PARK, Joan Maureen (nee Millar)
On September 7, 2008. Joan was born March 13, 1936, educated in Camden schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1954. She met her husband Alan at State Street Methodist Church, where they were married
in 1956. Two children blessed the couple, Brian D. and Karen J. Park. The family later worshiped at Asbury Methodist Church in East Camden, where they lived until moving to Pennsauken in 1980. Joan worked at Presbyterian Minister's Fund and Smith, Kline and French in Phila. before a former teacher, Rocco Leo asked Joan to be an instructional aide for just 9 months. Nine months turned into 25 years in the Camden School System, beginning in 1971. Joan was an instructional aide for Marie Leonetti at Dudley School for 8 years, and this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Joan made many sacrifices and Marie encouraged her as Joan worked every day, went to school each night and was mother and father to their children during Alan's illness. Joan graduated from Camden County College, then Glassboro State in 1981. She was hired as a teacher at Lanning Square School in November 1981. She found her years in education rewarding, wonderful and enjoyable. Health problems forced Joan to retire in 1996 and in spite of hopes for a healthy retirement, her medical problems increased. Several trips to hospitals and rehabs allowed Joan to meet her family away from family-especially at Virtua Hospital Marlton's 3 North Unit and Genesis Rehab. The staff loved and cared for her like she was their own, and Joan's family will be forever thankful to them. Joan is survived by her children Brian and Karen and her cousin Loraine Neitzel-who is the sister she never had.
