Hoffman, Lyman Ackerman
Lyman Ackerman Hoffman, age 80, of Green Creek, NJ, died on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Cape Regional Medical Center. He was born and raised in Wildwood and lived in Green Creek for fifty five years He attended the Wildwood schools and was a graduate of the Wildwood High School.
He served in the Rainbow Division of the US Army. In 1953, he married
the former Bernice Norbury who preceded him in death April 10, 2007.
Lyman worked as a Senior Vice President of Marine National Bank of Wildwood retiring in 1983. He was an active member of the Green Creek Community Church singing in the choir; serving on various committees and president of the Church Board.
One of his proudest accomplishments was the recent compiling and self publishing several books on the big trees of Cape May, Cumberland and Salem Counties.
He is survived by his son, Jay R. of Manhattan, NY; and his daughter, Shirley Reeves and her husband, Jerry of West Cape May, NJ; his grandsons: Alex and David Hoffman of New York; Tom and Dan Reeves and granddaughters: Sarah, Anna, Rachel and Mary Reeves all of West Cape May; many nieces and nephews of the Kelly and Saul families; close in-laws and nieces and nephews of the Norbury family.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11 am at the Green Creek Community Church, Route 47, where friends may call at 10 am. Interment will be in the Methodist cemetery, Green Creek. Memorials in his name may be made to Green Creek Community Church, PO Box 245, Green Creek, NJ 08219.
Hoffman, Bernice M.
Bernice M. Hoffman, 76, a lifetime resident of Green Creek, NJ, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Shirley Reeves, in West Cape May, NJ. She was born in Green Creek, NJ, the daughter of the late Heath and Edna S. Hollingsead Norbury. Mrs. Hoffman was a charter and active member of The Green Creek Community Church. She attended the Green Creek Elementary School, and was a graduate of Middle Township High School.
Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her husband of fifty three years, Lyman A.; a son, Jay R. of Manhattan, NY; a daughter, Shirley Reeves and son-in-law, Jerry, of West Cape May, NJ; eight grandchildren: Alex and David of New York City, NY; Tom, Dan, Sarah, Anna, Rachel and Mary Reeves of West Cape May, NJ; sisters and brother in law: Janet and Albert Weeks of Green Creek, NJ, and Vivian Hickman of Woodstown, NJ; two brothers: Ross and Rodney Norbury of Green Creek, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at 1:00 PM at the Green Creek Community Church, Rt. 47, Green Creek, NJ, where friends may visit 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Green Creek Methodist cemetery. Hoffman, L. Viola
L. Viola Hoffman, 94, of Rio Grande, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. She was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a lifetime resident of Wildwood Crest and Rio Grande. She was a member of Rio Grande Bible Church and the Ladies Aide at the church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rio Grande Fire Company, the Mother Singers, the Order of the Eastern Star, and a Cub Scout Leader. She was an avid square dancer and taught many people how to square dance. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and donated many hats, blankets, and sweaters to area civic groups.
Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her daughter, Nancy Simpkins of Cape May Court House; her son, Richard Edward Hoffman of Palm Springs, FL; her brother, Melvin Campbell; her sisters, Dorothy Bransfield, Thelma Franco, and Marion Church; her three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Hoffman on June 15, 1977.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Rio Grande cemetery. Hoke, Jean Louise Hoke
Jean Louise Thomas Hoke, age 76, a former resident of Cape May Court House and Stone Harbor died on January 27, 2004 in Moorestown, NJ.
Jean was born on Easter Sunday April 17, 1927 in Philadelphia to Constance Verweyde Thomas and Quentin Thomas. She graduated from Frankford High School in 1945 and Penn State University in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Jean is survived by two children and their spouses, David N. and Judie Hoke of Seaville, NJ and Toni and Tom Guckert of Texas; A sister Constance Sands of Fort Meyers Florida; 5 grandchildren: David Hoke, Matthew Hoke, Carolyn Hoke, Nicole Guckert and Lauren Guckert ;and 7 nephews Jeff Sands, Stephen Sands, Carl Gunther, John Gunther, Robert Gunther, David Gunther and Kahlil Gunther. She is predeceased by her former husband David M. Hoke and her sister ShirleyAnne Gunther.
Jean loved children and teaching. She taught at Idledale Colorado, Elementary school, Rancocas Friends Nursery School and Westampton Elementary School. Her times with her children and school children were her happiest.
She will be remembered by her family, friends and students as one who loved literature, art and music and loved sharing it with them. She was a complex and loving person who will be greatly missed by those she left behind.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm Friday, January 30, at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Cape May Court House. Interment will follow at the Union cemetery, South Dennis.

