Mercurio, Joseph

JOSEPH MERCURIO, 69, of WEST LONG BRANCH, died Monday, June 16, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was a member of Teamster Local 560, retiring in 1979. He was a thoroughbred horse trainer for many years and a member of the Horseman's Benevolent Association. He was a parishioner of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Matthew Church, Edison. He served his country honorably during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Born in Newark, he lived in Piscataway before moving to West Long Branch seven years ago.

He was predeceased by his wife, Arline Westerfield Mercurio, in 1997; and a daughter, Mary Mercurio, in 1989. Surviving are two sons, Joseph M. of Freehold, and Paul of Piscataway; three daughters, Deborah of Los Lunas, N.M., JoAnne of West Long Branch, and Diane of Metuchen; three brothers, Michael of Hillside, Salvatore of Poconos, Pa., and Sam of Tuckerton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Damiano Funeral Home, Third and Franklin avenues, Long Branch. The funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Michael's Church, Long Branch. Interment will be in Woodbine cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to United Mitochondrial Disease, Box 1151, Monroeville, PA 15146.

Mercuro, Robert A.

Robert A. Mercuro, age 72 of Brick died Thursday, February 6 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

Bron in Newark, he lived in Monmouth Beach for 24 years before moving to Brick.

He was a salesman for 20 years at King Ladder Co., Hackensack, before retiring 15 years ago.

He was a parishioner of The Roman Catholic Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Tanelli Mercuro ; two brother and sisters in law, Peter and Pat Mercuro of Fl and Richard and Sheila Mercuro of Florham Park; one sister and brother in law, Carol and Ben Commins also of Florham Park and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Damiano Funeral Home, Third and Franklin Aves, Long Branch on Monday February 10, 2-4, 7-9 pm. Merefield, Leon A.

LEON A. MEREFIELD "Jim" of Medford, NJ, passed away on Monday, December 3rd, 2007 in the Medford Care Center. He was 82 yrs. of age. Born in Medford, NJ, he has resided here his whole life and was the son of the late Leon & Edith Merefield. A retired Plumber at Fort Dix Army Base, he retired in 1980 after 33 yrs. He is a Life time member of the Medford VFW Post 7677, a member of the Union Fire Co. of Medford, the Fireman's Relief Assoc. and was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy. He enjoyed bowling and bingo. Leon is the Beloved husband of Margaret E. (Nee McDowell) Merefield of Medford, NJ and the Loving Father of James R. Merefield and his wife Deborah of MN, Marilyn Paul and her husband James of Medford, NJ, and Ronald Merefield and his wife Donna of Medford, NJ. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robert & Jane Merefield of Mt. Laurel, NJ, 9 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Agnes G. Merimonde (nee Chuplis) of Marlton died August 13, 2002 at home. She was 87. She is the beloved wife of the late Joseph Merimonde. Jean M. Gallo Merullo age 84 of West Long Branch died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was a parishioner of St Jerome Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. Born in Watertown, Mass, she had lived in West Long Branch since 1957.

Cynthia Vi (Cossaboon) Messick, 39, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Born in Bethesda, MD, she was a longtime resident of Cape May Court House. She formerly worked at Westside Market in West Cape May. She enjoyed bingo, motorcycles, horses, penguins, and her music. She loved being a mom to her children.

Cindi is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Dutz A. Bonus, Sandra M. Bonus, Zachary J. Williams, and Amanda M. Messick; her mother, Florence Cossaboon; her brother, C. Wayne Cossaboon, Jr.; her sister, Susan E. Bland and her husband, Eric; her grandmother, Mary Cossaboon; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin W. Cossaboon, Sr.; and her grandparents, Albert and Viola Hand, William Cossaboon, and Mary Dougherty.

