Ellen J. Brown
Ellen J. Brown, 95, formerly of Springtown, NJ, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg. Born: December 15, 1912 in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Sadie Young Snyder. Personal: She was a homemaker who worked with years with her husband, Kenneth, farming in Springtown. She also worked in Grant's 5& 10 Store in Easton. Memberships: She was a member of Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, Stewartsville for 70 years, and a member of the Delaware Chapter 50, Order of the Eastern Star, Phillipsburg. Survivors: A son, Ernest F. Brown and his wife Joyce of Easton; a brother, Frank Snyder, Jr. of Riegelsville, Pa; two sisters, Betty Schnoor of Phillipsburg and Jane Yeager of Smyrna, Georgia; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Kenneth who died in 1999, she was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Merkel in 1997, a brother, Henry Snyder and two sisters, Stella Crandell and Gertrude Cals. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, with a viewing to be held one hour prior to start of the service. Harold J. Leeper Sr.
Harold J. Leeper Sr., 75, of Alpha, NJ, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Care Center of Brakeley, Lopatcong Township, NJ. Born: On June 11, 1932 in Wooster, Ohio, he was a son of the late Thomas F. and Alta Blanc Leeper. Personal: He and his wife, the former Margaret Ehasz, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 14, 2007. Harold graduated from Wooster Ohio High School, Class of 1950. At the 55th Class Reunion, he was honored by his class as Classmate of the Year. He had resided in Alpha for 51 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving aboard the LST 1081, the U.S.S. Pima County and was discharged from the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Constitution "Old Ironsides" in Boston Harbor. Harold retired from JEOL USA Inc. as their senior field engineer where he installed and maintained electron microscopes in research facilities nationwide. He was one of seven Americans employed by JEOL USA Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of JEOL Ltd., Japan that incorporated in the United States in 1962. His territory was everything east of the Rocky Mountains. The JEOL USA organization is comprised of 300 employees, 180 of which are field service personnel. At his retirement, his territory had shrunk to Metropolitan New Jersey. Memberships: Harold was a member of Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder. He produced the Greenwich Gospel Time and would record the previous Sunday's service for broadcast on Fox Radio 1470 every Sunday from 8 to 8:30 a.m. He was a boy scouting advocate and was a former scoutmaster of Troop 63 and had also served as Troop Committee chairman. He helped construct the Boy Scout cabin in Carpentersville, NJ and was also assistant scoutmaster of Troop 56 at St. James Lutheran Church. Harold was an active member of the Alpha Volunteer Fire Company as a firefighter, fire police, chaplain, former president, treasurer and trustee. He was named Fireman of the Year in 1994 and was an exempt fireman from that company and a member of the New Jersey Exempt Firemen's Association. Harold was also a member of the Navy Honor Guard at Arlington National cemetery and was a member of the Phillipsburg Lodge #52, F& AM. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by two sons, Thomas S. Leeper and his wife Leona of Chandler, Ariz., and Harold J. Leeper Jr. and his wife Ingrid of Alpha, NJ; two daughters, Beth Badway and her husband Robert of Forks Township, Pa and Marcia K. Silverman and her husband David of Fairfax, Va; a brother, Forrest Leeper of Huntsville, Texas, and nine grandchildren, Amy, Michael, Daniel, David, Tommy, Kenny, Douglas, Jacob and Jesse. A brother, C. Earl Leeper of Wooster, Ohio, passed away in 1996. Services: Funeral services will held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the church, 17 Greenwich Church Road, Stewartsville, Greenwich Township, NJ. Alice B Suydam
Alice B. Suydam, 88, of Oxford, NJ passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Warren Hospital. Born: February 17, 1920 in Annandale, NJ to the late Elijah Teeter and the late Mildred Teeter. Alice has lived in Oxford for the last 30 years. Before that she lived in Milford and Phillipsburg, NJ. Personal: Her first husband, Harry N. Houston passed away in 1964. Her second husband, Richard Suydam, passed away in 2007. At one time she worked at the Paristyle Bag Co. in Phillipsburg. Alice was also a homemaker. She loved to sew and do needlework. She was a talented seamstress. She was a devoted animal lover. Memberships: Alice was of the Methodist Faith and a former member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg. She was a former Sunday school teacher. Survivors: She is survived by a daughter, Nola Jean Silverthorn and her husband, James of Elysburg, Pa; a granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Masteller and her husband, David of Riegelsville, Pa; two great-grandchildren, Keith M. Turdo and Danielle Turdo. A sister, Helen Billow died earlier. Services: Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am at the Rupell Funeral Home LLC., 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Dale E. Gardner