Holden, Cynthia M.
CYNTHIA M. HOLDEN (Nee Fleck), of Medford, NJ, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 47 years old. She was born and raised in Sharon Hill, PA and then Marlton Lakes, NJ. Known as Sinde, she lived her last 21 years in Medford. Sinde valued education, which she passed on to her children. She carried a bachelor's degree from Rowan University and a master's degree from Mary Grove College; she was a dedicated special education teacher for Willingboro BOE for 15 years. Sinde lived by the phrase "take baby steps", enjoyed painting, a fondness of motorcycle riding as a passenger, loved to visit the Jersey shore, traveled through the US and Bermudas, and aspired to travel much more in the future. She was the beloved mother of Dey-Lynn Holden and her fiancée Jon Reuther, Jamie Holden and her fiancée Matthew Bricker, and Scott Holden. Sinde was also survived by her parents Joseph and Mildred Fleck, her brother Joseph Fleck and wife Nancy, sister Millie Noll and husband Stan, and brother Jim Fleck. Sinde was the proud godmother to Tyler Fleck and aunt to Amy Fleck and Joshua and Cody Noll. Holland, Cora "Cody"
Cora "Cody" Holland, age 85 years of Seaville, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Cape Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House. She was born in Calhoun County, MI.
Cody, with husband John and son Nick relocated to Cape May County from Saginaw, Michigan in 1954. Over the years she practiced as a dental hygienist in Wildwood and Bridgeton. Her love and knowledge of antique furniture led her to establish Shore Holly Farm Antiques in Ocean View, which she operated for many years. Cody was an enthusiastic volunteer with the Burdette Tomlin Hospital Auxiliary and the Cape May County Historical Society. She served as the Director of the Cape May County Division of the American Red Cross from 1961 to 1963.
Cody's unconditional love and abiding concern for her family, friends and those in need enabled her to touch so many people over her lifetime in a way few people can. She was tolerant, kind, gentle and forgiving, and all of us who were fortunate enough to know her loved her for all that she was. She will be so sadly missed but will live on forever in that special part of each of us that she has become.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John J. and her son, Nick A. Holland of Seaville, her four grandchildren; David, Alisa, Cody & Taylor and two great grandchildren; Savannah & Jasmine.

Holley, Margaret Carol
Margaret Carol Holley, 62, of Richburg, SC, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009. Born in Gloucester Heights, NJ to the late Edward A. and Ethel (Fithian) Williams, Sr., she moved to South Carolina 20 years ago from Camden County. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Chester, SC. She enjoyed camping, riding her motorcycle, and caring for stray animals especially cats. She was a plasma and bone marrow donor.
Mrs. Holley is survived by her husband, James; her children, Wendy Adams (David), Wayne A. Lennox, Jr. (Mariana), Rhonda Bridges (Johnny), Nicole Ferrell (Eric Jones); her step children, Naschelle McBeth (Sean) and Derrick Carabine; her brother, Edward "Buddy" A. Williams, Jr.; and her fifteen grandchildren.

George Holly, 87, of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA, and lived here since 1952 moving from Ocean View, NJ. He was retired from the Cape May County Highway Department.
He is survived by three children: George, Jr., of Trenton, NJ; William C., Sr., of Villas, NJ; and Bettyann Stec, of Upper Township, NJ; and four grandchildren: Barbara, Jennie and William Holly, and William Stec.