ALFRED METTA SR., 83, of LONG BRANCH, died yesterday at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. He was proprietor of the M and M Sunoco Station, Paterson, for 30 years before retiring 22 years ago. He was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, West End, Long Branch; the Long Branch Ice, Boat and Yacht Club; and Car Toppers in Monmouth Beach. Born in Newark, he lived in Clifton before moving to Long Branch 22 years ago.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marie A. Metta, in 1995. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred and Elizabeth Metta of Brick, and Michael and Kirsten Metta of Wayne; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Mark Caputo of Long Branch; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Metzger, Mary Ann

MARY ANN METZGER (nee Kraft) went home to be with her Lord and Savior and beloved family on Saturday, February 13, 2010. She was born on March 9, 1932 in Chicago, IL, and married Henry Metzger in Chicago on February 19, 1955. Mary Ann and Henry moved to NJ from Chicago in 1960, living in Willingboro, NJ for many years. She was a devoted and faithful wife to her good husband, Henry and behind the scenes supported him in his many duties which served their local community and other organizations that benefited the entire state of New Jersey. She contributed to making a truly good man become a great public servant. While her husband was active in many political efforts and important civic affairs, her personal passion was working for The Associated Services for the Blind in Philadelphia as a braille transcriber. She served them and their clients over 31 years helping many expand their horizons. Mary Ann's good life was evidenced by how she gave herself to many people as a true friend. She was blessed to be a part of a caring group of people who loved and supported each other in many ways. Her active faith was demonstrated by her active membership and involvement in St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Willingboro for over 40 years. Her strong confidence and faith in Jesus Christ was especially apparent, not only during the last days of her life, but in how she lived a life of service and concern for others. Mary Ann lived a life of dignity, honesty, with a strong sense of seeking good for others. She is survived by sisters Lillian Barnett (Bud), Bloomington, IL; Betty Whowell, Rolling Meadows, IL; brother, Richard Kraft (Susie), Moline, IL; brother-in-laws Gerdheinz Metzger (Helmar) Germany; Richard (Chicago); and Jerry (Rosemary), Aurora, IL; nephews and nieces (and their spouses) Lothar Metzger, Beate Metzger, Robbie Metzger, Michael Metzger, Matthew Metzger, Timothy Metzger, Scott Metzger, Stephen Metzger, Laura Barnett Kessler, Andrew Whowell, Jonathan Whowell, Joseph Whowell, Meghan Kraft and Michael Kraft; and many, many special friends. Metzger, Henry W.

HENRY W. METZGER of Lumberton, NJ, passed away into God's loving and eternal care on Thursday, May 31st, 2007 at Medford Leas. He was 76. Born in Chicago, IL, he moved to Willingboro Twp. in 1961. Henry is a former V.P. for Church Brick Co. in Bordentown and spent most of his adult life in public service in S.J. An elected Councilman in Willingboro in 1968, he was mayor in 1971 and elected to the B.C. Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1972, where he served for 14 yrs. As a freeholder he was director of Bldgs. & Grounds, liaison to the Cultural & Heritage Comm. and was commissioner & treasurer of the B.C. Mosquito Comm. He was a past Pres. of the NJ Assoc. of Counties and Pres. of the S.J. Freeholder Assoc. and was a Shade Tree Commissioner. As a Freeholder, he was instrumental in leading the Co. to obtain the Smithville Mansion and grounds. Later he founded and was Pres. of the Friends of the Mansion, established the Farmland Preservation Program and saw the creation of the B.C. Special Services School Dist. He has served for 12 yrs. as a Comm. of the B.C. Soil Conservation Dist. and held various offices including Pres. from 2003 - 2005 in the NJ Assoc. of Conservation Dist. From 2004 - 2007 he has been a member of the NJ State Soil Conservation Committee of the NJ Dept. of Agriculture. In 1989 he was elected B.C. Sheriff. He is a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, the VFW Post 4914 of Willingboro, the Willingboro Jaycees, the executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America, the Medford Lakes C.C. and a board member of the YMCA. Henry was also a Veteran of the Marine Corp serving in the Korean War and a member of the Marine Corp League. He is the Beloved husband of 52 yrs. of Mary Ann (Nee Kraft) Metzger and loving brother of Gerdheinz and his wife Helma of Germany, Richard and his wife Joanne of Chicago and Jerry and his companion Rosemary of Aurora, IL. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Lillian Barnett and her husband Bud of Bloomington, IL and Betty Whowell of Rolling Meadows, IL and brother-in-law Richard Kraft and his wife Susan of Moline, IL and many nieces and nephews and their families. Meyer, Elizabeth "Elsie"

Elizabeth "Elsie" Meyer, 84, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Oceana Nursing Home. She was born in Philadelphia and moved here 30 years ago after living in Philadelphia and Connecticut.