Dale E. Gardner, 74, of Bloomsbury, NJ, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008 at Warren Hospital. Born: On June 16, 1933, in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a son of the late James A. and Dorothy Phillips Gardner. Personal: Dale and his wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Smith, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 16, 2007. A resident of Bloomsbury for all of his life, Dale was a pulp prep supervisor for the Riegel Paper Corp. at the Warren Glen Mill for 32 years, retiring in 1988. In retirement, he was a courier for R& L Data, Bloomsbury, NJ. Dale graduated from Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1951 and was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Memberships: Dale was a member of the Bloomsbury United Methodist Church, where he served as financial secretary for 10 years. He was a member of the Phillipsburg Lodge $52, F& AM, and was a former member of the Masonic Bowling League. Dale was a member of the Bloomsbury Rod and Gun Club where he served as treasurer for 20 years. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Elizabeth "Betty", he is survived by two sons, Tim Lee Gardner and his wife Susan of Bloomsbury, NJ and Dale M. Gardner of Harleysville, Pa; a daughter, Donna L. Vanya and her husband Joseph of Bloomsbury, NJ; a brother, James W. Gardner of Bloomsbury, and five grandchildren, Catherine Gardner, Rebecca Gardner, Timothy Gardner, Nina Gardner and Michael Vanya. Services: A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. There will be no calling hours. Carol Osborne Tigar
Carol Osborne Tigar, 79, of Lopatcong Township, Stewartsville, NJ, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008 at her home. Born: On April 12, 1928 in Akron, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Robert H. and Thelma Robey Osborne. Personal: Her husband of 49 years, Raymond S. Tigar, passed away February 14, 2001. Carol had lived in Lopatcong Township for the last six years, previously residing in Milford, NJ for 60 years. She retired from Crown Vantage Co., formerly Riegel Paper Corp., after 41 years of employment there. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1946. Memberships: Carol was of the Methodist faith. She was a 60 year member of the Delaware Chapter #50, Order of Eastern Star, Phillipsburg, NJ. Survivors: She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Ronald, Jerald and Merle Osborne, all died earlier. Services: Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Helen M. Yost
Helen M. Yost, 87, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away on Friday, February 29, 2008 at her home. Born: December 9, 1920 in Easton. Pa, a daughter of the late Anthony Yost and Marie Gunther Yost. Personal: Helen has lived in the Phillipsburg area most of her life. Helen worked with Dr. C.A. Maxell, an Orthopedic Surgeon from 1962 through 1975 and with Dr. Frank A. Wolf, Jr. also an Orthopedic Surgeon from 1976 until her retirement. She graduated from Easton High School, class of 1938, graduated from the Easton Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1941. She took post graduate courses in Obstetrical Nursing at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, TX in 1943. Over the years, she worked at Easton Hospital, Betts Hospital and Warren Hospital. She was instructor of the First Group of "Teen Aides" now known as Candy Stripers at Warren Hospital. Memberships: Helen was a life member of Easton Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She served as president of the Phillipsburg Business and Professional Women's Club from 1962- 1964. A member of Past President's Club of New Jersey Federation of Business and Professional Women Club Inc. Survivors: a sister, Elizabeth A. Bullock and her husband Robert of Pohatcong Township; a niece Mary Elizabeth Stevenson and her husband, Fred of Hanover, Pa; a nephew, Robert A. Bullock and his wife, Kathleen of Phillipsburg; four great nephews, Daniel, Nathan, Robert J. and Nicholas; two great nieces, Bethany and Kristina. A sister, Katherine C. Laubach, died earlier. Robert Ricker
Robert Ricker, 73, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008 in Warren Hospital. Born: December 21, 1934 in Phillipsburg, NJ. Personal: He and his wife, the former, Nancy M. Ensley, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2007. Robert was a machinist on the drill floor of the Ingersol-Rand Co., Phillipsburg for 35 years, retiring in 1988. In retirement, he was employed at Bonton in the Phillipsburg Mall, was a custodian for the Phillipsburg Board of Education and also a driver for the Association of Retarded Citizens. He attended Phillipsburg High School. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving on the SS Allagash. He played softball with the Ingersol-Rand softball league and the Phillipsburg Softball league. He was a coach for the Steele Hill Boys Club Junior and Senior baseball teams. He enjoyed traveling. Memberships: He attended Grace Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg. He was a life member of the Lincoln Engine Co. #2, Phillipsburg; life member of the Italian American Social Club and the Italian American Pleasure Club, both of Phillipsburg. Life member of the Easton Fleas Club and the Concordia Maennerchor Club of Easton. Robert was a member of several area Quoit leagues, to include the Triple City League, the Industrial League, the Phillipsburg Firemen's League and the Bushkill Valley League. Survivors: three sons, Robert Jr. and his wife, Leeann, Daniel Lee and his wife, Diane and Gary Alan Sr.; two sisters, Ann Heller of Phillipsburg, Patricia Searfoss of Bunceton, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Christopher Bittenmaster, Tracy Marsteller, Brittany Ricker, Gary Ricker, Ashley Ricker, Joshua Ricker, Brianna Ricker, Jeremy Ricker; three great grandchildren, Shawn Marsteller, Aden Bittenmaster and William Bittenmaster. Three brothers, Byington, Harry and Lewis and a sister, Helen Lukens, all died earlier. Services: Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. Grace Beatty Richards
