton, and Colleen Matviak and her husband Gary of Westfield, NJ; two granddaughters, Bridgette Onderko of Hillsborough, NJ, and Megan Mabry of Alexandria, VA; four great-grandchildren, Wyls Barry of Alexandria, Gregory and Caroline Onderko of Hillsborough and Emma Mabry of Alexandria; and a sister-in-law, Anne Ford Kline of Phillipsburg. She was predeceased by two sisters, Tillie Rousset and Helen Jiorle. Services: There will be a memorial gathering in Florida on June 25, 2008. Mrs. Ford was interred at the Ss. Philip and James cemetery. Russ Miller, Gary Matviak, Dr. Kathie Fallon-Kline and Dr. James Kline served as pall bearers. The Rupell Funeral Home, LLC, of Phillipsburg handled the arrangements. Betty Jane Hagerty Csordas Willis
Betty Jane Hagerty Csordas Willis, 80, of Rome, Ga, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at her home. Born: On April 3, 1928 in Easton, Pa, Betty was a daughter of the late Ernest and Beatrice Stone Hagerty. Personal: Betty's first husband of 31 years, Albert Csordas, passed away in 1975 and her second husband of 24 years, Roy Willis, passed away in 2001. She had lived in Rome for the last two years and prior to that, lived in Walnutport, Pa and the Stewartsville, NJ area. She worked in War Production Industries during World War II and Vietnam, in the hospitality industry, and most recently, at Mary Ann's Donuts at the Allentown, Pa Farmer's Market, The Allentown Fair, and Sweet Sensations Bakery in Rome. Memberships: While living in the Phillipsburg area, Betty attended the Stewartsville Presbyterian Church. She also attended the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rome. Survivors: Betty is survived by a son, Andrew E. Csordas and his wife, Laurina of Rome; daughters, Barbara Strobl and her husband, Herb of Allentown, Laura Csordas Opdyke and her husband, Ed of Oxford, NJ; a step-daughter, Carol Firth of Whitehall, Pa; a brother, Jack Hagerty of Stewartsville; sisters, Barbara Allen of Upper Black Eddy, Pa, and June Gallo of Phillipsburg; eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Services: Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Carleton "Carl" Fauerbach
Carleton "Carl" Fauerbach, 55, of Wilson Borough, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008 at his home. Born: He was born June 11, 1953 in Easton, a son of Margaret Hatch Fauerbach of Nazareth and the late Henry Fauerbach. Personal: Carl and his wife, the former Cathy A. Conine celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on September 8, 2007. He lived in Wilson Borough for the past 28 years, having previously lived in Phillipsburg. Carl was a supervisor for the Corrugated Paper Group in Milford, NJ, for 25 years. He last worked in 2003. He coached Little League baseball in Wilson Borough. He also coached basketball and soccer in the Community League in Wilson. One of his greatest pleasures was to be with children. He graduated from Phillipsburg Catholic High School in 1971. Memberships: He was a member of St. Jane Frances De Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer Township and attended Wesley United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg. Survivors: In addition to his wife and mother; a son, Brian M. Fauerbach at home; two brothers, Henry J. Fauerbach and his wife Nancy of Nazareth, and Ronald C. Fauerbach and his wife Elaine of Phillipsburg; and four nephews. His twin sons, Brad and Jeffrey Fauerbach, passed away in 1987.