Mrs. Meyer is survived by her sons, Randall Meyer and Eric Meyer (Betty) of Cape May Court House; her sisters, Veronica Moore of Palmyra, and Dolores Borshell (William) of Philadelphia; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be private. Meyer, Marie Cecelia

Marie Cecelia Meyer, age 89 years of Cape May Court House, NJ died on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Cape Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House, NJ. Born in Philadelphia she has lived at Loyalton of Cape May for the last two years coming from Garden Lake and Somers Point. She was a Bookkeeper for her husband with William G. Meyer Plumbing & Heating Company in North Wildwood, NJ. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and St. Ann's Church, was business office manager at Wildwood Catholic High School and Past President of PTA at St. Ann's, worked for Rauhauser's Candy in Ocean City and was a Class of 1936 graduate of Hallahan Catholic Girls High School and Hallahan Alumni.

She was preceded in death by her husband William G. Meyer, Jr. and daughter Marie LeCompte. She is survived by her children; Irene A. and husband Theodore Fitzick of Somers Point, NJ, Donna and her husband Alfred Grieshaber of Dover DE, William, III and his wife Marguerite Meyer of North Wildwood, NJ and Rosemarie Lancour of Superior, WI, her son-in-law Malcomb LeCompte of Camden, NC, one brother Donald and his wife Donna Berk of Pennsauken, NJ, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Meyer, Christopher Evan

Christopher Evan Meyer, 17, died on Thursday, November 4, 2004. He was born in Cape May Court House, NJ. He was a lifetime resident here. Christopher was a former student at St. Ann's Regional School in Wildwood. He was a commercial clammer; he enjoyed fishing and being outdoors and loved to listen to music.

Christopher is survived by his loving parents, Erik Van and Betty Jean (Lashley) Meyer; his brothers, Erik Van Meyer and Nicholas Noah Meyer; his maternal grandmother, Emma Lashley; his paternal grandmother, Elsie Meyer; and his paternal great grandmother, Helen Seagel.

Christopher loved his younger brother, Nicholas, as he was always wanted to give to him and make him happy. He had so many plans for his future. Christopher is loved and will be missed so very much by all of us, his family.

Meyers, Charles J.

Charles J. Meyers, age 81 of Monmouth Beach died Thursday, September 9, 2004 at St. Barnabas Hospice Center, Long Branch. He was a shop foreman for H. Cross, Weehawken, retiring 20 years ago. He served his country honorable in the US Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church of Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bayonne; the Sandpiper Seniors, Monmouth Beach; and Andres Seniors at St Andrews Church, Bayonne. Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Monmouth Beach for 20 years.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Marion Browne Meyers; 4 sons, Charles J. Meyers, California, John P. Meyers, Edison; Richard P. Meyers, Edison; James P. ELIZABETH H. MYERS, of HAZLET, died Friday at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Red Bank. She was a registered nurse at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, for nine years before retiring in May 2001. She also worked for Bayada Nursing. Born in Neptune, she lived in Florida for 12 years before moving to Hazlet six years ago.

Michael, Walter F.

Walter F. Michael, 72, of Woodbine, died on Sunday, March 3, 2002 at his home. He was born in Millville and lived in Woodbine all his life. He was a member of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church and served as an usher for 52 years. He was retired from the Acme Markets after 42 years of service as produce manager. He had served on the Woodbine Zoning Board; was a member of the American Legion and the Young Men's Catholic Club. He was a graduate of Millville High School and served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Michael is survived by his wife, Jean J. (nee Fitzick) Michael, his wife of 47 years, celebrating their anniversary on January 22; three daughters, Debra A. of Milmay; Linda A. of Cape May Court House; and Karen A. Raffaele and her husband, Gary of Woodbine; and his "special loves" grandchildren, Nicole, Samantha, Zachary, Victoria, and Olivia.

Funeral Liturgy will be said on Thursday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's R.C. Church, Clay Street, Woodbine. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ.