Grace Beatty Richards, 87, of Lopatcong Township., NJ passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Brakeley Park Center in Lopatcong Township. Born: January 21, 1921 in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank Lutz and the late Grace Snovel Lutz. Before living at the Brakeley Park Center, Grace had lived in Stewartsville, Myrtle Beach, SC and Lopatcong Township. Personal: Grace was a social worker at the Warren County Welfare Board in Belvidere for 40 years, retiring in 1989. She was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, class of 1939. She loved to travel, enjoyed reading, camping and cooking. Memberships: Grace was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Phillipsburg where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. Survivors: daughter, Donna B. Kobler, with whom she resided in Stewartsville; two grandchildren, Bret G. Kobler, Stewartsville and Becky Brooking and her husband, Edward, Oswego, NY; great-grandson, Spencer. Her first husband, Charles R. Beatty passed away in 1987. Her second husband, Horace Richards passed away in 1999. Five brothers, Arthur, Frank Jr., Ralph, James and John Lutz and a sister, Alberta Mills died earlier. Della Rogora Young, 91, of Delaware Park, Lopatcong Township, NJ, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Warren Hospital. Born: On July 31, 1916, in Clifton, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Josephine Zocchi Rogora. Personal: Her husband of 54 years, Fred Young, passed away in 1993. Della had lived in Lopatcong Township, NJ for 25 years having previously resided in Phillipsburg. She retired from Bernstein Brothers Co., Phillipsburg, NJ. Della was an avid bingo player. She had been a participant in the Phillipsburg Nutrition Center for the last 25 years. She was of the Catholic faith. Survivors: She is survived by a daughter, Irene Anthony and her husband Larry of Delaware Park, Lopatcong Township; a brother, Oreste Rogora of Phillipsburg, NJ; two grandchildren, Michael Anthony and his wife Lisa of Landrum, SC and Darran Anthony and his wife Jennifer of Leesburg, Va, and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Brenda and Della Joy Anthony. Marie C. Volkert
Marie C. Volkert, 97, formerly of Palmer Township, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 in Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth, Pa. Born: In Easton on January 2, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Frank L. and Mae Rodenbaugh Volkert. Personal: She had lived in Easton and Palmer Township nearly all her life. She worked as a binder at Mack Printing Co., Wilson Borough for many years. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Easton. Memberships: She was a member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Palmer Township, where she was a volunteer on the mailing committee. Survivors: Two nieces, Joan F. Bellini of Forks Township and Peggy Hoffman of Bangor; and a nephew, Richard Volkert of Easton. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank T. and Stanley Volkert and a sister, Elizabeth L. Sampson. Services: Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, with a calling hour to be held one hour prior to start of the services in the funeral home. Benny R. Antonacci
Benny R. Antonacci, 79, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at his home. Born: On April 23, 1928, in Easton, Pa, he was a son of the late Diego and Melina Cologgi Antonacci. Personal: His wife of 53 years, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Fretz, passed away May 16, 2005. A resident of the Easton/Phillipsburg area for nearly all of his life, Benny was employed in the shipping department of the Turbo Division of the Ingersol Rand Co., Phillipsburg, for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He attended Easton High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with Battery D, 213AAA Gun Battalion. He was of the Lutheran faith. Benny was an avid fisherman and hunter. A NASCAR racing enthusiast, his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. Memberships: Benny was a member of the Easton Fleas Club. He was a life member of the Safety First Fire Co., the Liberty Hose Co., and was a member of the Citizen's Hose Co. He was an exempt member of the Reliance Hose Co., Phillipsburg, and was a member of the Phillipsburg Exempt Firemen's Association. He was also a member of the Phillipsburg Firemen's Quoit League. Survivors: Benny is survived by two sons, Robert J. Antonacci and his wife Karen of Saylorsburg, Pa, and Richard M. Antonacci and his wife Cheryl of Phillipsburg, NJ; a brother, John Antonacci of Easton, Pa; a sister, Mary Attinello and her husband Carmen of Phillipsburg; nieces and nephews; three grandchildren, Jolleen Borger of Saylorsburg, Robert J. Antonacci II of Nazareth, Pa, and Jarred Antonacci of Philadelphia, and a great-granddaughter, Andrea Jordon Borger. A brother, Angelo Antonacci, and a sister, Nancy Vajda, both died earlier.