Holmes, William S.
William S. Holmes, 71, of Woodbine, died on Friday, December 21, 2001, at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point. He was born in Steelmantown and lived in the area all his life. He had served as Chief of the Woodbine Police Department; had been employed as Undersheriff for Cape May County and worked as a summer police officer for the City of Wildwood. He was a member of St. Casimir's Church, the Belleplain V.F.W. and the Woodbine American Legion and was an avid dart shooter.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Joan (Schalek); his daughter, Joann Polhamus; his sons, William Holmes and Stanley Holmes; his two brothers, Truman Holmes, Jr. and Stanley Holmes; his sister, Jackie McKnew; two stepbrothers, Harry Brown and Loren Keating; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer Holmes and Anna Jane Brown; his daughter, Sandra Holmes Parker; and his son, James Steven Holmes.

Holmes, Rosalie Hatcher
HOLMES, ROSALIE HATCHER HALL, 88, of Galloway Township, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at Alterra Wynwood of Galloway. She was born in Newark and had lived in Galloway Township for many years. Rosalie attended Egg Harbor City Elementary and High Schools. She graduated from New Jersey Normal School at Newark and the University of Pennsylvania School of Education with a Bachelors Degree and received her Masters Degree at Penn State University. She taught school in Egg Harbor City and Philadelphia, retiring from Kensington High School as a high school counselor. Rosalie played the organ for Macedonia Baptist Church from the age of 12 to high school graduation. She served on the Board of Assistance and the Planning Board of Galloway Township, Secretary of the Egg Harbor Teachers Association, President of the Block Club of Philadelphia, Secretary of the Community Club of Yeadon, PA, President of the Flower Club of Mount Sinai Church of Yeadon, PA, member of Business and Professional Women's Club of Philadelphia and Phi Delta Kappa Sorority. Upon retiring, Rosalie became an Alumni Secondary School Network of the University of Pennsylvania Counselor to recruit students in the Atlantic County community. She and her late husband, George, reactivated the South Egg Harbor Civic Club in 1971. She served as President until 1981. Rosalie served for many years on the Atlantic County Board of Elections of the Historical Society of Galloway and Secretary of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County, U.S. Department of Agriculture. She was a member of the South Egg Harbor Community of Friends, the Atlantic City Branch of the Association of College Women and a life member of Betty Bacharach Rehabilitation Hospital and the South Egg Harbor Civic Club. Rosalie was also a member of the Tinsel Club Craft Group, a Sunday School teacher and Financial Secretary of Macedonia Baptist Church. Rosalie played the organ at the opening of Convention Hall in Atlantic City for the 1000-voice choir of the Halleluia Chorus of Atlantic County. Rosalie is survived by her sister-in-law, Constance Hatcher and a host of nieces, nephews and her many dear friends. Holmes, Jr., Truman P.
Truman P. Holmes, Jr., "Junior", 71, of Woodbine, died on Friday, April 26, 2002 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House. Born in North Wildwood, he has been a lifetime Cape May County resident. He retired in 1977 as a Maitre d' at the Lobster House in Cape May after 20 years of service. He also worked for Rendezvous, Shoppe Paper, Pirates Den, and Harbor Furniture. He was an avid bingo player, known for his sharp wit and his kind, caring and loving spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean (Betty); his three sons, John and Sherri of North Cape May, Richard and Donna of Erma, and Michael and Colleen of New York; his three daughters, Beth and Gary Thoman, Danna and Carlos, all of Cape May, and April and Bob Lassor of Cape May Court House; his brother, Stanley; and sister, Jacqueline McKnew both of Cape May; 20 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Truman P. Holmes, III.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. at Church of the Nazarene, 446 Seashore Road, Erma, NJ 08204, where relatives and friends may call after 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Matt's Stocking, c/o the church. Interment is private.
